The mountain presented challenges of its own, hard steep hiking through razor sharp mountain edge's and sudden and very deep cliff's presented themselves at every turn.
Most especially, Kelvena had it hard. Having already removed all of her armor to stem the pain, the fire in her left leg was still growing near unbearable and Xaniir now had to support most of her weight.
"Is the hybrid alright?" The dark templar leader said to Xaniir, still maintaining his apathetic exterior.
"She will survive," Xaniir replied, with a tone of hostility.
Kelvena cast a questioning glance towards Xaniir, unable to comprehend what was happening. She know's very well of the hostility the Protoss have towards their exiled brethren but she has always thought of Xaniir to be one to look beyond stereotype's.
Perhaps there's a deeper and darker reason for his hostility, she thought to herself.
Her thought's were soon interupted as the trail took a very unexpected turn narrowing up the side of the mountain. So narrow infact that it only had room for one person. She watched in amazement as the entire group of dark templar fearlessly walked up this path knowing that one false step would mean a five thousand foot drop to their death's.
With only herself and Xaniir left, she felt the cold hands of Xaniir on her shoulder's, urging her forward. She hugged the left side where the side of the mountain is while slowly limping forward, taking one step at a time fearing that her injured leg would fail her. Xaniir remained behind her as close to her as possible, knowing should something happen he would have nearly no time to react to save her from the fatal drop.
The trail continued to narrow, Kelvena was finding it very hard to keep her footing. Pausing periodically to rest her injured leg, she was quickly losing sight of the dark templar in front of her.
"Ahh!" Kelvena screamed out suddenly feeling the ground slip beneath her as the worn down mountain side pass crumbled beneath her feet.
In the shock, she attempted to balance herself on her injured leg but it very quickly gave out and she completly lost the ground beneath her. Reacting on complete instinct she drove her psi blade into the rock face to hold her while Xaniir grabbed a hold of her forearm's.
Dangling thousands of feet above any form of solid ground, Kelvena looked up at the straining Xaniir on his knee's trying desperatly to pull her back to safety.
"Ahh...Xaniir help..." Kelvena said nervously.
"I have you...young one...do not worry..." Xaniir said between breath's, concealing the fact he could feel his hands slipping.
Giving a small look down, Kelvena could feel Xaniir's hands slipping. Her own psi blade had already cut completly through the rock face and no longer played a part in holding her up. She could feel death creeping up on her, not knowing if this would be her final moments alive or not.
All Xaniir could do was hold on tight, every time he attempted to pull her to safety he would slip all the more. The narrow trail wouldnt allow him to get enough leverage, and the gravel on the ground under his feet threatened to make him slip off as well, sending both to their doom. But no matter what he would not let go, he held on tight to Kelvena's arms and strained with all his might to keep her from falling.
With both their stamina nearly spent, a sudden wave of energy over came them. Faces of strain turned into faces of confusion as the two noticed they no longer were able to move. Xaniir's finger's were locked in place, Kelvena wasnt slipping! Just as quickly as their joints stiffened, everything went black.
The two woke up from what seemed like an eternity at rest in what appeared to be a large tent on very hard bed's, definitally not what they were used to in the comforts of the nexus at base. The tent itself was very quiet, Kelvena and Xaniir slowly looked around the room until finally they saw eachother.
"Where are we...?" Kelvena said still observing her surrounding's.
"I know not young one...come," Xaniir said, motioning Kelvena to the exit of the tent.
Kelvena set her cold feet on the floor, noticing the unusual cold climate and her own leg no longer hurt. She quickly made her way over to Xaniir and the two exited the tent.
Outside was much different. Hundred's of dark templar busily scurried about what appeared to be a tent camp, no sign's of a nexus, gateway, or even a probe. The entire place seemed to be an anctient and primitave town.
Xaniir surveyed the surroundings very intently, as if he was looking for something very specific. He fixed his eye's on a tent perched up against the mountains rock face.
Motioning for Kelvena to follow he quickly strode over to the tent, disreguarding the awkward glances neighboring dark templar peasants were giving him.
Slinging the tent's folds open, Xaniir barged in with Kelvena following a few steps behind. Inside Xaniir intently studied the surroundings as the 2 onlooking dark templar inside the tent simply glared at him in confusion.
"C-can i help you?" One of the dark templar spoke up.
"Yes! where is your leader?!" Xaniir said in a low angry boom.
"Y-you must be the high templar...and the h-hybrid...Right this way..." The other dark templar choked out, motioning for them to follow through another pair of tent flap's.
The second part of the tent was very ornately decorated with candles and incense, all circling a very peculiar set of gold imbued door's leading directly into the mountain itself.
"Right in here sir's," The dark templar said motioning to the gold imbued doors.
With nothing else said, Xaniir quickly paced up to the doors and slammed them open, revealing a narrow, dusty and very dimly lit hallway with the dark templar leader sitting down with his back against the wall. The dark templar leader quickly sprung up and gave Kelvena a soul peircing gaze.
"You have much explaining to do!" Xaniir said in a very loud and booming voice.
"I beleive your first question was as to my name, am I correct high templar?" The dark templar leader coldly responded.
Xaniir simply stared at him, saying nothing.
"Well, I have been called many things throughout my existance, but you may refer to me as Zeltior, the leader of this dark templar tribe." The dark templar leader said.
"Zeltior...then perhaps you would enlighten me as to what happened on the trail?" Xaniir said, not quite as angry.
"Yes...those fearing death are unable to cross. Although brave, your hybrid still has a slight fear of death, this will be a bane against her should it stay." Zeltior paused and began speaking directly to Kelvena before continuing, "I kept an observer above your position to see what would happen, when you slipped, I sent out one of our dark archons to rescue you. He casted maelstrom to lock you in place before mind controling both of you so he would be able to manipulate you to your safety. Your leg healed over time, though unconscious for only 3 days your leg mended exceptionally fast."
Kelvena bowed her head slightly taking in what Zeltior had just said before another question soon popped into her mind.
"And what did you want to show me...?" Kelvena asked...beginning to wonder if she wanted to know the answer.
"Yes...it is deep inside this hallway, those doors have not been openned in over five thousand years, come we must make haste." Zeltior said motioning for them to continue onward.
Grabbing a large torch and lighting it, Zeltior took the lead with Xaniir behind him and Kelvena in the back, surveying the very cold and dank hallway. The walls seemed to close in on her as she continued on, now feeling a very icey breaze on her chest.
The hallway was now completly void of light except that coming from Zeltior's single torch. The cool breaze sent chills down Kelvena's spine along with the icey walls and the smoothe ground.
After a while, Kelvena noticed there were very faded marking's on the now smoothe walls. She studied them closely while keeping up with the two templar warrior's. Soon she was able to identify them as the writing's of the blood clan, a clan of Protoss warriors back in the eon of strife.
Are these the descendants of the blood clan..? She thought to herself very perplexed by her discovery.
Still studying the writing's she didnt notice Xaniir had stopped and she bumped into him her stumbling back. Now brought back to reality she got her first glimpse of what seemed to be a dimly lit large circular room with a single coffin in the middle surrounded by very small candles.
"This is the hall of warriors, and in the middle lies leader of the blood clan, a Protoss woman named Reiwen. The woman that single handedly protected thousands of generations of this clan from an unknown evil." Zeltior said proudly, reciting anctient blood clan history while slowly inching forward to Reiwen's tomb.
Kelvena was very quick to notice the breaze in this room was very strong and very cold, she had to cross her arms to keep herself warm.
"This is the first time I've ever set eyes upon her tomb...see those candle's?" Zeltior said pointing out the various candles spread across the room, "Those candle's have been lit for over five thousand years and still have yet to burn out, her soul was put into those candles and as long as they burn, so too shall she protect what remains of this small clan."
"And the breaze?" Kelvena said through her shiver's.
"Even this long after her death she still looks after us, giving us this breaze to keep our small village at a livable temperature." Zeltior said in admiration.
The three crept up next to the tomb and inspected it. After a few minutes of groping around on the surface of the tomb, Kelvena was able to notice very faint and worn away markings up near the top.
Giving the torch to Xaniir, Zeltior quickly brushed away the dust revealing the language of the blood clan. Clearing his throat Zeltior translated and read the markings for all to hear.
Blind to the lies of man made reality
Blind to the slaughter of ones own self
Blind to the trail leading to nowhere
Blind to the existance created in a lab
When one's own existance made futile
When one's own species made to live a lie
When there is no line seperating good from evil
Deep inside the shadow of war
rest's nightmares long since forgotten
Upon finishing the last line, Zeltior's voice cracked and his face turned ghastly pale. A look of terror also crossed the aged feature's of Xaniir's face.
"The...the stories are true..." Zeltior said to himself though heard by all.
"We must pay a visit to your library at once," Xaniir said to Zeltior, trying to steady his voice long enough to finish the sentance.
"Wait...what's going on?!" Kelvena asked in a loud tone.
The two looked at her then themselves. Xaniir took a small step back letting Zeltior speak.
"a few years before Reiwen's death, she was said to have recieved a telepathic message from a close comrade of her's...50 years after his death. The message slowly ate away at her soul, at first she complained of hearing faint voices in the back of her mind but soon, she was transformed into a raving maniac. Spouting off line's of insanity to herself and others...She ended up slaying herself and transfering her psi to these candles, the message she heard was supposedly encrypted on her tomb," Zeltior lowered his head in deep thought before continuing. "This was thought to be folk lore, old wive's tale's...the implications of this could potentially be huge. We must read up on this in my library, I have stored the anctient accounts of the blood clan in there."
Still confused, Kelvena could only hope that the accounts in the library could help her understand so without another word, her Zeltior and Xaniir quickly set off down the cold dark hallway for the library. The three arrived at the entrance to the hall of warriors in a near dash but a nervous dark templar warrior quickly stopped them.
"Sir! Our observer's have spotted a Zerg force consisting of approximatelly 600 zerglings, 400 hydralisks, 30 ultralisks, 10 guardians, and 10 overlords charging towards the south!" The dark templar warrior quickly spouted out
"Oh no!! That's us Xaniir!!" Kelvena screamed out horrified.
"We need your strength Zeltior, it is our home as this place is yours," Xaniir said, disreguarding any previous hostility he had for the dark templar.
Casting a glance at Kelvena then Xaniir, Zeltior bowed his head in solemn thought before finally raising it to the dark templar warrior standing in front of him
"They are Protoss as are we, we will not allow the needless slaughter of our own kind. We will intercept the zerg forces with the bulk of our army, prepare yourselves!" Zeltior said with the ominious ecryption still deep in his mind.
