Yo! This is MatrisKing bringing you my first battle report. I've worked long and hard on it
so I hope you all enjoy it ^^ I was hanging out in Ladder
Challenges and I saw a couple of guys that decided to 1v1. It sounded like a good game and
I asked them if I could observe. They said it was
fine and all was good. I've decided that I wanna write this as a story since the game that
I observed could easily have been a story. And now, on to the report!
I woke up in my cot and looked at the clock... I woke up early again. I'd been waking up
early for the last 60 days or so. Ever since the last battle, my crew and I have had way too
much energy. Every day, we waited on my battlecruiser, the Starling Explorer, in
eager anticipation that we would be sent to battle. But it didnt look like that was going
to happen anytime soon. The zerg had been surprisingly tranquil for weeks. I would have
liked to think that they had given up and end the perpetual waiting that we faced, but I knew
better. I figured that they were planning something, building up their forces somewhere
and waiting to make an attack that would really count. I got in uniform and grabbed some
coffee, dreading what figured to be another long, restless day. I checked my ComDisplay to see if
there was any big news concerning the war, but there was none, as usual. I was about to
head to the bridge to see if anyone else was up as early as I was when the ComDisplay came to
life. I turned around so fast I spilled the coffee all over my uniform. It hurt like hell,
but I ran over to my chair and divided my attention between the screen and wiping off my
uniform despite the fact that my skin was being scalded by the sorry excuse for coffee that
is served on my ship.
I smiled to myself. This was probably going to be exactly what my crew and I were waiting
for. Of course, Mengsk couldnt spare the few seconds to explain to me what was up. Oh no,
he was always official and by the book. I figured I would get a page or two to read, but
page after page was ejected from the printer. "Geez, is he sending each member of my crew
a release form or what?" I thought to myself. Finally, the pages stopped coming. I picked
up the packet and began to read...
Code Red Battle Report
Top Secret
Begin Transmission:
Greetings Commander Awesome,
I am aware that you and your crew have been thristing for action, and I have news that will
allow you to drink your fill. 22.3 hours ago, the Lost Temple was attacked by the zerg.
As you may know, the Temple is rumored to be a source of unimaginable power. Reports
indicate that the zerg forces, led by cerebrate Dim^Mak landed
to the south of the temple, opposite of the protoss forces, led by executor
Shimmy6969. In case you aren't familiar with the area
surrounding the Lost Temple, I have transmitted you a map that should help, it also shows
where each force was before the battle, and the location of the Temple itself. |
Wow, this was beginning to sound interesting. I always imagined leading my ship into
a great battle, but to the Lost Temple itself? I had heard rumors that, should the
protoss fall to the zerg, they would fall back to a legendary source of incredible power
that was located in a temple... a temple which only a select few protoss knew the location
of. Apparantly, the zerg had heard similar rumors and becan to search Aiur for it. I
pulled up the map that Mensk sent me and then continued to read the report.
As I'm sure you have figured out by now,
the battle was fought on the Lost Temple between two players, Dim^Mak and
Shimmy6969 who were hanging out in Ladder Challenges and decided
to 1v1. This battle was of the vanilla variety and Dim^Mak, who
has no preference to race but picked random and got zerg,
started out at 6:00 while Shimmy6969,who prefers zerg, picked
random, and got protoss, started out at 12:00. |
Now I know that you may think this is just another job, another simple step in the big war against
against the zerg, but I have heard of your contributions to some of the more important
victories in this war and am picking you to take this job not only because you are one of
the best, but because this one is of utmost importance. If the zerg manage to gain control
of the Lost Temple, and can unlock its secrets, there's no telling where the power of the
zerg will stop. The previous battle was an important one.
Shimmy6969 and Dim^Mak discovered
each other at the same time through an odd coincidence: they both sent a worker out to scout
the area at the same time. Shimmy6969 had seen the zerg land some drones in
the distance and wanted to investigate.

Upon further investigation, Shimmy6969's worker found a
hatchery growing in Dim^Mak's natural expansion area, it then
went to his
opponents main base, and noticed a spawning pool was the only structure apart from the
hatchery in Dim^Mak's base. Once the probe had left, a
hydralisk den was constructed. Dim^Mak's
drone searched the 3:00 area and finally arrived arrived at the protoss camp just in time to
notice a gateway that had just warped in. The drone quickly
left the scene, and Shimmy6969's proceeded to warp in a nexus
at his natural expansion right after the drone left.

Dim^Mak began to send an overlord to the protoss base and,
after producing about 10 zerglings, proceeded to mutate an extractor. He sent the zerglings
to wait right to the south of Shimmy6969's ramp so that they could
intercept any of his outgoing units. Meanwhile, the hatchery at Dim^Mak's
natural finished mutating and he soon built another hatchery and a creep colony in a manner
such that the creep colony, which would soon mutate into a sunken colony, would be protected
by the hatcheries.
Meanwhile, at Shimmy6969's base, zealot production began. When
the nexus was nearly warped in at the expansion, a second gateway was ordered to be placed right next to the
first one, as well as a second pylon. The zealots that were being produced were sent to the
ramp in anticipation of an early zergling attack. It was at this point that the zerg overlord
finally arrived and revealed the zealots and the expansion to Dim^Mak.
 After realizing that there was nothing protecting the protoss expansion,
Dim^Mak sent his 10 zerglings that were waiting outside of the
ramp to attack the probes in the expansion. The first casualty was a noble probe that got
clawed down by the pack of zerglings. Shimmy6969 sent the 5
zealots that were guarding the ramp to take the lings out; it was an easy job for the zealots.
But Dim^Mak saw that the ramp was wide open, and sent a few more
zerglings into the protoss main. The critters got a few more probes before the zealots
arrived to deal swift justice to them. And so the teching began. At this point Dim^Mak
had two fully functional extractors and a well established expansion, so he ordered his
hatcheries to mass produce hydralisks. During this time, Shimmy6969
had warped in a cybernetics core, an assimilator in his main, and
began to get a forge near the back of his main. Plus, he built a pylon at the bottom of his ramp.
Once the forge was complete, he built another forge near the bottom of his ramp and placed
a few cannons in the top of his ramp, the bottom of his ramp, and the back of his base near
the worker line. After the cannons began to warp in, a Citadel of Adun was ordered up,
as well as an assimilator at the expansion. It was obvious that
Shimmy6969 was going to get the weapon that any smart cerebrate
fears most: Templar armed with psionic storm. Obviously, a Templar Archive was created
immediately after the Citadel of Adun was finished warping in. Zealots were constantly
in production from Shimmy6969's gateways while all of this
teching took place. The only technological advancement for the zerg was the mutation
of a lair in the main base. The first batch of hydraslisks began to pop out of their eggs
armed with the speed upgrade and would shortly have a range upgrade as well. Before any
real fighting took place, Shimmy6969 produced a third gateway
next to the other two, and Dim^Mak started a second expansion
at a mineral-only location to the north of his main.
At last, both sides were finished teching and economizing and began to mobilize. Dim^Mak
sent groups of hydralisks to the south of Shimmy6969's base in
a location where they could not be noticed by outgoing zealots. 
Shimmy6969
produced his first high templar and continued to pump zealots from his gateways. After he
had about 12 zealots, Shimmy6969 sent them to attack the
intrusive zerg. But Dim^Mak knew that the zealots were coming in
advance thanks to a pair of hydralisks that were loitering near the entrance to the protoss
base. The cerebrate immediately sent his 2 groups of hydralisks that were waiting near the
enemies base to attack the main. The ramp was defended by a few cannons, a pair of zealots,
and a couple of high templar. These meager defenses might have been able to hold the
hydralisks off if the high templar knew how to cast psionic storm. The zealots could have
held the hydralisks off of the ramp long enough to allow the templar ot cast a psionic storm
on the group of hydralisks, which was already weakened by the cannon fire. But,
unfortunately, the ramp fell too the zerg rather quickly.
After breaking through the ramp defenses, the hydralisks quickly ran into the base where
they would be safe from cannon fire. Shimmy6969 sent his probes
to attack the hydras, and his zealots that had just reached Dim^Mak's.
base back to defeat the hydralisks. Fortunately for Shimmy6969, many hydraslisks
were already weakened and the mass of probes managed to kill a couple. Three zealots popped
out of his gateways and managed to delay the hydras even further. By this time, the 12
bloodthirsty zealots that were supposed to be tearing Dim^Mak's
expansion apart were running up the ramp to liberate the base and allow the remaining probes
to get back to work. The battleweary hydralisks were no match for the furious zealots and
were ripped to shreds.
A slight panic began to grip the executor's throat. The zerg were producing hydralisks at
a dangerously high rate, they also controlled the area surrounding the Lost Temple, and
his economy was crippled from the loss of probes. He quickly ordered for the cannons that
were destroyed to be replaced. He ordered to have two more pylons and gateways warped
in near the west end of his main. He then got more probes and continued to harvest minerals
while pumping out zealots and templar. Suddenly, the zerg struck again! More hydralisks
charged straight for the cannons at the bottom of the ramp. They stayed as far to the east as
possible, thus avoiding the risk of being caught in the eye of a psionic storm. They pylons,
cannons, and forge were quickly reduced to piles of rubble, the hydralisk's campaign was
carried to Shimmy6969's expansion. After destroying the nexus,
the hydralisks began to retreat, their mission was accomplished. But, the vengeful protoss
would not let them get away that easy. Waves of psionic storm and zealots with leg
enhancements made the hydralisks' assault their last.
But what's this? Shimmy6969 is no fool. The second he saw that
his economy was going to be crippled further, he sent a probe to make another expansion at
the 3:00 position. (this probe is circled on the map above) At this point,
Dim^Mak realized that the battle was not his yet. So he
put his hydralisks in groups of about 9 and sent them to spread out and secure the temple. He also put an
overlord above the entrance to Shimmy6969's base.
This strategy was served many purposes:
-The Overlord would warn the groups iff any zealots and/or templar should decide to attack.
-If units should exit the protoss basee unnoticed, the odds are that they would run into
one of the groups.
-It would be easy to set up a pincer aattack; if one group was under attack, then the other
groups could maneuver themselves around the attack force and attack the protoss units from
the sides or the back.
-It would be impossible for a templar to cast a psionic storm over the entire army at once.
-The Temple would be secure and there would be plenty of units surrounding the area to
protect it should the need arise.
By this time, Shimmy6969's 3:00 expansion was online and he
started to re-establish his natural expansion. At about the same time,
Dim^Mak created a hatchery at both the 8:00 and the 9:00 spots.

Apparantly, Dim^Mak wanted to control the ENTIRE map. It was
then when he found the protoss expansion in the 3:00 position. Read carefully, now, for the
fight that is coming up is the most decicive one in the battle over the Lost Temple.
In response to this, Shimmy6969 sent some of his army of zealots
and templars to fight off the hydralisks and re-gain the land to the East. He sent another
massive chunk of units at Dim^Mak's mineral-only expansion.
This is where the zerg's superior position comes into play...
Shimmy6969 had to fight a 3 pronged battle, plus he was out-upgraded.
By this time, the hydralisks had 2 attack and 2 armor upgrades while the zealots only had 1
attack upgrade and 2 armor upgrades. The smaller group
that was sent to the east was easily dispatched by the hydralisks. The main force, which was
protecting the Temple as they battled southward to the zerg base, was cut off by hydralisks
from the south.  The groups of hydras that were lingering to the west (refer to the
previous diagram) were sent into battle as well as the ones from the east that had just
destroyed the expansion. The protoss managed to defeat most of the initial forces to the
west, but the forces to the east as well as the expansion from the south caught the army in a
deadly pincer. The zealots were forced from their position around the temple and eventually
were crushed between the two armies.
At this point, Shimmy6969 slipped into despair. He was
outnumbered, outresourced, and had lost control of the temple. With his remaining funds,
he continued to produce zealots and high templar. But by this time, the zerg hydralisks
had 3 upgrades on attack an ddefense, a total of 7 expansions plus their main, and a greater
spire. It was only a matter of time before he crumbled before Dim^Mak.
The first attack was in the form of guardians perched to the right of
Shimmy6969's natural above a cliff. These guardians fell to
a series of psionic storms; they were too slow moving and were devestated. The second
attempt to take Shimmy6969's main consisted of an enormous
wave of hydralisks. After many psi storms and dead zealots, the protoss base remained
standing. But IMMEDIATELY after the wave, a third and final attempt was made. At this point,
hydralisks were produced non-stop from the multiple hatcheries and were funded by the
multiple zerg expansions. An even
larger wave of hydralisks was produced and sent to conquer the protoss base for good. And
this time, there wasn't enough energy in the
templar or shields on the zealots to save the protoss.
As I'm sure you have already guessed, your mission is to go to Aiur and liberate the lost
temple. Now I know that the zerg are already well established and will stop at nothing to
protect their prize, so I have contacted the protoss and they have agreed to come to your
aid in order to free their holy relic. Best of Luck to you, Commander Awesome.

I smiled again, nearly disbelieving my luck. I quickly went to the bridge,
unconcerned with my coffee stains. I reached my destination, and saw that most of my crew
was already up.
"You're late, sir," said Deon the Peon, "is there a problem?"
"No problem," I replied, "Now set the ships bearings for Aiur!" The crew let out a cheer
and we were soon on our way.
