| Toss vs Terran: Imbalanced? Example Game 1 | | | Author: | | | IP: | XXXX | | Date: | 09/11/99 07:09 | | Game Type: | Starcraft | | Labels: | none | | Report Rating: , # of Ratings: 3, Max: 6, Min: 4 Lifetime Rating for Mantra!!!: 5.3333 | | This is the first battlereport in a series I plan on doing on Protoss vs Terran. The main reason I am doing so is that this matchup is considered by many people imbalanced in varying degrees. I hope to demonstrate the proper way to play both races on Lost Temple, (Which I chose because it is the predominent favorite for 1on1.)
First Example Game: Me (Mantra!!!) VS A5-Ssibangse.
This match was played on Kali 2 days ago.
The map, of course, is Lost Temple
I start off as Protoss at 9:00, A5-Ssibangse (who, as ghost stated in an earlier report, is a very cool guy) started as Terran at 6:00.
The reason I chose this game was because A5-Ssibangse used the terran very well (with one tiny mistake which cost him the game, i'll get to that.) And I used protoss very well to counter him, so to start off my series I thought this would be a good game.
I do a 8 pylon gateway gateway pylon assim build order, unsure what to do right away. My scout discovers that A5-Ssibangse has walled in with 2 depots and a barracks. He did this so that my probe could not get into his base, and wa skilled by the guarding marines.
Thinking he must have been powering, I made only 1-2 zealots and shot straight up to dragoons. Quckly making 5 of them, i set them near his choke. Sending in another scout, I still saw no signs of an offensive attack, So i took this time to expand. Normally this is far too early to safely expand, but I felt it was worth the risk in this case due to the fact that he would have trouble mobilizing his atatck force due to his wall in.
Getting a couple cannons and adding more gateways, I continued to make dragoons, well adding a citidel/templair archives. Ssibangse at this time made his first atatck. Taking a dozen vultures with the speed upgrade, he went past all my cannons, losing 4, and into my probe line, doing very heavy damage. Before his vultures died, he also had mines laid all over my main.
I attempted to counter, but he had a solid defence of tanks and his bunker, so I backed off. At this time I expanded a second time to the all mineral spot near my natural, and made a robotics facility. I also had begun creating high templairs in addition to my dragoons, (which at this point were 1-0-0 and almost 1-1-0).
A5-Ssibangse at this time expanded to his natural. He had very well positioned tanks, lots of vultures, and a few turrets, and I deemed myself unable to penetrate it. Instead I expanded again and built up more.
Very quickly after setting up his expansion, he atatcked hard. He had lots of vultures, several sci vessels, and lots of tanks. (sorry, cant remember exact numbers :) ). Setting them up well spaced and quickly establishing a minefiled, he was able to kill my large force of dragoons. Fortunately for me, I was able to finihs off his tanks with a few well placed storms.
At this point, I tried expanding again to 3:00, but as I did so he ran another dozen vultures past my cannons at 12:00 and killed that expansion. Despite this, I still had a substantial resource advantage over him.
I had just built up another atatck force when he comes at me again, although now his vehicles are all 1-1. Storm saves the day for me, as he didnt quite space out some of his tanks enough. Losing most of my dragoons again, I began pumping out heavy zealots, as he had started going all tanks with less vultures. I countered his natural, and was able to kill all his scvs before being killed off. I saw him expanding to where my old expansion at 12 was, and was ab9out to atatck it when he hit me again, with tanks and a few vultures.
This time I fended it off with a good amount of units alive, and I sent half to his natural and half to the new expansion at 12.
At this point, I had the game won. I sent a continual stream of lots/dragoons to him and he eventually conceded.
(It should be noted that the in the rematch, zerg vs zerg, i got owned :)).
Why he lost: Despite the fact that his macro AND micro were incredible, he lost due to the fact that he just didnt have the resources to contend with me. Even though I had twice as many expansions as him, he came very near to matching my units. Had he expanded quicker, i probably would have lost.
Mistakes on my part: Game would ha e been easier if i had gotten dweb before he was basically dead :) Instead of mass expanding and sacrificing half the new ones to small atatck forces of his, (which is rather inefficient) I probably should have built up some defence there instead.
An excellent game all around.
My next game will be a terran vs toss with the terran the winner, and will focus on what he can do to stop a variety of toss strategys.
