"You are not one of them young Protoss woman, must you deny your very existance?" The voice tore through Kelvena's sub-conscious.

"What shall you do when you are confronted by your other self? Will you turn and run away in fear? Or will you embrace it?" The low questioning voice continued ripping through her fragile sub-conscience.

"A great war is brewing, you know this young Protoss woman, you can feel it in your very essence of being. When the time comes, what side will you be on?"

The mental thrashing finally over-powered the shaken woman throwing her from her sleep leaving no trace but a thin line of persperation coating her body. Blinking a few times trying to gain focus, she slowly sat up in her bed breathing heavily, still feeling light-headed.

Being only half Protoss, Kelvena was not fully able to handle the psionic aura surrounding the Nexus causing moments of disorientation and dizzyness. But that was the least of her worries, having been shunned from Terran society for being a Protoss/Terran hybrid, she was very reluctantly accepted into Protoss society and stationed in a small protoss encampment on a barren and unexplored dessert planet.

Finally able to muster the strength to pull herself out of bed, Kelvena took small steps forward now feeling a small headache coming on.

"Heh...the psi here is strong...something must be up." She said to herself while solemnly looking at herself in the mirror.

Letting out a loud sigh, Kelvena lightly rubbed her forehead cringing at the dampness. Casting one last hateful glance at her image in the mirror she clumsily walked over to the shower.

"Uck...I have to do something about these stupid voices..." She said out loud while testing the water for warmth with her palm. "And something about this damned headache."

Quickly removing her clothes she hopped in the shower leaving the door wide open. Having the figure of a regular Terran female she was fully comfortable leaving the door open knowing that Protoss males find the Terran figure to be repulsive.

"Kelvena!!" a booming voice called out startling the young hybrid causing her to stumble in the shower.

"Xaniir! Christ you scared me! What can I do for you?" She replied regaining her composure.

"Executor Sabhur wishes to speak with you, do not keep him waiting young one." He replied calmly.

"Oh no prob at all, good timing actually I just finished up my shower." She said jumping out of the shower stark naked in front of the aged high templar.

"Lady Kelvena! Be decent!" Xaniir said startled by Kelvena's audacity.

"Please, Terran's are considered to be nothing more then animals to the Protoss, you wouldnt ask a bengalaas to dress would you?" She replied sarcastically while slipping on her usual attire.

"Kelvena...there is much more to a person then their outward appearance...you may have the body of a Terran, but you have the mind of the Protoss, never forget that." He replied having already honorably turned his back to the naked woman.

"And I thank you for thinking that way Xaniir, its too bad your the only one." She said with a sigh, "You can turn around now, lets head to the executors office."

The two quickly headed out matching eachother stride for stride down the long narrow pathway to the executors office. Kelvena always loved having Xaniir by her side, he protected her from the execrable glances the other inhabitants of the nexus would give her when Xaniir was not there.

Xaniir commanded respect wherever he walked, being over 800 years old and the veteran of some of the most vicious battle's the Protoss have ever known the only thing that bested his courage and strength was his wisdom. Because of this he was able to overlook the appearance of Kelvena and established a great friendship with her even though at 23 years old, she was 800 years his junior. He intentionally remained close to her as her shelter, warding off all the hatred and superstition that accompanied the young hybrid.

Continuing down the bright hallway both of them noticed the ever strengthening psionic aura surrounding them.

"God my head is pounding! Do you have any idea what's going on Xaniir?" Kelvena said holding her head and wincing.

"No...but I certainly would like to find out..." He said contemplating the possibilities.

"This isnt normal...something is wrong..." She said as they approached the doors to the executors office.

Quickly opening the doors to the executor's office the two stood before him, Kelvena trying to hide her obvious nervousness.

"Ahh yes...the high templar Xaniir and his hybrid friend...how are you two doing?" The executor inquired.

"Very well Sir, we wish to know why you would call us before you?" Xaniir said taking the lead.

"Straight to the point then? Very well. As you both might have noticed the nexus is filling with psionic power, this is no accident, we have switched into high gear and must create more psi to feed our ever increasing numbers." The executor replied

"I see...might I ask why you would bolster our numbers so greatly?" Xaniir said remaining as polite as possible.

"To be frank, both Zerg and Terran forces have been spotted on this barren wasteland, I find it hard to beleive that such a meaningless dump would be the center for such activity, thus I seek to increase our numbers to gain a stronger foothold on the planet then our Zerg and Terran adversaries. That's where you come in Xaniir, I want you to command 20 zealots, 10 dragoons, and a single reaver and see if you can find mineral deposits or vespene geysers...if we hope to compete we must have a strong income." The executor once again replied, giving Xaniir all the info.

"A-And me...sir?" Kelvena managed to choke out.

"Yes, the hybrid, I will have you act as a member of our back up defenses, that is all." The executor said very apathetically.

"That's it...??" Kelvena retorted.

The executor turned and looked her straight in the eye, as if to study her. Xaniir nervously cleared his throat and began to talk but was cut off by Kelvena before even being able to finish the first word.

"I have lived in this camp most of my life and have wanted nothing more then to just be a Protoss warrior, now I have the opportunity to prove myself, please sir, let me take it!" Kelvena continued, no longer nervous in front of the executor.

"Kelvena..." Xaniir started but once again was cut off.

"With all due respect sir, you know im much more skilled then even your most stalwart zealot!" Kelvena protested in all sincerity.

"So you wish to accompany Xaniir on this mission?" The executor said in a very loud and booming voice.

"Yes sir!" Kelvena proudly responded, refusing to let the tone of The executor's voice shake her resolve.

"...So be it, you are both dismissed." The executor said waving them away.

The two quickly exited and walked a small distance before stopping and turning to face eachother.

"Whew...that was quite a show you put on back there young one." Xaniir teasingly commented.

"Yeah I thought so too, but it all worked out I guess..." Kelvena replied, still thinking of what just transpired.

"Indeed it did, but a simple scouting mission isnt very strong grounds for proving yourself..." He replied anxious to hear her response.

"Well, something tells me that executor Sabhur has an alterior motive..." Kelvena said deep in thought.

"Yes, I am sensing an alterior motive as well, but it isnt coming from the executor..." Xaniir said once again anxious for her response.

"Heh...cant hide things from you can I Xaniir...to be honest with you, I dont know who I am...All I know is that I was born half Protoss half Terran...I dont even know if I was born in an incubation tube or if I have a mother and father!" Kelvena responded no longer wishing to conceal her feeling's.

"And what does this have to do with the scouting party?" Xaniir said still questioning Kelvena's motives.

"Like I said Xaniir...something tells me this will end up much more then just a simple scouting party..." Kelvena said once again going deep into thought.

Without a word, Xaniir simply motioned Kelvena to go get prepared. As much as he tried to put it out of his mind, 800 years of wisdom told him that Kelvena was right...that he is about to embark on a journey that will forever change the course of his and Kelvena's life.
