Going through the replay bin, I found a decent replay between Corbalt and 1st~Tsunami. Since
HurtNTime, The potential subject of my latest battlereport,
and excellent Terran player by the by, has failed to send me his replays, and since I
already started the pics before I met him, well, I thought what The Hell.
Lost Temple: For some reason, it has got to be one of the most popular maps on
BNet. In fact, outside of BGH, this is 90% of the time the only official map I ever see
most days. I think that if there was a replay outside of the lost temple, all the servers at
BR.com would explode in a fiery ball of flame, killing everyone in a 3 mile radius. But
that's just me. Lets bring out the players.
Corbalt finishes warping in his Nexus at the 9, while cloning
his White Probes rather sucessfully. 1st~Tsunami's
Hatchery just came screaming out of the ground like a bat outta hell, surrounded by Four
Yellow Drones. Corbalt's build order was a bit unusual at
first. Corbalt did a pylon-gateway-forge build, without
getting Gas at all. Then, as soon as he got the cash, he warped in several cannons and a
nexus at the 9 Nat, and it hasn't even been 3 minutes. Damn.
Corbalt left his ass wide open for a Zergling Rush. In
fact, that's what Tsunami did. Tsunami commanded his drones for a Hatch-Pool-Hatch build,
setting up his 3rd Hatch in the 3 Main. He scouted with his Overlord, and soon enough
found Corbalt at the 9. Even though the ovie Didn't see the
Expansion, I can safely bet Tsunami knew. Maybe it was
the fact that Corbalt had one zealot, and one gate. Or it was
the fact that Corbalt wasn't teching, and had no gas.
Whatever the reason, Tsunami Took a chance. He
dashed
all of his lings at the time (8) right into the Natural. The only thing there though was a
single Cannon warping in and a zealot. They ignored the zealot and went to the nexus,
but they didn't even get half-way past the shields. The Cannon finished and was taking
potshots at the Ling Bastards, forcing Tsunami to retreat
and rethink his strategy.
At the Zerg side of the map, the hatchery at the 3 Main finished without a problem.
The Cerebrate commanded 8 drones to the site, but only 7 made it. I was a bit confused,
cause I didn't hear an attack. Going back over the base, I saw where the one drone went.
A Huge Saggy Blob was positioned in the 12 Nat, where a new Hatchery was to be in the
near future. Corbalt decides that now would Probably be a
good time to scout his zerg buddy, who I think he found earlier, I'm not sure. But if he
didn't, he never got to see the Zerg Base. 11 lings nicely positioned at the Valley leading
into the base Stopped any scouting efforts by Corbalt. Also,
the 12 Nat finishes, and our friend Tsunami being the
money whoring Bill Gates he is, starts an expansion at the 3 Min. I didn't think he was in
it for the money, but rather as a precaution, because you all know you can't make sunkens
without creep right? And the 3 Mineral is really close to the 12 opening. Or I'm just
wrong, as is 99% of the time.
Corbalt finished 3 Zealots, and for some reason, sends
them over to the Zerg base, even though the guy has 11 ling. Whatever Corbalt was thinking, It Probably was "Suicide Mission."But for
his sake, I'll say the Zealots were looking for where the probe was before it
"Malfunctioned." The Zealots discovered the probe in the middle of the field, with pieces
of its robotic ass through its head. "what could have done something like this?" One
Zealot said a little bit too loud. A Low growl ran through the air, and the zealots looked
up. Looking over them from across the field were 11 of the ugliest Mofo Lings they
ever'd saw. Its safe to say the zealots ran like pansies back to the safety of their base
(Wusses). Corbalt knew it was a time to take action, to get
his ass off his chair, put his pants back on, and turn off his dirty Internet Browser. This
was gonna be war.
Corbalt started teching up like a whore from that part
on. He had maybe gotten an Assimilator earlier, I was too busy trying to figure out how to
make the above paragraph sound decent. He also started a Cybernetics Core for those
Sexy Dragoons. When those finished, a Citadel and Archives came right after the other,
Researching Zealot speed as well. Greedy Tsunami
Meanwhile (Shuns) Feel he has to expand his empire, to buy out the competition so to
speak. To....Ok he started two Extractors at his 12 and 3 Main. Also, The 3 mineral
finishes and as I expected, Two drones instantly morph into Sunken Colonies, as well as
several others at the 3 main. And last, Two new
Evolution Chambers are finished, along with the start of Ling Speed. But this Cease fire
can't last forever..
Corbalt, with all the spare time he had, prepped 7 lots to the
12. He also starts a Nexus/Pylon at the 9 Min. The Zealots run to the 12, being the brave
men they were, then backed down like children at the sight of the 3 Min. Back at the
base, they bullshitted a bit, "Yeah I got 8 Hydras M'self. Had to save 4 comrades too..."
and tried to get out of having to go back there. But they couldn't get outta it. They felt a
little safer though. The Original 7 Zealots were accompanied by two new Zealots, a sexy
Dragoon, a DT and another two Zealots that were on ecstasy for the past two weeks,
AKA a High Templar. I mean come on! Psi Storm and "Hallucinate?" Crack head.
But just as they were out the front door, Those same damn 11 lings from before had come
on by to visit the Base, and take the Private Tour. The Zealots, confident in their number,
ran back and saved the expansion from utter destruction. OK, Maybe not. But
one DT
hadn't heard the call to come back. Instead, he was singing a happy song in his head,
Oblivious to the fact that his fellow troops were back at home. He continued walking,
and walked right to the 3 Main(Making sure to check the Nat mind ya), and found a
bustling Colony of the zerg bastards, WITHOUT ANY DETECTION. A Huge ass grin
crossed his face, and a tear just Swelled in his eye. And his heart grew 3 times that day...
Anyways, he proceeded to draw his sword and hack a sunken colony to Oblivion,
screaming something about Royal Immunity. Whatever. He sics his blade on two
drones and a hydra, before they all burrowed into the ground. The DT just happily
whistles and goes back to work, killing all drones on gas, and another sunken. That's
when all hell breaks loose. The protoss army that had left the DT alone was running
across a field to the 3 Main, but that was BEFORE they stopped at the 3 Mineral to let
everyone know where the hell they were going, and then when they get to the base itself,
they Traverse right over all the hydras into the middle of the base, and then start to burn
things up. AT that point, The Hydras and drones unburrowed, His DT decided just about
then to flank some hydras from behind the gap in the minerals. No body told the "High"
(Wink wink, nudge nudge) Templar though. A Badly placed Psi Storm takes the life of
the DT, along with 2 hydras. WAS ALL HIS LIFE JUST WORTH 2 HYDRAS YOU
UNFEELING TEMPLAR BASTARD?!
With the death of the Bad-ass DT still in their heads, the highly disturbed Protoss army
dwindle down to a lone HT and Dragoon. They plot their escape, and turn for the ramp
when god knows how many hydras charge up the ramp. The Dragoon's Humors spill all
over the creep, making quite a mess, followed by the Popping of a high Templar. Such a
waste really. In the end a few sunkens (One) were taken out, and a shit load of drones (4)
met their end
The Executor was quick to act, and without even TRYING
to build much of an army, he counters the assault on his men in the previous attempt, and
sends 3 lots, 3 goons, a HT, and a DT to the 3 min. to get some vengeance. Too bad the
same exact hydras that stomped his last attempt were leaving the 3 just as he came. Lets
just put it as they put their leg upgrades to damn fine use, and head back to the safety of
Home. With 15 Hydras on your ass, I'd be running too. But that's when Corbalt decides to take advantage of the situation. At his 9 Min.,
he
has about 3 cannons, positioned along 3 gateways, powered by two Pylons. These things
came in overtime in the entire 3 main fiasco. But as the hydras slowly start to lose their
number, they retreat back to the 3 Min. The Toss
army, confident in their win, follow the
Zerg back to the 3, then lures them right back to the cannons. But the hydras dont get
there. In fact, they were picked off by The Goons themselves.
He puts all of his hydras on hold, and waited for the S.O.B. to come back. Come on,
punk. Make my day. He lost two groups of hydras, and he had about 5 hatchs for this
kind of thing.
During all this, Corbalt expands to the 6 Mineral.
Remember this line, you'll be hearing this line alot the next 4 pages of useless text and
pictures. When Corbalt came back from playing
exterminator (He got an Obs and discovered so many burrowed lings) he went to the 3
min. and unfortunately, discovered that his gay tatics were now inferior to the cunning
mind of The Tsunami! So he had to do something else.
Something else...
He didn't have time to think! 4 lings had discovered the Top Secret 6 Mineral
Expansion. Corbalt
responded to such a dire situation, and sends
more than enough units, 3 zealots and a dragoon, to take care of the menace, but what
they don't count on is the 7 or so hydras that are quite pissed to say the least. Without a
single problem, the Expansion fails. Also, Around this time more or less, a lair came into
the world.
6 Sexy Dragoons headed to the 3 Mineral, and try to lure the children into the
gingerbread house... I mean lure Hydras to the stupid cannons aimlessly. Also, as I
earlier stated about the expanding thing, Corbalt tried to
expand to
the exact same place, but had to cancel his buildings to ling, still losing a photon Cannon
and a pylon in the process . At the 3 Mineral, Our good buddy Tsunami's Hydras went to lurkers. Back at the 6 Mineral, Corbalt had used his gosu skills from micromanagement to take 7
Zealots, 3
Dragoons, and an observer to take out 4 hydras. It was insane! He just attack Clicked and
everything! Whoo! He then took them to the 3 Mineral, attacking from the south. But
they are forced to retreat because those Lurkers I talked about earlier hatched, and
burrowed themselves in strategic brilliant Positions in the base, basically the middle
where Corbalt have been attacking all day. And No sooner
then they burrow, the protoss came. Right in the middle. But they were scared off due to
the fact these were 2-0 lurkers. So they do the next best thing, they head to the 3
Main.
Since the 3 Main, the Site's been going through a massive renovation of more
sunkens, and an Overlord. Gee, Tsunami can learn from his
mistakes. Now about Corbalt, he went right up the
ramp and just stood there. Well gee, there was a new Hatchery with Nothing protecting it
overlooking the 3 Min. that would be sweet to knock down, then cast Psi Storm a jillion
times on the drones below. But that doesn't happen. He stands in-between the two
hatcheries and acted like he was thinking. When he finally made his decision though,
Some zerglings and hydras ran from the back of the base and tore the guys apart. I didn't
even see them before. Maybe they were dropped? But regardless, 3 goons survived the
tiny onslaught. and retreated to the center of Lost Temple.
They were joined soon enough by a huge force that could easily have taken out the
Zerg by now if done right. But it didn't happen. Tsunami
got all of his lings that he had on hand, which were quite a few, by the by, and send them
over to the 6 Mineral. The 6 is the only place Corbalt could
expand to, sans the Island expansions, which no one has tried to really claim yet. Corbalt coulda claimed both islands, and have more than enough
to kick ass with. But he didn't.
Corbalt having his expansion fully operational at the
time was probably quite content. He finally got his damn expansion up and running, and
he has a decent economy. He might even try to go deeper into the 6 and take the main
and Nat, since he basically got his foot in the door here. He had mined out his original
base by now, and was moving on. Tsunami meanwhile
wasn't close to finished to mining out any base at all. Why? Because he has his workers
evenly spaced out. OK, in reality he wasn't trying to mine out everything at once. He
might have 9 drones at home, 12 at his first exp., 7 at his mineral, and so on. Although it
doesn't seem worth noticing he is keeping a very stable economy so far. He does have
excessive gas to play around with so any tech is well in his grasp.
The Lings I mentioned earlier spotted the Protoss Platoon in the center of the map, and
before Corbalt could run back to his base, the poor guy was
just SWAMPED with zerg units. Lurkers, Hydras, Lings, everything so far that Tsunami
bothered to pay the cash for ran head first into the guy. Tsunami was taken absolutely No
prisoner, Nor was he really wanting for the game to go on any longer than it already had.
Here's the kicker, the Observer that Corbalt made for the army is on the other side of the
map, and the Lurkers have already started to burrow, so what to do? Fortunately, Corbalt
brought some High Templars that were for the most part Fully charged and where ever a
row of spikes would shoot up, Several Psi Storms dashed over the area where the spines
originated until the ground would bleed, then he'd search for the next set, drawing back
when he needed to, and held off the lings/Hydras from his HT. I should also point out
that a hive was under developement when this entire battle was going on.
Now THIS is how he should play. He rationalized a second, and then did the slightly
Unobvious. And he was retreated, albeit slowly, taking out more than his share of Zerg
ass. But when his main weapon, The High Templar, ran out of mana, he willingly
sacrificed them to warp into archons to delay any protoss slaughter that could have
happened. The rest that lived ran back to the Cannons and waited for Corbalt to make more men. Tsunami, during the "Great Calm" had finally decided that He
had to play offense sooner or later. All this defense is just wasting time, so he throws
down an Ultralisk Cavern, a defiler mound in the main, and a Spire. He also got his hive
to get Overlord Range.
Corbalt's attacks lately just seem like suicide runs. He needs
to think his attacks more. He already lasted this long, right?.......RIGHT?! Corbalt for the fourth time expands to the 6 Mineral after some
stray zergs from the above paragraph razed his expansion. Damn, I forgot to say that
didn't I? Well, Corbalt got his act together and got quite a bit
Dragoons, Zealots, and Archons again. And after taking out a line of Lings heading for
the 6th Mineral, I saw something he do that was exactly what I have been screaming for
him to do the last half hour. He took his attack NOT from the center or south of the 3
Mineral. He hit it from the north! Why is this so important ye ask? Maybe it was because
of the fact he didn't have to deal with lurkers whatsoever. All of the lurkers were placed
earlier on the southern side of the Expansion to prevent any damn Raids on the base. But
Tsunami never considered an attack from the north a
viable option.
This lack of preparation only left Corbalt with 3 sunkens to
deal with, and of course the repositioning lurkers, which just to say, never made it back
into the ground. The guy played like he predicted every movement that Tsunami could make. That is, every movement from units he's
already had to deal with. Lurkers, Lings, Hydras. But he didn't see one thing. 5 Ultralisks
came from the south, after Corbalt had taken all of the
sunkens and Lurkers out. If it weren't for those damn Ultralisks, he coulda done more
damage. His entire force was destroyed in seconds, leaving Corbalt with the nasty aftertaste of Defeat.
The game is almost done people, bear with me. I plan to get a damn 7 on this report! The
End is ultimately upon us, and it better be. It took me about 3 days to get this damn far.
Tsunami runs to the 6 with his ultralisks, the same from the
last attack, and targets each individual building. The only problem was two cannons that
didn't last too long, me thinketh. Corbalt gave up on the base
altogether. It wasn't worth the gas to protect it, let alone the minerals to rebuild it.
![]()
At this same exact time, two fully upgraded overlords (speed, Drop, Range) filled with 12
Zerglings gave birth to the east of the gateways, where they chased down two zealots to
the back of the base, and moved inside out, attacking anything in the way.
AT about this exact time, a perfectly coordinated Ultra/Ling combo hit the east wall of
the 9 Mineral, Targeting all of the probes and cannons instead of the gateways and
Nexus lying right there.
Corbalt managed to pump these out, and with the lack
of decent detection, went freakin mad. He took the lings our and the Ultras with not a
single problem. The only problem was what he'd do with the remains. Eww.
The Calvary came over the hill just then. Dammit, never when you REALLY need
them. Defilers, Cracklings, And overlords. Where the HELL where they two Freaking
Minutes ago?! Only one Ultralisk survived the Dark Templars, but it didn't matter. The
Defilers hung back as well, trying to save mana for Dark Swarm. The Cracklings finished
off whatever DTs were there, and waited, probably making more troops for a drop. Then,
for some Gay ass Reason, A stupid (Yet Oh-so-sexy) Dragoon tried to play hero. That or
Corbalt had some top secret plan/ Kickass MicroMicro
Management. Well, to get to the point of my rambling, he didn't.
This disturbance infuriated the Zerg Cerebrate, and he sent in his Defilers and lings first.
Using some Micro with the Defilers, they managed to avoid Cannon fire and get the
mana for Dark Swarm. An Orange cloud swelled over the battlefield, and that is were the
game promptly ends. Before I can see the pretty explosions, the loser who probably
contributed this replay, left the game.
So Corbalt obviously lost the game.
This is obviously not the greatest game in the world. I know you're all gonna comment
and say "too one-sided, lacked suspense" or "I'll kick your ass you little punk!" From a
probably enraged Corbalt. I have only played for one year,
but never excessively because of the limited hours (Damn Dial Up), so I really play as if I
had it for 6
Months. But I can really see alot of things that Corbalt and
Tsunami (Just so Corbalt doesn't
think I'm
picking on him, Which I am)Should have done differently.
Corbalt: Corbalt did a very big
no-no.
He was too predictable quite a bit of the game. He would attack the same spots, expand
to the same minerals (Which I'll get to in a sec) and all that crap. He controlled his units
as if he had to get rid of supply, suicide missions and such. Micromanagement kicks ass.
If you can do it right, you can easily win, like Dragoon Dancing for example. Over time,
these mistakes really added up, sucking up his minerals. Also, another thing that bugged
me ALOT. Corbalt was constantly expanding, which is a good thing, but to the same
spot. It was always the 6 Mineral. He could have taken an island expansion if he needed
the money bad enough. And it got worse. Throughout the game, his gas was always so
low, because he used so many High Gas Units. He ran off two assimilators the entire
game. After he would make a small garrison of Dragoons and HT and such, he'd have
like 180 Gas, 1837 Minerals. So why couldn't he try for a gas? His game was getting
better near the end of the game when he mixed it up a bit, but it just wasn't enough.
Tsunami: Tsunami was too passive the entire game. I mean, he had to,
because even though Corbalt was on the warpath, to about 3
inches into the 3 Mineral, Tsunami could have had this
game so many times. Maybe he was expecting a huge attack right up his ass if he moved
out, but you'd think he'd scout a bit more. He only saw the main once, then let his ovie
hang around near the Natural. He did though expand like A Whore, and that was great
how he used the 3 Mineral to his expansion, although I've seen it before.
I picked this game to show some newer people what NOT to do and what you should do
in a game. I also did this to try for a second chance with BRs. I just don't want everyone
freakin Whispering me. If you have something to say, save it for the comments section.
Oh, and by the by, I'd like to thank Keanu_Reaver For
helping me by proofreading this. Thanks man!
