| I'm a hacker. | | | Author: | | | IP: | 1Cust246XXXX | | Date: | 06/23/00 10:06 | | Game Type: | Starcraft | | Labels: | none | | Report Rating: , # of Ratings: 3, Max: 8, Min: 7 Lifetime Rating for Mark4: 8.6829 | | In the great and honored tradition of the Almighty Drefsab, I’m writing a report about being accused of hacking. This has a little twist on it of course, because it’s by a member of our own community. Let me set the scene.
An innocent day of smurfing
I logged on using a fresh ID name TurboManPlus. It was about the fifteenth name I tried making, so it’s a little weak, but hey, it just had to get me a game or two. I did the usual cool guy tricks so the bots couldn’t recognize me and logged onto b.net. Nohunters was being it’s usual self, with some lamer having a bot on ops that would write long elaborate descriptions of sexual acts on command. Like !rape T_Mac. I couldn’t take too much of that crap so I wandered into Brood War USA-1000. Generally a lower caliber of player than Nohunters, but some good people wander in occasionally.
I spammed a little asking for a 1v1 and Wisest~Yoda said something along the lines of “If I didn’t have this game lined up I’d own you 1v1.” His game got delayed and he ended up playing me. The map was a lost temple variant with a timer that counted down from thirty minutes. I’m sort of retiring from competitive starcraft, and just playing for fun. Yoda had a ladder of 1175 in ten games, which was good enough that I’d go for my usual toss if I felt I needed to win, but since I’m playing for fun only now, I random. I draw brown terran in the right start, he gets aqua zerg in the bottom.
Mark4’s fighting Morpheus!…errr Yoda.
I start off with a depot at the SCV line and barracks at the front gate. I get scouted by a drone a few minutes in, so I drop a second rax and depot at about 12 and 14 respectively. I had elected not to scout to not give away my race and force an anti random build, but once the drone found me I scouted with a SCV counterclockwise, thus finding WY in the last place I looked. I did notice a stationary overlord at the left start, probably a scout. I also scouted with a marine towards the bottom once I searched the top start. I started on marines and kept up on SCVs. Yoda chose to do a pool at around nine I estimate. I had one marine at my choke as the scouting marine got eaten by zerglings. My first rax was against the left side of the ramp, so I put a marine in the little nook there and blocked him in with a SCV. That way Yoda would have to micro to attack the SCV or the lings couldn’t hit the marine. No micro was invloved in that attack, and I got another two marines popping out. I lost only one marine and took down all the lings. With this success I dropped an academy and started a factory near my wall in.
Assuming that early lings vs a terran meant a lurker rush, I took seven marines and a medic against the zerg main. Yoda dropped two creep colonies when he saw me coming, but my SCV that had scouted was hanging around the zerg base. I started a bunker and ordered my troops in. They ran into three hydras on the way, killing one before the other two fled. I got a bunker near the gas while the creeps morphed to sunkens and used the marines to kill a drone or two before Yoda ran them. Three lurkers complete and attack the bunker, but a quick comsat kills one and the other two are not in range. The sunkens finish and start attacking the bunker, making me move back to the ramp, but not before I kill the extractor. All in all it cost the zerg some valuable mining time, and with the kills definitely paid for itself. I go back to doing macro at my main and lose some marines, then suicide the rest on a drone kill before they are overwhelmed.
Here lurker, lurker, lurker.
With this Yoda takes his lurkers and attacks my base. I have neglected a little bit of macro in the previous attack, but I have a bunker with marines, a turret and a tank at my wall in. The lurkers charge in and get wasted, killing a marine or two. I feel safe now and start teching in earnest. I dual engineering bay for upgrades and start a starport immediately followed by a science facility. I also send a marine to patrol the left start, since I comsated Yoda’s natural and found it empty. I started getting a kill on the overlord that Yoda had left there from his initial recon, and that’s when it started. The accusation of hacking. Apparently Yoda had just started making a hatchery there, which I hadn’t even seen, and Yoda and the players began accusing me of hacking. I guess these are the sort of people that are just too damn newbie to patrol the other mains on Lost Temple with military units, and think that my doing so means I’m a hacker. If anyone wants to know, this one particularly annoying newbie named Ghar was doing a “lot” of the talking.

I have made on wraith out of my starport before starting serious science vessel production, and send it to the top left island and around the left main to the lower right island, swinging around the top of Yoda’s natural. I find an overlord there, which I kill. I get accused of hacking a lot more. Right. Because Zerg “never” put an overlord over their natural to watch for troop movements. I know I always do that as zerg…
At this point Yoda says “GG”. I wait for him to quit. He doesn’t. He instead demands I take a screenshot and send it to him after the game. Hoping to shame him into admitting that maybe, just maybe, he is getting beaten by a better player instead of a hacker, I tell him I’m Mark4 and pause the game, offering to alt tab out and send him the screenshot from my Mark4 email address right then. He says, “more likely you’re pausing to turn off your hack” and demands the game continue. Yeah, thanks.

His next move is a two lurker drop on my base. I had expected something like this and put a marine out in the usual position people try to drop from, but he managed to slip by my defenses by coming in from an angle on my base. I saw the movement of the overlord just at the edge of the fog of war and sent a science vessel to check it out. Two lurkers on the ground….I irradiated the first one and grabbed another science vessel to tag the second. I then ran half my SCVs to my natural where I had just landed a new command center. He got two SCVs on gas before the irradiate took it’s toll and killed the lurkers. No problem.

I scout his natural with my wraith and find it’s empty of a hatchery, but has quite a few hydras. The wraith runs home to get repaired. That’s when I get a little more abuse about my hacking. Yoda starts to backtrack a little now, saying he never accused me of hacking. Right, I always ask people to take screenshots when I don’t think they are hacking. Also, that little remark about me pausing to turn off my hack must not count, huh?
Anyway, I continue on my quest for 3/3 marines and an assload of science vessels. I send two SCVs to the top main to start and expansion. I comsat the left starts and see it’s bare, then his natural. I see a lot of hydras moving out of the natural towards the left main. I comsat up a little and see even more. My guess is that he’s trying to take another main in force. I gather up five control groups of marines and a few science vessels and send them to his natural. On top of his ramp are two lurkers and a group of hydras. Irradiate takes down the lurkers, then I stim and charge. Another lurker and about ten hydras prove little obstacle. Neither do the three sunkens defending the main. I roll over the last little bit of his main and exit the game.

In the main chat Yoda gives me wisemasteryoda@hotmail.com as his email address. I tried sending the above pictures there, but the address was rejected by the hotmail server. I’d just like to give a big hearty GG out to Yoda for thinking my poor terran skills were so godly that I must be hacking to have beaten him.
