-Start Battlereport-

The Dark Temple

     Meet The People

BB-Chargon  Protoss: 3:00: the main crop from your local funny farm. This guy is Certified Insane. He needs to use more common strats to win games, or he'll start winning all of his games. Duh.

IceD-Tree Protoss: 6:00: This guy wanted to be in a TheRubberDucky battlereport so bad, that he stayed up all night having me obs him own people so bad. He lost only once out of 7 games, along with another 4 way tie (I still think mark4 won that one though) Two of the games were against BB-Chargon. Also, he played an FFA where he got hold of a SCV, and was left alone with 7 islands for a long time. Here's what happened.

Spicoley Terran: 9:00: Normal old Terran strats, but can he pull it off in a Dark FFA?

I_Hate_Medics Terran: 12:00: Apparently, he hates medics. Why, I do not know. Probably the same reason that evil doctor turned me into a walking, talking, bath toy.

Let's Start this damn game!

After nearly 36 hours of careful deliberation over the title with three conflicting views, held by me, myself, and I, I begin to write this battlereport. Yay.

Each player begins with the rather boring behavior found in people who mine minerals rather than RUSH RUSH RUSH. They two races, (Not teams) had similar build orders. Both Terrans seemed to be going for a build order that would allow them to produce large amount of Psi-Storm fodder very quickly, while both protoss seemed to be going rather quickly for the spell that makes fodder out of terran infantry.

All the players continued making SCVs/Probes throughout the first 20 minutes of the game. (There was an SCV or a Probe building at anywhere on the map for the first 20 minutes atleast)  Both terrans had similar build orders, except right after his 3rd barracks was up, and he was pumping marines rallied to his choke, Spicoley decided to start on two barracks, simultaneously. They started up on Machine Shops and then vultures. White, the other terran, also had a factory, but was building a starport instead of a second factory. He was doing a very good job of keeping tabs on Blue, scouting him atlases 5 times, 4 times making it into the base before being probed. This upsetted BB-Chargon very much. After the starport in whites base was up, he put up a Control Tower, and expanded to the island to his left with an scv, 2 tanks, and 2 marines. Spicoley floated a already completed command center to his natural.

IceD-Tree was working on his Templar archives, and had a probe on the outer edge of the bottom left island building cannons. (On the low ground of the island) BB-Chargon now had a dragoon, and 2 zealots (0/1/1)  on his ledge, hoping to defend any drop. I_Hate_Medics dropped 1 wraith, 2 tanks, 3 scvs, 4 marines and 1 fryboy landed on the the ledge, easily removing the defenses. However, a reaver had just finished, and was dropped with a dragoon to try to stop it.  Both tanks and 2 infantry units were lost. Fortunately, a bunker adds +2 range to the marines, so they were able to destroy about 1/4th the probes at the expansion before 3 dragoons and a new reaver destroyed it.

IceD-Tree was defended against a Turbo Newbie, so that he wouldn't have the same problems that BB-Chargon did. He had 3 cannons, a shield battery, and a stargate on his ledge. Spicoley had 2 tanks next to his gas geyser at his natural, but that might not even be enough. Since he hadn't been in any conflicts yet, he expanded to his 2nd natural.

Blue, who just got recon with an observer for white's base, felt he could easily destroy it. 12 zealots 5 dragoons and 1 probe all  made their way up the terran ramp, where they met with 12 marines and 3 tanks, 2, unsieged. Thinking this was merely a social call, I_Hate_Medics called out "hi" only to be ripped to shreds by the psionic blades of the zealots. The attack completely destroyed white, leaving his base to be destroyed by a lone zealot.

Spicoley and Yellow, currently the most powerful forces on the map, could have easily run over BB-Chargon at any time. Instead they chose to fight. Spicoley now had both his naturals running smoothly, same for yellow, except he also had an island mining furiously.BB-Chargon was starting an expansion at White's old natural, rather than just taking his own 2nd natural. (Which would later be one of the most valuable resource nodes on the map) IceD-Tree had added several corsairs, now with Disruption Web to his army.

Furious that his attack was driven off by a much larger attack, Spicoley should have placed tanks on the cliff at his plateau that could hit the dragoons away from the expansion, making it easier to push him out of the base. Instead of doing that, 5 tanks, several marines and goliaths stopped just below the cliff that can drive dragoons away. At the same time, IceD-Tree sent several Dragoons and Zealots to where he thought blue's second natural was, but turned out it was empty, except for a BB-Chargon observer. Back at Yellow's second natural, Arclite fire began to tear down the nexus. Psionic Storm made fodder of the marines and most of the goliaths, but the remaining tanks and goliaths proved to out match yellow's forces there greatly, forcing the dragoons and zealots at blue's second natural to retreat.

Clicking back to the dragoons, IceD-Tree realized they were being attacked. BB-Chargon lightning was called down by the templar of both sides, but the reavers that BB-Chargon had easily destroyed the dragoons, leaving IceD-Tree without any army to speak of, and down 1 natural.

The tanks and golaiths tried to take yellow's natural, but dragoons and templar on the cliff weren't going to be completely put out of the game yet. The tanks were killed after many psionic storms, and took atleast 10 more dragoons with them.

BB-Chargon had been relatively quiet for the last 15 minutes, creating a Doom Drop to end all Doom Drops. Well, not really, but he did take both his 2nd natural and whites 2nd natural. He had 5 shuttles full of protoss goodness, and 4 corsairs attack Teal's 2nd natural, with distruption web over a tank, 2 bunkers and a turret for added safety.  Tanks from above ground and goliaths produced at the factory there easily destroyed the attack, but suffered losses of all the SCV's there. (which put him not mining minerals, until the CC's he had could produce more.

To coutner the attack, he sent a few tanks and goliaths to take out White's 2nd natural. Unfortunately, IceD-Tree also wanted to attack that, and had an observer there, so he was able to attack the tanks with a dark templar, until a Science Vessel was able to show up. Yellow's forces retreated, as soon as it was discovered that BB-Chargon actually wanted to defend his expansion, with 5 shuttles worth of uninvited guests. Spicoley also retreated, leaving BB-Chargon with no one to play with. The nexus remained at the expansion.

BB-Chargon wanted the island IceD-Tree currently held, even though it was empty. The photon cannons on the outside ring of the island were d-webbed. 4 shuttles came in, and invaded the expansion, while 3 0/0/1 IceD-Tree corsairs tried to hold of the superior numbers of 0/1/2 corsairs coming from blue. The fact that BB-Chargon also had dragoons on the ground didn't help.

After the expansion fell, IceD-Tree sent a lone Dark Templar to close the nexus at white's 2nd natural, it stood there for a few minutes, not attacking until 9 of teal's marines came over and did the same thing. The darktemplar attacked the nexus, kiling it, then killed all of the marines. At the same time, Spicoley had destroyed Blue's 2nd natural with his force of goliaths, tanks and marines, and was steadily working his way into white's natural, currently held by blue.

Let's take a short time out to look at what the minimap tells us.

As you can see, Spicoley is attacking white's natural, currently held by blue. If BB-Chargon loses that expansion, and Spicoley gets it, it could mean that Spicoley will win. However, Yellow's expansion has more resources, and has a larger army than teal, but teals tanks could still beat the dragoons if spread apart properly (To negate the effects of d-web)

However, the attack was discovered quickly, and BB-Chargon was able to    hold it off with troops from his main.

Spicoley and IceD-Tree, IceD-Tree who had the most mineral excess (almost 8k) expanded to the same spot, white's 2nd natural, previously held by blue.

Since Spicoley needed it more, he started mining at the same time the cc started, un aware that the nexus was warping right above it. IceD-Tree knew about the expansion, and decided to attack. Unfortunately so did Blue, and he attacked at the same time.

Now that he had been evicted from teals expansion,

IceD-Tree wanted revenge. His only expansion nearly mined out, and his excess minerals quickly running low, IceD-Tree sent all of his dragoons and templar to teal's expansion once again. He got there, and destroyed the expansion with ease. 12 zealots from BB-Chargon decided to attack the same expansion (What's with this delayed teaming stuff?) but instead tried to kill the Dragoon/Templar force, allowing the Command Center to escape.

     Almost instantaneously, just as

IceD-Tree was retreating back to his expansion to get himself back up to speed, and extract what is left that he can get, BB-Chargon attacks. Dragoons, archons, and templar all fought thier way over the center of the map, working their way down to yellows expansion, where a few final storms finally ended the onslaught of BB's troops.

      During this time,

Spicoley was able to set up the first *real* defense of the 12:00 mineral natural, by putting up several tanks and bunkers. They were spaced so that corsairs would not be able to d-web them all. This time also allowed BB-Chargon to reclaim his mineral natural, and finish mining out the other two bases he owned.  (12:00 natural and the top left island) The 2nd natural did not live long, for the bunkers/turrets owned by Spicoley covered that area, and easily destroyed the nexus. This meant that Spicoley had effectively put both BB-Chargon and IceD-Tree out of the game, unless they could defeat the bloackade together, or one of them came up with an amazing strategy to get through.  BB-Chargon started making many templar. We didn't know why though.

Yellow, who was effectively out of the game now, decided to just do funny things with his time. He tried once to expand to the 12:00 main, but that didn't work, as there was a spider mine there watching.

      The templar that

BB-Chargon had been making were doing something with a partner. They each grabbed a partners hand and started forming into those giant moth balls called Archons! 11 archons in all were morphed, who stood and waited while sairs d-webbed what they could trying to take out the Science Vessels looming over head so that emp would not be a major problem. All except 2 were killed. (One of them was stolen by Yellow)

      With his archons,

BB-Chargon attacked the expansion at his mineral natural, while IceD-Tree joined in the fray, with his last hope for victory on the line. Whoever won would be the winner of the game, because they alone would have adequate troops to take the other mineral source (12:00 main) remaining on the map, and eventually wipe out both players. (Who no doubtedly did not have many resources left) Psi storm crackled. Dark Templars swept through. Observers (The unit not me and LionLord) sent information packets furiously into their respective databases. The chaotic archons growled at the zealots and dragoons. Tanks sieged up. Defensive matrixs crackled. In the end, all that survived was a few BB-Chargon archons, templar, and dragoons. BB-Chargon had won,

Lessons Learned

1. Wow. Archons are totally cool, and they kill command centers fast.

2. I was totally convinced

Spicoley had won as soon as he had the tank/bunker combo protecting the top side of the map from any interference, yet BB-Chargon was still able to win, defeating all odds I had stacked against him.

3.

IceD-Tree played 7 games on this night. This was the only game he really lost. (I mentioned that earlier, but didn't tell you it was this game =])

4. Believe it or not, 5 45 minute sittings accomplished more than I've ever been able to do in past 4-6 hour sittings with a bag of pretzels and a Pepsi.

5. Archons are underused.

BB-Chargon used them quite a bit in this game, and it was a very large turning point in this game.

6.

IceD-Tree actually told me he was going to drop teal's main. If he had dropped teals main, he might have gotten him to leave, which would have given him more minerals to deal with (IceD-Tree had mind control) like the ones at the 12:00 main and mineral natural.

For the first time, I've remembered to plug the Space Station Omega site Supergeneral and I have been working on. (Mostly him though, but I'll have that damn humor section up soon =] )
