Battle of the Newbs: ZeonPeon vs. Mr.Cod

The battlefield for this match is the observer version of Byways II, which is the original Byways with resources increased about 25%. Some of you may remember it as the demo map. The reason there's a shitty blown-up minimap is that Byways is the only Blizzard melee map to have the distinction of being neither a Starcraft nor a Brood War map, therefore it has no enlarged map image on battle.net/scc. You can download it here.

Our game begins with the players setting up their bases.
ZeonPeon randoms zerg and lands in the top left, while Mr.Cod chooses toss and warps into the bottom right. The observers are I, Z}shArp, and pigkiller.

Zeon makes an overlord at 9 supply and sends it to scout the bottom left corner of the map (his first ovie already making its way to the top right). He goes late pool, mutating one at 11 and building a second hatchery at 13. In the toss corner, Cod builds a pylon at 7, and gates at 8 and 9 each.

During all this,
Cod ventures a probe to the top left. It sees the pool still mutating and retreats to the toss base. He soon pops out two zealots and sends them, along with two probes, to attack the red main.
The assault fails due to drone/ling macro and the aid of a martyred sunken, owned by probes.

Zeon decides to cower under his turtle shell and builds 4 new sunken colonies. After a second attack by two zeals is overpowered, a third hatch is built at 15 and finally an extractor at 17. Meanwhile, Cod erects a core, a third gate and an assimilator all at 23 supply.

A lull in the fighting begins, as both parties begin teching (I use the word loosely).
Zeon builds a hydra den, while Cod builds a citadel and a stargate. Red hydras begin appearing out of three hatcheries, and teal zealots are pumped relentlessly out of three gateways with the occasional goon mixed in.
A zergling speeds its way past slow-to-react zealots and explosive-damaging goons to scout the teal base, noting the zeal mass, three gates, and citadel. However, it fails to notice the stargate tucked away on the left side of the base before dying.

The silence is broken when eighteen zerglings and twelve hydralisks rampage into the protoss base, only to be cut down like wheat to a scythe by over a squad of zealots with minor dragoon support. No zerg units survive their baptism by fire to tell the tale to their newly-hatched grandoffspring, dandling them on their knees (or whatever appendages hydralisks use to dandle). A corsair makes its way to the top left but is spotted by the doomed attackers on the way down, and is promptly exploded by vigilant hydras at the red base.

After this confrontation, both parties expand;
Zeon to the top right, Cod to the bottom left. Zeon's overlord that was sent to the bottom left at the beginning of the game had already exited the scene, so the probe sneaks in undetected.
Soon after the expansion hatchery is completed, a teal scout flies to the top right. It harasses the drones and kills an overlord before being chased away by hydralisks.
Both commanders remain dormant after this, as they ramp up production at their expansions.

The peace could not last forever, and almost fifty hydras are directed to strike at the stronghold in the bottom right. The marauders kill all visible defenders and appear to be about to raze the base when the telltale *zzt* of dark templar is heard. Four dts move stealthily among the hydralisks and soon slaughter the confounded attackers, who have no detection support.

Zeon, possessing slow overlords due to the fact that he has four hatcheries and not one lair, pilots two freshly hatched gasbags to the toss base. He moves another couple squads of hydralisks to the entrance of Cod's main so they coincide with the overlords arriving there. Attacking again, his 0-0 forces are held at bay by 1-0-1 (armor-shields-attack) zealots and dark templar while a corsair, a scout, dragoons and an archon busy themselves with the ovies. The detectors are quickly popped and it's yet another easy win for the dts. After the battle is over, the six surviving dts have thirty-two total kills.

Will
Zeon try a different strategy?... Will he manage to produce something besides 0-0 hydras? The answer is (quite obviously) no. In the beginning of the end, he discovers the bottom left expo with a hydralisk and sends twelve hydras down to kill it. He manages to destroy the expansion, in his only small victory this game.
While
Zeon is occupied, Cod orders all his attack units up to the top left and completely crushes the base with a mixture of zealots, goons, archons and dts. Soon after the bottom left expansion falls to hydralisks, the toss force moves toward the top right, where Zeon is frantically trying to rebuild his base. He has a few hydras and two creep colonies, which are unmorphed because he (surprise!) doesn't even have a spawning pool. The base dies within a minute and gg's are passed round, mostly by Zeon as you can see in this screenshot.

Well, this was my first br. I don't expect it to get more than a 6, and probably less than that. The most glaring flaw is that it doesn't really seem like a good game, which it isn't, but I was damn tired of not obsing anything decent and it was a pretty funny game, illustrating Zeon's complete lack of skill. Also, it was nice and simple and fairly short, good material for my first br... I didn't want to dive headlong into anything tough. To all you people who are going to flame me in the comments, saying it wasn't funny, the pics suck, the layout sucks, the br sucks, I suck more than Zeon does, etc. etc., fuck you.

P.S. I wanted to make some "this has been a
ground-LOBP- production" picture in the tradition of every other fucking battlereporter on this site, but I couldn't wangle the transparencies and stuff in Corel PhotoPaint to do what I wanted them to do. So let's just leave it at that, and imagine I put a picture there. OK? Or I'll come to your house and saw off your kneecaps.
