Zan vs. _________

Welcome one, welcome all, to an TvP showdown unlike any other! First, lets meet the combatants! One quick warning, first off; if the images do not work, hit back then forward and they'll probably work.
1337 airbrush skill
Zan, a great macro man with the skillz to pay the billz. Recently met him, he's got the gosu 1337 macro skillz to pay the billz. Fits description in the pic.

Ano Nomous, actually a psuedonym (gee, act surprised) for a person who wished not to be named in this battle, and seeing as he threatened my city (Seattle) with nuclear annihilation, I'm not one to argue.

Me, an observer. I had no command center, as this was on LT gamei. :(

Bimmy, about whom I will say nothing but that he is an obs, and his name is annoying to write, as it doesn't stick out (the reason the text is pee-colored is that Ano had to be white in the game)

Act I: Beginnings

NN-tss NN-tss NN-tss This battle, like all others, took place on that enigma wrapped in a mystery wrapped in some fried dough, Lost Temple. Now I will show you a map image to spite you and insult your intelligence. Now that that's out of the way, on to the battle. Ano warped a white nexus in at 6 o'clock, and Zan landed a shiny red CC at the 9 o'clock. The battle was on, the box was locked, it's SC fighting time.
Both players started out fairly normal builds. Ano went for two gates then goons, while Zan made a standard wall-in and teched to tanks. But the first skirmish of the battle happened not between goons and tanks, but a probe and a supply depot. Observe:
got it flaming! Yes, Ano's scouting probe had quickly reached its destination. The small automaton fiercly battled the building, dodging the deadly swinging fan blades like a mosquito on crack. But when the SCV in the pic finished that barracks, the warrior retreated.

More like supply despot! Soon, goons from Ano arrived at the wall to cause pain and general discomfort. The two legged blue goop containers took shiny disrupter shots at the now repaired depot. Zan responded with two SCVs to repair, pulled directly from his mineral line. The drag(oon) queens then fired on the hapless workers, who repaired each other. At this point, a tank rolled out of the factory to quell the tossticles, and Zan sent four more workers to the depot. As the fighting started, a third dragoon joined in. The depot was repaired near-instantly, but the goons soon focused fire on the tank. Two of the SCVs went back to help their friend, Mr. Tanky. Mr. Tanky soon died in a hail of... disruption? A short funeral was held before all six high-tailed it out of there.
All was not lost for Zan , however, as another tank rolled off the assembly line- and he recently had finished siege mode research. As soon as the infamous "TSEEEEEWW.....WAAAAH!" was heard, Ano pulled all of his troops out.
Complete with working pylon! Ano had another trick up his sleeve- a new robotics facility pumping out shuttles. Zan was busy building up tanks and repairing his moderatly damaged economy.

how is that pronounced? powned, pwaned, owned? Ano loaded two shuttles to the brim with dragoons, and soon the cargo had landed. Unfortunately, Zan was ready. Two tanks were ready for them, and one sieged while the other engaged. The goons were on the verge of destroying them when two more tanks emerged from the factories.

Act II: Power Plays

Both players had made their initial moves, and a brief intermission followed. Ano expanded to his natural. Ano also tried to attack Zan with a shuttle of 3 zealots, but it was soon repelled by new missile turrets with no unloading and minimal shuttle damage. super sneaky- but notice turret in construction Zan expanded to his natural, but Ano kept tabs on it with a super-sneaky hidden observer. Zan pushed out with tanks, and expanded once again, now to his mineral only. Ano made goons- many goons.

hey, you try to make a zipper-shaped image with a trial version of paintshop and no skillz

Ano removed what was left of his army and licked his wounds. A new army was in the works from three gateways, but Zan had the distinct advantage with four factories making tanks and vultures. Even so, Ano tried to even the expansion count by starting a nexus at the 3 o'clock main.
True, the vult is dead, but it left explosive poopies! These plans, however, were compromised by the appearance of a vulture at this location, shooting at the still-emerging new photon cannon while laying down spider mines. Ano sent eight goons to quell this threat- and make sure it wouldn't get away. The vulture died, but the spider mines left behind took their toll on the slow-firing gargantuan brethren.

Act III: Incursions

Zan sent another force of six vultures and five tanks. His macro took its toll on micro, as the six speedy carrion birds arrived ages before the tanks and were shredded by two cannons- without probe assistance! Yes, Ano had just remembered to make probes! One vulture escaped, and ushered the tanks in by planting spider mines at the top of the ramp. The tanks parked in and sieged in range of one cannon- which defiantly continued to fire shots until it's blue, explosive demise. Three nearby goons were sent up- two were destroyed by
Ano did try to move the goons next to the tanks (see the corpse?), but when they're moving, they aint firing! mines, the other by tank fire. More goons, along with zealots, had been sent when the vultures had arrived, and the nerve-tendriled beings arrived up the ramp and were fired on. One group of goons was first, and they were removed by heavy tank fire. The zealots and other goons then pushed up the ramp, and destroyed all the tanks. The dust settled, and the expansion was minus one nexus and two cannons, Ano was down several goons and zealots, and Zan had 5 tanks and 6 vultures knocked off.
Both sides had retreated off to rebuild, and so silence settled in once again. Ano started up the 3 o'clock expansion once again, and built a near-full probe force. During the action, Ano expanded to the lower-right island (notice my friendliness to all the compass-challenged).

'Hee hee hee!' Zan had about 12 vultures stationed at his main defenses near his mineral-only. He sent them on a mission of genius. The vultures were sent along to place mines several places on the way to the 3 o'clock. The first few times, only one or two mines were lain. Then, between the cliffs at the 3:00 natural, all 12 laid their mines at once. Zan knew he had it. The vultures then went to the main and harassed the probes diligently mining there. Sure enough, the lure worked, and all of Ano's main forces were sent up to prick the boil. Then they found death, with fast little legs. Most of the zealots and dark templar died, but the rest kept on moving up. Zan laid more mines, and accidentally killed a dark templar. As more forces came in and were destroyed in a hail of grenades and mines, Ano retreated a little ways for a second, then limped out with two goons and two zealots left. The expansion was slowly decimated by the vultures, who had but four losses to their number.

Zan had noticed the lower-right expansion among his constant com-sats, and sent a drop- two dropships with three tanks and two vultures in them. The forces spilled out, and the island was lost. Nearly simultaneously, another drop hit Ano in the ass- a new tank force landed in Ano's main. The force did moderate damage before being killed by some of Ano's main forces-pulled from being stationed near the middle. At this point, Ano had 6 constantly producing gateways, and Zan had 6 factories- but 3000 minerals stockpiled and two of those factories idle. Zan's micro had taken its toll on his macro.

Act IV: Endgame

For years, we have exploited the mines. But what happens... when MINES STRIKE BACK During the dropping by Zan, he had also started an attack on Ano's assembled toss infantry with his tanks and vultures. The vultures laid mines, but these merely exploded in their face and killed more friends than foes. Zealots, dark templar, and goons invaded on Zan's territory, finally being beaten by newly manufactured forces. Neither side had any substancial troops left. Ano started an expansion.

vults own goons- Bob_The_NewtZan had troops already out of factories, and Ano's were caught on the way to rally points when a multitude of Zan's vultures came hunting for blood. Two of Ano's goons fought, and as we all know, goons>vultures. However, when vultures outnumber goons by 5:1 or more, the goons generally fall...though slowly. Tanks rolled out, and the expansion fell with heavy resistance, the nexus exploding just moments after completion. This left our Protoss warrior completely without forces, and nearly mined out expansions. Ano did the only logical thing he could think of.
FM_Moltke has left the game
Lessons learned:
1. For Terran players- learn to love and use spider mines effectively. This game showed two extremes- in one battle, Zan's vultures crippled Ano's army. In the other, Zan got screwed over by this when faced by melee units in close quarters.
2. For Toss players- learn, fear, and despise spider mines. They clearly turned the tide of this battle, as Zan's macro paled somewhat to Ano's regular machine. These mines allowed smaller, weaker forces to dominate and destroy Ano.
3. For zerg players- nothing.
After all this, with his victory in hand, Zan had this to say:
Still wanting to improve... don't you just love this guy? Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed!
