This report really wasn't that great, I thought. I think that the name Drefsab attached to it probably earned the bulk of its rating. I mean c'mon, it was about someone SCV rushing a 4-pooling zerg, and it's "ownage?" I'm sorry, no. This is not a great BR, which should always be a close game, epic in scope, and consist of many brutal, bloody battles, the victor always in doubt until the very end. Instead we have "name" people pumping out quickie 5 minute ladder reports and getting comments like "omg, OWNAGE!", "u rule, this BR is gosu," etc. Honestly. If a relative unknown did this report, I bet it wouldn't get any higher than 4.
No offense Dref, I generally like your reports, but I just felt cheated reading this one and don't think it deserved the rating it got. |

Dah, just because this most does have extreme strategical content, doesn't mean I wasn't laughing like a son of a bitch when I read it. Dref's reports aren't the norm, nor do I think they should be rated that way.
If you gave the rating out of how much enjoyment the reader got from it, I would be suprised that this isn't a 9+. |

I'm sorry that you do not find this report humorous. I would like to address a couple of the quotes that you made and hopefully you will see this and respond because I <b>do</b> appreciate all types of feedback.

I disagree with this. Perhaps this is the style of battle reporting that you like best but there are other types too. If every report was like what you described then don't you think it would get old after awhile? The point of this report and which most people seemed to grasp was to describe a humorous situation that I experienced on B.Net. Don't you find it even a little bit funny that I won a ladder game on B.Net with a 6 SCV, lift off my command center to the nearest isle rush strat. Come on man, loosen your collar. I could probably try to do that 100 times and lose before that actually worked again.

This is probably the commment that irked me the most. I haven't seen many reports from you on this site so perhaps you don't realize how time consuming it is to "pump out quickie reports". Honestly, if every single report I did was some 10 calibre, graphic intensive, 2 hour, seasaw, kickass battle with 2 marquee players duking it out, I would spend my whole life doing nothing but battle repors.
My goal here, and the reason I post here is because I like to share unique, humorous, and interesting things that I experience on B.Net. Go back and do a search on my name. You'll see that a lot of my reports are total beat downs. But they were <b>FUNNY</b> beat downs. People laughed. I laugh when I go back and read them.
I actually was expecting higher than a 7. I'm not dissatisfied with the rating I got though. I think its fair. I got a lot of positive comments and I'm glad people thought it was as funny as I did.
I don't spend 2 hours of my evening writing something like this just because I have some "name" that will get my lots of hollow "Gosu Dref" comments to raise my self esteem. I do it because its fun to me and people seem to enjoy it.
So in conclusion, if you don't like me report, fine. Maybe its not your style. Feel free to say so, I don't mind the constructive criticism. But don't blast other people for liking it. Everyone has their own unique tastes.

Oh don't get me wrong, I found your story humorous, especially so since I read a previous BR in which the writer stated that SCV rushes don't work (I think it was in the comment section, I'm not sure). And I'm not arguing the fact that your report doesn't have a right to be here on br.com. I was just kinda irked at the rating it got. As a humorous little tidbit, it does well. As a battle report, it just doesn't do anything for me.
And in case you're wondering, I only have three (count 'em) three battle reports on BR.com to date. The reason I haven't done more since is because I haven't been in a good enough game to report since then. Y'know, the kind that after you finish playing, your palms are sweaty and you shake a little because damn that was quite a game. Oh well, #4 will come to me sometime, hopefully. =)
No hard feelings tho. As I said, I like most of your reports. I'm just as they say, stating my opinion.

That's okay TT, no hard feelings. Like I said before, I respect all opinions and criticisms. You can't please everyone.
The main thing that bothered me about your comment and made me respond the way I did was when you started griping at other people and accusing them of giving me good comments just because of my "name".
This was meant to be a funny tidbit. There was no great strats, no bloody battles, but it was still a game of Starcraft, it was unique, funny, and therefore reportable in my book and quite a few other books if I read these comments correctly.
Anyways, sorry to go off on you with such a long post. I guess I just have a lot of time to kill this weekend :-)

Alexander, this is true, however, if I had failed, I wouldn't have had enough mins to build another SCV and I didn't know that he couldn't build anymore drones. From my point of view at the time, it was a better bet to do as much damage as I could and rebuild from the island where the lings couldn't reach me. :-)
Still wacky and dumb and the only reason it worked is because I found him immediately.

| If you were trying to damage him as much as possible, why not attack his spawning pool or hatch? I don't think SCV's have a prayer of killing zerg eggs before they hatch, and once they do the damage given is wasted. |

Like TerranTurtle, I have an opinion to post about the ratings that Drefsab receives. But I am on the opposite end. Just by glancing over the comments, and ignoring TerranTurtle's comments, this report should have gotten a 10. I read most reports that are rated 7+ and I like what I see and generally agree with the ratings. But, I believe that Drefsab suffers from what might be described as "Michael Jordan syndrome". Since he has posted so many reports, and weeks/months ago they were ground breaking reports in the comedy genre, and nobody had seen anything like them, he was getting 9's and 10's. I don't think the quality or the uniqueness of each report has decreased, but I haven't seen a report over 8 from him in some time. It's as if he has to create reports worth a 12 in order to get a 9. Each report is funny, novel, and well written. It's extremely easy to understand all of the action. I read some 8-9 reports and sometimes I'm not sure what is going on.
Maybe Mark4 et al can explain this to me, but it seems like TerranTurtle's opinion is the policy here on br.com. Now I'm not telling anyone how to run this site. But if you have to report on TT's idea of a great br game - i.e. bloody battles, no clear winner until the end - then maybe that should be posted, so that those who write funny/interesting reports won't be surprised at their low ratings. Or maybe battlereports should be split up into 2 groups: serious and funny.
If ratings are supposed to tell people about the *quality* of a br, then Dref's reports should all be 8-10. These are high quality shit. I can tell you that when I look at the new br's for the day, if I see a Drefsab report rated at 7 and a YRM or the.confessor report rated at 10, I read dref's first. Quickly followed by the 10 report. I enjoy "serious" reports just as much as funny reports - I really enjoyed Mark4's recent report about Arkons vs X_mage_X. That was a great report. But humorous reports have their place too.
To sum up: We love Dref. Not because he is a "Name", but his reports are consistently high quality and very funny. Keep up the good work Dref! |
