Coalition: Dark Rebellion

The dawn of the millennium brought about an age of chaos, destruction and reconstruction. The old order was replaced as the new order set in. The threat of Y2K was replaced by the threat of global terrorism. An organization called The Sons of Earth organized and carried out, a plan of global destruction. Terrorist bombings using deadly nerve agents killed thousands in the super powers of the world. Cities such as New York, L.A., London, Paris and Tokyo were decimated by these bombings. For three days the planet was consumed in chaos, disaster and disarray. Soon after was the global fall of communism. Fidel Castro was dead and the flag of the United States now flew over the royal palace. The economy of North Korea was in ruins and its leaders finally declared peace with the U.S. and South Korea. After fifty years of separation the country was again whole. Vietnam was swallowed up by Burma, as the unification of Southeast Asia was accomplished by the newest Asian power. By 2011 only China remained.

In early May of 2012, the United Nations was disbanded by all of the Earth’s nations. Over the next eight years the Earth would have a series of wars making it the bloodiest era in Earth’s history.

The Russian Civil War erupted the following year after Siberia declared its independence on September 7, 2013. The Siberians defeated the Russian army and was officially recognized by China and the U.S. In fear of Siberian invasion, the Russians entered an alliance with the Ukraine and the three Baltic States. This was the creation of B.U.R.A, the Baltic, Ukrainian, Russian Alliance.

In 2014 the Israelis and Palestinians found peace and formed the unified country of Israel in late October the following year. In an attempt to increase Israel’s size, the government created alliances with Syria, Egypt and Saudi Arabia the following year. Israel was the sixth largest country in the world and would become rivals to Europe and the U.S.

On June 4, 2014 the communists in China were over thrown in the Chinese Rebellion. College students started the rebellion on the twenty-five year anniversary of the Tientamin Square Massacre. The war would mean the end to communism in the world with Korea once again whole, Vietnam was a part of Burma and the death of Fidel Castro in 2011 allowed the U.S. to move into Cuba and take over. The war lasted only three months as many of Chinas leaders stepped down from power. In order to make the new democratic government stronger it entered an alliance with Japan, Siberia, India, and Korea forming the U.A.P or United Asian Powers.

The next year, Australia, Indonesia and New Zealand united to form The Pacific Alliance in April 13, 2016. The leaders of The Alliance wanted more land and planned to attack Asia. One month before the attack, The Alliance nations signed into an pact with the B.U.R.A. The B.U.R.A wanted to retake Siberia and reestablish Russia. On June 23, 2016 The Alliance attacked mainland Asia through Thailand and China. The next day, the B.U.R.A invaded Siberia. Two days later the U.S., Israel, N.A.T.O and the United Asian Powers declared war on The Alliance and the B.U.R.A, World War Three had just begun. As U.S forces attacked Australia from Pacific bases, N.A.T.O and U.A.P. forces attacked the B.U.R.A armies outside Moscow. AN Alliance counter-strikes resulted in the loss Japan and India, while the B.U.R.A capture half of Siberia and parts of China. WW3 came to an end when the U.S, N.A.T.O and Israel launched a neutron bombing raid on Moscow and Sydney. Although the weapon leaves buildings intact, the loss of life was devastating as the radiation death count reached the millions. Total civilian losses were close to Fifteen million. The surrender of The Alliance and Russians was on September 15, 2020 in Beijing.

After the war all nations agreed that a new world organization was needed. this was the birth of the Coalition. With representatives from the U.S., Europe and the United Asian Powers, the Coalition was officially created on December 19, 2020.

The founder and president of the Coalition, Steven Hirt promise to create a united world under one government and one law. The first step was to create equality among the countries. Under the Unification Act of 2020, each country would become a state in the Coalition. All the newly formed states would send five representatives to the Coalition capital located in Washington D.C. These representatives would uphold the interests of their states. A new set of laws were created to keep order in the Coalition. Aside from penalties for murder, theft and other felonies, global laws were also formed. These three global laws were aimed at preventing war and conflict between the newly formed states. Firstly, any form of aggression against any other state is prohibited. Secondly, there will be no concealment of weapons or soldiers. Thirdly, any states that conducts weapons test must have the permission of the elected assembly and the Coalition president. With these laws came a warning from the president himself. Any offender of these laws will be delt with sever and destructive action.

The next phase of Presidents Hirt’s plan for world order was the creation of the Global Police Force. This program formed a world wide police force that would keep order in the Coalition. Dressed in full armor plating and armed with military weapons, these new officers put an end to nearly all major crime organization. President Hirt and the rest of the Coalition believed that they were on the first step towards world peace.

The Coalition capital was wrapped in a December winter as the Coalition president sat down to breakfast. A moment of rest was a rare occation for the young president. Very seldom was the time where he could relax and read his morning paper. He was the president and there was much to do. In less than two weeks itwould be the one year anniversary of the Coalition’s creation. He had to make a speech and needed to consult his staff as to the plans for the celebration. In a few hours he would need to attend the senate assembly. These were the days that he almost wished to be back on the front lines of a battlefield.

He had been in places of high power before, but never had the responsibilty of the world on his shoulders. He had served in three wars before he was twenty-five. His missions had taken him from Asia to Austrailia and he would rise to the rank of Major by the end of his military career. His military experience was both a blessing and a curse. He was a proven leader and a man of great integrity, but many in the Senate questioned the appointment of a soldier in the most powerful position in the world. However, he had founded the Coalition and was entitle to his right to become the first president.

Hirt became a popular figure in the eyes of the public and was hailed by people all over the globe. Hirt however was not a man without enemies. His policies had cost a lot of people a lot of money. In particular were the mob and mafia families around the world, as well as the more powerful drug cartells. Their once powerful empires were quickly being crushed by the new Global Police.

Dictators that were at one time gods in their own countries were reduced to mere statesmen. They no longer held the riegns of power with an iron fist. They had little influnece over their countries and they would do anything to restore their order to their republics.

These matters were far from the presidents mind as he enjoyed the crisp morning air. “Today is a busy day”, he though to himself. The senate was in session today and he had to meet with his ministry officials. A quick change into more formal cloths and he was ready to start another long day.

The first on his agenda was a meeting with his ministry officials. Eight of the ten were appointed because they were the best diplomats, treasures and statesmen in the world. The other two were the best soldiers that Hirt knew. The first was Peter Eisley, a navel lieutenant during the third world war and now an admiral. Eisley and Hirt met while stationed in the pacific. They had become close friends over the years and there was nobody who Hirt trusted more as a Minister of Defense. The second was Hirt’s lifelong friend and fellow soldier, General Chris Faber. Faber wasn’t always a general. When the third great war ended, Faber was merely a colonel. Hirt left army life and began the creation of the Coalition. Faber stayed in the army and would rise to the rank of general. By then, Hirt had suceeded in the creation of the Coaltion and offered Faber a job as his new Minister of War. The life of a soldier no longer held the spark that it once posed and Faber took the job.

Hirt walked towards the cabinet meeting room. He hated walking through the long and winding hallway. It was the only area that passed by the press room and he hated the press. The press however, loved him. He was a young president and a rookie in politics. To the mass media he was gold. At first they followed him everywhere and were after him at all times. As time worn on so did the presidents patience. He began to hide from the cameras and the nosy reporters. At that point the pressed turned ugly and showed it through their columns. Some complained about the childish behavior of the leader of the world. Others hinted that perhaps the president had something to hide. The tabloids claimed a flat out scandal. Each night the news trucks encamped around the Presidential Mansion. The straw that broke the camels back came one warm summer night when the presidents wife, Lauren Hirt fell and broke her leg. It took a half an hour for the news trucks to be moved so the ambulance could get to the masions entrance. As his wife was moved to the ambulance the photographers swarmed around her and blocked the way back to the E.M.U staff waiting in the ambulance. From that point onward the president would never speak directly to the media. He was almost never seen by a news camera and talked to the media by the use of a speaker phone.

He was close to the door and could hear the voices of eager reporters. He started to walk faster, maybe he could pass by without notice. His hopes were dashed as his face was lit by a few bright camera flashes. Secret service men blocked the door as the president walked by. The masses of reporters tried to push their way through, but they were held back. Even while being shoved backwards they shouted out questions. “Sir, is their any truth to the rumors of a scandal at the Presidential Masion?” “Mr. President, is it true that you will be stepping down from office?” “President Hirt, do you plan on resigning because of the of your medical condition?”

Hirt turned the corner finding himself almost running down the hall. He couldn’t deal with the press today and he knew it. He quickly found his head of Chief of Security and began barking orders. “Johnson, I want you to get a security team and get those reporters out of this building and away from the entrances. I don’t care how you do it, but I do not want to see another reporter in this house until tomorrow. Is that understood?” “Yes sir, we’ll have them out of here in half an hour.” The security chief ran down the hall with a few guards as the president headed to the cabinet room.

The cabinet members were reviewing some papers as the president rushed in. “Good morning Mr. President”, they said in unison. “Good morning gentlemen. I have to be at the Senate in an hour so lets keep this one short. Johnson, how’s our finical situation.” “Well sir, the Coalition has doubled its finical gains since last month. The Global Market has gained seven hundred thousand points since it was introduced two months ago. However, trade in Europe and Asia is down do to recent events.” “Recent events?” “Yes Mr. President”, said the Minister of the State. “The situation with the Global Law violations.” “That was announced five days ago and the market was doing fine then. What happened?” “We’ll Mr. President this incident has sparked all kinds of problems. The states have become suspicious of each other.” “Is there anything that we can do?” “Unfortunately sir, we are powerless at the moment. Hopefully the hearings today will calm all the issues.” “Very well, in that case we will wait until next week. Until then I want some options if this does not stop today.” “Yes Mr. President, I’ll see to it.” “Good. I’ll expect a report by tomorrow. Now, Admiral Eisley I understand there is a problem with some of the defense systems in Europe.” “As well as Asia sir. Siberia is also complaining about a lack of troops and weapons. They claim that they want to be ready in case Russia decides to use force.” “Well. what are they asking for?” “They want new land to air anti-missile weapons as well as an permit to increase military production.” “How much production do they want?” “They need a permit for five million new troops and at least a million new tanks, mobile rocket launchers and mobile artillery.” “Tell them that I’ll give them permits for the anti-missile request, but I have to consult the senate for that much production. Any other requests?” “There have also been requests made by Britian and Germany.” “What do they want?” “Prototype neutron bomb technology.” “No.” “May I remind you that this is the fifth time they have requested and Spain does have neutron weapon technology.” They have neutron bomb capabilities too, as well as the rest of N.A.T.O. The answer is no. That prototype is still restricted to american and Isralis use only. It’s still in its testing stage and both countries, the Senate and myself need to vote in favor of arming them before the weapons can be deployed. I can not simply grant their requests. If that’s settled, is there anything else.” “No Mr. President. I do believe that is the last on the agenda.” “Very well then, I’ll see you all tomorrow.” “Yes, Mr. President.” The meeting ajourned and the ministers filed out of the room.

Hirt stood by the window and stared out at the slow falling snow. “Chris we need to talk, you too Pete”, he said without looking back. “Yes”, Chris said quietly. “I need to know how the Spainish got their hands on neutron bomb technology.” “The Spanish say they discovered it on their own.” “I know that Pete, but I just do buy that story. We all know that Spain doesn’t have the technical capability of building a neutron bomb. How could they have build one in such a short time. Japan doesn’t have that knowledge. The Chinese don’t. Not even the Russians have that kind of technology.” “How do you think they got it Steve?” “I’m not sure Chris. They had to have gotten it from a neutron weapon country. Look I want to make sure that there aren’t any leaks or even worse, someone who’s selling to the highest bidder. Chris. I need you to investigate the U.S and Britain. Pete, I need you to look at Israel, Germany and Italy. If any states have anything strange with records or documents, contact me as soon as possible.” “Yes sir!” The two bolted out the door and were already contacting the research and development centers of the Coalition states. The president was about to sit down, but was interrupted by an aide. “Excuse me Mr. President, but your motorcade is ready.” “All right. Tell them that I’ll be down in a few minutes.” “Yes Mr. President.” The aide scurried down the stairs and Hirt stopped to get himself a cup of coffee. “No rest for the weary”, he thought to himself. “No rest for the weary.” The president turned to the window and stare out at the cloud covered sky as flakes of snow blew past the window. Yet, just as President Hirt’s day was well underway, a young college students day was just beginning.

Asleep in his dorm bed lay Eric Morhurst. A freshman at California State University. Passed out on the floor next to him is his roommate, Ben Atler. A night of drinking and frat parties was too much for the dorm roommates and a mix of beer, music and dancing was about to take its toll.

The sound of a clock alarm echoed in their ears and the hang over made it seem louder and more painful then it really was. Fridays was usually their day off from the Monday to Thursday college schedule and they could have slept through the effects of a case of beer. Today was different though and they needed to be up and ready to leave at five. They were, after all, Coalition Reserve Troops and this weekend was part of their obligations for the government paying for their college bill. A full scholarship, partial military training and a few free meals. For two best friends, what could be better?

Today was one day that they could do without the drill sergeant screaming into their ears. Neither one was ready to get up and they still had to pack for a long weekend. Even thought they needed to be ready by that afternoon, their alcohol induced state would more than likly slow them down. Eric was the first to emerge from his covers and searched for some aspirin. He felt like crawling into bed, but he new that he couldn’t do that. It was almost nine and the trip to the Sacramento Military Compound took at least seven hours. If they didn’t leave soon they would miss the bus and would catch hell from the drill sergeant if they were late again. Eric downed a couple of aspirin and a cup of coffee. He was beginning to feel better and they still had two hours to make the bus. “No problem”, Eric thought to himself. A glance over at his half asleep and half drunk roommate changed his perspective.

Eric walked over to the pool table and grabbed a stick. He then preceded to poke Ben in the ribs. A few grunts verified that he was indeed alive. It would take another half hour for Ben to regain his mobility. With the little time that was left Ben was feed a healthy breakfast of coffee, donuts and pain relievers. With their bags packed, their legs numb and their eyes still focusing to daylight, Ben and Eric ran to catch their bus.

The bus driver decided to let the two, chase after the bus for a mile or so. He had his fun and finally stopped to get them at the city limits. They were greeted to a lecture by the driver and the loud endless laughter from the other passengers. When order was restored they found a seat in the front. The pain from the hangover was now replaced by the cramping pain in their legs. The ride to the base was a long one and they estimated that they had a few hours of solid sleep on the bus. They were able to get two hours of sleep in before someone began kicking the back of their seat. The two tired friends, snapped awake and decided to disipline the offenders who dared to wake them. The two behind Ben and Eric were Simon Trent and Jarod Messer. They too were members of C.S.U and much like Eric and Ben, they were also have asleep. They had kicked the seat by accident and weren’t about to let these two get in their face. They argued their own innocence elegantly directing where Ben and Eric could shove their accusations. A push led to shoving and that led to a right cross to the face. A small scale fight broke out and in the end all four shared a mix of injuries and a few shattered egos.

As the different parties tended to their injuries, the bus came to a hault at Coalition Military Base Longfax. The base was named after General Theodore Longfax, who died during World War Three. The commander of this post was Colonel Arnold Chipel. The base itself was a small instillation. It housed only a thousand full time soldiers and could hold the five hundred weekend reserve troops. It had minimal heavy artiliry storage and did not have a missile silo area. A light defense of guard towers and chain link fencing was all that protected the five square mile base and wilderness training facility.

The reserves stepped off the bus and began to form lines. The four involved in the fight tried in vain to cover their injuries with a ten year old medical kit. Eric, Ben, Simon and Jarod were all bloody messes and they new it was hopeless. Erics right eye was swollen and his mouth was bleeding. Ben had a bloody nose and a large bruise on his cheek. Both Simon and Jarod had bloody noses and swollen jaws. They new that the sergeant would be less than pleased with their conduct and they could not be seen by him.

Luckily, all four were in the second to last row. The sergeant never walked passed their row. He always circled around the front and occasionally the very last row. He only walked in between the rows when he wore his dirt covered hiking boots. That meant they had night combat drills in the forest zone outside the compound. On any other day his boots were spit polished and shined to perfection. He claims that its the duty of an officer to keep his attire clean and presentable. The men of his company believes he watches your reflection on his shoe during push up drills to see your expression.

The men stood around half slouching, until the door to the sargeants office opens. At that point, every man in the company is alert and standing straight. For a moment nobody moves or breathes. The sargent slowly steps into the low and fading light of dusk. His shadow slowly creeping towards the men. He walks slowly and steadily. His boots make a low snapping sound as he walks across the pavement. A small, cold wind waves over the platoon. Some ignore it, while others believe that it is the sargeants doing. This is presence of Sargeant Joe Barrag.

The sargeant is a man in his early forties and had already participated in two wars. He helped defeat the Chinese in the rebellion against the communists and he became a sergeant during World War Three. A large scar over his eye is a token from those wars. He is a strict man who believes in discipline and respect.

All four men knew that they were in deep if he saw there condition. He didn’t like fighting among the men, those who broke this precious rule were punished. Eric’s eye’s were closed as he wished that the sergeant didn’t have his hiking boots on. “Please, don’t have those boots on”, he chanted to himself. Eric opened his eyes and looked at the sergeants feet. His heart skipped a beat as soon as he saw a pair of dusty, dirt covered, crusty boots walking past the platoon. “We are so screwed”, Eric thought to himself as the sergeant drew closer.

The sergeant walked past the four without saying a word as he headed back towards the front of the platoon. All four breathed a slow sign of relief. “This weekend, we will have our war games and survival training drills. You will be broken up into teams. Each teams mission is simple. Survive on your packs and whatever you find in the woods, and eliminate all the other teams. All of you will be given a paintball training gun and enough ammo to last you for one day. To get more ammunition, you must take it from a team or soldier that has been eliminated. As for food, you will all get enough for tonight and the rest of the day tomorrow. I hear that the worms and crickets are excellent this time of year. A few exchanged glances was all that was needed to express the distaste among the men. “You will report to the supply house and recieve your equiptment for the weekend. Dismissed!”

The rigid lines of soldiers melted away as the platoon went to get thier gear. Eric and Ben were both relieved that thay were not caught. They both were in for a huge suprise. “Not so fast Private Morhurst. You and the other pretty boys are to come with me.”

Eric and the others felt their hearts drop into their stomachs. Walking back to the sergeants office was like walking through death row. The sergeant stepped into his office and disappeared behind the light oak door. The four stopped in their tracks as their brains struggled to come up with a valid excuse. “Today gentlemen”, barked the sargeant. They quitely stepped into his office as if the silence could improve their situation.

“Now, gentlemen. I have a theory about those marks on your faces. Either you four got beat in bar fight or there was some sort of brawl on the way here. Since you ladies couldn’t hold your liquer with a bucket, I’ll assume you got in a fight before you got to my camp. Now I don’t like it when my soldiers fight. Fighting creates disunity and disunity creates weakness. I expect my soldiers to be the strongest and that means they have to be loyal to each other. Seeing however, that you boys are already good friends, you four will be together in this weekends training drills. Just you four, a tent and the bugs to keep you company. With that said you are all dismissed.

The group left the sergeant as he watched them shuffle out of his office. The four of them together for a whole weekend. As far as they were concerned, one of two things would happen. Either they would all learn to tolarate each other or they would end up killing each other.

The snow fell slowly on the ground in Washington DC as the sun peaked over the horizon. At this time of day only the global police and the street venders were awake. A street vender opened his news stand for business hoping to attract a few of the police guarding the capital building. He poured himself a cup of coffee as three of the guards decided to get a snack. As they looked for something to eat, the vender made a little small talk. “Cold morning, huh.” The guards made a polite nod and continued with their search. Two guards headed back to their posts and it looked as if the third one was going to be leaving too. The vender wanted to try and make these guys steady costumers and had to think fast. “You boys like to buy a cup of coffee?” It would appear that he now had the guards attention. “Coffee? Yeah sure, how much?” “I guess its about two bucks per cup and about ten for a whole thermos.” The guard took out his wallet, counted a few bills and yelled back to the other cops. “You guys want some coffee?” “How much”, the guards yelled back. “Two for a cup and ten for a thermos.” “Get the thermos and we’ll pay you back.” The man paid for the thermos and turned to bring it back. “You will return that when your done,”the man yelled after him. The guard raised his arm and gave the vender a thumbs up in response. The vender stared at the Coalition capital as he enjoyed his last cup of coffee.

The capital building of the Coalition was quite an impressive structure. It easily dwarfed the old U.N. building that used to be in Manhattan and was one of the most heavily guarded structures in the world. The vender had a bet with his friend that it would take an army to destroy it. In actuality he was almost correct.

In between the smooth granite walls on the outside and the decorative marble walls on the inside was about four feet of reinforced steel. At each entrance there were steel doors about a foot thick that were electronically sealed. Behind those doors were several posted guards and motion sensory machine guns that dropped from the ceiling during an attack. After that first line of defense, an intruder had to pass a series of test ranging from voice pattern sensors to a retina scan. If the intruder did not pass these tests, steel doors would seal him in the testing area and he or she would have to blast his way through five feet of reinforce steel, concrete and bullet proof, bomb proof glass.

In the building itself, there were always about one thousand guards armed with the latest in military weaponry. The buildings roof was designed as a landing strip for military aircraft and had an anti-air missile system. In the event of a nuclear attack, all personnel were rushed to the emergency evacuation tunnels and took an underground bullet train to a military base at Albany.

Today however, these precautions were not needed. The building was in no fear of harm as the world representatives filed into the large assembly area. In that assembly were the representatives from almost three hundred nations and the leader of the united world President Steven Hirt. When all the members were seated, the president called the Coalition Senatorial Assembly to order.

The assembly was not the legislative branch of the Coalition. All the bills were made by the president and the assembly voted the ones they approved into law. The real purpose of the assembly was to settle the countries differences peacefully. The system worked well and any dispute was placed on the agenda for the day.

Today the states of Great Britain, Siberia and Germany were presenting their cases against Spain, Russia and Italy. Each of the accused states had supposedly violated at least one of the three global laws. They would listen to the argument against them and have the chance to present any information to rebut the accusations against them.

The first state to present their case was Britain. A low murmur spread through the crowd as the British senator made his way to the assembly floor. This was the first case where a violation of the global laws would be an issue. The senator organized some notes as a large viewscreen lowered from the ceiling, so that the visual evidence could be seen by all the assembly members.

When the murmuring had ended, the senator began his speech. “President Hirt and my fellow representatives, I sadly come before you today to present Britain’s accusations against the Coalition state of Spain in violation of the second Global Law. As this law states, “any states that conducts weapons test must have the permission of the elected assembly and the Coalition president”. Spain has violated this law by illegally conducting nuclear weapon tests without the consent of both the assembly and the president of the Coalition. As it is seen in this video footage taken by a British tourist, there is a blinding red light and a column of fire and smoke that is attributed to a neutron bomb explosion.” The video on the viewscreen was without a doubt a neutron explosion and since only the U.S., Israel, and N.A.T.O had neutron bomb technology, it was disturbing to find that a non-N.A.T.O country like Spain might have this type of power. A second wave of murmuring began as the other members of the assembly began arguing among themselves. Some wanted to know how the British knew that it was Spain. Others were curious as to how this nation had gotten this technology. When silence had once again been established, the senator continued. “The cruise ship that this scene was taped from was not the only ship that witnessed this explosion. A British battleship, the M.H.S Helena, out on patrol went to investigate the cause of the explosion. Upon its nearing to the blast site, it stopped a destroyer leaving the area at full speed. The destroyer was asked to stop and the ship did come to a stop. The markings on the ship identified it as a Spanish destroyer and the battleships captain, in spanish, asked the destroyers captain if he had seen the explosion. It was at this point that the spanish captain pulled out a pistol and fired at the british officer. The officer was struck in the shoulder and ordered for his men to fire at the destroyer using the ships on deck machine guns. Knowing that a battleship could crush a destroyer, the spanish captain surrendered. Upon a full search of the vessel, it was found that a team of scientists were aboard the destroyer along with the regular crew. They were the scientists who had built the neutron bomb and they had detonated it from the destroyer in the middle of the atlantic ocean. All of this information was obtained from our navel interrogators.”

The senator climbed the steps and resumed his seat as the Spanish senator rose to give an explanation. The only excuse given was the fact that it was in international waters and far from any populated region. The assembly did not see eye to eye with the senators reasoning and were defiantly not pleased with the fact that Spain tried to go behind the assemblies back and undermine their authority.

The next two cases were mirror images of each other. Siberia accused Russia of espionage and claimed to have the agent in custody at that very moment. Espionage was clearly unprovoked aggression on the part of the Russian government and a violation of the first global law. The Russians said that they were unaware of the agents activities and said that he had acted alone. The Russians also planned to prosecute this lone agent as soon as he was in Russian custody.

Germanys charges of illegal concealment of troops and weapons against Italy was likewise an open and shut case. This violation of the second global law was brought to the attention of the Coalition several weeks earlier when Coalition weapons inspectors from the N.A.T.O branch made a surprise inspection of several European countries. Italy said that a delay in construction would need to be fixed in order for more accurate results. This delay lasted about two weeks and inspectors were forced to get a order by the president to search the military bases. For about a week inspections went well, until a German group of inspectors discovered a enormous amount of short range nuclear missiles in a missile silo that was supposed to be abandoned. The reports the German senator presented to the assembly clearly showed that there were approximately five hundred nuclear missiles hidden in the silo. The Italian senator explained that these were old missiles that were supposed to have been destroyed and that they were now being demolished.

The assembly upon hearing the tesimony from the different states began to vote infavor of the accused or against the accused. Italy, Spain and Russian supported each other and recieved votes from Austrailia and the Ukraine, but the overwhelming majority fell to their opposition.

The majority of votes were in favor of Britain, Siberia and Germany. The senate immediately ordered the offender countries to pay reparations if necessary and to be inspected by Coalition inspectors. The day ended with the a few words from the president and the singing of the Coalition anthem. Those leaving the meeting had a sense of hope for the future, while some left with bitter resentment towards there fellow nations.

The forests outside of Longfax were incredible. The military base was located almost next to the once famous Yosemite National Park. The base now occupied ten square miles of the park after purchasing it from the United States government. The small plot of land was worth a good five million. There was suprisingly little protest from wildlife protection groups. The area purchased was left undisturbed and remained as a reality based survival course. Nothing but a survival pack and your military issue tactical knife. The mission is to survive on nothing but your own training, survival pack and a half a days ration of food and water. Three days and two nights later, you will hopefully come out of the forest only a little hungry or you’ll develope a taste for bugs. On this particular mission the foremost objective was stay “alive”, as it was that each soldier was armed with paintball air rifles and the orders were shoot to kill.

Eric and Ben started out with Simon and Jarod pulling up the rear. The four headed north until coming to the river. This is about the point where the new group of “friends” had there first argument. “Guys? I really think we should avoid the river.” “Why, may I ask, must we avoid the river Simon?” “Well for one thing Eric, everyone will be headed this way. If we want to avoid confrontation, we have to set up away from the river. Preferably on that ridge. Nobody will be going there.” “Maybe that’s because that ridge is full of rocks! You want us to climb that?!” “Don’t yell you idiot! Do want everyone to hear you?! We’re lucky if we aren’t being surrounded by the others right now!” “Stay out of this Jarod or do you need me to beat the hell outta you again?”

Before things could escalate the fighting was broken up by gunfire. The team took cover behind some rocks and returned fire. Another team had heard the commotion and had sneaked up on them. The battle raged for about ten minutes without either side showing any signs of surrender. The other team had a better posittion and was slowly closing in on the disorganized band. Desperate for a way out, Simon offered a solution. “Eric!” “What!” “You see the rock cliff behind us?” Eric looked behind to see a small cliff with a rock and steep path leading to the top. “Yeah, what about it?” “I need you to climb it.” “What?!” “You heard me. I need you to climb it.” “I’m not climbing that. I’ll get shot or i’ll fall.” “Look! This is not the time to argue. They are about to circle around us unless we do something. If you can get to the high ground you can pick them off.” “What if they shot me?” “We’ll cover you. Unless you have a better idea get going.” Eric didn’t have another idea. It was either get shot climbing or get shot on the ground. So with one final deep breath, Eric scrambled up the cliffside. The others popped up and open fire, releasing a mad spray of bullets. One enemy soldier was struck in the chest as the rest ducked for cover. Eric pulled himself onto the cliff and opened fire on the enemy soldiers, who now were hiding behind the bushes. They were totally unaware of the barrel now pointed at them. Eric picked off two soldiers before the remaining soldier surendered. The victorious team reveled in the spoils of war. Thier opponents rations, water and ammo were now nussled away in thier packs. A round of good fight was said by all as the losers headed back to base.

They continued onward to find shelter for the night. They choose to set up camp on a small cliff that extended from a large hill. They built a fire and ate their set of rations in celebration of their victory. Everyone was feeling great as they searched through their confiscated packs to see what the spoils of war had gotten them. Everyone was pleased with their plunder, except for Jarod who was angry about his own ration situation. “I can not believe this”, Jarod yelled. “Believe what”, asked his teammates. “That guy ate his rations already. How could he have eaten them already?.” “He was probably hungry.” “Yeah Eric, do you suppose that’s why their gone captain freakin’ obvious!” “Well nobody told you to take his pack”, Eric shouted back. “Well you guys didn’t leave me much choice now did you!” “What do you mean you guys”, Ben replied angrily. “What do you think I mean? You and Eric were the first to take a pack. That pack should have been mine!” Ben looked down at the bag in his hand and began to turn it around in his hand and stare at it. “What the hell are you doing!” “I was just looking to see exactly where the hell your name is on my bag!” “That does it”, screamed Jarod as he pulled his paint gun out. “I’m gonna shoot you myself!”

Jarod never did get a chance to shoot Ben. As it would turn out, another team had heard all the comotion and decided to try a sneak attack. Since nobody was guarding their site, the group had now circled around them. The sounds of screaming, gun fire and splattering paint were the only thing muffuling Jarod’s stream of obsinities as he held his knee. The first shot fired had smashed into his knee cap and it hurt like hell. The potential ambush was short lived as both teams found out what happen when Jarod got pissed. Jarod with his gun in hand and was now out for blood. Anything that was not inside the camp circle was shot. The ambushers soon found themselves lying on the ground and trying to contimplate weather or not to move.

With another team eliminated another round of good fight was said by all with the exception of Jarod who had a suggestion of where they could stick there paintballs. In accordence with the rules of this excersice, Jarod could not use his left leg. This was to simulate an actual wound. He would either build a crutch, be carried or crawl. Jarod rooted through the newly confiscated bags to select exactly what pack he would take. The fact that he had an itchy finger on the trigger of his gun convinced his teammates that this was the only fair thing to do.

The next couple of days went on without a hitch. Jarod built a crutch out of a tree limb he found and the team made their way through the hostile back country creating a very impressive string of victories. They emerged a couple of days later with a new found respect for each other and believe it or not, as friends.

Back in Washington, the search for the leak of neutron bomb technology was now approaching its fourth day. Faber’s investigation had lead nowhere. Both Britain and the U.S. were clear from any wrong doing. Faber was now assigned to investigate the Russian and Italian accusations as Admiral Eisely continued his investigation.

Peter Eisley sat in his office staring at his desk. It was littered with the official reports on any information about the neutron technology from Italy, Germany and Israel. He also had the reports from the incident involving the British battleship and the Spanish destroyer. While Israel and Germany were in the clear, Italy was growing continually shadier. He had been racking his brain for hours and had now yielded some interesting coincidences. The materials used in constructing the circuit board for detonating the bomb was from a Spanish weapons research company. However, the writing inscribed on the microchips and other electronic components were in Italian. Also interesting was the fact that on the Spanish destroyer that the bomb was detonated from, was its regular crew, a team of scientists and a translator. The translator was not considered an important piece of this mystery although it was quite strange to Peter that an Italian translator was aboard a Spanish vessel. Italy claimed not to have know about the spanish neutron bomb project and that its own information on that particular weapon system remained undisturbed. It’s story had checked out but the mystery of the circuit board chips still had him puzzled. The Italian weapons lab that the components were manufactured in reported no theft or missing shipments. This was the only place that Italy had the technical capabilities to construct the detonation control boards needed to use a neutron bomb.

Peter sat there for hours trying to unravel this confusing situation, but the more he uncovered the less his theories made sense. At first he believed that the Italians must of had a secret facility for constructing these weapons. But where would the money be coming from to build such a facility. The materials needed for construction of a labratory and those need for the bomb would stretch into the billions. The uranium used in the bomb itself was standard U-32 uranium used in all nuclear weapons. The heavy cost for producing a neutron bomb came in the intensification process. By increasing the deterioration process found in all radioactive materials, the neutron bomb releases a pure form of radiation without a devastating explosion. It instead releases a cloud of deadly radiation killing all life in a five mile radius. The intesification process allows the radiactive cloud to disintigrate, rather than contaminate further by seeping into ground water. After a period of one month the radiation disappears and all structures and vehicles are available for the use of the invading country.

The machinery for both containment and the intensification procedure would cost millions in materials, construction and electronic equipment. Italy, althought a self sufficiant country was far from economically stable to support this kind project alone. It already owned money to several nations including Austrailia, Britain and Russia. If Italy was responsible for supplying weapons technology to Spain, Spain would also suffer from economic depression. It to had loans from Russia and Austria. A project the size and cost of a neutron bomb would be impossible to fund for a country like Spain.

Eisley reviewed the reports over and over. He tried to find a link between the Italians and Spanish, but he found none. He looked over the treasury reports in an attempt to find some strange expense. Nothing out of the unusal. The highest expense on the list was a loan from Russia for two million dollars towards medical research. “Medical research”, Peter said to himself. “Why do they need medical aid?” Peter began sifting through the piles of Coalition budget proposals. These proposals held the entire budget for the year 2011. Every state was given a portion of the Coalition relief fund for natural disasters or other catastrophes. Spain was given a large grant for an epidemic of an unknown strain of influenza. The aid was to go to research and to prevent the spread of the epidemic. Peter scrolled down the report and there in front of him was an aid grant to Spain for an epidemic. According to the reports, the epidemic ended on september sixth, two thousand eleven. The aid from Russia arrived on October nineteenth of the same year.

Peter was shocked to see what was in front of him. What he had been struggling with for days now finally made sense. All three were in this together. Russia provided the capital to Spain and Italy would provide the technical blueprints to build a.neutron bomb. Russia couldn’t build one without the project being noticed. It paid Spain to build the bomb and it paid Italy for the plans. In the end, Russia had its bombs, Spain had its bombs and Italy had a few extra million dollars. A conspiricy to control the ultimate weapon. With it, they could be unstoppable.

Peter reached for the phone and called President Hirt’s desk. It was busy. “His office is only a few minutes from here”, he said to himself. “I’ll show him in person.” Peter grabbed every file he could and dumped it in a box. He didn’t even wait for the elevator as he raced down four flights of stairs with his box of evidence in hand. “This is awful”, he thought to himself. “Three dangerous and agressive countries, armed with the most devistating weapon known to man. I have to tell Steven. This could be a disaster.”

He rushed to his car and threw the box in. A quick turn of the key and he would be off. Unfortunately, Peter Eisley never made it to the presidents office. He never showed the president his mountain of evidence. He never even left the parking lot. As soon as he turned to key a bomb killed Peter Eisley and destroyed nearly all off his proof that a conspiracy was at hand.

If you listen closely, beyond the noise of screams and the sound of sirens, you can hear footsteps. The footsteps, approach a telephone booth. A collect call is placed and in spanish, below the noise of the fire trucks and squad cars, you can hear the messege from the bomber. “The threat to are plans has been, eliminated.”

“Excellent to hear. You have done well. I assure you that you will recieve a great reward.” One silenced gun shot later and the assasin recieves his reward. The gentleman hangs up the phone and revels in the success of his plan. Soon, the Coalition police will find a man killed by a gunshot wound to the head. It apparently was “self inflicted”. In his pocket they will find his identity to be Christopher Heine, a former German lieutenant turned terrorist. His organization, the German Liberation Front, was once a powerful force in Germany that sought the end of the Coalitions control over their homeland. This organization was short lived as the Coalition killed many leaders and followers within the G.L.F.

They will also discover a suicide note claiming that he would gain revenge on those who had destroyed them. After killing the presidents most trusted advisor, he would join his fallen brethren. Those investigating the assassination would have to assume that this was a ploy for revenge. As luck would have it, Eisley had taken most of the information with him and it too was destroyed. With him out of the way, we can now begin our plans for mass production of our newest weapons. The gentleman looks around at his co-conspirators. Seated around him sit the most powerful men on Earth. The Prime Minister of Russia, The Chancellor of Italy and the presidents of several african ans South American nations.

“But what if they begin to suspect us in having a hand in this”, asked a worried prime minister. Our involvement was supposed to have been limited. Our spy was caught and the nuclear weapons in Italy were discovered. Now with the Coalition aware of your neutron capability, they will be keeping a close eye on us.” The other leaders shared his concern, but the Spanish president proceded to assure his comrads in arms. “Gentlemen. As you have all know, I have taken care of any threat to our little secret. The nuclear weapons were moved and that spy has given the ultimate price for our cause. The new Coalition is a failure. Hirt and his government have made us mere puppets for his way of order. I once ruled this country under my own law, but now I have barley any control. I know that every single one of you feel the same way. Before the Coalition we were kings and we had control over our own countries. Once my plan has suceeded, we will enjoy our freedom again. Others will follow and the Coalition will be destroyed.

It was a cold and cloudy day that December. No birds flew overhead and there wasn’t a single ray of sunshine that afternoon. In these somber conditions, Minister of Defense Admiral Peter Eiesly was buried at Arlington National Cemetary. In attendence was the president of the Coalition and friend, President Steven Hirt. As well as Minister of War General Christopher Johnathan Faber and the other ministers and joint chiefs. The widow, Patricia Eiesly and her children Mark and Danelle sat in front huddle together. They are consoled by those around them as Patricia tries to keep herself together, even when they hand her the flag from her husbands coffin.

Amidst the sound of a bugle and a twenty-one gun salute, President Hirt steps in front to deliver a eulogy to his departed friend. “I met Peter back during the third world war. I called him lieutenent and he called me colonel. Peter was in command of the crew that manned our transport ship. He would drop us off onto the beach and head back out to sea and he was there to meet us when we were done fighting. He always had a smile for you when he saw you come aboard and tears for when a soldier didn’t come back. I will always cherish those days with my friend. He wasn’t just a member of my cabinet. He was a member of my family. He could be the older brother I never had or even a second father. At times he seemed like my mother when he caught me smoking. He was always there to cheer you up or to comfort you in your times of need. He was a true friend and I will miss him dearly as will we all.” Hirt saluted his fallen friend and personally presented the widow with the flag from his coffin. The coffin was lowered into the ground and the mourners departed. All excepted the president who stood over the grave until the last shovel of dirt was laid to rest. The president walked to his limousine and drove away. In the silence questions streamed into his mind. Why did this group target Peter? What did they have to gain from it? There came no ready answers as the president was left to ponder these questions for the next few days.

Hundreds of feet below the Earth, in a heavily guarded bunker, President Juan Mendez sits quietly as he reviews the events of the past week. The Coalition was able to find that Spain now had neutron bomb capabilities. The missiles in Italy would have to be relocated and a series of condolences were to be placed to the wife of the young agent found dead in America. The plans for rebellion were almost revealed by Eisley until he was eliminated. As of the moment, there is no evidence linking the governments of Spain, Russia and Italy to any conspiracy. The time to unviel their master plan was coming closer. In two days the forces under Spanish control would be ready for defensive combat. Italy as well as Russia would also be prepared for war. War was a certainty in this situation. The Coalition was not about to let countries that had control of neutron technology to just break away from Coalition control.

There was still the matter of signing non-aggression treaties with several key nations. “Who knows”, he thought to himself. “Maybe we could find others who would like to join our noble cause.” Australia would definitly be interested in such an alliance. With Austrailia as a part of their group, they would have great control in both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. It would also be crucile for the middle eastern countries to sign non-aggression treaties with them as well. Especially Israel, as it is one of the few neutron capable nations in the world. They have not only a formidable army, but the latest in military equipment. A non-aggression treaty from them would leave the southern front clear of invasion. The only real threats came from N.A.T.O and the United States. The U.A.P had been disbanded as the Coalition spread its control over Asia. The disbanding of the U.A.P had greatly weaken the Pacific Rim of nations. Japan and Korea had done well independently, but India was in the mist of a famine and Siberia’s farm industry was recovering from vicious snow storms. The real assult would come from France and Portugal first. Britian would attack next and Germany would assult after Austria. Russia would then respond to attacks from Poland and Turkey. The addition of Australia to the alliance would prevent assults from Japan, China and Korea.

If at all possible, non-aggression treaties would have to be signed with Germany, Isreal, and China. Treaties had already been signed with most of Africa and South America. The leaders of those countires felt the same way about the new Coalition order. Unfortunatly they did not have the military capabilities to allow there opinions to be expressed. They did however have enormous sums of capital to fund a military power. African diamond minds and gold from South America still went far, even in todays Coalition run economy.

It was an extremely beneficial situation. Spain, Russia and Italy declared independence from Coalition control and they in turn would free other nations worldwide. Those nations would in the meantime, secretly fund their part of the war. After all, their were bombs to be built and soldiers to pay. “Still”, the president reminded himself, “money is only so usfull when you are surrounded on all sides. We need these treaties to be signed. If they aren’t, many people are going to die.” The president reflected upon his situation as he sipped his wine and thought of the talks that were now in progress on the other side of the world.

The storm had passed over the a small ship anchored in international water outside the coast of Austrailia. On board are the seven crew members, two russian soldiers and an ambassador. The crew talks amoung themselves as the ambassador gathers his papers together. The two soldiers enjoy a smoke on the bow and try and decipher the purpose of their mission. The instructions given for this particular mission were very vague and niether knew what was their true purpose on this small boat in the South Pacific.

“I’m not even sure the captin knew what our mission is. Protect the ambassador. From what? I can’t shoot the enemy if I don’t know who the enemy is.” “Maybe there is no enemy.” “What do you mean no enemy? What are we protecting him from. The fish, the seagulls, what?” “I don’;t mean that. Do you know what he has in that briefcase of his?” “What?” “A treaty agreement for the Australians.” “A treaty agreement? What do we need a treaty for? Why doesn’t Russia just go directlyt to the Australians ambassadors office? Why do we have to be on a boat, getting tossed around the Pacific?” “I can’t be sure. Whatever meeting is occuring tonight is definitely a secret.”

It was seven minutes to midnight when the sleepy crew snapped to attention. The two soldiers accompanied the ambassador as he hurried to the top deck. The night air was cold and the stars were at their brightest. On the horizon was a dark shadow. It covered the stars and was moving towards them. The shadow took the form of a ship, an Australian Destroyer. The ambassador stood on the deck of his own ship, flanked by his guards.

The warship came alongside them, the ambassador and his two guard entourage took a small boat from thier ship to the destroyer. Once aboard, the captin welcomed the ambassador and the three were lead below. They were lead to a small meeting room where the Austrailian Ambassador was seated. The russian ambassador sat down and pulled several documents out his briefcase. The two guards were ordered to wait outside until the meeting was over. The two guards left the room disappointed that they would be unable to discover the purpose of this meeting. As they left, a translator entered the room, but he too was dismissed. The door was closed and the three left outside were forced to wonder what was going on in the room next to them.

“Can I offer you anything to drink”, the Austrailian Ambassador asked cordially. “Perhaps later, after we reach an agreement.” “Your not one to waste any time are you? I like that. When you contacted us you said you wanted to sign a treaty. I’ll admit that we weren’t planning on signing any treaty with you until your government confeesed it was a non-agression treaty. My government is very interested in what you have to propose. If its good, we will gladly sign your treaty. If it isn’t, then this meeting never took place. Those are the terms set by my government for now. If you have a problem with these terms then this never happened.”

“I completly understand and I do accept those terms. Russia would also appreciate complete denial of these events if we do not reach an agreement. I also would like to inform you and your government that Russia and those who are allied with us have a much more intriging and valuable treaty than a simple non-agression pact.” “I don’t understand. I was never made aware of another treaty.” “Please, you must understand that the governments that are represented by myself and Russia were unsure of your governments reaction to the treaty that I am about to propose.” “What are the terms of this new treaty?” The Russian ambassador opened his briefcase and removed a set of blue papers. The Australian Ambassador looked on with great curiosity as to what this new treaty offered his government. “Russia, Spain and Italy are very interested in a new treaty between them and The Pacific Alliance.” “The Pacific Alliance is no longer in existence. You are only petitioning the cooperation of Australia and no one else.” “I know that is not true and that the Pacific Alliance is not only in existence but, is also the foremost military power in the Pacific Rim. We know that the Pacific Alliance has been operating under the Coalition ever since the Third World War ended. True you are not officially called The Pacific Alliance but, you do keep trade treaties with each former P.A. country. Not only that but, you know as well as I do that the Pacific Alliance Council is still in existence. This treaty is intended for not only for Australia but, it is intended for the entire Pacific Alliance.” The Australian Ambassador sat silently looking for an explanation. There was none. After much thought as to how to play the hand that was given, he honestly addressed the ambassadors accusations. “I do not know what frightens me more. The fact that you knew about our existence or the fact that you did not report us to Coalition authorities. What is it exactly that you have in mind that you would not alert the Coalition to our existence?” The Russian ambassador slide the treaty towards his Australian counterpart as he spoke. “The treaty before you, is a defensive and offensive alliance with the nations of Russia, Spain and Italy. The purpose of this alliance is towards the succession from the control of the Coalition.”

The Australian ambassador sat back and tried to contemplate what was in front of him. In its pages sat a treaty that would allow Australia to succeed from Coalition control. The Australian government had considered declaring independence from the Coalition, but knew that an attempt would be unsuccessful. With this treaty however, they had allies. They had access to neutron weapons and they had the resources to defend against an attack. “I’ll have to contact my superiors about this new treaty. You understand of course?” “By all means. I hope they accept this new treaty. The governments under my representation are very interested in a response as soon as possible.” The ambassador began to dial but already knew the response he would get. “Hello, this is Ambassador Cromwell for the President. I don’t care if he’s in a meeting, tell him it is urgent and that I must speak with him.” The few seconds it took for the secretary to connect him to the presidents desk seemed like an eternity. His mind was racing at the proposal that sat before him. Freedom from the Coalition, was it possible? The bellowing voice of the president snapped the Cromwell out of his deep contemplation. “Cromwell, this had better be bloody important. You have interrupted a very important meeting with the Pacific Alliance Council.” “Sir, forgive me but, is it only the counsel with you in that room sir?” “Yes, why is that important?” “Could you please put me on the speaker phone?” “What is all this about/ You were suppose to have signed the treaty. Where are you? What happened with the treaty?” “I will be happy to answer your questions sir but, the other council members must hear what I have to say.” “Very well, your on speaker phone now. What is it that is so important?” Cromwell took a deep breath and tried to explain the situation. “President Wallace and esteemed council members, I am in a treaty signing conference with the Russian Ambassador. As you all know, the intent of this conference was to sign a non-aggression treaty with Russia. The situation has changed dramatically.” “What do you mean the situation has changed?” “The governments of Russia, Spain and Italy are now offering us a treaty that will unite their countries with the Pacific Alliance, in an allied succession from the Coalition.” The other end of the line went silent as the President and the council soaked in what they had just been told. After a minute of silence the president adressed the ambassador. “Cromwell?” “Yes sir, I’m here.” “Give us a moment to vote on this new treaty.” “Yes sir.” Again, the small meeting room aboard the ship was silent. A few minutes later the ambassadors phone rang with a response. It was the president. “Cromwell?” “Yes sir?” “Tell the russian ambassador, our armies with be ready in two weeks.” “I understand sir. I’ll have the documents for you to sign in the morning.” As Cromwell hung up the phone he looked up to see the ambassador preparing to leave. “That was the council, they have approved the treaty. Would you care for that drink?” “No thank you. I must take my leave. I am scheduled to meet with the Council of Govenors in Beijing tomorrow. Perhaps another time.” “Perhaps. The president has informed me to tell your country that the armies of the Pacific Alliance will be ready in two weeks.” “Excellent, I shall inform my government of the councils desicion. Until we meet again.” With that he ajusted his hat and left with his guards. He was on his way to his own ship as the destroyer mades its way towards its own dock.

As the two ships made their way back to their respected harbors the russian ambassador called his own superiors to inform them of the great news. “Please patch me throught to the Prime Minister. This is Ambassador Serov, please inform him that this concerns the trade agreements. Yes I’ll hold.” The moment of silence allowed Serov time to pour a glass of brandy. He wopuld need all the sleep he could get. It wouldn’t be long until he would present his case to the government of China and he wanted to be ready and alert. “Serov.” “Yes mister prime minister.” “What do you have to report?” The Australians have agreed to the treaty. They are now officially allies of our governments. Thier ambassador has informed me that there armies will be ready in two weeks.” “That is good. They will be ready in time for the final phase. No need to alter our plans, that
