The battle of the moose salesmen

After my last Spunk and Shandy BR, some of the people we crying out for a "real" game. Therefore I am proud to present a 2v2 between Team Spank (~Lela~ and ::Anybody::) and Team Lame ([BaD]Davy and The-Lakers). The name of this BR is "Operation Lame"… not because the game was lame, but because Team Lame pulled every lame trick in the book. Would the lame prevail? Or would Team Spank be triumphant? Well, you gotta read…

The map of choice for this game was the always fun battleground of Rivalry. As the fog of war lifted for the observers, Lela was granted red terran at 1:00, Anybody got yellow toss at 11:00, Davy was given brown terran at 5:00, and Lakers found himself with purple toss at 7:00. My fellow obs was the infamous Baxter-O'Bixby who helped me keep track of the game and made sure I didn't miss a spot of action. A big thanks goes out to Bax ^^

As the players commenced their building orders Davy announced his plan to Lakers, "Just win." It sounded simple enough, but when the two players are Davy and Lakers, "winning" can be a very difficult thing ;). Anybody started with a 3 gate build, while Lela went for a quick tech to 2 factory heavy metal. Davy went for a normal two rax build and Lakers began to get lame… Lakers went forge first and brought a probe to the upper part of Anybody's base, just out of sight, and began to warp in a pylon, followed by 2 cannons. Lakers was doing the ultra-lame offensive cannon! As more and more cannons began to warp, they creeped towards Anybody's assilimator, and when about 7 cannons were warped, the assimilator began to get hit and Anybody knew he had problems. Now, Anybody is a RL friend of mine, and I've been trying to give him tips on his gameplay… he saw the 3 gate zealots he had been massing, and knew they couldn't stop the cannons, so he did something that made me proud…he went for Lakers' main! Lakers had only about 3 zeals when Anybody arrived, but wnybody forgot to attack move (doh!) and lost a dispropotionate amount of zealots. Despite his poor micro, Anybody had good macro and pounded his way up the ramp and into Lakers' unguarded base. Anybody went straight for the probes and began giving the workers an early retirement ^^. Davy, however, was on the ball and brought a squad of marines to end the threat…unfortunately Lakers was hurt substantially, but he did have his cannons in Anybody's base, and a newly warped one began to beat on Anybody's nexus…

Only Moose salesmen do offensive cannons!

At this point, Bax thought that the game was over, but what he didn't see was Lela's tanks coming to save the day! Lela's tech to heavy metal had paid off as two tanks rolled into Anybody's main and decimated the cannons. Anybody and Lakers were both badly hurt by this point. Lakers had lost a great deal of cash by losing the cannons, and Anybody had lost a good number of zeals, an assimilator, and some probes. After the initial ruckus, Team Spank looked to gain control of the map. Anybody expanded to his natural, while Lela expanded to both 9:00 AND 3:00. Bax, being quite an observant guy, noted that Lakers and Davy would be in deep doo-doo if Lela got her expansions online.
As Lela and Anybody looked to gain a resource advantage, Davy decided to follow Lakers' lame act with one of his own. Davy loaded up two tanks into a dropship and brought the dropship up the left side of the map. Ironically, his ship was so focused on being unseen, that it failed to notice Lela's newly forming 9:00 expansion! The dropship flew up to a very small ledge behind Anybody's minerals, and dropped two tanks on the ledge. (until Davy did this, I didn't even think that tanks could fit on that ledge!) The timing was just right for Anybody, however, because as soon as the tanks dropped, his nexus at his natural finished warping in and he simple moved his probes down before Davy could cause any harm. Davy's tanks couldn't reach the main Nexus, so Anybody was down one mining spot, but didn't experience a great deal of losses. Anybody decided the time was ripe to counter with goons and zealots, and went after Lakers for a second time. Lela would of helped, but was busy getting her 2 expansions well defended. Anybody's attack met cannons at Lakers' ramp, and almost pushed its way into Lakers' base, but Davy saved the day again with a newly build squadron of wraiths. Thus phase two of Operation Lame had taken place…

Ewww. . .turbo-newbie. Can you say 'Moose Salesman'?

After phase 2 of Operation Lame, there was a short lull as everyone began to recover. In this lull, Lela began to fortify her 3:00 and 9:00 expansions with marines, tanks, and turrets. Lakers expanded to the 6:00 position and began warping in stargates... looks like lame carriers to me… Anybody, meanwhile, is working on massing goons and Davy just kind of sits there. The first action after the build up is instigated by Davy as he hits Lela's 9:00 expansion with his wraiths and two tanks. Lela is an expert at defense and is able to fend off the tanks and turrets kill a few wraiths before scaring them off. At this point, Bax reminded me to take a look at the upgrades. The only person to have upgrades more than one thing was Lela who was sitting pretty with 2/2 tank upgrades and 1/1 marine upgrades. Lela then expands again to her natural, giving her 4 operational bases! Davy also expands to his natural and STILL has his tanks above Anybody's main. Looks like it's time for map update!

The small prints says 'Have you ever wanted a moose? Come on down to uncle Chester's Moose Land and pick up a moose today!' . . . or something like that.

Anybody then takes the opportunity to expand to the 12:00 position and FINNALY gets a shuttle with some zealots to take down Davy's turbo newbie at his base. Unfortunately, as Anybody destroyed Davy's turbo newbie, Davy's wraiths had discovered the new 12:00 base and began to take it down… suddenly mass goons and goliaths came to the rescue, totally obliterating the tin can wraiths. Had mass factories pumping tanks and goliaths, as well as a good number of rax making marines…she had a lethal mix of terran troops all upgraded to 3/3. Lakers was using his stargates to begin to pump carries…and arbiters as well. He also had a large group of speed upgraded zealots (its gotta be the shoes! =P). Anybody still is massing goons, but has some templars armed with storm for late game mayhem. Davy continues to build marines, tanks, and wraiths, with an occasional vulture. The silence is finally broken as Lakers sends about 16 zealots to Lela's 9:00 expansion, hoping to catch her off guard. This is not the case, however, as Lela quickly and efficiently dispatched the zealots. Davy and Lakers both realize that they are in, as the British say, "A spot of trouble." =P

Lakers wants Davy to use his 'vuluter' to 'crack the nut' . . . only a moose salesman would want that!

At this point, Davy decides to take his wraith on a map scouting mission. What he manages to do is run his wraiths into about every cannon or turret on the map . . . making for some bad recon and some messed up wraiths (time to recycle those suckers into tin cans! =D). Lakers decides that it is time to make something happen. He takes another group of 18 zealots as well as 7 carriers and an arbiter to take down 9:00 once and for all… He attacks with full force, but Lela's gosu terran and Anybody's templars hold steady. Lakers uses stasis to try and freeze some marines, but only get a medic and a group of his own interceptors =P. Lela then loads up 4 tanks and 8 goliaths into dropships and drops then on Lakers 6:00 expansion. The goliaths quickly take down two interceptor lacking carriers and go to work on the stargates. Lakers is now faced with a tough choice. . . does he use his carriers to destroy 9:00, or bring then back to quell the threat at 6:00. His choice is a wise one as the carriers return to defend and save his fleet beacon and stargates. Anybody also launches a small attack on Lakers' natural, but Lakers is able to hold steady with some goons and templars. Lame carriers had entered the game, setting in motion Phase 3 of Operation Lame.

I'm running out of things to say about moose salesmen. . . if you or anyone you know is a moose salesman, please send me some jokes!

It is now a good time to look at the minerals on the map, as they are running VERY thin. Davy has a lot of troops, but both his main and his natural are mined out, giving him no source of income except gas (he even expands to the geyser only expansion in the middle of the map =P). Lakers has only a few mins left at both 6:00 and his natural, but he will run out very shortly. Lela has mined out 9:00 and her main, leaving her with a few minerals at 3:00 and her natural. Anybody has mined out his main and natural and is running off minerals from 12:00. The only places with a decent amount of minerals are 12:00 and Lela's natural, both controled by Team Spank. Team Lame realizes this and know that the iron is hot, and it is time to strike. Simeotaneosly, Davy hits 3:00 while Lakers hits 9:00. At 9:00, Lakers' carriers lose interceptors fast to the mass goliaths, but wave after wave of zealots begins to turn the tide, Anybody drops some templars behind the carries and manages to get some storms off, but the carriers continue to pound away at Lela's base. Meanwhile, a 3:00, Davy meets little resistance as his force marches up the right side of the map (until this attck, NO attacks had been done on the right side of the map). Lela then makes an interesting descision and drops a huge force of goliaths and tanks in Lakers main. Lakers retreats and engages the attack. This could be a very decisive battle with so few minerals left on the map… The upgrades tanks and goliaths do their damage, but the wounded carriers hold on and return to finish off 9:00. During the chaos, Davy was able to bring his force up and destroy Lela's natural, but was stopped at Lela's main. Lela, seeing 9:00 go down, gets frusterated and then, to my horror, LEAVES THE GAME!!

OMG! The moose salesmen tricked Lela into leaving the game!!

Lela's timing couldn't have been worse, as she leaves at the exact time that Lakers also runs out of minerals! Now both members of Team Lame are out of income and Anybody is force to fend for himself. Anybody then does something very interesting and warps in a mass amount of cannons at his natural. As Lakers' carriers arrive, Anybody storms the crap our of them and the cannons destroy all their interceptors! Lakers, with no money, now has a fleet of half-dead carriers with no interceptors! Lakers is forced to long distance mine from the scraps left at Lela's old natural to get interceptor money! Davy attacks from the right side in hopes of gaining the 12:00 resource node (and only one with any money left) from Anybody. Davy destroys the nexus, but when he tries to push into Anybody's natural, Anybody hold off with goons and zealots and pushes back to 12:00 and Lela's natural! Davy, on seeing the game shift back and forth so dramatically, thinks that Anybody may have the victory. Davy doesn't give up though and attacks 12:00 again, but is stopped, leaving Anybody very crippled. With no one able to claim the last mineral spot for a long period of time, the game is down to a game of units… Lakers and some carriers with few interceptors, Davy with 5 tanks, and Anybody with some zealots and goons… Davy and Lakers finally mount their last attack to try and save the game…if they fail, Anybody will have 12:00 and the game. Davy moves his tanks in and sieges them, and then Lakers does a very lame thing… HALLUCINATE!! The hallucinated tanks draw fire and are able to give the real tanks (and a few of Lakers' zealots) just the advantage they need to move in and take 12:00! The remaining tanks move in to kill the mass cannons at Anybody's natural, and thus 3 tanks (only 3 survived)) and some empty carriers had pulled out a victory for Team Lame in one of the closed games I had ever seen. Btw, Team Lame killed Anybody's last building with SCVs and an arbiter…that's pretty damn lame hehe.

Envy the power of the moose salesmen!

Thank you all for reading this Beast of a BR! (it's a "real" one too! hehe) It was a pleasure to watch and I thank all the players. I also thank my fellow obs, Bax =) Bax, you own! From Sunny Southern California, this is ::nobody:: saying goodnight:
