I have done a report like this before, but this is muuuuch more cool...
Background Info:
Me and a friend had decided to play a friendly game o' Civilization II. If you don't know what the game is, you can't call yourself a gamer.
As we set up the game, we chose the World(small) map. It's a small version of the world, as we wanted a quick game. This, however, was not to be. (this is called "forshadowing")
We choose our teams. I chose the Chinese and my friend chose the Persians(Authors Note: He probably did this to bug me. Persian messengers wear blinding emerald green suits.)
Aaaaaaand they're off!
I started off in the south west side of Asia, and promptly build Shang-Hai. I did the usual expansion, and developed Warrior Code to let me get archers. In my opinion, the Archer class of unit is the best until you get Tanks and Mech. Infantry.
I sent of a Warrior to scout. The warrior is the basic unit. They have 1A 1D 1M (Attack Defense Movement). After about 7 turns, in which I got 3 more citys, and the Archers to defend them, I also set Shang-Hai to work on the Colossus. I found the Russians. They promply demanded I give them 100 gold or they would "crush my puny civilization". Ahuh. I denied, and they declared war. Their Horseman (2A 1D 2M) crushed my puny Warrior, but I'll admit he took the Horseman down half health.
By about this time, my friend's Horseman found me. The blinding GREEN SUIT(™) of the persian emmisary was too much, and I was forced into exchanging knowledge. I gained Pottery, but the evil GREEN SUITed persians gained Warrior Code. This made me think. 29 turns into the game and he hadn't got warrior code. This could mean 3 things:
1.)He's decided to go for power-econamy and has forgon Military techknologys. SC eqiv: He's powering peons.
2.)He's a super expansionist, getting uber citys and forgoing tech until he has the power advantage. SC eqiv: He's power-expanding.
3.)He's a super militarist. Forgoing BOTH tech AND expanding, he's going for power units. I find this unlikley, as he would have gotten warrior code to power-up his armys, but oh well. SC eqiv: He's powering units.
Veteran Settelers, English incursions, and Russian arrogance.
I have decided to take out the Russians early and gain the initiative and the advantage. Why, you ask, is destroying a civilization an advantage? Unlike in SC, you capture enemy citys. Thus, I would furthur my ends in two ways:
1.)I would crush an enemy, freeing my northern borders.
2.)I would gain the advantage of more citys and techknology.
Sooooo, at that time an English Elephant unit (I think their 2/2/2? I don't use them.) waltzed in and said we should have peace. I said "hmm, ok" and agreed. It moved away. Somthing went "ding" in my brain. They had gotten Trimies(2/1/3 boats) already. Hmmmm... Militarist? I think so.
Anyway, at about 40 turns, I had scraped together a small army of 8 archer units, and sent them north. I had also gotten Trimies and had taken the Japanese islands. While my 8 archers began the 7 turn movement north I started to expand outward and upward.SC equiv: While attacking my enemy I used the distraction to expand to my natural.
As my archers got into position, a Russian emmisary came up and said "we are tired of this ceasless war" and offered a cease fire. Funny, this is only our second engagment. I denied and killed the emmisary, moving to assault the Russian city of St.Petersburg. 1 turn later, with one of my Archers(2/2/1) dead from a Fortified Phalanx(1/3*/1) and one wounded, I fortified a archer, set St.Petersburg to make archers and continued to march.
*When you are fortified, you get a +1 to D
And, at thhat PRECISE moment, an ENTIRE war army of GREEN SUITed persians appeared. I counted 4 elephants, 3 Catapults(5/1/1)5 archers and 7 horsemen. *gulp*
TO BE CONTINUED.
