Chapter Three: Counter-attack
After the battlecruiser returned to base, Brian lay down on his cot, about to fall asleep.
He got about 20 minutes of rest. His friends Jeremy and Trevor were now put in a seperate
part of the camp. He only saw them once in a while.
Dinner that night tasted great after a long hard day of fighting. Many marines had
bandages. Brian himself got a large scratch on his arm, but it wasn't serious. Dinner
went by quick. The marines returned to their cots and slept.
The next day, the marines got a whole free day. Brian, Jeremy, and Trevor loitered at the
cafeteria swapping old stories.
On the other side of the camp, commander Crat ordered the comsat commander to do the
daily sweep on the zerg areas. The sweeps revealed abundant mineral fields and vespene geysers. The commander ordered a few expansions to be made. A scan northwards however
revealed a huge number of zergs on the move. The zergs were headed south, right toward
the camp.
The alarm sounded off.
"Alert. Zerg on the move. Get into a bunker and get ready!!" yelled Crat on the speaker.
Brian quickly grabbed a gun. His friends followed him into a bunker outside the camp.
"crap im tired of this" said Jeremy
Behind the bunkers siege tanks sieged and SCVS got ready to repair the bunkers if
neccisary. The large battlecruiser overhead faced north, and unleashed many small a-17
wraith fighters.
On the horizon, hundreds of zerg could be seen. Some bigger than others. A nearby siege
tank blasted a few hydralisk in range. In the sky large crab-like flyers were hovering
next to an overlord. The crabs were "Guardians". One of the most feared zerg. The zerglings
started charging right at the base. The siege tank blasts took out large pockets. The marines in the bunker had the rest. Dropships suddenly came and unleashed new infantry.
Firebats. Firebats were similar to marines but instead of a gauss rifle they had a large
flamethrower attached to their arm. Marines had to be careful not to shoot the
firebats because their packs on their backs were flammable.
The hydralisk then came with ultralisk. Ultralisk were huge elephant-like bug creatures
with foot-thick carapace armor. Even the mighty siege tanks had a problem killing the
ultralisks. Waves and waves of zergs flung themselves at the defending humans. Every
twenty minutes, the zerg would regroup and attack again. The corpses of the hydralisk covered nearly a whole mile. Dropships continually brought stimpacks and ammunition to
the marines.
Another hour of fighting and still the zerg did not cease. A new zerg was approaching.
Infested terrans used to be humans, but their carcass was infested with zerg. The
Infested ones were full of explosive acid. They jumped on top of a few bunkers and
blew them up into smitherines. The people inside the bunker were melted by the acid.
The zerg were starting to get to them. Even worse news, the fearsome guardians appeared to be moving closer. The battlecruiser commander ordered an attack on the airborne zerg units
by the wraiths. The wraiths flew full speed ahead leaving a smoky trail in the sky.
The guardians were dying to wraith missles, but a few scourge (zerg kamikaze air units)
ruined the fleet.
Fighting the zerg was like fighting the sea. The humans being the sand kept being overflowed
with zerg. It was hopeless for the humans. Brian himself had given up hope.
There was a twinkle in the sky. Suddenly, a lone golden ship hovered above the field. The
ship was so majestic and beutiful that some people thought it was an angel from heaven
ready to bring them after dying. It was not so. More and more twinkling lights sparked around the ship and large zepellins appeared. THe zepellins spat out dozens of small moth-like ships which attacked the zerg. A few more twinkles brought shuttles and fighters.
Most of the marines thought it was a miricle. It was. The zerg lines fell dead very quickly.
From the shuttles emerged large mechanical spiders and tall aliens in battle armor. A
large white ball with energy swirling around it appeared too. These
were the protoss. The protoss took out the zerg with no trouble. The moths from the zeppelins did a good job with the guardians. The humans were saved.
The protoss commander that went by the name of "Tassadar" personally went to the general to talk. The protoss have finally arrived. It was almost time to assault the overmind.
Chapter Four:Readying for the war
The protoss left to strike from the other side. The plan was to attack and sandwhich in the
zerg forces. The marines thought of the protoss highly, for their craft was glorious.
The terrans started to repair the damage that was done previously. The SCVS were busy mining
in the new expansions. Crat ordered a few more factories to be made. Another shipment of
marines from camp grace was also coming. It was almost time.
A day later, Crat ordered Dave (from camp grace), Brian, a special marine,
and another marine to meet in his
office.
"Gentlemen, I have a special covert-ops mission for you. It is a major factor in our
attack on the overmind. Listen up. I want you, Brian Correo, Dave Meseta, and Tom
Fidelli to accompany this ghost on a nuclear strike. It is a giant mission. It will take
about a month to do this. "
Indeed this was a huge mission. It surprised Brian that only them 4 would be out there in
the ash world alone with zerg in every direction.
"You will have stealth training. You won't be seen easily by the ill-minded zerg. Their
sense of smell will be blocked by a special deodorent. Yes this mission may seem
impossible but I assure you, it is important. " said Crat. The idea of the mission was
to nuke the overmind to weaken it and the zerg units around it. The nuke is compact so the
strike team would still live. They were to stop at a few outposts to get supplies and current scan sweep information. It was called Operation Cleansweep.
The stike-team reported outside every day for the next month for stealth training. At the
training they practiced sneaking by rocky areas. They were also taught survival skills.
By the end of the month they were quite good.
The SCVs at the expansion had just finished a factory. Siege tanks were being made
within and the siege-cannon was being made in the addon machine shop. In other factories
they were constructing the goliath-walkers. The finished machinery was placed outside with
blankets over them to prevent rust. Marines were continually arriving from different camps
around the Korpulu sector. The new marines got to live in the brand new barracks that were
made. A nearby starport was being constructed, and a science facility. The marines were
trained every day to keep their fighting skills fresh. The battle simulation room was always
busy, and every building producing something.
For weeks the factories were making machinery, the starport was racking up the amount of
Wraith fighters. The vulture scouts were sent out every hour gathering every detail of the
zerg. Missile Turrets were erected throughout the camp. The camp was at full alert and ready.
The attack would begin right when the sun rises in 2 days. The night before the attack,
the blankets were taken off the machine units and they were tested. The marines were
fitted into their battlesuits and sat in dropships for a long time.
It took all night to load up everything and get the supplies. By the morning, all the
problems with the machinery was fixed and they were loaded into the dropships.
The dropships and the great fleet headed toward the zerg. The sun started peeking throught the volcaninc mountains. The army was moving north, to the
zerg. The
great battle had begun.
