THE MINER'S REVOLT

I finally clocked out at 3:30pm and headed home eager to try out this new strat. However, I kept getting booted out of the 1v1 BGH games with my Drefsab account. I decided to switch to my old BGH alter ego, 555-1212. (NOT MY HOME PHONE NUMBER SO QUIT CALLING!!)

My normal record on that account was 16-24, however, I had played one ladder game on that account and had a 1025 rating. I decided that this record wasn't shabby enough so I joined a 1v1 Temple Ladder game with every intention of throwing a couple of games to make my record more newbieish.

THE GAME:

I quickly chose terran (lowering my chances of winning by another 30%) and watched as he chose zerg.

I landed with my Gray Command Center at the 12 o'clock position. This lowered my chances of winning by another 5%. Kendrick's Blue Hatchery morphed in at the 3:00 position.

I quickly cloned 3 of my 4 SCVs to mineral patches and sent the 4^th one out on a little scouting trip. My economy was weakened, but I would gain valuable intelligence information.

My SCV started scouting clockwise so of course, the first position he scouted was 3:00 where Kendrick's base was located.

Oh yeah baby, SCV rush time!!

I had a total of 5 SCVs back at home now so I sent them running towards Kendrick's base and ran my scouting SCV back out to the choke to wait for the reinforcements to arrive.

I had 62 minerals left so I lifted off my command center and started floating it over to the top left island.

When my SCVs arrived at Kendrick's base, I grouped them together and attacked!! There were only 3 drones available to defend Kendrick's base because he had chosen to 4 pool. A heavy duty, micro intensive battle ensued. I proved to be the superior microer because I destroyed all 3 drones without losing a single SCV.

Unfortunately, my luck had run out. Just as the last of Kendrick's drones were destroyed, his spawning pool completed.

He had 3 larva available to him and immediately began warping all of them into deadly zerglings. My SCVs desperately tried to destroy the morphing larva before they had a chance to hatch, but it was to no avail. My SCVs, already weakened by the assault on the drones, quickly fell to the zerglings killing only 2 before succumbing to the ravenous creatures.

I was a little disappointed by this setback, however, I didn't give up. I was landing my command center on the top left island at about the time that my last SCV was killed. This meant that our economies were just about even since I had managed to kill off all his drones.

I set down my command center on the island and spent 50 of my 62 remaining minerals on an SCV. It was a slow process, but I slowly built up to 8 SCVs and started constructing a supply depot.

It was about this time that I received a message from Kendrick.

I tried to feign innocence and pretend like I didn't know what he was talking about, but eventually he figured it out and the gig was up.

I decided to go for quick wraiths (quick being a relative term in this case), however my plan was cut short by this message:

Puzzled, I continued playing to see what had happened although I already had my suspiscions. I lifted off my barracks and floated it towards the deserted Zerg base and this is what I saw.

That's right folks, no drones. Kendrick spent all his money on zerglings to defend against my SCV attack and he didn't have enough minerals to buy another drone.

So much for trying to lose. I guess the old SC survival instincts kicked in. It probably helped that my opponent's stupidity instinct kicked in at the same time. :-)
