The Set

Act The First: Macbeth!
The Curtain rises on the well know boards of Lost Temple. The footlights are shining. The Audience is waiting. On with the show!
Fractal_Wave begins by building a Supply Depot with his 8th SCV. Then a Barracks, a 2nd Barracks, then a Refinery. As the 2nd Barracks begins construction, a noble SCV is sent to hunt down SnowSquall.

Zounds! The Villian hath been found! Macbeth!
SnowSquall has gone with a build almost exatcly like Fractal's...with two Barracks, one of which is training a Marine even as Fractal's SCV books it out of there to avoid the puncture wounds that are sure to follow
Meantime, Fractal's Barracks have not been idle. As SnowSquall's scouting SCV begins to assail Fractal's mining SCVs, the first marine of the play steps on to the stage. And he belongs to Fractal. And he quickly blows SnowSquall's scouting scv away.
Fractal_Wave build a bunker at the top of his ramp to prevent any foolhardy attempts at an infantry assault by SnowSquall.
The bold Fractal_Wave begins an Acadamy and a Factory. A comsat is added to his command center and a quick scan of SnowSquall's base reveals a truely puzzling sight: the first barracks built by SnowSquall is now being rebuilt.
hmm. Macbeth.
In a fit of thought, Fractal_Wave dedeuces that SnowSquall has floated the inital Barracks to the North-West island, to fortify it for potential expansions! Gadzooks! Such vile villanry cannot be permitted to live!

While such thoughts are coursing through Fractal's brain, his hands are ordering the production of a handful of vultures to mine SnowSquall into his own base. 12 spider mines later, two vultures are placed on patrol and one lays down its life to discover that SnowSquall has laid a bunker down at his choke as well.
But SnowSquall is lacking in cloak detection. A foolish error. Fractal_Wave quickly begins building a Starport for wraith prodcution. A control tower is tacked on to make the wraiths invisible to SnowSquall's prying eyes.
The next section of aerial battles cannot be told adaquatly with mere narrative. The actors themselves will have to show you the extent of the haste with which SnowSquall fortified his island, and the desperation with which Fractal attacked. It is important to note that Fractal secured an expansion at his natural expansion during the battle.

~INTERMISSION~
Act The Second: Prospero's Rage
After the war in the air finishes, SnowSquall is triumphant: he has held the North-West island with scvs and hordes of missile turrets. Fractal must be content with using twin wraiths to patrol the airspace around the island.
But, Fractal has not been idle. Realizing that he now has the means to place troops anywhere on the map with his dropships, Fractal loads up two dropships with 2 Seige Tanks, 6 Marines, an SCV and a medic.
Slipping his forces into the south forty of SnowSquall's main base, the dropships are unloaded. And are blasted to bits by a well placed seige tank...to say nothing of Fractal's Feeble unit control.

Seething with anger at both his stupidity and SnowSquall's tenacity, Fractal prepares a second squadron of dropships. He also expands to the 3:00 starting position, and constructs a Science Facilty and a Covert Ops. add-on. Soon a Nuclear Silo is being contsructed at Fractal's 3:00 base.
SnowSquall takes this lull in the action as a sign of weakness and sends a squadron of marines to attempt to blast through Fractal's front door - which is fortfied with a bunker, missile turret, and Seige Tank. Again, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Cackling with glee at the success of his trap, Fractal jumps to the offensive. Twin dropships unload their cargo on the east side of SnowSquall's main base. This 6th column of infiltrators sets up a bunker and a missile turret before begin discovered by a roving wraith. Fractal brings wraith support of his own in, and again a minor war breaks out:

SnowSquall floats a factory out of range, but is is blown to smithereens by Gemini missiles.
Fractal uses his dropships to spot for his seige tanks. Not to be outdone, SnowSquall uses his much more durable barracks.
Golden-marked wraiths fly in and unload a volley of missiles in to Fractal's dropships. He is forced to retreat them to the safty of his turrets, leaving SnowSquall with a sight advantage.

Fractal now has four dropships shuttling in more troops to his push. But SnowSquall's defense is holding off the attackers with minimal losses.

Fractal decides to call upon his heavy weaponry: A sorceror named Prospero. After testing many candidates (and losing many nukes in the process) Fractal selected Prospero as his court magician.
Prospero and his apprentice teleport to the sight of the tank push. With a muttered word of power, the pair fades from sight, and walk within killing range of SnowSquall's tanks. As Prospero aims his spell, his apprentice keeps a weather eye out for enemies.
Act The Third: Much Ado About Nothing
As the mighy mage Prospero begins to cast his spell, a humble marine at Fractal's main base sees an enemy Science Vessel floating towards him. He radios a report to his Commander, who orders him to remove it with extreme prejudice.
As the marine unholsters his rifle, a blast of laser fire seperates him into his componant atoms, as two full wings of
SnowSquall's wraiths fly into Fractal's base and begin systimatically removing any form of cloak detection.
The Comsat falls, all the bases's turrets are reduced to rubble, and the Engineering Bay is blown away. Fractal quickly starts up a base at the 3:00 Natural to rebuild his Comsat on.

As the wraiths fall on the SCVS at the 12:00 natural, Prospero finishes his spell.
"Nuclear Launch Detected"
The great mage falls down dead from exhaustion, but his name will live forever. Fractal's forces roll over SnowSquall's main, destroying everything in their path, while SnowSquall's wraiths do the same to Fractal's main.
An Armory is constructed at Fractal's 3:00 base, and the base is fortified with missile turrets before the Engineering Bay falls.
Token resistance is put up at Fractal's main: A pair of brand-new wraiths is obliderated before they can cloak. Marines are trained, and do a little damage to the Wraith fleet before they are destroyed. Goliaths come on-line, and kill a de-cloaked wraith before they are blown apart. Fractal's detection is quickly gone as the cloak "shadow" of the wraiths casts itself across his base.

Fortunetly, SnowSquall has yet to find Fractal's 3:00 base. Fortifications are made, and an errant comsat from SnowSquall spots the base, his fleet moves in for the kill.
At the same time as the bold SnowSquall makes his move the last building of his main falls to Fractal's tank push. All that remains is his island expansion and his fortifications at his ramp.
The wraith squad desends upon the 3:00 base with one thought in mind: halt Fractal's war machine.

Alas, poor SnowSquall. I knew him, Horatio.

The wraiths are not enough. Repairable missile turrets, a token marine and Prospero's two apprentices send the wraiths to the great Repair Bay in the sky.
As the dust settles over Fractal's 3:00 base SnowSquallsurrenders a well played, hard fought game to Fractal_Wave.

Learning Time
#1.) Cloak Detection would have been a ~very~ good thing for me.
#2.) I got lucky and my 1st Comsat scan noticed that SnowSquall had floated his barracks....if that had not been seen, I would have lost the game.
#3.) A collary to #2 Scouting is sooo key.
#4.)My nuke aim sucks
#5.) A good idea by SnowSquall, attacking with his marines when all I had shown was wraiths...but I had built those vultures for a reason. =)
#6.) Collary to #5: Attack where it's not expected, with units that arn't expected
#7.) Goliaths would have helped soooo much.
Hope you enjoyed the show.
All the best,
Fractal_Wave |
