As you know, I don't play on b.net much these days, so I don't have many opportunities to tell you the wild goings on in the darker recesses of my little corner of the b.net asylum. And I pretty much have given up on b.net, because 99% of all games are some variation of hunters. Yawn.
So, I played some free for all and some use map settings games. They were fun. But I lost all of them, even though I put up a good fight. Well, I can't just walk away with a loss. I have to finish the day with a win. So, I joined a 4v4 bgh game. We won. Okay. That was nice. Hmmm. I'm a little bored. Just one more. Only bgh games. What the heck. I'll try this 4v4 bgh game.
I started as yellow protoss, center right. My 3 partners were blue zerg, upper left, white protoss, upper right, orange protoss, lower left. The bad guys were brown terran, top, purple zerg, lower right, red terran, bottom, teal protoss, center left.
Since my right flank was covered by white protoss, I rushed to zealots with the intent of rushing lower right. I know that zealots eat zergs and terrans early in the game, so my strategy was to attack fast. If lower right had been protoss, I would have backed off and gone total defense.
I ripped off a gateway, kicked a zealot out the door and said, "Go get 'em, tiger." I kept this up while I added another gateway, more zealots, more attack. I was putting a whooping on purple zerg. Well, what do you think happened then? Yep. You got it. His buds showed up and slapped me all the way back to my base. My partners had to bail me out. Ouch. With over 185 wins, I hate looking like a newbie. Now that I think about it, it was a little strange that all blue zerg offered was some zerglings. Throw aways, I figured. No big deal.
I got dragoons, and then I tried again. This time, teal protoss had expanded to the center of the map, and I had to fight it out with him before I could take out purple zerg's local expansion. All well and good, but I was constantly out numbered, and my attacks would falter. Even with help from white protoss, we would grind to a halt after fierce battles involving 6 different players. Where was blue zerg in all of this? Why wouldn't he help?
To make matters worse, orange protoss in the lower left corner up and quits with no notice. He wasn't losing. He hadn't been attacked. Who knows. Now we're down one player, and I'm weakened from so many failed attempts to conquer purple zerg. Fudge.
I'm no quitter. If the end must come, then I'm going to get in my licks before I go. I dropped another gateway and started cranking out goons and zeals.
Me, "Come get some."
The other guys "Okay, ***wipe. We're coming for you first."
Me, "Gulp."
Here they come. Tanks, goons, hydras, the whole shooting match march march marching to the drums of victory, all headed for you know who. Now I was frantic! Zealots, goons, COME ON YOU GUYS! HURRY UP!
I ally-chatted my partners, "Unless you guys have some secret weapon, I think we're finished."
The reply I got was unexpected.
Blue zerg, "I do."
Me, "Well, I think now's the time to use it."
Blue zerg, "Okay."
Sounds of battle erupted at my choke point as zealots clashed with tanks, marines stimmed, goons opened their hatches to fire, and orange explosions lit up the ground. It was over, I just knew it. But I'm going to bloody their noses while this fictious secret weapon materializes. What could zerg do against four massive armies?
On the mini map, blue zerg's entire base moved. I saw it out of the corner of my eye. Like a tidal wave in a lagoon, the mass of blue poured out onto the map, erasing all other colors in it's path. I took my attention off the battle in front of me. I didn't care. I had to see what was going on.
Blue zerg had spent the entire game amassing and upgrading zerglings. A quick count revealed over 1,542,377.3675 zerglings, or nearly that many from the looks of them. I hadn't seen a zergling swarm like that since Sporkle tried it a few months ago (see my previous battle report). It was freakin' zergling diarrhea!
Me, "Cracklings. Hehe."
Blue zerg, "They're zerglings."
What!? Hey! Stupid newbie. Don't talk to me like I'm a stupid newbie. Er, um. Better keep my mouth shut. I guess this guy doesn't know you can't win with zerglings. Better not tell him now.
Brown terran was scrubbed from the map, but not without a huge struggle. He was geared to defend against zerg, but it wasn't enough in the long run. White protoss had been hording some troops, too, so out they came.
With a sea of blue cracklings, er, um, I mean zerglings, excuse me, swarming over the map, the counter punch effect was devastating. I took my pathetic remnant and joined the fray. We swept into the center of the map, erasing teal protoss's expansions. Then blue turned against teal in full force. I took out after purple again. This time I was helping white, not the other way around. He stomped purple hard while I shot the wounded.
We high tailed it over to red's neck of the woods, and after we had destroyed his base, we realized he had expanded to orange's old base. So, the fight lasted just long enough for us to show up at his second base.
We won.
Gg's were exchanged by all.
I saw it. But I still don't believe it.
I don't know who that masked zergling wrangler was, but don't ever tell him you're not supposed to play that way.
