This was pretty fun writing, although it took a really long time to come with ideas and stuff. I don't know if you'll enjoy it, but I know I did, so you probably will too. It's basically a Starcraft fanfiction. If you have no idea what is going on in the story, I'll explain at the end. It's not that hard to follow, and I tried to make it sound understandable.

Jim Raynor's Memory

Part One

Five Wraiths broke the silence of space, which wouldn't be too hard to break considering they also broke the sound barrier, travelling toward a barren winter planet. The silence returned as their jet engines died away. But thereafter, a lumbering Battlecruiser followed, travelling toward the same winter planet. This was all that was left of DuGalle's heroic fleet: a couple of marines, five Wraiths and a Battlecruiser. The remaining squad was being chased across space by a band of Mutalisks, ordered by Kerrigan to finish off the remainder of the United Earth Directorate.

"Wraiths report back to flagship," the elected captain yelled over the intercom, "I repeat! Wraiths, return to the flagship, they are here!"

The Wraiths made a sharp turn around and began heading back towards the flagship Battlecruiser. "All wraiths cloak up," the squad leader said over the radio. The Mutalisks flew in at an angle and began targeting the Battlecruiser. It seemed as if the Mutalisks were being left unopposed, when suddenly, a mass barrage of missiles came out of nowhere, killing a few of the Zerg attack force.

"God damn it!" one of the Mutalisks yelled. "Who's stupid idea was it to send us out here with out cloak detection?" The Mutalisk added, before being obliterated.

The Wraiths had an easy battle. When it was over, the Battlecruiser was still intact, and the Zerg were destroyed; only the fragments of bone, skin, muscle, organs and blood hovered around in the zero gravity of space.

The elected captain was satisfied.

"And to think they were intelligent creatures!" one of the wraiths laughed after the battle.

"They were intelligent enough to take over this sector," the squad leader said.

They landed on the winter planet hours later. The Battlecruiser landed and the doors were opened. The elected captain ordered the marines out to inspect them. The marines got into rows, and the elected captain ordered random marines to lead squads. They were only about fifty marines strong.

"We discovered the remains of an old Terran base in these parts," the elected captain said. "Each squad will go different ways to find this old Terran base. Whichever squad finds it gets an extra chicken leg at dinner. Now go!"

Marine squad number three headed north, through the barren fields. They had walked for a couple of hours, when at length, the squad leader stopped the group. He motioned them to be quiet as he pointed out a figure on the horizon. It had the shape of a human, but the squad leader wasn?t so sure.

"You there!" He pointed out a marine close to him. "Bobby!" He said, reading his nameplate. "Can you make out who or what that is?"

"It's definitely human sir!" the marine named Bobby yelled, shielding his eyes from the sun. "But wait! It seems to be running with a herd of... scantids?"

The squad leader looked at Bobby in disbelief. "What! Scantids? Are you a fool? Scantids are native to desert terrain!"

"Oh yah?" the pushy marine said back to his squad leader. "Prove it!"

"I checked it up on the Starcraft Campaign Editor!" The squad leader said back.

"You're both wrong!" another marine spoke up. "It's a pack of bengalasses!"

"You liar!" another marine said. "Bengalasses live in the jungles! It's a pack of rhynadons!"

Soon all the marines were quarrelling amongst each other, some saying it was a pack of rhynadons, others scantids, and other foolish ones believed it was a pack of wild dogs. Suddenly, a different voice joined there's:

"You're all wrong! It's a herd of ursadons! Stupid bastards!"

They all turned to see who it was. It was the man who had been running through the fields with the herd earlier.

The squad leader spoke up. "Who the hell are you?"

"Captain! We have found a most valuable resource! It was running around in the fields with a pack of ursadons." The marine squad three was back at the landing site, at attention in front of the elected captain.

"Really?" the elected captain asked, expecting something good, like little kids do on Christmas mornings... "Is it the old Terran base?"

"Well..." the squad leader answered. "...No. How could an old Terran base run around a field with a pack of ursadons?"

"Get to the point!" The elected captain bellowed.

"We've found the ex-Dominion-commander Jim Raynor!" The squad leader said in triumphant glee.

"Really? Bring him forward." Jim Raynor was brought forward to be presented to the captain. "What were you doing out in the middle of a field with a herd of ursadons?"

"That's not important captain," Jim Raynor replied. "What's important is that I'm on a mission to kill Kerrigan. I vowed to."

"Maybe we should help him, sir," the squad leader suggested.

"Fuck him!" The elected captain yelled, jumping up.

"..." The squad leader stood there in silence. "...Do we have time?"

Everyone froze in shocking silence.

"I'll just ignore that homosexual comment sergeant..." the elected captain said quietly. "Just... WE NEED THAT BASE! God damn it soldier, I can't do everything on my own; I'm the only elected official!"

Jim Raynor finally spoke up. "Oh yah, about that base. It's too late to get a hold of it now."

"Why's that?" the elected captain asked, looking up at Jim.

"The remaining forces of the Dominion found it. It's now their base of operations."

The marines groaned. The elected captain said, "You should be groaning all right, now we're as good as dead."

"It's not that..." Bobby said. "You said whoever finds the old Terran base gets an extra chicken leg at dinner. Guess that means you are going to give the Dominion each an extra chicken leg."

The elected captain was furious. "Wraiths!" He yelled into the intercom. "I want you to search the perimeter east, the old Terran base is that way and so is the Dominion, so watch out!"

"Roger!" the lead wraith said.

"Jim!" the elected captain said. "Come with me! You're second in command."

The elected captain began returning back to the Battlecruiser so Jim decided to follow him. "What's your name?" Jim asked him.

"It's Hunt," he said. "Mike Hunt."

There was a moment of silence. "My cunt?"

"No! Mike. Hunt. Mike Hunt!"

"Oh, okay..." Jim said, trying to hide his laughter.

Mike and Jim entered the control room of the Battlecruiser. They put the Wraiths on screen. They were headed east. Suddenly, a barrage of sniper bullets came out of nowhere, hitting the Wraiths' armor. The Wraiths pranced around in the sky, looking around for the attackers. There was nothing. The lead wraith decided to consult the captain.

"Okay. It must be ghosts." Mike said.

"I say you guys cloak up," Jim suggested.

"Why the hell would they want to do that?" Mike yelled furiously, while the Wraiths continued to endure sniper shots. "They still wouldn't be able to see the damn things!"

Jim yelled back: "Yah, but then they wouldn't be able to get shot at either."

"It's no good cloaking if you can't attack!"

"But they won't be attacked either!"

"They're running out of energy anyway."

"Look, if they cloaked for a few seconds, they could at least fly away and stop getting shot at."

Suddenly Mike yelled, pointing on screen. "There're those bastards! Shoot 'em I say!"But it was too late; a final shot from one of the ghosts downed the final Wraith.

"You stupid bastard!" Mike Hunt yelled at Jim Raynor. "You should have told them to cloak!"

Jim contained his anger. "You're the one with the higher ranking!"

"That's it! It's time for an all out assault!" Mike yelled.

The five marine squads of ten marines each stood at attention before their elected captain. It was time for the attack upon the Dominion base. Fifty marines were a strong number, and they could do substantial damage. Mike knew this. Even if they did have ghosts, it would take a long time to get rid of fifty marines.

"They have siege tanks. About four of them on the cliffs over the base." Jim had said. "It ain't a wise move attacking head on."

"About four of them?" the captain asked, raising his eyebrows. "Look Jim, it's either exactly four or it's nothing. You can't have 'about' four."

"Then it's exactly four." Jim replied.

Captain Mike Hunt sighed, putting his hand over his face trying to think. "It doesn't matter," he finally said. "The odds are against the anyway. We have fifty marines against four tanks. We'll surely win."

"Look captain," Jim Raynor said. "I don't know who made you in charge, but four tanks atop a cliff can destroy at least three quarters of our force if they're used properly. And they probably have backup too. I don't think it's a fight we can win."

"Used properly?" the captain asked, as if confused. "Jim, when a tank is in siege mode, it can do nothing more but sit there and shoot, I don't know how they plan to use them 'properly'. Look that doesn't matter! I'm in charge you low-ranking inferior and I say we attack!"

"What the hell?" Jim Raynor said back angrily. "I'm second in ranking to you. And you're only a captain! Besides you suck as a captain anyways!"

Captain Mike Hunt ignored Jim Raynor and ordered the attack. The five marine squads of ten marines each moved out of the landing site, captain Mike Hunt leading the army. Jim Raynor stood and watched as the squads moved out over the hills and out of site. He looked around the landing site. Suddenly his eyes fell on the flagship Battlecruiser. He smiled evilly.

Captain Mike Hunt stopped the army just outside the Dominion base perimeter. "Okay men. This is it. Today we show the Dominion that the remaining forces of the UED are more than a match! Bobby! I want you to go up to that cliff and scout around. See how many soldiers they have!"

"Yes sir!" Bobby saluted as he ran out of line and up the cliff. He got on his stomach and began crawling up the snow. "Well sir," he said into his radio. "I see... oh my God... I see at least two hundred marines and four siege-" Suddenly, a terrifying blast was heard. It was so loud over the radio that Captain Mike's eardrum nearly exploded.

"Look you stupid bastard!" the Captain yelled. "You didn't have to send me THAT over the radio! I could very well hear it with out it!" There was only silence. "Hello? Bobby! Do you read me? Are you still there?" The captain looked up in time to see a bloody arm fall over the cliff and onto the ground at his feet.

"It seems a siege tank hit him sir," another marine named Cain said.

"I can see that," the captain said quietly. "All right! Let?s commence the attack!"

"But sir!" Cain called out. "Didn't you hear what Bobby said? Two hundred marines and four siege tanks stationed on defense!"

"He was probably lying," the captain said, stubbornly. "Besides, Bobby is sort of blind. If he had had better sight, he wouldn't have been killed by that siege tank."

"What the hell?" Cain said in shock. "It's pretty hard to dodge a siege tank shell sir!"

"That doesn't matter! I say attack, and we're going to attack? so ATTACK!"

The marines charged with out hesitation. Six marines immediately fell to siege tank fire, and two more fell to some Dominion marine firepower. All was not lost, however. The siege tanks' damage was affecting their own marines as well. It basically meant that Dominion marines were also falling as fast as the UED marines. The odds were still against the UED marines, however.

"Yeehaw!" One of the Dominion siege tank operators yelled, in glee. "This is way too easy!"

Suddenly, the sound of booming jet engines were heard and every marine and siege tank stopped to see what the noise was. The humming sound was coming closer and closer. Out of nowhere burst a laser shot, hitting and vaporizing a Dominion marine. There, coming over the cliffs was the United Earth Directorate's flagship Battlecruiser. And just as fast as the fighting had stopped, it started all over again.

"So do we aim at that big flying piece of shit?" one of the siege tank operators asked.

"I guess," one of the others replied. Soon, each of the four siege tanks had their cannons pointed straight up at a ninety-degree angle. "Fire!" Four shells shot up at exactly the same time, and came down... right on top of the same siege tanks that had fired them. "Oh shit..." one of the siege tanks murmured in disbelief, before blowing up into tiny little bits by their own shells.

The Battlecruiser happily began shooting at unsuspecting Dominion marines. Before long, the UED forces came out on top, with only ten marines remaining. The four siege tanks had died foolishly to their own firepower and most of the marines had died to Battlecruiser lasers.

The Battlecruiser landed on top of the many marine corpses. The doors opened and out stepped one marine. It was Jim Raynor.

"Jim you son of a bitch!" Mike Hunt yelled in glee. "You saved our asses!"

"I didn't do it for you, captain," Jim Raynor said.

"Don't call me captain," Mike said, "I retired from that position. Just now."

"That's good for you," Jim said, pushing past the captain and heading towards the old Command Center. "Time to meet Arcturus Mengsk."

He began walking towards the Command Center. He had merely gone a few steps when a figure stepped out of the old buildling, inspecting the scene before him. It was Mengsk. "Jim!" he exclaimed. "Was this your trickery?"

"No Arcturus," Jim said, patting Mengsk on the back. "It was all the fault of the United Earth Directorate. That's what's left of their great armies." He pointed at ten marines and a Battlecruiser milled out in the snow. "All I want is help..."

"Really?" Arcturus asked, a bit of curiousity in his voice. "And what help would you want?"

"I'm on an impossible mission," Jim began, "to destroy Kerrigan. But I vowed to do it. Even with out an army behind me."

Arcturus laughed. "And you want me to help you? Do you think I'm stupid Jim? Kerrigan is invincible and we can't do much more but sit here and watch here become immortal."

"All I want is an aircraft out of here. A Wraith at best."

Arcturus was silent. "No," he finally said. "I can't spare any men. My sensors have indicated other sources of life on this planet."

"Jesus," Jim cursed. "They're probably ursadons, or scantids or something. I just want one lousy Wraith. That's all I ask for."

"No Jim. It's not worth it. You'll most likely end up dying, what's the point of handing a Wraith to you. You might as well give up."

"Look, God gave me this mission himself. He's going to strike me down with lightning if I don't do this!"

"Well why can't God just strike Kerrigan down with lightning then?" Arcturus said furiously.

"I don't know! You ask him yourself! Now please, I need an aircraft out of here, God demands I do this. Are you going to obey God?"

Arcturus sighed. "I'll give you aircraft Jim. Come with me."

"Science vessels?" Jim asked in shock when they got to the hangars. "This is what you're giving me? A few science vessels?"

"Hold on Jim," Mike Hunt said, pulling him aside. His voice dropped to a whisper. "Arcturus is foolish. The best thing to use against Zerg are Science Vessels. Coupled with our flagship Battlecruiser... we're unstoppable!"

Jim nodded, trusting Mike's advice. "Okay Arcturus. We'll take these Science Vessels. How many are you giving us?"

"Two." Arcturus said.

Jim didn't say anything. "All right, thanks, we can take it from here."

Arcturus shook Jim's hand for the last time and left the hangar. Jim made sure Arcturus was out of earshot. "Listen up. You three are going to grab some Wraiths. Two of you into one Science Vessel each. The remaining two will board the Battlecruiser with me."

The hangar came to life with the sound of engines. The three Wraiths flew out of the hangar followed by the Science Vessel. They flew closely along with the Battlecruiser.

Arcturus was furious. "I only told them two Science Vessels! Shoot them down! Shoot them all down!" he ordered.

His lieutenant was confused. "You want us to shoot down our own aircraft?"

Arcturus was prancing around with anger.

The small air squad flew quietly through space. Jim knew he needed to find the Protoss to get help in his impossible task of murdering an invincible Zerg Queen. Where he could find them he did not konw. The Protoss had long escaped the presence of the Zerg and sought refuge on secret, faraway planets out in the far reaches of space. But Jim had no time to think about that, as he was suddenly awoken by his fellow commandeers.

"Jim!" one of the drivers said, startling him. "The sensors have just detected a large air force of Zerg approaching our location!"

"How big of a force?" Jim asked, walking to the screens.

"Pretty damn big I'd say. Luckily we haven't spotted any scourge."

Jim quickly sat down in a chair in front of the radio intercoms. "This is the flagship Battlecruiser, do you all read me?" All of his crew responded. "The Zerg are headed this way. They probably picked up our sensors. Now we have two options. We can either run away and let the Dominion deal with the threat, or we can stop and fight."

"What's the chance of our survival?" Mike Hunt, who was piloting a Wraith, said over the radio.

"I'd say zero to one."

"Oh good!" Mike said sarcastically. "Not much incentive for us to fight then."

Another voice suddenly joined theirs: "You guys can argue about when we're going to fight them or not later! They're here!"

"So they are," Mike said. "Science Vessels! Put shields up on all ships!" The shields went up. The first Mutalisk flew in, getting a hit on the first Wraith. It didn't do any damage at all due to the luminating forcefield. The mutalisk soon exploded to a barrage of missiles. The Wraiths surrounded the Battlcruiser. Captain Mike yelled into the radio: "These are outdated Wraith models Jim! No cloaking devices installed yet. We're going to have to make due with out them."

The Science Vessels quickly casted Irradiate on some of the Zerg. The Mutalisks charged in, the leadrunners were immediately maimed horribly by Wraith missiles and Battlecruiser laser. Seconds later, the Mutalisks all exploded into blood and guts. It was the Irradiation. "Sir!" one of the Science Vessels, named Harry, called over the radio. "We have energy for one more Irradiate! Permission to cast it!"

"Do it," Jim said, killing another Mutalisk with a burst laser. Suddenly he saw a large pack of mutalisks heading towards the Battlecruiser. In an instant, an Irradiate was cast upon them. They flew in and each got a hit off, whereafter, they exploded due to Irradiation. Jim looked out and saw the illuminating shields were dying down. But the odds were against the Zerg, they had already lost three-quarters of their force, mainly to Irradiation and mainly because the Terran airships all had shields on them.

"I think we'll last!" Jim said over the radio. "Wraiths fall back behind me! I'll be the target this time!"

"Permission to cast shields sir!" the other science vessel comandeer, Larry, said.

Jim gave the permission and the last of the energy went up around the Battlecruiser as a supportive shield. "Everyone behind me! I'll draw their fire while you score off hits!" The air squad assembled into the proper formation. The last of the Zerg force, in which the Mutalisks were, this time, supported by Devourers. "Target the Devourers first!" Jim ordered. The Devourers attacked. The first two to fly in were immediately destroyed. The Mutalisks flew in and began attacking the Terran air squad. The remaining Devourers attacked, being horribly maimed by Wraith missiles. The Battlecruiser continued to target the Mutalisks.

After the Devourers had been dispatched, the Mutalisks were easy to handle. The Battlecruiser had suffered minimal damage, one of the Wraiths was pretty scrapped, but the other two were okay. The Science Vessels had not even been hit once.

"Sir!" Larry said over the radio. "The sensors on the Science Vessels have just detected something moving towards us! We haven't been able to make out what it is, but I don't think it's friendly!"

---------------------------------------------

The story is basically about Jim Raynor's meeting with the remaining UED forces on a barren winter planet. It's basically Jim's vow to kill Kerrigan (for those who played the missions, you'll know what I'm talking about). I tried to make it funny, it really was inspired by my favorite movie(s): Monty Python. Hope you enjoyed.
