A few weeks ago Bogalisk and I had played a match on lost temple. We went back and forth over a long game, mostly me going back and Bogalisk going forth =[. In the end, bog had owned me, and I was left with some valuable lessons about reavers and zerglings, and a burning desire for revenge.

We had been missing each other on battle.net due to server
splits. Last night I got a chalenge from a player styling
themselves as "vanillaice". This player had challenged me
a few days ago also, but I was about to play a 2v2 nohunters league game so I had declined. I accepted the challenge this time. It wasn't until the end of the game that my suspicions that this was bogalisk were confirmed.

When I was challenged, I asked for dire as the map as my island has been getting rusty. Bog claimed to be better than zileas at islands right away...just kidding (he said I'd probably say that in the battle report, so there it is =]). Bog reluctantly agreed, and we started the game. I selected protoss while Bog went with his traditional zerg. I took the top right and he got the top left islands.

My build went for a dual tech to reavers and templar. I
researched psi storm as soon as I could and scouted with my
shuttle, dropping off a probe on the island between our bases. My reaver drop was in progress, and my first templar made when I realized Bogalisk's plan. He went hard mutas, putting six in my probe line right as my reaver dropped. My build order is fast enough I had never faced anyone able to do that before. I had no cannons up and my lone templar was killed before he could get off a storm. I warped in two cannons in the lower part of my base, then ran my probes away. Bog had put the mutas on hold position and left them to do thier damage. I ordered up two more templar, glad that half my probes were now safe next to the cannons. I
thought the game was probably over, but decided to try to even it up. My first templar stormed three mutas right as the second one emerged. The mutas died because they were on hold position. Then I formed an archon and chased the other mutas off.

I was in a bad position, having lost some probes and mining time. Fortunately I had rebuilt five probes even while being assaulted by the mutas and hid them next to my cannons. Also, my reaver drop had gone off. I had gotten a fair amount of drones before the reaver died to two mutas, and the shuttle had escaped. So, I wasn't hurting as bad as I thought. The archon had to be shuttled around the perimeter a bit to deal with muta harrassment, but a
few cannons quickly protected me from that. I still felt behind and went with a few more templar. I also expanded to the lower middle island, it was the most out of the way small island I knew. I knew that I had to get some air poer too, so I started a stargate and corsair production.

Bogalisk's next move was a two pronged attack. He morphed his remaining mutas to guardians in back of my base near the probe line, while coming in the left side with a 24 zergling drop. I saw the drop coming and used a templar to kill most of the zerglings at the cost of its life. I sent my three shiny new corsairs to kill the guardians, which they did with the help of a few psi storms. I did lose about half my probes, my archon, and a dragoon.

Bogalisk kept up the harrassment with zergling drops. I developed a strategy to deal with this. I would send in the corsairs right as he dropped, chasing away or killing the overlords, then use my dark templar to get free zergling kills. I got three drops as freebies before Bog gave up on this. Bog then went with a hydra drop and another guardian strike. My corsairs went to the guardians, getting torn up by the hydras as they flew to the threat. A few scourge also took thier toll on the the corsairs, but fortunately about eight scourge all went for only two corsairs, leaving four to kill the guardians. My frontal defense of twelve templar turned the field blue with lightning, killing
the drop whie losing only two of thier number. I believe it was twelve hydras and eight zerglings. Again I had lost about half my probes, but my main was almost mined out anyway. I expanded to the island just below my main to increase my resources.

I needed to regain the momentum in this game. Bog found my new expansion as the last of ten or so cannons warped in, killing his exploring scourge. He commented that the game was probably over now, but he'd keep trying. I decided my next move would be to eliminate the scourge threat and then drop him. I hallucinated 24 corsairs and sent them into his main. Once the scourge wasted themselves, and seeing he had little air defense, I sent in the eight real corsairs to harrass him. I also dropped two reavers and four templar after this action was done. He had expanded once to the island below him. Bog managed to kill both reavers, but
this left him with little to defend against the four templar. I stormed everything in sight and morphed them into archons. When the archons warped he paused the game and admitted who he was. He then surrendered.

I told him I knew I was being smurfed, and I had allready
supsected it to be him. He had gone with a 1.03 island zerg
strat, and I knew Bog had not played islands in a long time. Also, he wanted the match a little too bad to not be someone who I knew. Whe he told me he owed me a rematch I figured out the rest =].

Lessons learned:

o Quick mutas gave him a clean opening in my strat. I need to modify my build for a quicker second templar, maybe by
sacrificing the psi research until later.

o I had the money for cannons earlier. Only laziness had stopped me from doing the right thing and protecting my probe line like I should have.

o Bog is a worthy adversary. I much appreciated his giving me the rematch, and having the character to reveal who he was even though he lost.

o Corsairs are so versatile on islands its not even funny.
