The U.E.D was destroyed and the zerg now lie in wait for the orders of Kerrigan. Although destroyed, a few U.E.D forces remained intact. They retreated to a lowly desert planet and plan their next course of action. If they can rebuild their forces they could try and return home. For now they are trapped and wait for any good news. A few of the rebels from this sector have joined the ranks of the U.E.D. This rag tag group is under the command of General Walt, a veteran of The Brood Wars and a capable leader. Perhaps with his experience, the small armies can regroup and escape the Hell that is this sector. Little do they know that a zerg brood has also come to this barren wasteland and are spreading their filth across the desert sands. The zerg are led by Thoron. He is a new cerebrate under Kerrigans control. He is untested in battle, but will soon learn the fine art of war very, very soon.
The twin suns peaked over the horizon and heated the dusty desert cliffs. The small terran outpost came to life in the morning light. SCV workers set to gathering precious minerals as marines manned their posts. Every soldier and worker sweated from the heat and the anticipation of a zerg attack. A scout reported the arrival of a zerg brood, about two miles from their location. The transmission ended abruptly and everyone assumed the worst. A zerg brood was bad news for any terran outpost, especially one with only a barracks and one bunker to protect it.
Four marines looked out from the steel shell that stood as the last and only line of defense for their small base. The veteran of the defenders quietly enjoyed a smoke as the other three rookies paced back and forth in the cramped bunker. They walked and paced nervously around the bunker until the veteran could barley take it anymore. “Jesus Christ, will you three settle down. Man can hardly enjoy a smoke with you three pacing idiots!” “well shit sarge. I kinda get nervous when those damn zergies are waiting for us.” “Yeah! How we suppose to know if somethin’s comin’ if we ain’t lookin’ out the windows?” “Trust me boys. When the zergies come you’ll know. The ground starts shaken and the sky turns black without a cloud in the sky. You look out and BAM! Ten, twenty of the sons of bitches are comin right at you.Gausse fire bounces right off ‘em. They start to slash and spit and soon they break through the walls. The only thing between you and them is your rifle and the sonovabitch in front of you.” “Hey sarge?” “Yeah?” “What’s them little things the zergy got?” “What? You mean zerglings?” “Yeah. What do they look like?” “Well. There bout the size of a dog. Big claws, big teeth and they smell like shit. Why?” “Cause six of those mother fuckers are headed our way!” “Dammit to Hell! Why didn’t you say so?! Move and let me see!” Sure enough six lings were converging fast. The sarge picked up the teleline and called HQ. “This is Sergeant Hood at the bunker. We’re gonna need a repair crew down here fast, zergies are comin.” “Roger that sergeant. Dispatching SCV’s to your position.” The sarge hung up the phone and grabbed his rifle. “Lock and load boys! On my mark fire at will! Ready?! Pour it on!” The rifles unloaded a fury of metal spikes into the pack of lings. Two dropped from gausse fire but the other four charged ahead. The lings crashed into the bunker and began to slash away at the steel. Even with rifle fire raining upon themthe lings cut deep into the structure. In the end guasse fire prevailed and the lings slumped bloody and dead on the stainless steel. The four marines toasted their victory with a beer or two as the SCV’s repaired
the damage and hosed off the blood and entrails off the steps.
The teleline rang and the victorious sergeant answered with whoops and hollers from the men behind him. “Sergeant Hood?” “Speaking.” This is General Walt over in HQ. I saw what you and your men did and I wish to congradulate you on your victory.” “Thank you sir. We’re always happy to kick a little zerg ass for ya.” “I’m glad to hear it. We have three bunkers and a factory running full steam and a new academy has just fitted a few new firebats. Corporal Pierce is headed your way on a new shiny vulture with a pair of bats and marines. Please let them feel at home on the front lines.” “Will do sir.” “I want you to report when your reinforcements arrive. General Walt, over and out.” The sergent hung up the phone and started barking orders. “Private Billy Bob! Tell those SCV’s we need another bunker right over there.” “Are we authorized to do that sir?” “Dammit to Hell will you just do it!” “Yes sir. Right away sir.” The private rushed out of the bunker and delivered the message. The SCV began construction and the new bunker was just finishing as Corporal Pierce and his men arrived.
“Sergeant Hood?” “Yeah?” “Corporal Jason Pierce, at your service.” “Glad to have you aboard. Tell your men to move into the bunker yonder. Have one of your bats join my men in this bunker here.” “Yes sir. You heard the man. Move out!” The soldiers piled into the steel shells, leaving the sergeant and the corporal to talk alone. “That there’s a nice lookin bike. You got mines on that thing?” “Yes sir. Got them loaded on before I left.” “That’s good. I need you to drop your mines about twenty paces from the bunker.” “Yes sir.” The corporal turned to leave and reached into his pack and removed a small crate. “These are fresh out of the academy research department.” The sergeant opened the box to reveal piles upon piles of shiny needles.” “Stimpacks?” “That’s correct sir. Enough for everyone and them some.” “I always wanted to try these. Good work sergeant. Now go drop those mines and report back to me.” “Yes sir.” The corporal departed in a cloud of dust and began dropping spider mines leaving the sergeant to pass out his stimpack’s. The sergeant passed the needles out to the men and waited for Billy Bob to say something stupid. He didn’t wait long. “Hey sarge?” “Yes Billy Bob?” “What are these needles for?” “They’re your stimpack supplies.” “What are stimpacks?” “Jesus Lord almighty! Don’t tell me you got through basic training and you don’t know what stimpacks are?” “Sorry sir, I must have missed that part of training.” “God your fucking stupid. Look here boy. When you inject this here needle into your arm, a bunch of chemicals go into your brain see? It makes you faster and more honoree than a medic with p.m.s. You can kill more stuff in less time.” “Oh, I get it now sarge.” “That’s good soldier, real good. Now. Why don’t you take a few stimpacks and go scout the canyon.” “But who will take my post in the bunker sir?” “Don’t you worry, I’ll take care of that. Just scout the canyon until for about…two miles.” “Sure thing sir.” The simple private wandered out into the wilderness into the waiting jaws of the zerg.
Back at HQ, the general was overseeing the growth of his outpost. He sat in his chair, viewing the busy workers and the grinding machinery displayed on massive screens inside the command center. Siege tanks were rolling off the production lines from two factories and the SCV’s had just completed construction of the engineering bay and a second center was already floating to the mineral deposits on the “island” to the left. “General.” “Yes private?” “We has a request for more food and supplies.” “Tell private’s Emerson and Philips to build two more depots. Until they are complete, tell the men to ration supplies.” “Very good sir, will Private Emerson and Private Philips report to grid 8-3 and wait for further orders. I also wish to report that five siege tanks are now operational and are awaiting further instruction.” Tell tanks one, three and five to report to the front line defenses. Tanks two and four will continue to wait for further orders.” “I am delivering the orders now sir. They have acknowledged and are moving out.” “Construction of the Comsat Station is complete. Construction of the starport is complete.” “Comsat Station is operational and power levels are at 65 and rising. Starport crews wishes to know if production of wraiths should begin?” “Negative. Tell the starport teams to build a control tower and begin two dropships as soon as possible.” “Copy that sir. Power levels of the Comsat Station are now at 100. Do you wish to use the scanner sweep?” “Yes. Initiate the sweep in quadrant four, section eight.” “Roger that sir, scanner activating….now.” In a swirl of blue light the Comsat picture came into focus on the main screen. The generals worst fears were confirmed as the picture became clearer. The yellow sands were were now covered in a thick carpet of creep. In the center of the photo was a lair structure with drones gathering minerals around it. To the left was the spiked fin of a Hydralisk Den and a mushroom shaped spire. They had air support and not a single turret had been raised. The general grabbed the teleline and started screaming orders over the com. “Attention! We have an emergency! All available SCV’s are too begin immediate turret construction! Barracks 1 and 2 we need marines on the double! What’s the condition on those dropships private!” “Two ships are ready and waiting!” “Tell those ships to get some tanks and SCV’s on that cliff to the south on the double! When they get there, tell the tanks to siege and get those SCV’s making as many turrets that will fit on that cliff! Understand?!” “Perfectly sir! Relaying your orders now!”
As the general prepared for war at home, Thoron rallied his zerg brood for another attack. Thoron was a new cerebrate to the zerg swarm and was given control of this desert planet by Queen Kerrigan herself. Zerglings had encountered terran forces and Kerrigans orders were loud and clear. “Kill anything that walks on two legs!” He would serve his queen well and spoke to the waiting zerg army. He was inexperienced, but was eager to serve the will of his queen. He spoke to the troops covered in slime and lying in creep. Before him was a fine army of lurkers, hydralisks and mutalisks, who hovered over head listening to his every word. “My fellow zerg, today we will rid this planet of the terran infestation. We will feast on their bones and drink of their blood. Our armies will spread across this world until it is a firm foothold in the new zerg empire. So crawl, slither and fly to your waiting victory. Victory for your queen! Victory for Kerrigan! All hail Kerrigan Queen of Blades!” The response echoed through the zerg ranks. “All hail Kerrigan! All hail Kerrigan!” Away the zerg army went, fueled by the will of Kerrigan and their own hunger.
Poor Private Billy Bob was still walking down the canyon when the ground started to shake. The shaking increased and soon the sky was filled with…water. “Another geyser. Hot damn! Better call HQ and tell them what Private…no…Corporal Billy Bob found.” He opened the com-link and directed the call straight to the command center. “General?” “Yeah?” “There’s a call on the com-link from a scout. He says he has some important information. “Put it on the big screen.” The private punch in the coordinates and soon a fuzzy picture came into view. “General?” “Yes this is the general. What do you have to report?” “I’m about one mile from the front lines and I have discovered a mineral zone and a geyser. I’m sending the coordinates now sir.” “We have received your transmission. Report back to base, it looks like a storm is headed your way.” “Storm? But there isn’t a cloud in the sky.” “Well than what is that behind you?” Private Billy Bob looked back at what appeared to be a dark swirling cloud. It was moving very fast and as it grew closer the private began to run. “Private what do you see?” “Zergies! A whole army headed right for me!” “Try to hide!” “There’s no time! There right on me! Die you son of a bitch! DIE! DIE! DIE! DI……” The sounds of guasse fire ceased as the helmet camera Billy Bob was wearing caught the images of a ravenous zerg army headed straight for the terran main. “Holy shit! Private! Hand me the com. Attention! Red Alert! This is not a drill! A zerg army is headed our way! Everyone report to their posts! Battle stations, battle stations!” The terran soldiers dropped everything and headed to the front. Tanks locked in siege mode as marines stopped looking at the medics asses at started doing weapons check. Bunkers were filled and the unlucky marines on the outside huddled close to the siege tanks. Wraiths flew overhead and cloaked, as SCV’s were pulled from mining to make repairs. In the command center, the general looked over the tape from Billy Bob to see exactly what he was dealing with. “Rewind that tape and play it back for me. Looks like hydralisk’s and muta’s. Nothing we can’t handle.” Alas, Bob fell in such an awkward way that he failed to tape the seven lurkers that were walking with the army of hydra’s. That didn’t matter as the air raid sirens pierced the air and the sergeant at the front now hand his hands full.
“Hot damn that’s a lot of zerg!” The sergeant checked his ammo and took aim at the mass of zerg in front of him. “Get ready to blast those bastards back to mama boys! Fire on three. THREE!” The marines opened fire and sent a shower of bullets into the zerg lines. The hydralisks stopped their charge and began to hurl spines at the bunkers. The grooved bio-missles cut deep into the steel and slashed the armor of any unsheltered soldier. Tanks opened fire and the cannons took their toll on the zerg. Huge holes were blasted in the zerg lines, but more and more and more zerg filled the canyon. Mutalisks screamed down upon the helpless tanks, whose drivers could only watch as the acid ate through the armor plates. The turrets fired their missiles that sent mutalisk after mutalisk crashing to ground in a shower of blood and entrails. Wraiths flew in and Gemini Anti-air missiles exploded, spraying the ground troops in blood. Overlords flew into the battle and their sensors detected the hidden foes. The overlords directed the mutalisks who now spit acid on the cloaked fighters. Outnumbered, the pilots fled and led the mutalisks into the waiting jaws of surface to air turret missiles. Each flying beast let out a final scream as it crashed to the dusty sands. On the ground, the hydralisks were fighting a losing battle. But their sacrifice was not in vain. In the midst of the chaos the lurkers were able to burrow and now launched a subterranean ambush. Those marines that were not sheltered by the bunkers were soon under attack from an unseen enemy. Spines tore through the ground and sliced at the legs of the brave marines. The soldiers fell and were helpless to the many spines that shredded the terran elite where they lay. But the great General Walt was undaunted as he ordered a scanner sweep. The sweep reveled the hated lurkers who were sent to Hell in a wave of siege tank fire. Without lurkers and with no air support, the hydralisks were forced to limp home. They had failed their queen and they would pay dearly. The sight of a retreating zerg army sent a roar of victory throughout the terran forces. The sergeant raised his visor and enjoyed a smoke. Maybe they would survive on this world. Only time would tell.
The general sat back in his chair to enjoy the victory. He then picked up the teleline and called his sister base located in the Ring Valley. But he received no answer and would not for quite some time. For the terran forces there had troubles of there own.
