Welcome to yet
another Testosterone battlereport. This started out to be a report of
Corbalt vs. [z_zone]templar, but when I observed DrAwesome vs CHJ I
accidentally deleted the pictures from game 2 of Corbalt vs Templar (sorry
corb) So let us just call the first game a "warm-up report." Now just
sit back, relax, grab a cold one, and enjoy yourself (not to much).
While your waiting for the 4.5 megs of images to load I suggest you listen
to some great music.

For the first game, I am proud to bring to you the struggle of a
young Protoss user, against a very skilled Zerg user opponent (I have gooder
grammar than you). Yes, I am
talking about
Corbalt versus
[z_zone]Templar.
For those of you who don't know Corbalt, he is a very skilled Protoss
player, and usually does very well against Zerg players.
For those of you that don't know who
Templar
is, then you will surely find out soon. He is part of an elite Korean
clan, and often faces some of the best players in the world. He could
be compared to the players in the
game-q.com videos. The game
is made on the gamei version of The Lost Temple.
Corbalt
picks his toss and
Templar picks his
zerg.....and we are off!

Corbalt
gets his trusty toss at the 8 o'clock position while
Templar
gets his zergy zerg at the 2 o'clock position. Our Korean friend was
being extra cocky and let
Corbalt
and I know what he was feeling.

Yes folks, 18 sal sal.
Anyhoo, both players continue with their builds,
Corbalt
adds on a gateway while
Templar
continues to pump drones and once he gets 11 drones starts up on a spawning
pool. Shortly after this
Corbalt
adds an assimilator, obviously teching.
Templar
adds on an extractor when
Corbalt's
cyber core is about 1/4 done. When his pool finishes he morphs 6
lings, and also expands to his natural. Once
Templar's
overlord finally reaches
Corbalt's base it
notices only 1 zealot guarding
the ramp. Immediately all of
Templar's
lings are dispatched to the toss main.
Why
does Corbalt
only have 1 zealot guarding his ramp? Well, because he was teching
like a mad man, he already has a Citadel of Adun warping in.
Templar's
10 lings arrive, and
Corbalt retreats back
into the confines of his base....until another zealot comes out. He
turns his stalwart defenders and some probes against the menacing lings, but
great micro comes into play, and the zeals are taken down, but not before
only 4 lings are left.
Templar
retreats these, but is soon reinforced by ~20 more lings, and the game is
over.

Good
Games were exchanged, as both the players agree to a rematch. Templar
won this one too, with a ling/muta combo, and Corbalt did fair better in
that game than this one. Final
scores are.......

Moving on to the next game, I present a great battle between two great
battlereporters!
DrAwesome vs.
CrackheadJeb, gogogo.

The
game is made on Rivalry, both players go random.
Jeb
receives orange Terran in the upper right corner while
DrAwesome
gets teal Terran in the bottom right corner.
Both
players start out the same, getting 8 SCV's,then building a supply depot.
Jeb
built his to the right of his minerals, while
DrAwesome
constructed his at his choke. On SCV ~10 both players constructed a
barracks.
Now the
build orders start to diverge.
Jeb
starts on a refinery as soon as he can, obviously teching, but teching for
what? DrAwesome
adds another barracks followed up by a refinery of his own.
Jeb
continues to pump marines out of his 1 barracks, and gets machine shop
add-ons for both of his completed factories. So much for wraiths in
TvT eh? DrAwesome
keeps pumping marines out of both barracks, while simultaneously getting a
factory and an academy.

Knowing
that his opponent is only producing out of 1 barracks,
DrAwesome
leaves his base with 8 marines and heads up to see what
Jeb
is doing. Jeb's
scouting SCV sees this force coming, and he quickly gets his 5 marines up on
top of the ramp. Seconds before the 8 marines arrive
Jeb's
first tank appears.
DrAwesome's
marines charge valiantly up the ramp. Targeting each marine
individually DrAwesome's
marines rip into Jeb's
marines. It was a very close battle, but
Jeb's
tank was just to much. Both players lost all their marines, but
Jeb
was starting to pump out tanks, which are usually much better on ground than
marines.
On a
side note, I think
Jeb finally realized he was playing TvT. Hehe
.......anyhoo, both players quickly recover from the first skirmish.
Back at home
Jeb has constructed a Starport, with add-on, and has also
constructed an e-bay and is building an armory.

DrAwesome
hasn't been idle either, during the battle he kept on pumping troops at
home. He soon has a force of ~10 marines, 2 medics and a tank.
He starts his force up towards
Jeb's
base, but half-way there his scouting marine gets obliterated by 4 siege
tanks. DrAwesome
wisely retreats back to the confines of his base. The moment before he
left he started up on 2 Starports. He also gets an e-bay, and starts
putting up a few turrets in his base.

Both players
continue to build up their forces,
Jeb
starts producing a few goliaths and also a valkyrie, while keeping up on
tanks. DrAwesome
keeps pumping M&M (mmm...food) and wraiths out of his dual starports.

At
almost the exact same time, both players decide to expand.
DrAwesome
moves his troops to right outside his natural, while constructing a CC
inside his base.
Jeb, being more
aggressive, starts building turrets in the upper left hand starting spot.
DrAwesome's
scouting vulture sees a force of 2 valkyrie's, 1 tank, and a vulture and a
goliath heading towards the upper left. Immediately he starts his
troops on the long march to the top of the map. Roaming wraiths
confirm that Jeb
is trying to expand, and
DrAwesome will have none
of this. He charges his control group of marines, with a few medics,
and catches Jeb's
defenders off guard.
With
the help of stim,
DrAwesome's marine force
quickly eliminates Jeb's
few ground forces, and
DrAwesome's 4 wraiths
eliminate Jeb's
2 valkyries, but not before being badly damaged and losing 2 in number.

Jeb is forced to cancel the CC being built, and
he immediately begins construction of another CC
in his base, and utters a
comment:

DrAwesome's
CC finishes right as the battle concludes, he safely lands it at his natural
and transfers some SCV's there as well. He also moves the force that
stopped
Jeb's
expansion (7 marines, 4 medics, and 1 tank) just outside of the bridge to
the left of
Jeb's
natural. He also brings up 7 more marines and 1 medic just outside the
bridge below
Jeb's
natural.
DrAwesome
is going for a coordinated attack, but can he pull it off?
Jeb's
CC is now complete, so he unsieges 4 tanks off of his ridge. He takes
these 4 tanks and 5 goliaths down to the low ground, to better protect his
expansion.
DrAwesome's ever watchful
wraiths see this, and he decides the time is right to attack!
Hoping
to blitzkrieg Jeb's
forces off the field,
DrAwesome got a little
anxious, and sent in his bottom force (7 marines and a medic) in first, the
unsieged tanks and goliaths make quick work of this force until
DrAwesome
pulls them back. About the time he pulls them back his other force
arrives from the left. Another problem for
DrAwesome
was that his force arriving from the left are walking single file into 5
unsieged tanks. He soon realizes this and gets his men more organized.
When Jeb
sees this he simply pulls his tanks back into range of his other 2 tanks
that are sieged up on his cliff.
DrAwesome
tries to bring in his ~5 wraiths, but it is to late as all the infantry that
were distracting Jeb's
goliaths have already been killed. The wraiths quickly die to the
goliaths, and DrAwesome's
offensive is over.
Jeb only lost 2 tanks,
and that was from the splash damage of his own sieged tanks.

During
the whole ordeal
DrAwesome started up a CC
in the bottom left start.
Jeb
builds the covert-ops add-on to his recently completed science facility.
At least DrAwesome
was macro'ing during the fight. He now has 3 barracks, and 4
starports. Jeb
is still pumping tanks/gollies, and he quickly takes advantage of the last
battle. He
forties the top/middle expansion. Soon after he builds a CC near the
gas node, hoping to double his gas intake.
DrAwesome
knows he can't let Jeb
get to far ahead in the resource war, so he sends ~2 control groups of 1/1
marines to stop the top expansion.
DrAwesome's
troops finally reach their destination; they stim up and head into
Jeb's
expansion.
Jeb
has 5 goliaths and 2 unsieged tanks protecting the expansion.
Jeb
is also caught off guard, so he loses 2 goliaths before he is able to pull
them back. With the retreating of
Jeb's
troops, DrAwesome
targets the CC, and when he does that
Jeb
sends in his troops, desperately trying to stop the destruction of his newly
build CC.
DrAwesome
sees the troops coming, and targets the nearest goliath.......the only
problem is that Jeb
has d-matrixed this goliath.
DrAwesome
did not see this until it was to late, and the rest of the tanks and
goliaths are able to kill
DrAwesome's
infantry.

Both players have been fighting for a good while, and both of them are
mining from 3 bases. That is a lot of income coming in......and what
did each player spend all their money on?

Yup,
DrAwesome
was going for Battlecruisers and
Jeb
was going for Nukes. Could this game get any better?
Back to
the action, Jeb
builds another CC at the 12 o'clock expansion, to fully maximize mining time
(there is a pretty large gap between the minerals and the gas node). I
then noticed
one
of Jeb's
SCV's has found
DrAwesome's naked bottom
left expansion, I also notice a dropship heading that way.
Next I
hear the noise that makes every battlereporter's heart tingle with joy,
"Nuclear launch detected." Woohoo, my first nuke in all of my BR's, score!
Nothing can stop this ghost, I mean it is a naked expansion after all right.
DrAwesome
sees and dropship approaching his expansion, so he runs all his SCV's to the
right, hoping to minimize losses. The ghost pops out cloaked, and goes
to the top of the CC and paints the CC with the laser site for the nuke.
DrAwesome,
being very crafty, simply scans the ghost, and then.........KILLS IT WITH
HIS SCVS........GOD NOOOOO, I WANT A NUKE DAMMIT......anyhoo, we make fun of
Jeb
for it a little bit, and the game goes on.
DrAwesome
continues to build up his Battlecruiser fleet, he has 4 now, while still
pumping miscellaneous ground units. Then
Jeb
pauses the game, and everyone is wondering what he is doing, when he
explains himself.
DrAwesome expands again, this time to the bottom left natural.
DrAwesome's infantry are at 1/1, while
Jeb's mech units are at 1/1 as well.
Now
Jeb
has 2 nuclear sites as add-ons, so he has 2 more nukes waiting to be
launched. He cloaks 2 more ghosts, and sends one to
DrAwesome's
bottom right natural and one to the bottom left natural. He paints the
bottom right CC with the laser, and sends the other cloaked ghost to the
bottom left.
"Nuclear launch detected" echoes through everyone's speakers, and
DrAwesome
finds the dot with just seconds to spare. He gets a good portion of
his mining SCV's out of the way, but ~5 SCV's and a few marines feel the
blunt of the blast. A quick scan, followed by some marines quickly end
the ghosts life, but the payload was delivered.
Now we
direct our attention back to the bottom left, yes the same place that the
ghost got owned by the SCV's. Well, this time, the ghost was walking through the
mining SCV's when its mana ran out....so
DrAwesome
found the ghost and again owned it with the same SCV's. Those SCV's sure
earned their pay that day (what?).

You
will also notice that
DrAwesome
starts up a CC at the bottom/middle expansion. While it is
constructing
DrAwesome
begins to pour on the macro, building another 6 barracks just above the CC.
Jeb
also expands again, this time to the upper left starting spot. He
brings around 5 goliaths and a few tanks to guard his new base.
DrAwesome,
with all his bases in full swing, decides the time is right to attack
Jeb.
He brings his 6 0/0 Battlecruisers to just underneath
Jeb's
first natural (that is right beneath his main). These behemoths in the
sky are escorted by 2 Science Vessels, ~20 marines (with 1/2 on
upgrades),and 4 medics. The Battlecruiser's lead the charge, marines
stim and make their way to the bridge, hoping to cross it.
Jeb saw
this coming with a scouting marine, and he hastily set up defenses. He
sieges two tanks, with 2/3 upgrades, right on the other side of the bridge,
and brings ~3 valkeryie's, and a whole horde of goliaths. The tanks
pummel the infantry coming across the narrow bridge, as the Battlecruisers
are busy fending off the pesky goliaths.
Finally
the tanks are brought down, and
DrAwesome
charges even further into enemy territory. In a good move,
DrAwesome
d-matrixes his front 3 Battlecruisers, but also in a bad move he lets his
Cruisers attack some random depots, while his infantry are slaughtered by
SCV's and goliaths.
Jeb
got 2 ghosts close enough to get off 2 lockdowns, but still 4 BC's were
alive and functioning.
When
the 2 valks arrived, I thought they would be wasted immediately, but
Jeb had
excellent micro, and repaired both of them with as many SCV's as he could
(around 6).
DrAwesome did not see this until it was to late,
Jeb's
reinforcements of goliaths soon arrived. Also when
Jeb's
reinforcements showed up, another 7 or so of
DrAwesome's marines, with 2
medics, arrived. A quick d-matrix of a tank (and a SCV hehe), and a
good use of SCV's as blockers, quickly ended the infantry threat.
Both
players were hurt, but
DrAwesome
definitely came away with the advantage. He had halted one of
Jeb's
mining bases, brining him down to 2, and also hurt his troop count.
While
DrAwesome
had lost just as many troops, he had many more production facilities at his
disposal, so he built his army back up the fastest. Wow that was a lot
of text without a picture............

Jeb
repulsed one mighty attack of
DrAwesome's,
but can he do it again? Well, he is tested right after the last battle
ended. Due to the aforementioned production facilities,
DrAwesome
quickly has another huge of M&M, his infantry upgrades are also at 2/3 too.
He takes this force consisting of ~25 marines, a few medics, and 1 BC to the
same spot he just attacked. The force quickly tears through the few
goliaths left, and then demolishes the CC. During this time however,
the force has taken heavy fire from 3 tanks up on the ridge. Due to
forcing fire on the CC,
DrAwesome
has taken heavy casualties, and losses his last few marines charging up the
ramp. 3 valks were able to eliminate the BC with the help of a few
turrets.
What
else was Jeb
doing during all this? Well, he was nuking again silly. Yes,
"Mr. I Can't Multitask"
Jeb nuked the bottom left
natural and bottom left start at the same time, all the mean while defending
his main from a ferocious attack. I know what your saying, "finally
Jeb
got to nuke that naked bottom left expansion, after being thwarted by SCV's
in both of his previous times, he deserves it." Well
DrAwesome's
SCV's again had a different thought, "fuck you." Yes, the cloaked
ghost was again denied the chance by a quick scan and those vicious plasma
cutters(5 damage...bwuahaha).

Well,
nothing for
DrAwesome
has changed, so he is able to build up another grand
army
of men very, very quickly. Now you all know
DrAwesome,
he is an honest guy, a kinky guy, a hard working guy, and also he is smart.
He realizes that charging infantry men up a ramp against siege tanks isn't
quite cutting it, so he takes a different approach.
He
decides to attack Jeb's
top middle expansion. So he takes all of his men, ranging from a very
large number of infantry (see minimap) to ~5 BC's.
Jeb
is caught totally off guard with this assualt, he only has a few goliaths
and infantry to stop this massive force.
Needless to
say, all the drugs it took for
DrAwesome
to stim his men would make a Columbian proud, and jealous.
DrAwesome
stimmed his men, and stormed the bridge. Obliterating any and
everything in his path.
This is
also when I noticed 3 of
Jeb's tanks had a very
high kill amount, the top one being at 17, with others at 13 and 14.
I also
got a rare shot of a Science Vessel with 0 hit points. Very cool.
If you
haven't noticed by now I made this picture on the left here a weeee bit to
long so I just have to type random jargon in so I do not get ahead of my
self, because then the pictures would not match the words now would they.
No they wouldn't.
While
he was taking out the 12 o'clock expansion
DrAwesome
sent many more marines to just outside the upper left start,
Jeb's
only mining base left.
DrAwesome
combines his two forces into one, and despite a valiant effort by
Jeb,
he is able to easily scale
Jeb's
cliff, despite the cloaked ghost wall (that was pretty cool).
Jeb
has nothing else besides SCV's and when these fail to kill BC's and 3/3
marines (go fig.) he resigns with a GG.

A
big thanks goes out to Corbalt and Templar for allowing me to watch their
games. Sorry about game 2 Corb :(. Thank you to DrAwesome and
CrackheadJeb for allowing me to watch their great game (hope I portrayed it
that way). Thanks goes out to my friend Scott and to POA for helping
me pick out the gosu music in the beginning.
This is
Testosterone......signing off.
