Túryc Valandil
-:VS:-

The Horde!
Valor of Valandil part I.
It was late spring. Turyc stood watching the birds building nests in a near tree.
It was so peaceful. The sun was shining over the small human encampment. The wind was still.
Everyone were enjoying the warm sunlight, except maybe for the guards on duty, who had to wear their armors. Behind him came Turycs old friend Olórin, who were a mage aspiring for archmage. They had met on the "Khayie Dei´man", School of magic. Turyc thought back on those times and wondered how it came that he ended up here.
Turyc was born on a small cluster of Islands called "The heavenly Isles", though they were not that heavenly, and also they were so small they almost could not be called isles. His father had died of unknown reasons, and his mother had left him shortly thereafter. It was rumored that his mother were elvish, but there were not any physical hints in him to that. Turyc was raised by a nice old woman who barely had enough food for both to eat, but still he had a good childhood.
When he was nineteen there came a man who said he was a paladin, but Turyc did´nt think he
looked like those paladins from the tales. The Paladin claimed that he saw great strength in Turyc, and that
if he would go to the nearby elven nation of Thómerions capital, Tielvo, where there was a Scool of Magic, he would
surely be powerful. After some consideration, turyc decided that he must repay his foster parent for all she had done for him. He would come back powerful and rich.
Events at the school did´nt turn out as he expected. Turyc accidently blew up an entire room, and barely survived. When he recovered he was transfered to farming, since he was good at that and they dared not let him go.
As the years passed by he got to know Olórin who tought Turyc secretly the ways of magic. Turyc learned fast, and he also spent alot of time at inns with officers and nobles, where he picked up superb strategy and tactics skills.
A few years later, the nation of Thómerion had found a remote island way out to sea. It was rumored that
somewhere buried on that island, lay the ancient relic "Lightdagger". But that was not the only reason they sent forces there, the island was also rich on resources and food.
A small force consisting of a few peasants, including Turyc, some knights and footmen, a couple of archers,
and the three leaders of the expidition: Olórin the mage, Lethdion the Ranger and Charmandalyn the Paladin.
After a long boat trip they landed on the shore and unloaded the supplies and equipment for their town hall.
Now after a week the base have grown to several farms, and some towers with blacksmiths and barracks working full time.
This perticular day was very quiet and since everyone was in such a good mood, nobody really worked hard.
Turyc stood with his lumber-axe by a fallen tree watching the birds as he heard Olórins voice behind him.
"Greetings Turyc," he said, "Assigned to lumber duty today huh?, you know you could fell those trees faster using your magic.." Turyc frowned, "You know I dont like using that, what if someone sees?" Olórin laughed, "You worry too much, who here would turn you in?" he said and patted Turycs shoulder, "Besides, if they do notice how good you are, they might promote you to mage aspirant." Turyc was about to answer when he saw Lethdion and Charmandalyn coming towards them.
"Olórin!" shouted the paladin, "What are you doing down here? you know your place is by the northern fortification
if there is an attack!" The mage looked at Charmandalyn, frowning. "Oh give it up Charmy, there are no one else but us on this island." Charmandalyn were about to reply but Lethdion cut in, "we dont know that Olórin, there is still the northern part unexplored." the light-eyed elf wrinkled his nose, "I have a bad feeling about this, something foul is near, I can feel it."
Charmandalyn nodded, but Olórin just laughed, "what would that be? you know that this place were kept secret?? do you think there´s a traitor??"
Olórin shrugged and looked back at the main base, peasants and soldiers were going around like a bunch of ants and it was a depressing thought that one of them would have sold us out. He thought about the dagger, it was said that it was made by the gods together, all the gods of light combined their powers.
Stories tell that they did this when one of the dark gods manifested himself on earth, and threatened to destroy the world.
And it is said that the gods cannot touch the world with their full strength, but the dark god managed it, and thus broke the laws of the creator of all.
But he was defeated by a dagger made by the combined strength of the light gods, and it was a simple human who did it.
A shriek broke the silence. They all spun around quickly and saw several huge dragons laying waste to the helpless soldiers.
Archers shot their bows, but balls of fire shot from the dragon´s mouths burned them to cinders. To the north of the base they could hear the clashing of steel vs steel and shouts from men dying. They were just about to return to base to help out when over the treetops behind them three more dragons appeared.
One was hit in its left eye by an arrow from Lethdion, and fled, and the other turned instantly to a helpless sheep, laying confused on the ground, curtsy of Olórin.
The third was left though, and it threw a gigantic ball of fire from its dedly gap. Turyc and the paladin was able to avoid it, but Lethdion was hurt badly and lay screaming on the ground, with clothes on fire.
Turyc froze, he knew he should do something but he suddenly could´nt remember the spells!! He saw Olórin opening the skies with a huge blizzard that poured ice onto the dragon,
but it was not enough. He snatched up Lethdions bow from the ground and aimed for the dragons soft belly.
Olóring saw him and quickly said something in elvish, and the arrow started burning. The arrow left the bow and hit the dragon deep and critically in his stomach. Hurt badly the dragon had to land, where he met his doom in Charmandalyns warhammer.
When they had calmed down they looked back at the encampment, where the horde now were destroying everything in sight.
Turyc saw someone that must´ve been their leader among the numerous orcs, a pitch-black death-knight with a long red staff throwing spells upon the defenceless peons.
Charmandalyn were down on the ground, healing Lethdion, when Olóring saw the small cluster of peons milling down by the docks.
"Hey guys!" shouted Olórin, "there are transports waiting by the docks, we can flee in those!"
Charmandalyn snarled, "never! i´d rather die than flee like some coward!" he stood up in anger and weiged his battleaxe in his hands. But even he changed his mind when the orcs turned their attention, and came running at them, wielding huge deformed blades, screaming.
They ran down to the waiting transports where peons were busy unloading various resources yet unused. "Hey! stop that!" Turyc shouted. "We need those things for survival, if we´re gonna have a chance in hell to retake this island!"
Olórin looked at him, puzzled. "What do you mean, what are you gonna do?"
Turyc looked back at the slaughter, "Retake this island and find the artifact, alone or not."
Charmandalyns face lit up, "Yes, thats it. I know a small island just outside here, we can rebuild there and send for reinforcements from the mainland."
Turyc nodded, "Good, now lets get out of here, Olórin, would you please make us invisible to prevent being followed and sunk?"
Olórin looked tired, but zealous, "On the way" he responded and they were soon gone.
Alone back at the docks stood one lonely peon. He had loosened the ropes that held the four overloaded transports, and in the rush to flee, he had been left behind.
He kicked at some leftover timber-logs, then looked at the charging horde. "I´d rather be sailing" he said and charged with his wood-axe.

Ok!
Those of you who have made it this far, let me just point out that there is no need to comment on my spelling and my grammar, cuz´ english is not my native language and I suck and it. Also, this is my first fiction ever, so there will be many mistakes and poor quality, but I intend to write more, and hopefully I will improve.. Bear with me..
Also, this was a kind of Prologue, so in the next chapter there will be more action and more Warcrafting!!
Coming Up in next chapter:
The rebuilding of the base, and the first counter attack on the horde.
Cheers,
Von Doom
