PRE GAME

Wrestler4life and terranslushie were playing me and ocysp~, but ocysp~ was disconnected. He wanted to rematch, so we set up the game again.

THE SCENARIO

Map: DARK (spooky) Temple (like lost temple, except its on the twilight tileset, and you can make the addon at 12)

Teams:

2Inadequate, orange zerg, 6:00 position
Ocysp~, brown terran, 3:00 position

VS

TerranSlushie, yellow terran, 12:00 position
Wrestler4life, teal protoss, 9:00 position

Watcher: UpgradedKakaru

EARLY GAME

The early game was pretty simple. Everyone went relatively standard builds except for me. I went for the dreaded lurker rush and prayed that I would not be rushed while I was executing this risky, but possibly very successful build. Just to make sure I could survive a small rush, I put down 2 sunken colonies after pooling on 9 and getting my first 2 drones on gas. 2 more drones were soon sent to gather the essential and precious vespene required for the dreaded lurkers.

Ocysp~ went with a 2 barracks build, getting gas soon after he lay down his academy.

Wrestler4life went 2 gate, forge build and put 3 cannons at his choke, as well as 3 cannons surrounding his main base.

TerranSlushie went with a 3 rax build order, building an engineering bay and a factory soon after.

Even though my economy was in horrible shape due to the 2 sunken colonies I had created, I continued on, morphing a lair, then hydra den. As soon as the lair finished I researched lurker aspect, and morphed 4 hydras and an overlord. I was fortunate to have enough supply free and enough resources to morph all 4 hydras into lurkers as soon as the lurker aspect was finished. I asked my partner to scout our formidable terran opponent at this time, and saw only turrets for detection. Licking my chops, I sent my dreaded lurkers in to do some damage.

And what damage they did.

TerranSlushie had about 18 or so marines at the time, as well as 1 vulture. All of these were simply shredded, with 1 spine attack from a lurker taking down 7 marines simultaniously, another taking down 5. The group of lurkers did not go without losses though, and 2 died. The remaining beasts continued to wreak havoc, forcing the command center to lift off and killing some scvs before the remaining ran like the wind to safety behind the lone bunker with turret support.

Soon after I moved my lurker to hit the bunker, 2 zealots and 2 dragoons came with observer support and quickly ended the threat of my heavily damaged lurkers.

BATTLE BREAKDOWN

Me: 4 lurkers

VS

Them: 18 marines, 1 vulture, 2 zealots, 1 bunker, and 2 dragoons, several scvs

Results:

Me: all 4 lurkers lost

Them: 1 vulture, 18 marines, several scvs

I had effectively knocked TerranSlushie out of the game. At least for now.

MID GAME

While this was going on, I was not idle. Neither was Wrestler4life or Ocysp~. Ocysp~ was planning to tank push TerranSlushie, and Wrestler4life expanded to his natural. Ocysp~ also expanded to his natural. I added 2 hatcheries to boost production, and began pumping hydras and drones, to get a good economy going. I was then struck with a brilliant idea: Hydra drop. As I was building up for this, Wrestler4Life unloaded 2 reavers into my mineral line. They were not terribly successful, however, and managed to kill 1 drone and about 5 hydras.

Transport and speed were upgraded at my lone lair as I continually pumped hydras and drones, as well as a few zerglings. By the time both were finished, 12 hydras and 8 zerglings were ready to get into the overlords. They then began the short transit to Wrestler4life's protoss encampment. Everything managed to drop, and took down the measily cannon that stood guarding the outskirts of the base. My hydras began pounding on the tech buildings when Wrestler4Life dropped 2 reavers near my offending hydras. My attack was quite successful. I managed to kill a gateway, forge, the robotics bay, and 1 robotics facility.
However, with the help of a newly warped in zealot from Aiur, the 2 reavers managed to kill the hydras, and the threat was ended.

For now.

Unrelenting, 8 hydras were summoned into 2 overlords and dropped unharmed into Wrestler4life's main base. The remaining, damaged reaver was quickly taken care of, as well as the zealot. The cannons that were warping in were soon dispatched, and more tech buildings were destroyed. 9 more hydras soon joined their species and took the noble protoss commander's main base.

Ocysp~ was not idle. His tank push had began, with the help of a vessel to take care of the annoying spider mines. TerranSlushie had gotten up to speed (somewhat) and was attempting to hold off Ocysp~'s advances. However, Ocysp~ was simply too powerful, and the tanks blasted the once again great number of infantry TerranSlushie had managed to muster into little pools of blood.

LATE GAME (sort of)

My hydras, by this time, had been able to completely finish off Wrestler4life's main base. I asked my worthy terran ally to scan both islands. TerranSlushie was attempting to expand to the top left island. My 12 hydras sitting idly at Wrestler4life's base were loaded up and dropped there. The expansion attempt was quickly ended. By this time, Ocysp~ had finally finished off TerranSlushie's main base.

Wrestler4life had managed to put up a templar archives and 2 gateways at his expansion, and began pumping templar. However, 11 hydras came to say hi. They did not fair too well, as a psi storm killed about 4, and the 3 cannons, 1 shooting from the main base choke and 2 guarding the entrance to the expansion, managed to end the threat. 2 dtemps were sent in to quicken the destruction of the hydras.

This did not deter me, however. the 12 hydras dropped on TerranSlushie's island expansion were loaded up and dropped right in Wrestler4life's mineral line. Ocysp~ added 2 tanks and some infantry, and 12 hydras attacked from the front. This was simply too much for Wrestler4life to handle, and he left the game soon after. TerranSlushie stayed, and his island had a half completed supply depot and a refinery. 4 hydras and some terran infantry soon destroyed the remaining buildings, and the day was ours!

Lessons Learned:

1. Lurker rushing in 2v2 is very risky, as it is hard to hold off an early double rush, but incredibly effective. I do not feel that many people expect a lurker rush in 2v2. It just is not done due to the fear of the double rush.

2. After lurker rushing, hydra drop is a very viable option. After all, all the tech you need for it is right there, just the transport and speed abilities need to be researched.

3. A hydra drop is hard to stop with simply 1 or 2 cannons for defense. A strong, mobile force is necessary, or a few goons/scouts/sairs patrolling the outskirts of your base (as protoss). Since overlords are in abundance, a zerg player can send his whole army to you in the form of a drop, which is much more deadly than a frontal assault.

Good game to all who played, I hope you didn't mind me making a battle report out of it.
