These be
Three silent things:
The falling snow… the hour
Before the dawn… the mouth of one
Just dead.

Silent Kills
I have what many would consider an unhealthy obsession: hitmen and their methodology. So I have decided to write this report to try to explore a few tatics hitman use, and which is better in comparison. Academically speaking, I would have to give the advantage to the fibre wire, because of its relative indetectibility (i.e., metal detectors cannot detect it). On an operational level, however, they both- the fiber wire and the knife- provide the operative with the desired silent kill.
THE KNIFE
All things considered, the knife is a relatively simple weapon; that is, the pointy end goes into whatever you're trying to destroy. And any person can stab another, but the professional is concerned with both speed and efficiency. Towards this end they exploit the body's weaknesses- kidney, underside of jaw, throat, top of head, etc- to achieve their goal of completely destroying their targets.
Now if my mind serves me- and it should- 47 sneaks up behind his target and slits their throat. Technically correct, but he lets the body fall to the floor. Which defeats the entire purpose of the "silent kill," as… say, two-hundred pounds of dead weight hitting the floor makes quite a racket. Consider the following example:
KILL #2: Knife Variation "B"- Knife is held in approved combat grip as the assassin readies himself behind target. The assassin's left hand clamps down over the target's mouth and nose, as he jerk the target's head up and back. As target is jerked backward, the blade is plunged to the hilt into the target's kidney. Knife is not withdrawn. Rather, the blade is twisted hard while maintaining a very tight grip on the weapon. Pause a moment. Withdraw weapon while maintaining mouth/nose grip. Completion of this kill is achieved with either of the following methods: a.) Maintaining mouth and nose grip, raise the blade's point to neck, thrust in deeply, and press forward, thus effecting a total severing of the frontal portion of the target's throat and neck. b.) Reach in front of target's head and slash across the front of the neck, cutting through the target's throat.
Remembering to ease the body to floor, depart the scene and you (47) have just completed a textbook silent kill. There are, of course, variations but this is, by far, the easiest; modifications can be made to this method, such as the elimination of the knife-to-kidney step. What cannot change- or what needs to, is the clamping of the hand over the target's nose and mouth; this is prima facie towards achieving the desired silent kill. Otherwise you might as well just shoot the target.
Note. What is worth stabbing once is worth stabbing twice- or three times, and the added system shock can only quicken the target's demise.
THE GARROTE
"Few weapons of assassination bring about such horrific images of death as the garrote," according to Bradley J. Steiner. "It is the sort of weapon that only a true professional will- or can- use." Misconstrued as a choking implement, the garrote can only be used by the truly detached- both emotionally and physically. The operative needs to be properly trained in this implement's usage, and towards this end should know something about the human respiratory system.
When a person breathes, the air passes in through the nostrils, mouth and continues into the back of the throat where it enters the windpipe or trachea; that is the oblong, approximately four inch long tube in the front of the neck that descends into the chest cavity. Once inside the chest, it branches out into each lung forming an inverted "y."
The larynx, or voice box, is centered high in the front of the neck. From the back of the throat, the larynx leads to the trachea and is visible externally as the "Adam's Apple," which is formed by the thick thyroid cartilage and is meant to protect the individual's vocal cords from damage.
Despite this apparent thickness, the larynx and trachea are highly vulnerable to any forceful inward pressure; any form of constant heavy pressure will cut breathing off. Any sudden force (i.e., a knife hand strike) could crush the windpipe and rupture the trachea causing serious trauma and even death.
It would take one to three minutes of constant and heavy pressure to choke someone to death. While, on the other hand, it takes one to three seconds to kill with a forceful blow to this area. This is where the garotte excels as a killing implement.
The brain is supplied with blood via the carotid and vertebral arteries. The internal carotid arteries supply blood to the brain and eyes. In addition, there are two vertebral arteries that run up the back of the neck and supplement the brain's blood supply. Due to this dualistic flow, it is impossible to completely cut off the brain's blood supply, despite ministrations supporting the contrary. However, forceful action can cause such a drastic alteration and decrease in blood flow that the shock can kill.
Remembering to place the garotte across the larynx:
Basic Garrotte Kill #4- The assassin approaches the target from the rear. The garrotte is held with wrists crossed, then snapped quickly over the target's head binding the neck. The left wrist (assuming the operative is right handed) stays close to the neck and the right hand jerks hard backward, effecting a neck-slicing stranglehold.
Coordinated with the above action, as the garrotte is tightened on the target's neck, the killer kicks into the target's knee from behind, thus compromising his ability to resist.
As target falls, killer jerks up on the tightening garrotte and the kill is completed.
By crushing the larynx, and causing such a drastic alteration in the flow of blood to the brain, it has no choice other than to shut the body down. So much trauma has been inflicted that death is nigh instantaneous if not instantaneous. And while the desired results could conceivably be achieved with a cord/rope/chain, they're not nearly as efficacious as your basic neck break. The professional simply does not have the time to choke someone out and so we employ the garotte.
THE ICEPICK
While we're on this subject, allow me to mention my favorite implement: the icepick. It's on the same level as the knife or garotte, but has a few unique advantages: a.) The long, thin pick blade allows it to penetrate between bones unimpeded, and to pierce any muscle/organ it comes into contact with. b.) It's a relatively bloodless weapon- a 'neat' weapon if you will. As a consummate professional I try to be as neat as possible. Couple this with how easy it is to acquire an icepick and one has a lovely killing implement. Consider the following example:
Basic Icepick Kill #1- Assassin is behind target, with icepick held securely in the icepick grip. The thumb covers the tip of the weapon's grip. This is especially important with an icepick, since the grip on an icepick is generally smooth, unlike the ridges on the knife. If your hand slips during execution of the rear kill then your mission may fail. The thumb on the tip of the grip prevents the pick from slipping from your grasp during blade impact with the head. The crossguards on knives prevent this.
Note. The following sequence must be accomplished in one, swift, powerful movement.
Assassin grips the target over the mouth and nose hard, and, while squeezing tightly, jerk his head backward while your weapon-hand rises high. Without any hesitation, plunge the pick down into the center of the target's head right up to the hilt. While maintaining a tight hold on both target and weapon, lower target to the ground. Remove icepick, and depart scene.
Again, another textbook silent kill. Note. The knife and icepick kills are interchangeable.
I hope you enjoyed this report and of course dont put any of these tatics to use. |
