A Protoss Versus Zerg Strategy Report (kinda)

Warning: This report has no pics whatsoever. I would have added some pics, but decided to try it at text-onlys once again. There is limited HTML. I also posted this report late at night, so if there are any spelling/grammar mistaks (yes, I did that on purpose), please forget about them and continue to read the report. Thank you and have a good day.

This is for protoss users playing against zerg users. If you don't play protoss, kindly get lost.

This is sort of a cheese strategy for protoss versus zerg.

Map: Lost Temple
Computer Zerg 12:00
Dawn[W] Protoss 6:00

As I find in most games, Templar/Zealot/Archon and such have been the bomb against zergs. But zergs can easily overpower you, resulting a win for them, as they can procude mass units more quickly.

Then one day Dawn[W] messages me for a game. I agree to a match and he makes the game.

As soon as I join I see the old temple. He begins the countdown and we're both randoming.

I warp a red nexus at the 12:00 position and he spawns a purple hatchery at the 6:00 position.

I opt for an anti-random build, since I have no idea what match-up this is. I send my overlord scouting 3 finding no sign of any enemy. After I build a pylon and a gateway I send my guy out scouting. (first 6:00 then 9:00) I start an assimilator. I start a cyb core very shortly after.

Deon runs into a hatchery morphing at the 6:00 natural. I send him up the ramp and I see a pool morphing.

I pull a probe off minerals and start a stargate. I begin a zealot also.

"Executor!" I hear a sharp voice in my head. "These zerg are being controlled by the overmind. We must eradicate all forces here!" The Judicator. He's a faggot.

I nod and begin a corsair and as soon as the money rolls in, I begin another zealot.

I scout again with my trusty probe, Deon. Sadly, Deon dies to four sunken tentacles. =[ Poor him. With him wasting money on four sunkens, he probably will not have a hydra den yet. At least, I hope.

My corsair finishes and I quickly deploy it to Sector Six - the Zerg location. The corsair arrives and happily tells me there is a hydra den still morphing. Then it proceeds to kill an overlord. I begin another corsair and then a templar archives.

The corsair finishes and I again, deploy it to Sector Six.

Both corsairs are there now and both of them work on another overlord.

I only have one gateway right now. (can you believe it? :() I start another one and bring three zealots down the ramp and to the choke point. I begin a nexus at my natural and a forge in my main.

"Executor!" a voice suddenly comes through, through transmission. "We are under attack! The enemy has got air resistance and our shields are falling. Retreat or die?"

"Retreat," I say. "It wouldn't be cost effective if I lost two corsairs to a bunch of hydras. Head back to base." I end the transmission.

I send a probe down the ramp and tell it to build a few cannons around the choke point. It obeys hastily and soon I have a good solid defence. I maynard some probes over to my natural and start an assimilator there as well.

I begin some DT and another stargate. I have four zealots and a few cannons at my choke.

"Executor!" cries a zealot. "The zerg are coming. I can see the dust kicking up on the horizon."

"Fear not, noble warrior," I reply. "We'll live."

His forces charge my choke and begin firing on my zealots. Hydras. Damn. Luckily, my DT finish and I send them down the ramp.

No overlord, I say to myself. Thank the Khala.

I start two more DT and another gateway in my main. My cannons have all fallen and only 2 DT and 1 badly damaged zealot remain.

"For Adun!" cries the zealot. Those were its last words as the noble zealot burst into a blue flame.

The DT are hard at work, though, slicing hydra after hydra. He retreats.

"Run you monsters!" cries a DT. "Zeratul will remain forever! The protoss will win! The overmind will perish."

I tell zeratul to shut up and begin more DT and some corsair. My only hope is that he won't get any spore colonies or scourge. If he does then my plan simply fails. I have 7 DT and 4 corsair.

"Zeratul!" I order. "Gather you forces at the zerg choke. You corsair will accompany them."

Zeratul takes his squad of six DT and sets out for the zerg choke. The corsairs accompany them on this skirmish.

DTs run into the choke. The corsairs are patrolling the area for any overlords. They have already kill two. The DT begin slicing up drones. He runs his drones away and five overlords come in. My corsairs begin firing there thingys at the overlords. A large group of hydras come down the ramp. The hydras banish the DT back to Shakuras once more.

"Zeratul, retreat, now!"

Zeratual does as I tell him. My corsairs also retreat.

I send Deon's brother, Zeon out scouting for any other possible expansions.

"Sir! The zerg have expanded to the 9:00 main," Zeon says in that funny language all probes speak in.

I nod and bring Zeon back to my base. I send some DT over to nine and see if I can get rid of the expansion there. Zeratul sends another squad of DTs out of the base, with corsair support.

"Executor, we have entered the zerg expansion site and still no resistance!" reports my ever-trusting Zeratul.

"Proceed to kill the hatchery there then."

The DTs swipe away at the helpless hatchery.

One of my probes turns to me and says in the funny language all probes speak in, "Sir, the zerg cerebrate wants to speak with you."

I nod and begin transmission.

"Very good work, Executor. But it will take more than a few funny ghosts and some flying dudes to stop me. I have the OVERMIND on my side."

"Well I got the undermind on my side and my funny ghosts and some of my flying dudes are owning your hatchery right now."

"You realize I have another expansion site?"

"Thanks for telling me that cerebrate." I end the transmission.

I send Zeon out again to the 3:00 spot. Sure enough I discover a hatchery at the 3 spot. Not wanting to lose Deon's ever-faithful brother, Zeon, I send him back to the base.

Now that the DTs at nine destroy the hatchery there, I send a probe over and begin warping a nexus there. I cover the top of the ramp with cannons. I also cover the area around the mineral line with cannons.

"Zeratul."

"Yes, Executer?"

"Send another squad of DT to the 3 main. The confounded zerg have another hatchery there. I want 4 corsair accompanying you."

Zeratul and another band of DT set out to destroy the 3 hatch. Unfortunately, as soon as they get there, there are overlords humming around the air - everywhere. He's set up sunkens and everything. Out of 9 DT, 5 die before I retreat them. I send my corsairs in next. Four corsairs begin kicking the shit out of the many overlords flying about.

"Executor! Scourge!" cries a corsair, before its hulls blow up to those pesky scourge.

Damnit.

All my corsair die, so I send Zeratul and his squad back home. I start two rob facs and another nexus at the 9 natural. Lots of expos mean lots of money. ^^

I begin some shuttles while getting more guys. I also get some high temps and zealots out for base defence and offense. I won't use them a lot of course, but in case I need them in the heat of battle.

When I have six shuttles, I load up four high templar, and 16 dark temps and 4 zealots. I send the six shuttles to below the 9 main, where I can drop the load on the other side, instead of attacking directly. I accompany this force with 8 corsairs. Zeratul unloads with his squad on the behind the zerg mineral line. I storm the drones once, killing a substantial number. I deploy my corsairs and they begin killing random overlords. Then I order Zeratul and his squad into the base. He commands the force and they run in as well.

"Shit," the cerebrate curses.

Unfortunately, he has speedy overlords now, and he has speedy hydras now. I check the upgrades on those hydras and it reads 2-1. I have a 1-2-1 for my guys. The battle actually comes real close in the end. My DT begin swiping hydras's asses off and zealots I definetly do need for this battle. I storm a group of cluster hydras and the fall to the ground in a bloody heap. But the cerebrate's ability to spawn units very fast was too much for me. When a group of hyrdas die, another is ready in seconds. My forces fell, but at good odds. He has lost a whole mining group of drones in his main and a nice large group of hydras. I, of course, retreat my corsairs in the end.

I cover my 9 choke with cannons. I send Zeon and Deon's brother, Neon scouting this time to the 3:00 spot. As soon as Neon enters the 3 choke, sunkens do their jobs, and Neon goes bye-bye. Poor him. But he did give valuable information. The cerebrate has another expansion at the 3 natural.

I start some more gateways at my 9 main and start 4 goons and 2 more shuttle (to make 8 shuttle - big drop indeed :). I research goon range because I haven't done so yet. I load four goons into 2 dropships and send them to the cliff over-looking the 3 natural.

Suddenly, a mass hydra attack is set on my 12 main. Damn. The only defence I have are cannons and DT. But he brings overlords this time.... TA-DAA! Corsair Attack. I send in my corsairs to assault those bigass blimps. His overlord pops into a bloody mess and his hydras are detectionless. He does not bother to retreat his forces and lets his guys die to the ultimate Shadow Hunters.

My goons unload on the cliff overlooking the 3 natural. They get into position and begin attacking some drones. One goon attacks the extractor.

Back at home, I load up 6 shuttles with 8 high templar (energy full) and 16 dark templars. I send those shuttles to the 3 main and unload them. The Shadow Hunters go and kill the drones and then proceed to raze the hatchery and extractor.

He attacks my 12 main again. This time he brings so many of those blimps, they practically cover his hydra force. I deploy 12 corsairs over and target one overlord at a time. I don't forget to micro my sairs as well. Running them away when there are a lot of hydras. I run them away once and send them behind the hydra force. Pop, pop, pop. Overlords go pop everywhere.

A big battle ensues at the 3 main as well. He has two control groups of hydras attacking my forces. His micro is godly at this point of the game, so my guys have a hard time getting hits on the hydras. I get two templars to storm once, so I can kind of surround the hydras in the lightning particles. I do it again and 6 hydras fall. This gets boring after four tries, so I just send my DT in to attack him. Note: I have no corsair support at his 3 main attack.

Suddenly, some fat spiders crawl into the 3 main. Surprise! Lurkers. Now realize that I have no observers out yet, so I am detectionless. I load my DT and high templar back up and send my shuttles back to my 12 main.

The big battle is still going on. My corsairs manage to take out a lot of ovies. Now he has set those ovies next to the hydras and the hydras give them cover. Reinforcements have arrived. My six shuttles unload its cargo, again. I storm the hydras/overlords. Some die, some don't. I storm again. A lot die, some don't. I then send the DT and corsair in. Pop pop pop, go the overlords.

Zeratul leads the force into combat. They begin swiping up the hydras.

"Executor, it looks like they are finished. Look! They are retreating. Thank the Khala!" cries Zeratul.

"Take two squads and follow them. Quickly!" I order.

He rounds up two control groups of DT and one control group of sairs and runs through the jungles of the temple, in hot pursuit of the zerg. Another battle breaks out at the cerebrate's choke.

Just then, he counter-attacks with all his hydras from 3. (about 3 control groups) My troops, weary after the last battle are tired as they go into another. I storm a group of clustered hydras. Some die, some don't. I storm another group, but he dances his hydras out of the way. Godly micro. Better than mine.

At the 6 choke, his overlords are already dead and my DT are slicing through the base. But with the ability for zerg to spawn units faster, he has another group of ovies ready in no time. My corsairs are doing all they can to kill the ovies before resistance arrives.

At home, taking the risk, I load up one shuttle with 3 high temps and ferry them to the 6 choke. I have 3 high temps at my 12 main and they have all stormed their asses off. I can only wait for any further defence. He proceeds to raze my natural - completly.

I also raze his natural completly with my DT. My 3 high temps arrive. I send a shuttle scouting the heart of the 6 main. I see a bunch of sunkens and some ovies. Some hydras are also scattered about. I send all my DT up his ramp, hoping there are no lurkers about.

Speaking of lurkers, I warp an observatory in my 12 main and pump out 2 observers. I research speed for those little babies and send them to the 6 main as well.

As soon as my DT climb the ramp, spines rip through the ground. Lurkers alright. I send the DT back down the ramp again and wait for my obs to appear. I also take out any overlords patrolling the area with my corsair.

His hydras come up my 12 ramp. Fortunately, I have some DT on the ramp on hold-position. That way, no hydra can get up the ramp. (wish I had a pic of it :)

My obs arrive and I spot the lurkers. There are four of them. Nothing I can't handle. I send my DT up the ramp and surprise! He doesn't have ovie support. HAHAHA. I kill the lurkers and soon its a big bloody pool of... blood? I kill all other overlords in that area and his 6 main is torn apart by my DT. Any hydras are stormed and the drones, stormed. :) So basically the 6 main goes bye-bye.

Now for the three o clock spot. I assume he has no more of his tech buildings left, as they need to be rebuilt. I gather my forces at the 3 choke. 15 corsairs, 6 HT, many, many deetee and some zealots.

I scout out with Zeon, and he too sadly dies to sunkens. The Peon family will not continue. I send in my corsairs first. They kill every single overlord in the area. Then my DT go in and swipe up all the sunkens. I storm the drones and they die as well. Yes, it is over now. But the cerebrate isn't willing to give up yet. Actually he does, as his hydras can not even run up my ramp, which is being guarded by DT. (remember??? :()

So he leaves and goes bye-bye.

--------------------

This was kind of stupid, but new styles should always be tried out first and I have a feeling this style sucked bad. Or maybe it's because I haven't br'ed much lately. Next one will probably be a lot better.

PS - those cliff goons. I didn't mention them again, did I? :)
