INTRO:
I had been hanging around in
nohunters in the wee hours of the morning, playing games with |)agomar,
Nazgul, and some other when one of us decided to do a BR. I had
never done one before; in fact I didn't know where to begin!
After Dag told me how to get the appropriate software I decided why not
give it a try, so they chose PGL Lost Temple and so began my frenzied
print-screen pressing fiasco...
MAP:
The Not-So-Lost Temple
Players:
Nazgul[GOD] - Brown
Protoss - 9:00
|)agomar(gusu) - Red Terran
- 12:00
Notes:
Both
players selected their race and claimed it to be their
"favorite." I also made it clear that the game was a
learning experience for me, too (in terms of making a BR that is --
not playing the game I swear!) |
 |
Both players started off
with pretty conservative builds. Nazgul
went pylon on 7, Gateway on 9 then another gateway and another
pylon. Interestingly he decided to make only about 6 zeals, opting
instead for a quick assimilator + cyber core before pumping nothing but
'goons.
 |
Dagomar
built an obvious 'racks units rush, despite the ever-more-popluar
'heavy metal' technique for TvP games nowadays.
He built rax on 7,
depot, rax, bunker, refinery, and academy. It was obvious from
his tight town that he was preparing for a zeal rush: |
With 7 marines, 3 medics,
and a couple of firebats, Dagomar
decided do make
the first strike. After scouting early with an SCV, Dag
brought his force outside Naz's
natural, careful not to let the medics stray ahead (can someone say "pathing
error" ?!). Moving in, the troops made quick work of the 4 zealots
and two cannons holding their position, with Dag
losing only 4 troops!.
| At this point Naz
had taken a huge risk making an early expansion, and
had almost no units besides the zealots he just lost. Dag
decided to seize the moment, and quickly stimmed his forces and laid
seige to the now defenseless Nexus.
It was also at this
point that yours truly recognized how long it takes to bring down a
nexus using nothing but marines! Watching those soldiers pump
that building full o' lead (er whatever the hell it is 'gauss'
rifles shoot) reminded me of when I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel
syndrome last year and had to wear these Judd-Nelson-in-Breakfeast
Club style gloves for a month... but I think I'm getting off the
sunject :P ... |

 |
During
this frustratingly long shooting bonanza Naz
managed to pump out 6 fast goons from his 3 Gateways.
Overpowering the force with the help of high ground-cover, he managed to narrowly escape what seemed to
be a certain and quick loss and live for another day (er minute..
whatever). Unfortunatley Dag
had managed to do quite a bit of teching during this time period;
getting a factory with machine shop and comsat. |
Backed by a couple more
goons, Naz
made a risky decision to send all he had in a quick counterstike on Dagomar,
after stopping to rip apart a couple of lone medics much to my obvious
disliking!
The tactic worked.
Dagomar was caught teching like a chobo on speed. Soon a sole bunker
with marines was his sole defense, and he fought like hell to repel the
unexpected intruders:

The tooth and nail fight worked and somehow
Dagomar
managed to fight off
the goon squad. Naz,
however, smartly decided to keep the pressure on, sending a second wave of
a few more goons with the range upgrade moments after losing his initial
bitch squad. What happened next was a lesson is teching v. unit building:
just because you got the first punch doesn't always mean your opponent is
gonna take a breather to lick his wounds.
After assassinating the
annoying SCVs the bunker fell and so did red's base, just as red finally
began to get his tank supply going.
The usual "gg's"
were exchanged and Dag
surrendered this intelligently played match.

The stats: Close, but no
cigar for Dag!

I hope this
is something close to what a BR is supposed to look like! thanks for
reading!
