After installing it, I didn't get around to playing it for a week or two when I had time. Last night when I played, I remembered just how much fun it was to play StarCraft. I don't understand why I even bothered to uninstall it. Perhaps I was just tired of playing it or I was into other games at the time like Diablo II and such.
The reason I like starcraft so much now is because it's a game that challenges you and makes you think hard about your next move. You have to have a plan, and you have to out-think your opponent regardless. In some ways I find that StarCraft is like chess. Only it's fast, and you have to think extremely fast when the speed is set to fastest. You have to make quick strategic moves in order to set up a final blow to your opponent.
I'd like to say that I don't remember all the names to the building, but I can remember what the units are called when they do. So please follow me as closely as possible. Next time I'll be sure to have everything cued. Also the spelling and grammar is probably not worthy since I am writting this at school and it's a short period today.
Last night I played two games. One was a 2v2 Lost Temple and another was 1v1 Dire Straits(straights? can never remember). The 2v2 one was a real let down because my partner was a newb, and got killed off really fast into the game. So instead of whining about it, I just tried to take on the other two in a 2v1. Instead I got my ass kicked after diffending massive air attacks with wraths and mutalisks coming from both sides as I keep building turrents and goliefs to diffend my base while trying to get a bit of offense going. The game was really bunk so I won't go into details except that I lost after being rammed by massive Zergling and Hydra push with annoying wrath raid taking out my turrents easily as I try and make battle cruisers with more goliefs and siege tanks.
I prefer writting my report in first person view. I think if it's my battles, I might as well tell it the way I see it. In the future I might do a report on a 1v1 battle with someone else playing, but for now I think I'll keep it simple and see how this report goes with the public.
1v1 Dire Straits
This map is probably my favorite. My opponent was on the same level as me. At the beginning we protoss starting out at 10 oclock while buddy was at 4 oclock as Terran. I didn't really know what I was going to have to do first so I thought what I'd do is mass probes, pylon, gateway, pylon, cybernetix core, pylon, robotics facility, then make two shuttles while I have 2 or 3 dragoons on the way. I sent my shuttle with 2 dragoons over at a residing island around 11 oclock, came back and got my probe and then started a Nexus for an expansion.
I then made a Citidel of Adun and upgraded my zealots leg strengh. With the shuttle being free I went looking around for buddy on the map when I saw him at his 4oclock base. He had one Engineering Facility, and 2 Starports, which scared the hell out of me when I saw shuttled. I didn't think of it much at first because it seems like he didn't have much of anything to offer. I made another shuttle, 3 zealots, built a observatory(thing that allows to make observers), 2 dragoons, and sent my shuttles to get both of them with an observer on the way to buddy's base. I was planning on doing a perfect drop, but like all things... sometimes plans don't work out perfectly.
When I dropped buddy tried attacking my dragoon with a wrath. And since my observer as a little slow, it took a little while to getting there. I moved my men a little to the side in hopes I could avoid being attacked for a while until my observer got there. Then there were two wraths attacking my dragoon. As soon as I moved my observer came and I took out both his wraths and moved into his base more. I came against the conflict of his seige tank, currently in siege mode. Rather then waste all of my units to get at it, I took my 3 zealots into a shuttle and dropped them over his tank. This worked effectively and started moving all my units up to take out his engineering facility.
But then, disaster strikes. His plans for a drop on my base prove to be most effective as he moves into my base with a pack of 12 mariens and 2 seige tanks, currently in seige mode attack my probes as I gather minerals. By the time I notice this, it's already to late to send any of my units out of harms way. I send all the units I pumped out in my base, around 2 dragoons and 5 zealots. I managed to take out 1 seige and 7 mariens, but it was hardly enough to stop him from attacking as he unloaded another pack of mariens. I figured, I got this far, and I knew I was going to lose because he just took out my 3 zealots and dragoons.
The end was here. I said gg and surrendered. It was a good learning experience for me. I suppose next time I'll do better when it comes to handling my units and remind myself to keep pumping out units regardless. It's hard trying to stay active on two fronts when you have to deal with some many things at the same time.
Lessons Learned
1. Always start out fast. The slitest mistake in your building strategy can ruin valuable seconds in your game play. I know this because I stalled when it came to making pylons at the beginning of the game while I was making probes to gather minerals.
2. Cover your back. Regardless how much money it takes, the more you spend on diffence the less money is going to come out of your wallet when people stab you in the back. Think about it. 12*50$ per probe is 600 minerals. That is worth keeping around for the expense of 300 minerals for at least 2 cannons plus a pylon (but of course you need those)
3. Be good to the person your fighting. As long as they don't act like a complete jack ass, be good and kind and never wine about losing. We can all win and lose sometimes, but generally if you keep things in perspective, and realise that it is just a game, you'll have more fun then getting frustrated over something so small.
Thanks for reading my battle report.
