But the time comes when everybody ends up having to do the ugly, and the inevitable.
It was a couple hours before he had to drive to the airport, so he decided to get in a quick public 1v1 on Styx. In struts nobody other than Ralessi, saying "oboy, I get to play another Ral hater."
So a quick pub game turned into a nightmare of sorts for -Flathead-, because he never had much of an urge to play against this particular foe. No matter, an opponent is an opponent, and it is just a game after all...
So the battle commenced. -Flathead- morphed in at the bottom starting spot on Styx, and went for a second hatch build, with one sunken just as the third hatch was started. Ralessi went with 2 gates and early zealots, planning on transitioning to templars.
At the start, one of Ralessi's probes came into -Flathead-'s base, attacking the drones. -Flathead- responded by attacking the probe with 2 drones, at which time he retreated. A scouting overlord revealed the first zealot out of the gate was headed directly into town, spurring -Flathead- to morph the creep colony into a sunken.
Alas, when the zealot got there, -Flathead- was horrified to find that the spawning pool was 1 or 2 spaces too far away from the sunken, and the zealot was getting free shots on it. As well, he had been building drones and not zerglings, so there were no mobile fighting troops. -Flathead- swore and qued up some zerglings out of both hatches, and quickly morphed a new pool and 2 sunken colonies at his natural expansion. Good news about only building drones is, there's drones to build defenses in critical situations such as this. One more creep colony was erected at his main, as 2 more zealots walked into the area and helped to finish the spawning pool off. Bad, bad placement for that initial sunken, I can tell you. The three zealots continued on to the expansion and were killed by two sunkens.
-Flathead- took stock. Replacement pool was half done, lots of minerals, and he was starting to gather gas. He expected Ralessi to mass zealots w/templar support, as he saw a citadel going up at the protoss main. He researched burrow, and ran 18 zerglings to near the entrance of Ralessi's base as soon as he had them.
"Research complete". -Flathead- then ran 2 zerglings in to look at the base, and saw 7-8 zealots, and a completed templar archives. A scouting overlord also revealed a fledgling expansion in Ralessi's natural. The zerglings were burrowed, and tried to look inconspicuous.
The final force-feeding:
-Flathead- cackled as he watched 10 zealots and an archon walk over the top of his burrowed zerglings. There weren't sufficient troops to fend off this attack at home, so he morphed three more creep colonies at his natural expansion, and ran most of the drones there to mine. When the enemy protoss warriors were half way to the zerg base, -Flathead- unburrowed all the zerglings and went straight into Ralessi's peon line.
"WTF"
"WTF"
was Ralessi's response. Evidently the ritalin hadn't kicked in yet. But when it started kicking in that there were too many defenses at -Flathead-'s natural, the response was different:
"Gay. That's gay"
-Flathead- hadn't a clue that zerglings were all gay, especially when burrowed, so his response was:
"ROFLMAO".
Lessons learned:
-Again, NEVER GIVE UP. Against a good player, a mistake could have cost me the game. But I didn't lose my cool and kept on track.
-Burrowed zerglings ROCK. They can fool even the most experienced player.
-Watch for wily veterans such as myself to use tricky shtuff when their backs are against the wall.
Ralessi asked for a rematch, even after issuing the strong verbal response to being beaten. After repeated requests, -Flathead- accepted in a game on lost temple, even though he didn't want to. But alas, the SC gods were not with us today, as battle.net is down.
Good game Ral. I promise you can write a tongue in cheek BR about you beating me down after we rematch.
