"there was a rather large thread, devoted to the unveiling of Blizzard's plans for Starcraft 2.
"Neat," I thought to myself, "I'll probably have to check that out when it gets released."
Then, as I thought about it a little bit more, I began to realize the significance of a sequel to the best video game ever made, and promptly orgasmed all over my keyboard."

The Phurrie, Chapter 3

Act 1-The Solaris

Syltin drifted, deep in thought, across the vast cosmos of space. His entire being consisted of pure flame, a type of living fire born to those of his kind, the Solaris. His mind was pondering upon what resistance the Protoss could provide the Spectrum, as he had overseen many Protoss bases and knew their military limitations, but they could have the
relic...

Syltin looked at his vast army, the Solarain Spectrum. Hundreds of bright blue creatures swarmed the planet, allowing nothing to get out Demitis Prime alive. Syltin smirked that the other races relied so much upon their ‘great’ technology to carry their species from system to system, whereas the Solarains were made completely of ‘pure flame’, giving them the ability to sustain life with only soloar energy, to move at the speed of light, to cross the stars without the aid of a spaceships and to communcate telapathicly. At moments where they were too injured to enable life, a Solarain can then ‘bolden’, morph, into a pure metallic creature that no longer requires the need of a constant energy supply. A downfall to being completely made of living fire is the necessity of a constant source of
energy, a rejuvenator or a star. A rejuvenator is the only artifact that gives the Solarians the gift of life. They must always be around one in their ‘pure flame’ state.

Syltin commanded the Spectrum to have the first wave bolden and prepare for the assault. The plan was for the first group to set up a perimeter of rejuvenators to supply the stronger pure flame Solarians with much needed energy. Fierans, the basic infantry of the Solrains, would smash through the zealots with ease allowing Phasers, a stronger and ranged fighter, to do the main damage to the Protoss base. This will demonstrate the power of the Solarian Spectrum to the noble Protoss, Syltin mused. Their thoughts to one another traveled at the speed of light, allowing for nearly instant communications, another one of the many gifts of being pure flame. Syltin pondered if his long search for the relic would end here on Demitis. For he knew that the relic was required in order to save his people during the dire time of the reckoning.

“Prepare the Spectrum to decimate the Protoss Tribes. We leave when the relic is found or everyone is dead. After this, send out the obtainers to harvest the solar energy to fuel my war engine,” he ordered. Syltin checked the last few Rays to see if there were ready to assail Demitis.

Act 2-Trail of the Stars

Sirens blared loudly as Castallas hurried to the stargate holding ‘Silencer’, her modified Scout. She had entered the A.F.A., Air Force of Aiur, as her body yearned for the skies, after completing her infantry training, not able to become a High Templar yet because she was too young. Cast ran to her Scout with haste, her long legs getting her there quickly. She had recently taken the Trail of the Stars, a test all Protoss do at the age of 19 to see if they should be accepted into the A.F.A..

Arriving at the stargate holding ‘Silencer’, she admired her gorgeous ship. It was made of the finest metal in all of Aiur, a deep yellow color that contrasted with the blue markings of her flight wing. She slid into the cockpit, slowly wishing good luck to Jisix, her best friend and wing man.

“You ready for this?” asked Jisix sensitively as he himself got into ‘Defender’.

“I will not let you down, Jix,” Castallas said impatiently while she fired up Silencer’s engines and toggled on the correct missile guidance system. She wanted to engage in real combat so bad she could taste it. Silencer slowly lifted off Demitis’ landscape and flew into formation along with the dozen or so other Scouts. The squadron’s main objective was to blow a hole into the Aliens’ blockade so that Shuttles could pour through, getting the people of Demitits off this doomed rock.

Silencer ripped through the atmosphere at supersonic speeds, heading towards the blockade. Defender glided up to her flank, ready to engage the invaders visciously. The Scout pilots all shared ‘good lucks’ and started to concentrate deeply on the battle to come.

As the group of Scouts flew into space, a small contingent of aliens headed to their postion. The Aliens’ ships looked like they were made entirely of fire! How to kill such a thing? The lead Scouts launched a barrage of Antimatter missiles towards the strange fire like vessels. The projectiles exploded upon there fiery hulls appearing to do very little damage.

“How do we kill these damn things?” barked Jisix over the Protoss mental link. Castallas ordered her squadron to break formation and take evasive action to avoid the counterattack. The Scouts scattered as the flaming alien ships shot volleys of blazingspheres to the scouts. Two yellow protoss ships were slammed by blue flame in the crossfire. A cry escaped over the psionic link as the pair exploded into space debris.

“We have to separate; the Aliens’ rounds splash off of each other. Try to make them fight you one on one. . Attempt to get them to split up and take the loners down.” Cast prayed silently that their weapons could do enough damage to kill the bizarre invaders.

Act 3-Our Lives For Aiur

Alfarie put on her battle armor and stared at a picture of her beloved daughter. Castallas just completed the Trial of the Stars, top of her class. Cast’s future was nearly limitless; she could do virtually anything she desired with her keen mind. The Protoss warrior smiled benevolently at her child’s picture. Whatever Castallas did, she did it better then anyone. She had gained her psionic powers later then all the other Protoss kids, but when they arrived they surpassed even the mightiest Templar. A small meeting amongst Alfaire and the highest in the conclave happened when Castallas was only 5; they wanted to kill her. The overprotective conclave suspected she would get as powerful as she was today, and she may become a threat to the galaxy. Alfarie was able to persuade them to let her live. She promised her little Castallas that nothing would hurt her, ever. A disturbing message disrupted Alfarie’s reflection upon Cast’s childhood.

“The Invaders have made landfall and are marching to Demitis City, THEY MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO REACH THE CITY ALIVE!!!” the loudspeaker blared, throughout the Templar archives. Alfarie sighed as she finish equipping herself. Maybe today I will see the gods? Alfarie’s thoughts were not positive. She opened the door to the main hall and made her way to Photon Cannon web, the point of first contact. The former Zealot strode down the corridor, running into a dozen other High Templars.

“This way Alfarie, we must meet our brothers at Telys Canyon.” The elder warrior exited the archives along with the others. The contingent of Templar floated hastily to the rally point; they had to reach it before the Aliens did. The desert landscape of Demitis made their small journey much more difficult then it had to be. Demitis’ winds constantly battered their faces as they finally reached Telys Canyon. Pyrothairs should be there already thought
Alfarie.
The Canyon was a massive split on the face of Demitis. The Invaders were trying to lessen the time upon reaching Demitis City by walking through Teyls, and the sons of Aiur were going to make them pay for their laziness.

“Into position my friends,” commanded the leader of the Templar, Dalafas. Six High Templar made there way to Teyls’ highest point, Death Drop. The warriors of the Khala were going to use the high ground to their upmost advantage. The remaining Templar scattered themselves amongst the various crevasses. Pyrothairs sneaked up behind Alfarie.

“Careful, my dear,” warned Pyrotharis gently as he set himself up by Alfarie. Alfarie loved him so. One day she secretly planed on doing the ultimate thing two templar could do to prove their love, becoming a mighty Archon. Then no force in this galaxy could separate her from her beloved. Thinking back to the present, Alfarie deeply concentrated on her Psionic powers. She knew she would have to unleash the full fury of her people today.

“Be ready, my brothers,” Dalafas, the oldest of the templar, cautioned. Suddenly large creatures were moving north on the bottom of the canyon. They were made completely of metal. There massive bodies crushed everything that stood in their path. These Aliens looked powerful indeed.

“Now, my brethren,” Dalafas ordered. As one all the High Templar rose to there full height and screamed their battle call. The very sky was ripped apart by the might of the Protoss. Gigantic bolts of Psionic lightning crashed down the canyon towards the unsuspecting Aliens. Hundreds of bolts of pure Psionic power smashed into the invaders lines. The metal titans were shredded by the ferocity of the High Templars. The Aliens were unabated by this incredible display of power; they continued to pour into the canyons by the thousands. The Templar were also relentless in there destruction of the Invaders, Psi Storm after Psi Storm torn into the Aliens.

After 6 minutes of the onslaught, the Templar fell to their knees in exhaustion with the invaders numbers more than halved. Alfarie and a few others struggled up to there feet heading back to fight with there brothers and sisters at the city.

Act 4-Retalition

Syltin observed the battle in the canyon from the safety of space. He was amazed at what only a few Protoss could do to the Spectrum. The mind lighting devastated his army. He was appalled at the ineffectiveness of his troops. He thought that if his soldiers only had Elementals then the outcome would have been different. Syltan sighed. Maybe next time. He still had a mighty task ahead; he needed to clense this planet from all Protoss presence and apparently a few of them were trying to escape in sector 47. He could not let a single Protoss leave Demitis, alive or dead. If those ships broke through his blockade, all would be lost. They would alert the other empires of the Solarians, and Syltin loved the element of surprise. Syltin commanded 3 Novas and 1 Sola to cwell the uprising in sector 47. The massive beings of living flame headed over to kill any resistance. Syltin used three main types of ‘pure flame’ creatures for space combat: Novas, the smaller lighter ships, Solas, which are used to assassinate capital ships, and Tritins, the strongest Solarin ships. Syltin knew the space battle would be his. The more urgent conflict was on land. The magic using Protoss decimated thousands of pure flames, and they didn’t even engage in combat! He needed his troops to burn the capital to the ground and fast. He ordered another legion to aid the Rays that had already landed. The first group was extremely successful in setting up rejuvenators along the battle path so Syltins soldiers could stay in the pure flame form and not be forced to bolden.

Syltin relaxed a little as the next wave of Solarians assailed Demitis.

Act 5- All for the Empire

Castallas cut sharply to the right as another Scout was obliterated by flames. The Scout squadron was more then halved by the Alien force. Castallas brushed her golden hair out of her face as she fired yet another salvo of Antimatter missiles at her metallic target. Even with all the causalities the Protoss took, not single invader had been slain! The only possible sign that damage to the Aliens was committed was their sudden change from flame to metal. Not that the this metamorphosis had any effect on the enemies’ desire to fight. Jisix was the only other Scout able to keep up with Silencer as they weaved in and out of formation together struggling to stay alive. Cast met Jix at the A.F.A. They had been in the same class, and he had needed a flight partner since his friends were a year behind him. No one wanted to be with the human so he just thought he’d be crazy and ask her. Cast readily agreed for she was in dire need of somebody to help her. Ever since they graduated from the academy they did virtually everything together.

The strange dreams persisted every night after she observed the meeting between Alfarie and the Praetor. Always the same, always asking her to come to them, to save them. She would certainly try if she every knew who or what was saying it!

“Be careful; we are vulnerable together. SOMEONE needs to be alive to escort the shuttles out of this cursed system,” screamed Cast over the com as a group of metal demons descended on her and Jisix who avoided them admirable skill. The metal creatures bolted ahead of the two Scout pilots who simultaneously shot a pair of Antimatter missiles which bounced harmlessly off the metallic monsters.

“Can we even kill them? I haven’t seen us do anything miraculous out here except kill off our friends...” Jisix sobbed into the com. He had many friends on this particular battle. That fact reminded Cast of her beloved friend Alfarie who now must be in a hopeless battle on the ground. Castallas would be destroyed if Alfarie or Pyrotharis died down there.

After a particular nasty skirmish, two of the smaller metal creatures blasted the remaining Scout, leaving only Defender and Silencer to wage their horrible war. A message flashed over the intercom: “Scout group, we are loading the shuttles now. Prepare to see to their safety until they reach the great glow of Aiur.” The comlink blinked off.

“How the he-” Jisix was cut short by the massive explosion behind them. Suddenly all the Aliens left the Scouts alone and headed to the noise.

“Now what?”

Act 6- Invasion

Alfarie darted past the sand dunes with frighting speed. She hurried to the base, hoping to beat the invaders. Pyrothairs followed her quickly, attempting to keep up with her. They both had fled the canyon, knowing that staying was certain death since the storms revealed their presence. They hoped to get back tot he city in time to fortify it from this very unexpected invasion. Why did these things attack us? Alfarie thought as she scrambled to Demitis.

“After the city falls, make your way to the shuttles,” Pyrotharis said unconfidently.

“I wonder who gave them our position?” Alfarie said suspiciously. She looked at Pyrotharis, stopping her march to Demitis.

“What?” A very confused look came across his face.

“Well these new invaders did manage to attack at the moment our conclave happened to be here...” She trailed off staring at Pyrothairs.

“You make a good point, my sweet,” He demanded heatedly.

“Just keep that on your mind. We should find out who did do it,” She once again headed to Demitis. The third templar bowed his head as he walked toward the city.

Alfarie looked to the sky in vain, hopeing that her worst fear would never come to bear.

Act 7-Dark Fate

The sand blew on the gates of Demitis as the three cloaked figures walked
to main
nexus. One of the creatures slashed the door making a new entrance into
Demitis’s Capital
building. The other two followed him silently, moving with a stealth only
years of living in
darkness could provide. They knew their objective, and even life itself
would be worth the
cost of its completion. The figures made their way past many of the city
guards being
completely unseen by even the most cunning high Templar. Secretly the trio
moved from
room to room slowly but steadily reaching their goal. For over a millennium
they have
waited for this, their people wrongly banished. Their people were even so
noble the official
government denied the objective. The Conclave shall die this night,
determined the leader of
the three. They barely bypassed another defense system, knowing at the
slightest sign of
detection there lives would be exstinguised.
“Here,” the lead assassin said as he opened the giant metal door. The
Conclave sat
around a table apparently discussing the invasion by the Aliens, the perfect
cover for the
silent killers. What, the lead assassin thought; The Aliens were supposed
to have attacked
only mere moments ago, but instead they had been blockading the planet for
days. He shook
his head. It didn’t matter. He could figure out what had gone wrong later.
Still the Protoss
were preoccupied like their agent had promised.
The three killers entered the room cautiously and systematically excuted
each of the
leaders of the Khala.

Act 8-Fight or Flight

The Protoss lines took a beating as the Aliens flooded into the city. The giant flaming creatures crushed the smaller Protoss infantry with relative ease. The few remaining Templar in the city were the main reason the Demitis wasn't instantly defeated. Alfarie rallied with Pyrotharis by a Photon Cannon and a pack of Zealots.

The great Aliens made a straight path down the main street of the city, slaying anything in their path. The last bastion of Protoss resistance was around the Nexus;
apparently the Invaders overlooked or didn’t see Alfarie and her Allies. Any Alien soldier that attempted to kill Alfaire was cut down in seconds by Psi Assault or Psi Blades.

“The Aliens have allowed our Scouts to create a opening for our Shuttles. All surviving warriors make your way to rally point Centra, be car-” The loudspeaker was cut unnaturally short as another pylon errupted. The small group of survivors ran to the rally point where the Shuttles were, for evace. As they made they way to Centa a large creature of fire stood. the Zealots rushed to kill but were cut down by flames. Alfarie Rasied her hands to Psi assualt it but it whipped her with fire too, knocking her to the ground. Pyrotharis looked at his beloved Alfarie. She was uncounsiens. Now, it was time, her thought. He clicked the botten at his wrist, a bright blue blade riped through his
templar armor, his body moved faster then a bengalaas as he mercilsy strike Alfaris assalnent. The blue giant exploded in blue fire as Pyrotharis’s weapon sliced him in half. Alfarie got to her feet wondering what had happened. Pyro assured her it was ok and they once again headed to the rally point. Centra was defended by a lone duo of reavers who blasted any Aliens that dared to come into fireing range. The machines, alerted by the new presence, realized they were Protoss and went back to defending the shuttles.

“The Reavers will cover us. Hurry to a shuttle. See you at Aiur and good luck,” Pyrotharis said to Alfarie, she limped slowly to a shuttle as the Reavers went up in metal shards and flames. Pyrotharis knew that the Shuttles were out of time.

Act 9-Pyrotharis

Syltin floated down to the dusty surface of Demitis to see his captive. Apparently the highest Protoss warriors escaped alive, thanks to the cursed swarm. Syltin was fascinated at how alike he was with his Zerg enemy. They both were ran by one creator, the overmind and Syltin. Unlike the swarm, Syltin was the sole ruler. He used no underlings but preferred to command his troops himself. Like the overmind, his troops bowed to his every whim. Syltin always made a direct link to each of his servants when they were born. Syltin had many levels of attention, one for everything under his control. He was so multitasked he could control a whole battle and still be readying his troops halfway across the galaxy for the reckoning. Sometime, when it happens, he will get another one like himself. He was in need of a companion. Syltin came across the captive.

“You gave your life so the other Shuttles could escape. How very noble,” Syltin commented as he looked over the Templar. The Templar just sat there in silence.

“You will be a great asset to the Spectrum. We must learn how you summon the lightning, and you also know where the relic is, do you not?” The Protoss fingered a small pendent at his throat. Syltin smiled a devilish grin as he ordered them to return to Solaris with their prize.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Act 10-For the Swarm?!?
“Why are they leaving us?” asked Castallas as she agily glided Silencer to meet up with the Shuttles departing to Aiur.
“They got bigger problems then us now,” Jisix lined Defender up to her rear as he looked back at the Aliens and the Zerg swarm in the process of a fierce battle. The pilots were completely drained. Jisix shut his eyes for a moment while he repeated all of his friends names that were lost. Memories of his childhood busted into him, and Defender flew off path for a second.
“Stay focused, honey,” Castallas said sweetly to her friend, attempting to raise his obviously downed spirits. She would do that he thought cynical, fake affection to keep him alive. The only task remaining was to get the Shuttles to Aiur safely and away from this cursed planet. The two scouts drifted slowly to Demitis to meet up with the shuttles.
Jisix moaned softly at his loss, so many friends...Never again...Never again....
Last Act-The Phurrie
The being observed the whole ordeal between the 3 empires of the Astral Galaxy. The civil war will be their downfall. The Being knew that this relic that the flamer spoke of would be very important. It must be destroyed. The creature analyzed the situation: The protoss warring with their own kind, the Zerg swarms on its never ending quest to be perfect and rule the galaxy forever, and the Solaris, the only race that has any idea of the fate of Astral, attempting to prepare their Galaxy for the ultimate test and the human girl whose Psionic powers were greater then anything the universe has ever known. She must also be eliminated.
The being created a blue rift in time as he returned to his haven to plan his next move.
