"Why Terrans should Wall-in?"

by TX-0

WARRING: This a tale of fine cheese, this is not recommended for those with weak stomachs. Please take small bites and chew carefully.  I am not responsible for any side effects of the cheese.

Cheese of month club

I set up a friendly game of 1vs1-Temple. shortly after my opponent WizardPC joined, he gave our salutations and the game began.  We both randomed, I drew Zerg at the 9 position, I sent my Overload to the 6 start position, and find nothing, I like to know what race I'm playing so I send my 8th drone to 12. As Zerg I generally like to early expand, but depending on what race I'm playing will determine, when and how I do it.

WizrdPC is messages me "It's all about having fun"

Well at least he has a grasp on why we're playing games, and seems like a decent player.

I my drone hits 12 nothing, I send it 3. My Overlord is also in route to the 3 cliff to watch for expansions later in the game. About now I start getting nervous, because I have 9 drones, and my 2nd OL but yet I'm sure what I'm up against. I start the pool, (safest move) after I start up the ramp I see he's terran,  I run my drone around his base, we had started a wall-in but canceled the buildings as soon as he saw I was Zerg. He attacks the drone with 2 SCV's, I run it out his base. I start to morph 6 zerglings, I've found terran often has a problem fending off quick zerglings, or course good players will know what to do, and this won't work. But I'll know what kind of a opponent I'm up against, and it a good start toward lurkers.

I run my zerglings over his base to make trouble, about now I would expand, followed  by a lair. But what's this? I have a drone at the bottom of his ramp. Hummmm.... I read this report on Tao about a offensive Hatch, but nah, that was crap it would never work.

I can't belive it's not butter!

Since I seldom win against good terran player as Zerg (I'm not gosu like some). What the hay, I send the drone up to the top of his ramp and start the hatch. I run the zerglings into his base to see what trouble I can cause.

Not much he has made a bunker just underneath his Command Center, surrounded by supply depots. A good place for it since I can't really get to anything, but it won't matter I'll use the sukens to take out his base. I pull my Zerglings back near the hatch.  I'm making zerglings in my main, and a drone here and there. I bring over 6 more zerglins to help, and a drone to help.

map1.gif (45308 bytes)He run a few marines out I take them on with the zerglings losing most of them, but he managed to see the hatch. Damn, I was hoping to keep it cancelled a bit longer, he starts a bunker between his bunker and the hatch. When I try to hit the SCV making the bunker I get hit by the bunker under his command center. (You can see in the PIC here.)

So I pull back, he moves his marines into it and starts another bunker even closer to command center. Once again I can't do much about it, the secret here is DON'T LOSE YOUR ZERGLINGS. I run them around looking for easy targets, I find a marine by it self so I take it out. I hit other building on the side to make shuffle his unit around.

I like mine Brie!

His bunker completes near my hatch and he moves marines into it. The hatch completes, I have 2 drones so I start two creep colonies behind the hatch, while the hatch is getting pounded by the bunker. It's not looking good for the hatch but I figure the sukens will live thus preserving the creep to build more sukens.  He bring down a few more marines to help but I take them out with the zerglings. The sukens complete with about 50% life on the hatch. They proceed to rip apart the bunker and the marinas in it. I make another creep a little closer, and morph it right away. It starts to hit the next bunker. I run my zerglings around to the side and find a Factory it's out of range on the main bunker, so I force him to left it off. I build another creep closer, it starts to hit his barracks which he's forced to left off. It's not looking good. So after get says "GJ" and leaves.Map2.gif (52098 bytes)

I feel a little guilty about spreading the cheese on so thickly, but I had to see if the Offensive Hatch was a load crap or not.  Needless to say it get my seel of approval.

WizardPC seemed to play it well, I guess it harder to fight off than I thought.

Don't let this happen to you! Wall In today. If anyone knows other way to stop the this flavor of cheese I'd to hear it.

Hope enjoyed this report.
