"Quotation from the Book of Eldritch; 'And the lord spake thusly; 'Thou shalt have a Carrier, and thou shalt destroy many. And in this holy baptism by fire, thou shalt freeth many souls of their unholy bondage to such evil cults as the Aurorans, the Polaris. Then, thou shalt be raised above all, to such heights as thou darest not dream.' And then EldritchEvil, cowering before the lord, spake thusly; 'Indeed, O Lord, I shalt do as thou asks. And many shalt fear my name.' -1:9 Book of Eldritch" -EldritchEvil

I was playing a lot of intense 1v1 games in x17, trying to improve my protoss game to the point where someone other than myself thinks it's good, and I was racking up an ok rec of 3-4 vs random x17'ers. Usually after I picked toss I ended up facing zerg, which does not make it any easier on me. After my 4th loss I decided to take a break and went to channel Clan -eon- where some friends of mine hang out. The nice thing with that channel is everyone is nice and well mannered, so it's a good place to play some easy games and relax.
As I entered the channel I saw a couple friends of mine, {SmF}Tsunami (not 1st~Tsunami, and boy is he getting tired of hearing about it) and NoRushing were playing a series of games. I have played both before and they are both about as good as I am, so when they started up their third game I was happy to watch. It was made on Lost Temple.
Both randomed, with Tsunami getting Zerg at 9, and NoRushing getting Terran at 6. Ahh the old ZvT. I personally think that the game is heavily imbalanced in terrans favour, but there is a lot of debate about that, with some people even claiming that zerg has the upperhand.
Since Tsunami used his overlord to scout 6 first, neither player needed to worry about playing anti-random. Tsunami did the extractor trick and made a hatch at his natural with his 10th drone, while NoRushing did an odd sort of pseudo-wallin at his choke with 2 barracks and a depot. I say odd because there was plenty of space between each building for even medium sized units to get through. He also off bunkered Tsunami's expansion hatch.
Tsunami had 6 lings made before NoRushing got any rines to his bunker, and Tsunami used some good micro to keep the rines from getting inside the bunker. After he lost 4 rines 1 at a time trying to get to the bunker, NoRushing kept the rest at home and Tsunami was able to keep his expansion without any losses. He put up 2 sunkens then got a lair. Meanwhile NoRushing rapidly climb the tech tree getting an academy, an engineering bay and a factory in rapid succession. He also started a second eng bay a few seconds after the first.
Tsunami sent his lings down to scout NoRushing while powering hard with another 2 hatcheries and drones galore. One hatch he put in his main, and the other by his choke. He also got a spire and a hydra den, presumably to keep NoRushing guessing even if he scanned him.
NoRushing got a scanner as soon as his acad was done, a starport and machine shop as soon as the factory was done, and infantry armour as first as his first eng bay was done. When his second completed he picked it up and scouted Tsunami with it, in order to save up mana for his comsat in case of a lurker rush. Thus he spotted both the hydra den and the spire.
As soon as Tsunami spotted the Eng Bay, he made two hydras to chase it away, while saving up larvae. NoRushing then left his base with 2 tanks, 3 medics, and about 15 marines, which he accompanied with an scv. He made a turret and a bunker at Tsunami's mineral only. Tsunami could see the preparations for a seige with an Ovie over his nat cliff, and he quickly put down 3 more sunkens, one out in front of the others, to delay NoRushing while he prepared his tech.
Once his offensive structures we built, NoRushing advanced with his tanks, firing on the first sunken. Tsunami sent all his lings, about 12, and they managed to kill one tank. NoRushing obviously didnt have range for his rines as the lings got all the way to the tank before being fired upon. However they were turned into red pudding less than a second after killing that tank.
Tsunami wasn't especially concerned about this, as he had 10 mutas heading towards NoRushing's empty main. Despite seeing the spire, he had only just started a turret when the mutas arrived. They ran amuck over the scv line killing many when 4 of NoRushing's marines arrived. Tsunami must have thought there would be more coming because he fled from them and went around searching for other targets in typical Mutaharass fashion. He targetted the starport for a while, putting it into the red before fleeing from the same 4 marines. Then they flew around to the choke and started hitting one of the rax. This time they did not flee and focused on killing it. Some more medics and marines from the front came home, surrounding the mutas, and they fled losing one of their number, leaving the rax with 30 hp. They returned to Tsunami's main after a good days work.
NoRushing started to return his rines to the front and started making more turrets by his probe line. He then expanded to his own natural. Incredibly the expanding scv walked right past the rax when it had 10 hp. The Rax exploded 10 seconds later. He started making a new one when Tsunami's mutas returned.
They ran away from the two turrets at the scv line, and fired once again upon the starport. A glance back at Tsunami's main revealed 5 lurkers in eggs, so I could understand why he wanted to attack the starport; to hopefully prevent the construction of any Science Vessels. However they once again fled from the same four rines before doing much more damage. Then the lurkers completed. Tsunami got his whole army ready at his natural. It consisted of about 12 mutas, 5 lurkers, and 12 lings. He was going to try to break out of the choke, which consisted of about 25 m&m, a tank, 4 rines in a bunker (with range upgrade now complete) a turret, and 2 scvs.
The result of this battle would undoubtably decide the game. If Tsunami lost everything, he would most likely lose his nat soon after that, while NoRushing would still have his. On the other hand, if he broke out, the game was his, even if he lost all of his troops, since he could quickly make lings and take out NoRushing's defenseless nat. The most important aspect of the fight would be lurker micro. If they got into position quickly, they would be able to decimate the M&Ms.
Without any fanfare or warning, Tsunami threw everything into the fight at once. The mutas targetted and destroyed the tank quickly while absorbing mass m&m fire. The lurkers stayed together and moved effieciently, burrowing just outside bunker range. Before any of them died, they all got underground while the Mutas attacked the turret. NoRushing scanner the area while simultaneously repairing the turret, desperate not to lose sight of the lurkers. One died just as they unleashed the first wave of spines. The turret instantly exploded and over a third of the troopes were lost. NoRushing pulled back his men as Tsunami targetted the Bunker with his mutas. Remarkably, he had only lost 3 so far, though all of the remaining mutas were hurt. The scv's were killed by muta splash while repairing the bunker. It exploded shortly after. The Lurkers unburrowed and then got closer to the rines. Another died as they burrowed and NoRushing quickly pulled his remaining troops back. But another 4 or so went down before they got out of range. As they fled the mutas focused fire on them. By now there were only 3 marines and 5 medics left, and at least 7 of the muta's lived. NoRushing bade us 'gg' and left.
But Wait-
I said Intense pvt in the title!
Well I decided to write up about that game because it is the first time I have seen zerg use both lurker and muta techs at once, and it worked very well, definately something I want to try sometime. It's also as an intro to this br. After that game I challenged NoRushing to a game, because though I had never beaten him, I now knew of 2 people (Tsunami and AngelicKiller) who I can beat that have beaten him. Besides, I never got to use my best race, toss, against him in any of our three games. NoRushing, being a good sport, accepted, and Tsunami watched.
I picked toss this time, to be sure I would get them. NoRushing went with his customary random. I warped in at 3 while he landed at 9. Good, balanced starts, Lost Temple gayness would not be the deciding factor of this game. Better for me, since terran is the best race to capitalise on it.
I didn't know what his race was so I did an anti random build I have been trying out lately, a double gate on 13, followed by a pylon on 14 and an assim on 15. By now I had scouted him, hot-keyed my scouting probe to '1', and started attacking his scv completing his wallin rax. As soon as he attacked my probe, I pressed 1 and clicked on my home minerals, then went to check on it. The first time his scv that attacked me started a depot, so I went back and kept after the rax scv. Then I went back to simcity. The second time, his scv chased me all the way home, so I killed it with 2 zealots at my choke. I started my cyber core while those 2 zealots were warping in.
As soon as it finished I started a goon and sent my 2 zealots to NoRushing's base. They waited at the bottom of his choke until my first goon arrived, then they all went up his ramp. He did the 1 depot, 1 rax wallin, so my forces got up onto his plateau.
Let me say that I think that this is a worse wallin than the standard 2 depot 1 rax wallin that keeps me from getting to the high ground. Since I was up here my goon was more effective.
All of my forces pounded on his barracks while I made 2 more goons, a citadel, and got goon range back at home. My second goon, which I had started shortly after the first with my second gate, then arrived, and my four troops got the rax into red before a tank with seige mode showed up and chased them off.
I left them in NoRushings mineral natural. Thats the nice thing with the 9 oclock base, a tank in seige mode can easily cover the whole natural, so I had to let him have it. My next 2 goons arrived but I had lost one in the confusion trying to flee, so I had 3 goons and 2 zealots, with my old troops all hurt. I made a templar archives and got zealot speed at this point, as my citadel had just finished. I also made another zealot and another goon and a nexus at my natural, and for good measure, a third and fourth gateway.
At this point of the game I start getting pressured by the terran, who is looking to break out of my containment with vultures. It's critically important that I keep him contained for at least a few more minutes because I need the time to get my natural up and running. Therefore I make the extra gates so that I have 0 cash buildup. If I let even 300 accumulate it could be the end. My nexus was just warping in when my DT's were completed.
Meanwhile, for some reason NoRushing had not elected to go heavy metal, instead going with some metal/infantry hybrid. He hit my containment forces with 4 vultures, a tank, and about 8 m&m when my DT's arrived. After I focused on his mines with my DTs (allowing you to kill the mine in one shot, which makes it do no damage) I started in on his troops. He lost all of his marines and a vult before pulling back. I tried to keep up the pressure with my DT's but he had a turret on the cliff. I lost a dt, then sent my other one into his nat, which was just getting underway. I killed a few scvs and his refinery while he made a turret, which was in turn protected by the turret on his cliff. When he tried to start one closer to the middle of the nat, I attacked with my DT, so he was forced to wait for the other turret to finish, then start a third turret.
All the while I was collecting more resources than him, which I used to keep all 4 gateways pumping a mixture of goons and zealots as well as 2 more DTs, and I also started 2 stargates. I also put down a forge and made 2 cannons in my nat to protect against Vulture raids. Furthermore, since I had seen him use troops, I did something I almost never do vs terran, and got psi storm. After the stargates were done I warped in a beacon.
He finally finished his third turret and killed my DT, then, with the help of a newly minted SV, went for my containment forces, consisting of 7 zealots and 5 goons, range and speed upgraded, and with +1 almost done.
His own forces consisted of 4 supporting tanks on his main cliff, 3 tanks on the ground, and 7 or so vultures. He kept creeping them nearer and nearer laying mines, and I chased them back with goons. Finally he seiged up his tanks below his main cliff and sent in the vults. I didn't know about the cliff tanks, so I sent everything in. The cliff tanks helped a great deal and when I pulled back it was with a single goon. I had gotten his three tanks though and I didnt think that many of his vults had mines left, so it was still all good for me. I sent in reinforcments from my main, consisting of 2 high templar, a DT, 3 zealots, and 4 dragoons. These were troops completed during the battle that I had not had time to send in while I was microing.
NoRushing decided to try to press his advantage and moved out. He also had reinforcements during the battle, consisting of some gols, tanks, and vults. I guessed he gave up the idea of using troops. I pulled back my goon and our reinforcements met in the middle. After a couple nice storms I got the better of him and re-established my containment.
I then started 2 carriers at my gates and que'ed up more troops after putting down a 5th and 6th gateway. I also sent out a probe to take the 12 oclock main and I sent a zealot to patrol the 6 oclock main and natural. Right when my army arrived at his min only 4 vulture's appeared in my main. Luckily for me 2 zealots and 2 goons warped in just then. He used some nice mine micro and managed to beat my forces, but I had been saving a dt by my probe line for just such an eventuality. I had forgotten about him, but when the last surviving vult came to attack my probes he stepped up and swiped it down.
He pressured my containment once again with a mix of Vults, Tanks, and Gols. My 5 templar had a lot of mana and I started trying my best to use it up, getting off some good storms, when NoRushing decided he had a faster way to get rid of it, and detonated an EMP over 4 of them. The last temp got off 2 more storms before dying to vults. I sent in reinforcements as my 2-0 troops were overpowered by his 2-1 forces.
Once again my reinforcements saved the day, meeting him in the middle and finishing his push off. Just then, 2 dropships unloaded 16 m&m into my nat out of range of my 2 cannons. Guess he was still using infantry after all. I was torn, I didnt want to weaken my containment too much, but I had only 3 goons at home. I decided to send them in, as well as 2 temps and 3 speedy zeals from my containment. Meanwhile I sent all my nat probes to my newly completed 12 oclock main nexus. By clicking on the minerals, I kicked in their mining AI, causing them to pass over my returning warriors without getting the way. Thanks to AQD3 for that little tidbit. Unfortunately I did not arrive in time to save my nexus, however after a couple of storms I cleared away the m&ms. I sent a probe from my main to remake a nexus here. Then my 2 carriers completed and I dispatched them to the cliff over NoRushing's cliff.
I was starting to get a little cocky at this point, I thought that I must have a pretty good resource advantage over him, and this influenced some of my later decisions. For example, I did not bother to try to defend my natural more heavily.
My Carriers spotted him sending a cc to the island, but I decided to let it go for 3 reasons. One, I wanted to halt his resourse intake now, which meant hitting the natural. Two, I wanted to make sure that my carriers were doing maximum damage before he realised I had them. If I hit the island first he would have warning. Three, I wanted him to spend money on scvs at the island before I hit it, thus increasing the damage done.
Using the high ground as cover, my 2 carriers unleashed their interceptors over NoRushings natural, taking down a turret, a few scvs, and his refinery. He sent in a few gols, but they are next to useless when you use your carriers properly. Then he sent in a better counter, cloaked wraiths. I ran my carriers to 12, where I had 2 cannons, as fast as I could, while starting a robo bay. He killed one just as my next two popped out.
I had a choice to make: I could sacrifice air superiority confident in the knowledge that if I did his wraiths would become useless, or I could make some corsairs and try to take back the skies. I decided to que up some sairs. The gayness carriers are capable of was too enticing to pass up. Besides I still wanted to take out his island. While I was preparing to return my carriers to active duty, he hit my wallin again.
Because he had taken out my nat and it was still not even running at full capacity yet, and I had spent a lot of money on 4 carriers, I did not have a big enough land army. NoRushing felt the force and attacked my containment again. A large metal army broke through once again, even after I casted 8 storms on it. For some reason he didn't emp me, but instead bulled right on ahead. My forces were quickly overwhelmed. NoRushing split up his forces, sending about 8 goliaths to 12 while sending about 6 tanks to my nat. They didnt even seige up to kill my two cannons and then started laying into my probes. I selected them and clicked on the minerals in my main allowing about 3 out of 18 to escape. Then 6 speedy zeals completed just as my 2 new carriers had about 5 inters each. I sent this force down to deal with the tanks, killing them while losing 3 zealots.
Meanwhile at 12 his goliaths were dualing with a carrier and 2 cannons. They were obviously getting the best of me but gols suck against cannons so it wasnt a total massacre. I also managed to save my carrier. He was obviously busy somewhere else because after his gols chased away my carrier and killed my cannons, they started doing random stupid things, as anyone with any experience with Gol AI can visualise. A couple of them attacked the 3 pylons there, a couple more hit the nexus, and the last one chased around some probes. I harassed them with my Carrier, managing to separate them and make them confused and basically killing one and making the rest do nothing. Then forces from my main consisting of 5 speedy zeals and 4 goons arrived and killed them off.
By now I had 2 observers and 2 corsairs, so I got them together with my 3 carriers and moved out. I decided that the island would be ripe for attack right then, so I went to it first. Sure enough, when I arrived he had about 5 scvs mining (guess he wasnt paying too much attention to it). My Carriers dealt with that real fast. He decided not to send in the wraiths at this time.
I moved down my carriers to his nat and started attacking it again. His gols once again proved totally worthless, and this time his wraiths didn't have much luck either. After he lost 1 or two while they were cloaked he pulled them back and scanned. He spotted my first observer and attacked it with wraiths and gols. It exploded with a humerous beep rather quickly. However I am well aware of this little terran trick and I kept my other observer. His wraiths got about 2 free shots before my second observer showed up and they crumpled as we all know wraiths do.
Then NoRushing did the best thing he could do in that situation and hit my containing army once again. Once again he got through, and this time I didn't even get in any storms since I was microing my carriers. Rather than split up his forces to do superficial damage to two of my bases, he kept them united in the hope of wiping one base out. He also kept a bunch of goliaths down in his nat to keep my carriers from doing any more damage than stopping him from getting the northernmost mins and gas. I could hve killed cc easily with some micro, but I was busy from then on microing to kill off his invading army. So I let the carriers sit just above his nat cliff.
So I marshalled some forces from my main to try to deal with his attack. After killing my containment, about 5 tanks and 5 gols were left. Back at my base I had a new temp and a full temp, as well as 3 zealots and 3 goons. My speedy zeals intercepted his forces as they were climbing 12's ramps. Unfortunately they did little damage before dying. Then his forces got up the ramp and his tanks seiged up by my base at 12. I decided I wouldn't be able to take them on, and fled my probes by clicking on the minerals at 12's natural. I also separated a few from this group and had them go around the bottom of the high ground. They got to 12's nat, the rest were massacred. At 12's nat I started another base. I also sent my goons and temps to NoRushing's min only, where he was starting a base. I stormed and killed a bunch of scvs and some goliaths and my goons succeedded in chasing off the cc. Then I send 12 new speedy zeals from my main to deal with the tanks and gols at 12. I killed them off while keeping 2 zealots.
At this time our upgrades were 3-2 for him to 1-0-3 for me. I also had +2 air attacks while he had no air upgrades.
Just then he dropped another 8 troops on my nat. I sent those probes to my min only to start a new base there and let him kill off the nat. When he sent his forces forward, they succumbed to fire from my two cannons and a goon.
As far as I knew I had succeeded in repelling all of the incursions at my bases, so it was time to get back to harassing him. By now I figured he must be out of money so I was feeling quite good. My zealot at 6 had reported no enemy bases there so I was sure that I had a big resource advantage. Just when I started to take out the rest of his nat I realised that in all the confusion he had somehow killed all my carriers! Doh!
Well happily another 2 warped in just then. I also realised that I forgot to make a nexus at my min only. Oh well, since I had my nat back, I decided to go and make a newus down there again instead. I also put a cannon at the other side of my nexus to prevent its loss from another group of infantry. However this cost me a minute in mining time, which is unfortunate. By now my base at the 12 natural was running well, but it was my only resource intake.
I sent my 2 carriers along with 2 new corsairs and a new observer to harass my opponent again. In the recent course of events he managed to take him min only though, and he was holding it with a strong array of tanks. I decided to settle for bothering it with Carriers. As I was using the nat cliff to kill the min only expansion I sent a sair to check the island, which confirmed it was still empty. I forced him to run his scv's away from the minerals. Then I took my carriers and went to his nat to cause some more havoc. I also attacked his min only with my forces, consisting of a large number of zealots and goons. I quickly became clear that I wouldn't be able to take out his min only though, so I pulled back before I lost too many troops. My carriers at his nat succeeded in killing his geyser once again but were forced by goliaths to remain over the cliffs.
At this point I was wondering why he wasnt giving up. He was a smart guy that knew when he was licked, so why was he dragging this out? As I pondered this question he attacked my army once again, killing most of it, but I managed to maintain containment. Then I sent a probe to retake the 12 main. I had my answer. He had the 12 main. Doh! Well I sent up all my speedy zeals, about 12, and my carriers. He had no defenses other than a couple of turrets so I was able to kill it off rather quickly. While I was up there, he hit my nat with his whole army, consisting of about 6 gols and 6 tanks. Before getting to my nat, they finished off my other army of about 5 goons. They killed off my nat for the third time, but when my speedy zeals and carriers arrived, I defeated this army. At that point 2 more carriers and 6 more goons popped out. I built inters and headed towards his min only.
When I got there vults were laying fresh mines and a bunker was under construction. I attacked right on in and his 5 or so tanks and 7 or so vults were rapidly overrun. He bade me gg as I took out his min only and nat and my carriers killed the tanks on his cliff that had kept me from attacking for so long.
Phew that was quite a game. It was 35 minutes long, and stats of note are that He killed more units than me, and that I had only mined 45000 resources to his 37000, so I wasn't that far ahead of him in economy.
Not to brag, but I am almost undefeated pvt with that strat, and the only games I have lost was once I let 2000 minerals accumulate after I had made DT's, which obviously is my fault and not the strats, and the other time was when I was at 12 and my terran opponent at 3. He went bio instead of metal and did some nice dropping and nuking, and locked down my carriers and irradiated my templars, not to mention using gay temple imbalance to cliff seige my entrance. In one other game I let myself get off bunkered which obviously doesnt help loads. Other than that I seem to be unbeatable pvt even in x17, so if any terrans out there think they can counter it, please play me and lets see if you can, because the idea of me being skilled is scaring me. When ppl say that pvt isn't imbalanced I laugh in their face because as I say I do so well against terran, but you know I don't think I've ever won against zerg in x17.
