Just so u know frost, I intentionally kept the screen shot count as low as possible, only using then when I felt that it was too hard to describe in text, thus minimizing the DL time for the few people like me on a 56K but only connects at 28 : hehe thanx again, that is all.

Not bad, but I don't think toss had much of a shot here. Interesting format though, and I thought the GIFs were pretty cool. Text was a bit big and I use IE 5. I'd go with a point smaller next time.

Hmm, I'll expound on that a bit cuz I see that some people wanted this report to be gold.
The reason I gave it a six was because toss got beatdown pretty bad. His economy got hurt early, he got outexpanded, he never attacked any of the zerg bases, and by looking at the minimaps, I would guess that he never got past 3 gate production, even in the late game.
The mediocrity of play was what disappointed me the most about this report. The writing and presentation were done well.

::sigh:: the reason I wrote this report as a story rather than a straight up report was because the game wasnt that great. Once I realized that the protoss were failing to uh.... be decent, I thought I wouldnt report unless they startd to do better. This didnt happen, but it was at this time that I realized that the way the battle was going, it really did look like a battle over the temple itself, especially the way that the huge 3 prong battle mostly took place right on or around the temple. It was then that I decided that, it might not make a good report, but it could make an excellent story, which is why I concentrated so much effort on the storyline. I did realize that, along the lines of gameplay, it was really sorry, but hey ive seen some bad battles that got at least 8's before so I figured that this as a story alone would have the potential to succeed. That is all.

U probably should put something like that on the "reporting guides" section about that or at least give a little mercy to a first timer.
Actually I wanna expound a little bit too...
The only gripes I have heard before dref was smaller text. Dref brought up the point that the game was poor too... which, as i explained, is true. But, how can you rate my skill as a reporter so much just based on the game that I did? Especially when I attempted to work around that in attempts to make something that would have a little more plot than the average report? 6.... rather low doncha think? Especially considering that its my first report, I spent TONS of time working on the images, improving the format, and writing a semi-decent story? I mean taking off 3 1/2 points just for a krappy story and 1/2 point for large text... wow. For some reason I thought people would look at the quality of the report itself, the images, the use of text, etc. I dunno, maybe I'm missing something, but I thought that my text and images and story were higher than that. I forgot to put a "lessons learned" section at the end but I think I already learned one: Time and effort are meaningless, making a story is meaningless, only if it is a GOOD GAME will you get a decent rating.
Drawesome.... great reporter... does a choose your own adventure. No actual game even took place, there were no players at all, he made up a story. He got all 10's. Dont get me wrong, I back this up wholeheartedly, he deserved 10's without question, but its just proving that you can have a high quality piece of writing without a report. Say there was no actual game, and I just made all of that up, a story about how the zerg overran the temple, and then continued to talk about how the terran arrived and stuff, then it would be a different case right? Since itsj ust a story? Mayhaps it would be a little more exciting then? J/w. That is all

I, as all raters, rate on one criteria alone. That criteria is "how much I enjoy the report". The post I pointed you to was simply a description of what I enjoy in a report. This may differ from rater to rater and Fox may come along and give you a 9.
I do enjoy "funny or unusual" reports as I mentioned in the post I linked you to. However, in this particular instance, the meat of the report (the battle between toss and zerg) was a beatdown and the story was not all that engrossing.
Part of your rating as a battlereporter should come from your ability to report materiel that is interesting to readers such as myself. I agree, it does take a long time to write text and edit screenshots and combine it all into a presentable HTML document. I've done it many times myself. I can appreciate your effort. However, keep in mind that I'm not rating you on your effort, I'm rating you on your materiel. In this case, I thought the materiel was enjoyable enough to merit you a six.

well I showed up a little late for the whole argument, but, I for one, completely disagree with this rating. When I read this I looked for more than a good game. As a semi-fiction report, I was enjoying the style and the story. A 6, way too low. As a fiction type report, there was a lot here to look at other than the physical game.
Matris, don't get down, just keep em coming. I, for one, will look forward to more.

MatrisKing, this is what you have to consider. Do people just read BRs to see a gosu SC player beatdown someone who just learned how to tech to tanks? (A little exaggeration but you know what I mean)
Senior, reports aren't made to make people "oooh" and "aaah" over graphics. They're there for humor. They're there to learn strategies. They're there for entertainment. Of course, graphics are a plus. They're great eyecandy for the reader...but don't forget what the viewer is actually reading your BR for ;]. DrAwesome's was more of a fiction than a BR. That's a completely different field of rating.
Anyway...GL in the future :]

Dref was right in the fact that the flash and flare was to cover a bad game. As I read the report I watch as purple swarmed the map with little to no resistence by orange. Your story text was way to big and it took away from the report itself. BRing a bad game is not a good idea because it is the main point of the BR. Reading a bad game is like watching a bad movie. Even if the special effects are good you still are mad because you had to sit through an pay for a bad movie. ex:Battlefield Earth, Water World, Jar Jar Binks
You have good potential and your bubbles and humor was very amusing. Keep writing but be sure to pick a better game to report.

I know this is about 20 comments away from the argument, but after reading it I have one thing to say to Matrisking: Ratings dont mean that much. Its impossible to get a rater to change the rating so after its given to you, please don't bitch about it.
Anyways, the report was decent and, going by Dref's rating system I'd give it a 7 since it entertained me a bit, but thats my opinion. Oh and report a better game next time.

Hey everyone,
Monty Pylon: I am pretty new to this site and havent had the time to read every report by ever person yet. I've heard enough "recount" jokes to last me a lifetime thanx so you should probably waste them on someone that thought it was funny in the first place.
Anathem: Yes you are probably right, but the way things were going from the start, i didnt think that my writing and pics and all were that bad. I mean nearly all of the early comments were suggesting an 8+ which fortified my confidence in the report only to have it shot down.
Mark4: I will take your suggestions into consideration, the problem here was that I was trying to force something that wasnt there so attempting to add a plot to a game just doesnt seem as good of an idea now as it did when i hit the keyboard from the start. The more I look at the game from an objective point of veiw, i realize that it is hard to divide attention between good fanficing and good reporting, especially when the game was one such as this, so thanx for the tips.
Everyone: yeah, the game did suck, i thought i'd be able to add a good story but apparantly I failed. Next time i do a report, it will be for a decent game. most of my pics werent added for glamour or anything (cept for the early gifs) i just put htem there to make the situations a little easier to understand. That is all.
