There's something with the channel nohunters: sometimes there's a heated discussion(usually with all the guys who can only talk of winning strategies, including me), or there is graveyard silence. you can sit there fascinated for 20 minutes without seeing more than 20 words flicker across you screen. at times like that i hit the join button and go on the look for public games. on that particular night i saw one saying "blood bath JOIN!!!!". i actually like bb, and there was no easy win or 6v1 in the title, so i joined. i found some guy named {sk}giddeon, who i will just call gid. he was the only one, and after no one else joined we started our 1v1, with him chosing the almighty random swarm, and me leaving my race to the fate by choosing zerg. everything unclear? good.

but seriously, i chose zerg and started off in the SE corner. first i sent my ovie to find him, scouting counterclockwise. i got a pool on 5 and then 2 more drones by now my ovie had reached NE and it was empty. at this point giddeon told me that he had made a mistake; he had built his first pylon too far from his nexus. making cannon cover less effective.

as my pool finished, i spawned 6 lings...ummmmm, that is, i hit the wrong button and spawned three drones. DAMN! cancelling them would not give me back the larvae, so i decided to keep them and get 2 sunkens instead of 6 lings for d. i also ordered up an overlord.

my original poo-balloon was at the moment hovering over his base in the NW, casting a vile shadow -not to mention smelly gases- unto the protoss encampment, which so far consisted of 2 gates, 3 pylons in a row below them and a nexus. seeing the 2 gates as well as 4 zealots, i decided to get a third sunken at home, while ordering my 2nd ol into the centre. a wise decision, since he chose this moment to attack.

his zealots appeared on the horizon just as my third sunken finished. i also had about 8 lings at home. between lings and sunkens, his attack was doomed, but still managed to take down one of the sunkens. i started a 2nd hatch in my base, and got an extractor.

time for harassment! 8 lings were send out, split into two groups, to make these sluggish zealots pay for their laziness. but alas, there were again 4 zealots, and i was not the only one who could split my troops. in fact, his warpblades split them better than my mouse clicks.

seeing that i approach 100 gas, and my second hatch is almost done, i order up burrow. a short while after that, i get ling speed.

And now the fun really starts! My lings race into his base, divided into 2 groups of 4. One rushes to his probes, the other tackles the outermost gateway. When he uses his zealots to defend his probes, my lings burrow. he sends some of his zealots after the second group, but they burrow. Now the first group unburrows and starts hacking away at the probes. At this point I see aomething I did not like very much: a forge. he tries to warp in a cannon between nexus and gateways. One of my ling groups sacrifices itself to kill it, but they die to multiple zeals. During this, I started up a hydra den and a lair at home, as well as a third hatch at the NE base and one evo-chamber at home , which immediately researched missile attack.

Ling reinforcements have meanwhile harassed him so much that he goes cannon crazy, creeping them to his choke, ehich he seals off with 6 of those little buggers. BUT:you can't build in the centre of blood bath. He did, however, have a large zealots force at his disposal, which he promptly showed off in an attack on my main. 10 zealots passed by 3 burrowed hydras and run into 3 sunkens, 12 lings and 4 hydras, while the 3 hydras fall into their back. The attack is repelled with minimum losses, with lings keeping his men from attacking anything valuable, and the hydras and sunkens dishing out damage. Research on the lurker aspect finishes just as the last zealous warrior expires, and I morph 4 of my hydras to lurkers, which are moved into the centre to contain him. I also send a single ling to the SW and burrow it there. No expansion for this guy!

I recognize that I'm not gonna break through 6 cannons without guardians or loosing a shitload of troops. Personally, I hate guardians. They cost GAS, they need high tech, and they die to too many unit types much too fast. But defilers' dark swarm is penetrated by reavers, which were something I had to reckon with.

A queen's nest and a spire started simultaneously in my main, with the nest finishing way ahead, and the hive starting immediatley. When the spire finally was done, I ordered up 4 mutalisks, and waited.

Suddenly I get an attack message: a reaver is attacking my lurkers! I move the overlord closer to the cannons and find an observer, but I can't attack it because of said cannons' fire. I exhume my last two lurkers and move them back a bit.
Now his observer can't spot them without entering hydra range >:)

But that will only last until he gets enough reavers to finish off my hydras. I might need a bit more of them just for safety, so I morph 8 new ones, bringing the total to 12 speed-upped hydras with +1 attack.

My hive is done, and the greater spire begins I start saving gas for the 4 guardians, but not before I morph one more muta. Now my ling forces get beefed up, and about 16 more of the little rascals join my troops.

FINALLY! My guardians -all 4 of them- have finished morphing and I start pounding on the choke cannons, cutting through them like hot butter through a knife (is there something subtly wrong with that mteaphor?). 2 goons of his show up, but are no match for the force of by now *gasp* FIVE guardians. He also wastes his single reaver on my lings, which have now joined the atack. He kills about a dozen, but my guardians' acid spores finally turn the maggot into a ball of blue fire.

His base was heavily cannoned, and a fleet beacon warped in just as my hydras arrived. Guess what. A carrier rush. With no expansion and me having 12 hydras.

He evac'ed the base and started an expansion at SW, right at my ling. But I was ready to ally him, so we parted on good terms and with a draw.

BTW, this game was not as ownage as it sounds. I always had to rely on my sunkens to protect me from his zealot numbers, and that reaver could have wrecked me. His greatest fault was going cannon crazy and then carrier. Goon-reaver would have done it a lot better.

Lessons learned:
-don't spawn 3 drones when you want lings
-never carrier on bb. there's just not enough resources.
-burrow is a very useful tool of harassment, if used properly. it had him totally off balanced, and shocked him into wasting money on all those cannons.
-guardians aren't that bad, since all you need is like 4 of them. spread them out if he might have storm!

Complaints please to YRM@battlereports.com, who won't know what to do with them and will throw them into the waste basket. Critique is always welcome with me. ;-)
