Lost Temple

Lost Temple

Worry2 (that would be me) - Protoss at 9

Ghost~Lizard - Terran at 3

Ownage - Observer Terran hiding somewhere

The Beginning

I put my probes to mine minerals and start building more probes. Game was quite laggy and we discussed whether Ownage should stay in or leave, but we decide to let him watch. Anyway, I build my first pylon right before eigtht probe pops out and send it to do some serious probing.

That nameless scout then wonders to 12.00 start position and meets scv that has clearly been sent for similar mission, since there is no buildings anywhere to be seen. I think. There must be smoke coming from my brains, through the ears. I think that Ghost must have sent his scouting peon about the same time as I sent mine, because it really would be of no use to send it earlier. Also, people tend to search for starting locations in some kind of order. Usually they go clockwise or anti-clockwise. So, I think that Ghost must be at 3.00 spot and send my probe there. Actually I didn앖 need to order probe to go there since it allready was going there. I had waypointed it trough all starting locations, going clockwise. Like I said, people tend to do things in order.

After burning my brains off wondering where Ghost might be, my probe finally arrives to 3 o앆lock position and surprise! For once I had quessed right. I feel like I were one not-to-be-named-here-top-player. I knew this would happen someday. I just can앖 always be on the losing side when there is 50%/50% chances to quess something. But wait. I think again. What did I get for quessing right? I curse.

So, my probe found his base and there was Supply depot, Barracks and Refinery with probably two scv압 mining it. At this time, I have Pylon, Gateway and another Gateway coming soon. Ghost has early gas, so he is going to tech and only one barracks probably means that he will put up a factory soon. I decide to get gas and some tech too, so i put up Pylon, Assimilator and Cybernetics core. Then i get two zealots and place them at the top of my ramp to block, and if possible, to kill any tresspasser. One scv finds his way there soonafter, but is unable to get through.

Time for Battle

I train my first dragoons as soon as core finishes and begin upgrading their range, hoping to outrange Ghost압 marines. When i have four dragoons and two zealots, I decide to test my worthy opponents defence. Now, I know that Ghost started at least one factory, since my brave scouting probe decided to go and scout Ghost압 base again. I am a bit worried that I might encounter tanks soon. But there is one thing; I think that Ghost didn앖 get to see my base with his scv, so he doesn앖 necessarely know of my teching to dragoons.

I arrive to his base and climb up the ramp. And what do I see? There are some vultures. So, no tanks yet but mines instead. Ghost does some harassing against my two zealots and I decide to do what I can with those zealots. I take another and run him trough the mine field towards two mining vultures. Couple of mines pop up and start following him. Right when this brave zealot reaches those two vultures, the mines catch up with him and explode. Boom! Two vultures less. Then I send another zealot, but the remaining two vultures are separated and I only get two or three mines and one vulture, Not so cost effective. It was probably out of mines anyway. And now that I think of it, the first one wasn앖 so great either. Maybe it was only good for stealing some time from him, if he decides to lay more mines there.

Meanwhile I have produced more dragoons and I kept sending them up his ramp where others where waiting. I make an expansion at 6 o앆lock start position and reinforce it only with couple of cannons and gateway. I also start getting the tech needed for observers and templars.

I have about eight dragoons at the top of his ramp and couple of more climbing in when I hear: Boom! Dragoons start running to all directions and I try to order them to go down that ramp. But alas, they are just too big to go through it fast enough and I lose two or three of them to siege fire. I park leftover dragoons outside Ghost압 natural because I must have him contained. If he gets his push going freely near my base, I will be toast. I still need some time to get both templars. I also order stargate to get corsairs and disruption web.

I am not sure if I were lucky or not, but ghost decides to mine the way to his natural and secure it with tanks. He also gets command center on his natural. He isn앖 coming so fast as I was afraid of. Two dark templars join my armies outside his natural and observer goes above his minefield. Then comes some harassing from both sides as I start blowing up some mines with dragoons and Ghost tries to move his tanks a bit closer. About this time I begin to produce mainly zealots from my gates. And occasionally some high templars. I also make one shuttle for possible island capturing.

End game

I shuttle one templar above his natural and storm some workers. There wasn앖 so many of them though. I think there was about 7-8 scv압. Ghost probably didn앖 Maynard, or if he did, he hasn앖 produced more of them (I mean scv압, not Maynards). Or maybe there just hasn앖 been time for that. Anyway, I storm about five scv압 with two storms and leave that high templar there in case that Ghost won앖 come check that place. Hey, stop laughing at me! that can happen. My Templar at the cliff has about 30 mana left so he won앖 be doing much for some time.

Meanwhile, in front of Ghost압 choke, I manage to get rid of most of the mines with help of storm and I send my dark templars (there is still only two of them) to do some havoc. They manage to destroy couple of tanks before wandering too close to a turret and getting killed.

Now it압 time for me to curse again. I see marines and medics landing near my templar that was cleverly standing atop Ghost압 natural압 cliff. My templar has about 60 mana so I say fairwell to him. But wait, those marines just stand there doing nothing. Maybe they haven앖 seen my templar or something like that. When my templar gets his energy to 70 I get to know the terrible truth. Ghost압 marines decided to torture my templar by letting him have hope of survival. Then they just come, get some drugs and end that poor fellows miserable life. I am shocked. How can anyone be so cruel?

I decide to revenge the death of martyr templar and send all my troops, about 10 dragoons, 15 zealots and couple of high templars against Ghost압 defences. With the fury of revenge my troops whack their way trough lines of tanks and destroy his expansion. Then they storm (literally) their way through ramp defences and start pounding Ghost압 main.

Ghost surrenderes with: "gg" and: "this build
order sucked".

Side notes

Ghost was trying some new build order and therefor asked me to play as protoss. His build order was something like depot, barracks, 3*factory and more supply depots when needed. It might have worked if he had gotten earlier tanks, vultures aren앖 so good against dragoons, especially when you are contained and can앖 lay mines at enemy choke and around the map. You can keep dragoons at bay with mines though. Maybe two factories still is better with that kind of build order.

I didn앖 make any notes during the game and didn앖 get any shots either. Ownage also didn앖 get any shots no matter how much I hoped him to get some. Because I had nothing to remind me of game except my bad memory, there are certainly some mistakes on what happened and when. I also don앖 remember how much Ghost압 or my troops were upgraded. Ghost and Ownage could tell a bit more probably, if anyone is interested (and if they remember).

This report was maybe a bit too long, especially because there was no pictures. Hopefully someone has time to read it trough. And hopefully doesn앖 die to boredom.

There might be some grammar or spelling errors due to fact that English ain앖 my native language and I only have studied it for 10 years. Oh well, I haven앖 studied it for 5 years. Maybe another 10 years more and I can actually speak english.

Lessons learned:

  • If I want to, I can make a battlereport. How good, thats a different thing, raters will tell. Probably -1 for protoss beating terran.

  • Contaiment is strong. Had I kept my troops at home, Ghost would have been able to mine whole map. There are dangers in it though. I once lost a ladder against zerg because I had about 5 zealots guarding his exit when he came with lots of speed upgraded lings. My zealots were outnumbered badly and couldn앖 run away. Not good.

  • People do check their cliffs after attack from there, sigh.

  • Finnish humor is strange. Or at least mine is. I didn앖 learn that during this battle though. I think that it was Amedda (that son of a b***h, I앏l rush his a** off same day. He is always rushing ;) who told me this sometime.
