I have sined thrice in the past to days...

For I have walked upon the Unholy grounds of Big Game Hunters.

After looking around at my fellow nohunters companions, i was suddenly struck by the question of why we hated BGH so much. I decided to find out.

Having only played BGH once or twice, i quickly found myself a 3v3 (arguably the only map you can get a 3v3 on) and spent the next 45 mins cleaning out Zerg infestations and Protoss encampments. Afterwards, I chatted with my allies who had contributed somewhat to my win - i think they built a total of 12 lurks and 48 hydras combined, to my 64 marines, 24 medics, 12 tanks - not including replaced units.

They kept on saying I was God or something, the way I contained all the enemies at once while they tried to do something ???? that they tech to and only get the teeny armies they did out. At least they did better than our opponents.

The first toss was a joke - i took out his main line of defense, and then held the choke with M&Ms while my allies raised his base... That was pretty funny, I thought as I watched about 24 + zeals and goons get owned hard with a mere loss of 18 marines (way, way cost effective). I then saw about 12 more goons headed this way, and laughed maniacly as my allie's 7 hydras were healed by my medics.. easily owning the goon force.

The second opponent was a Zerg - this time, I decided to block off the one remaining player - so i expanded, and left M&M&T's at his choke, threw em on hold position, and went on to rape Zerg with a similar, if larger, force. This time, I yelled at my zerg allies to not send their hydras into the grinder of about 12 sunkens, but they did not listen, and managed to kill about 5 of them before they lost their hydras. I finished off the zerg defenses with my 8 tanks and the hydras cleaned up as i moved to seige the final toss.

The final toss was a joke - he had continually been trying to break out of my containment, and as such apparently lose all his units but his probes while i ignored him in favor of Zerg. I quickly attacked, only to find about 50 cannons!!! Well, needless to say, 8 tanks own 500 cannons, so this was easy. My allies again threw their entire hydra forces away, and i wonder where the Dark Swarm/lings are that could combat this.. but no, they are still at lair...

anyway, to make a long story short, i completely owned his cannons carelessly and he surrenederd, giving me a easy win.

It was very easy - far too easy, in fact. I was very happy I didnt have to tech beyond tanks for detection because of Overloards, and glad I had a competent clean-up crew (even if they were a bit useless). I now realise how sucky my allies were but oh well.

The second game really pissed me off, as one of my allies disconnected in the first five mins, and the second got owned hard by a 3v1 zeal rush. I owned his attacking force, but got owned by reinforcements shortly after. I then took my expansion and tried to attack, to no avail, as sadly a combined lurker/dt/zealling threat owned my base after nearly an entire hour of fighting. Needless to say, i was pissed.

The final game, which i played today, just shows how bad BGH makes you.

I went with the same build i had in the first game, and when i had my first few raxes up I realised that my toss allie had disconnected. I still had one, i said "gimme obs" he said "ok"

I built up an impressive force (48 rines and medics) and marched on Zerg. One lurker egg. It didn't die, i ran away, loosing only a medic and a marine.

So, naturally, I ask my allie...

"where obs?"

he says

"building.. why u want obs?"

"dts"

"what are dts?"

I'm like wtf,
"dark templar"

I'm like, f' this, so i quickly build comsat and begin teching to tanks/sci vessels. I get a comsat, see 4 lurks sitting around where i knew the 1 burrowed one was, and killed the burrowed one and all the others before they did hardly any damage. I ended up owning the entire base with only 18 marines lost (I'm beginning to see a pattern here).

I own zerg, i say,

"Now what?"

he says:

"obs sent"

I look over at his base, see a single small observer, 20 cannons, 2 goons and 3 dark templars.

I remeber thinking - God, I hope they don't attack him. I looked at his cannons, set up my tanks, and started owning the other two toss. The first one had a cople reavers and maganged to take out 3 of my tanks before I owned them. Had to blow my way through about 40 cannons to get to his nexus tho.

As I watched his buildings go boom, i decided to attack the second toss. Well, i'm owning his 90 cannons and here comes like 8 Carriers. Okay, I say to carriers, you sux. So, i moved my marine around my tanks, hold position, and laughed as the interceptors didn't even come close to owning my marines before they exploded. After I killed both toss, they surrendered, and the zerg too (impressed by me, no doubt, as not a single unit had left my allie's base besides that dark templar.)

I considered un-allying and teaching him a lesson, but decided it would be futile - he's just a cannon-building map hacking Toss BGH Wonder, after all.

Now I am unhappy with BGH, as I see what kind of 'skill' goes into 'expert' games. Ah well. 3v1 isn't fair for them i guess. Maybe I'll join one of those 4v1 games and take the cpu's place. who knows. But I don't really feel like it.. BGH as a map kicks major ass. BGH as the people who play it desevers to be ripped apart by the very bengellas who have to walk across it's accursed plains.
