Introduction.

This battle report is in response to the guy who posted a battle report telling of how he backstabbed some comp stompers. I did not agree with what he did. It is my belief that comp stompers have just a right as anyone else to play this game. People who try to ruin their fun are extremely dishonorable, in my opinion.

Let me also say that this being my first and only battle report, it will be interesting to see what kind of rating I get on this, though that is not my main purpose.

The Stage is Set.

The game was a 4 vs. 1 computer on a user-created, 8 player, 128x128, poorly made and little-detailed map. This happened several months ago, and while the images of the game are vivid in my mind, the names and colors of the players are not. :(

Players, clockwise starting at the bottom left:

Bottom Left: Me, Terran.
Mid Left: Backstabber#1, Zerg.
Top left: Computer, Zerg.
Top Right: TheVictim, Zerg.
Mid Right: Backstabber#2, Terran.

Game On!

The game starts, and I put my master plan into motion. All SCVS! You, gentle reader at home, are thinking to yourself, "Oh how interesting, scvs vs puter has sooo been done." Let me backtrack and give you some background information. Why was I in this comp stomp game in the first place? Well, I'm sure you all have heard of loss accounts. My dukeofearl! account happens to be such an account. In short, I was planning to leave at the end of the game and collect my hard-earned loss. :) So to keep it interesting, why not go all SCV's? Sure does make it more interesting than your normal runofthemill comp stomp!

Especially if you don't actually SCV rush, but try to win the units and resources awards at the end, with your SCV mass production and gathering. :)

So my goal for this game was clear. All human players allied and set to their builds. Here is a general overview:

Me: 8.5 Depot, 13 Command Center, 13 Depot, 17 Command Center, Etc. :)))
Backstabber#1: 6 pool.
Computer: Something like a 9-10 pool.
TheVictim: 6 pool, Extractor on like 9-10.
Backstabber#2: 8 depot, 11 Barracks, 13 Barracks, etc. No gas.

The Action! or, The Backstabbing Begins

TheVictim, oblivious to what is about to befall him, sends his happy lings to the computer base, which has been discovered by Backstabber#1's overlord. The computer manages to get lings out in time to save his buildings, though his drones are toast.

But what's this? Looking up from starting my third CC, I see Backstabber#1's lings heading for TheVictim's base! Oh No! Typing in some frantic and misspelled insult to the backstabber, I retaliate. Switching off shared vision and ally for the backstabber, I beeline for his base. Time is of the essence if I'm to save the poor Victim, who has done nothing but actually do the most at taking out the computer! Now, you ask, why not go to TheVictim's base to kill the unfriendly lings there? Answer: No time! The lings, their number down to four now, continue to pound into Victim's hatchery. My SCV's have arrived at Backstabber's base and are taking it down. Hehe, 20 SCV's are a powerful thing. :) Lings spawn and begin to beat on the pressuresuits of my scv's, but I ignore them. By now the 4 lings remaining at Victim's slowly receding creep have got the extractor down into the red. WIll I be too late? No! The words flash across the screen:

"Backstabber#1 has been eliminated."

Victory! But did I save TheVictim? A flip of the minimap sends me to his base. An Extractor, heavily bleeding, with 4 silent lings beside it. The Extractor's health? Sixteen.

I can't remember what exactly he said, but rest assured, he was very thankful. :)

The End... or Is It?

Yay. I hate backstabbers. Glad to see one bite the dust. Time to finish off the computer, leave, and get that loss I so truly deserve. My 20 SCV's, now about 12 or so, head on over to the computer's base. In a few seconds that too is receding creep. "Player1 has been eliminated." Welp, job well done. But what's this? Part of the minimap has gone dark. My forces are under attack? My base is under attack?

You guessed it. Somehow feeling some kind of kinship with Backstabber#1, Backstabber#2 has reared his ugly head. Seeing my main force as SCV's, he must think I'm an easy target. Annoyed and kind of worried now, I send my 12 SCV's back to my base and pull an additional 20 off the line. They face 12 to 16 marines, a few firebats, and 3-4 medics. This could be trouble. I let his force hit on a depot and CC while I wait for all my loyal nosepickers ;) to get into position. Fortunately I time it well and my 60hp, 5 attack, melee marines charge into battle. Many SCV's die closing the distance, but they do very well. Reinforcements from my now 5 CC's whittle the attack force down to nothing after a minute of fighting.

Keep in mind that this is only 7 minutes or so into the game. Backstabber#2 is a mediocre player at best, since when I charge into his base with 10 scv's, he has no tanks and his building placement is not the best. Oh well, I guess you can be mean or smart, but not both. J/k, hehe. His marines and SCV's fight but lose. Nonplused, he lifts his buildings to float away.

The End (Really!)

Darnit. Now I have to make marines. A barracks goes into production, to shoot down his buildings. About this time I announce my intention to leave the game and have to spend a while explaining it to TheVictim, soon-to-be benefactor of the narrowest escape he has seen or ever will see. :) On the plus side for him, his Extractor is now in the 200's!

At the sight of a marine, Backstabber#2 leaves. TheVictim, who has all this time been watching and saying little except thankyou and dontleavetillyoufinishthem, hehe, breathes a sigh of relief. I bid him a Good Game, and leave feeling more pumped than I have ever felt about Starcraft.

Thoughts

As I said at the beginning, I posted this in response to the Backstabbing Confessions post a few reports down. I hope that many of you can see through this report that there truly are people out to have a good time in comp stomp games. I, for one, was out to play resource king and nothing more. TheVictim was just out for a normal game. Perhaps he was also a 28 year old, stable, Starcraft player just like the backstabber in the previous report was. Does someone like this deserve to have his fun ruined? I don't think so. It was in my power to stop the people who sought to hurt this guy's good game. So I did it.

Well, if I thought I couldn't change anyone's mind, I wouldn't have posted this. Hopefully someone out there's mind will be changed.

For those of you who might argue that I am no worse than the people I beat in this game, I think the difference is obvious. The difference is the nature of the turning on the other player. For a backstabber, the intent is malicious. For me, the intent was as a protector.

Oh well. I'm sure hardly anyone finished this, since all my rambling must be boring as hell. I do hope you enjoyed the story. It was a fun game to play.
