Lifetime Rating for Omega.Judicator: 5.0000 |  | Well, I am not totally sure why I decided to write this, but it is my first [and maybe my last] so be kind :). Also, no pix... I wasn't planning on writing this.
Due to the lack of people on ICQ an AIM, I decided I would play my first game of Brood War in about a month. Knowing that I would be rusty, I did not want to jump right into a 1v1, so I joined a 2v2 on Lost Temple.
This game is insignificant to this report, but it is the basis for which I played the 2nd game. My teammate was 0-0-0, so I didn't expect to win, even though our oponents weren't exactly skilled, either. I was toss at 6, and my pard was zerg at 12. Our oponents were Basix [Zerg, 3 o'clock] and I can't remember the name of the other one, but we'll call him '#2', who was Zerg at 9 o'clock. I did a 7 pylon, 9 gate, 11 gate, 12 pylon build for early zealots. I scouted with my 8th probe and took a peek at #2, who had a spawning pool about 500 health done, and my pard scouted Basix with his olord and found that he had a similar build, only his spawning pool was nearly complete. Unfortunately, Basix decided to put a sunken in my partner's base, thereby eliminating him. He attacked with all his units, but could not bring it down. I sent 3 zealots to help, but quickly high-tailed it back to my base after his [my partner's] hatchery was destroyed and he left the game. Grrreat. 2on1. Like I stand a chance. I quickly made a cy core and a forge, but I knew I would be greatly outnumbered and I was merely delaying the inevitable. To shorten this down and hopefully keep your attention for another .3 nanoseconds, #2 dropped a massive amount of hydralisks from the left side of my main and Basix came in with guardians. I had taken the lower right island, but that was destroyed by Basix's guards before all of this happened.

Well, we know this guy likes to brag when he wins a 2v1 :). Deciding that I would not tolerate this comment, I challenged him to a 1v1. He accepted, we met in a channel, and he insisted I pick the map since "I sucked so much and he would own me". I choose Dire Straights, my fav map to play with my normal partner if he is online. Being the polite person I am, I offer a "gl and hf" before the game starts, and his only reply is "bah, you'll need that good luck". What a fine human being :).

I open with a rather defensive build since I do not know what race he is. I have a 7 pylon, 8 assimilator, 9 gateway, ~12 pylon, ~14 cy core, and then a roboctics facility followed by a forge and another pylon. After my first shuttle comes online, I send it to upper right and find an olord. Not there. Then I send the shuttle to bottom left, and find a lair, another lair in progress, and hydras. Looks like he wants to end it early with a drop. It looked as though he followed a similar drop build as to what I do... 2nd hatch on 12, extractor on 11, pool on 11 [build another drone in between], and morph 2 lairs when pool finishes. Then commense with the hydra production. I knew that if I produced enough zealots and goons, I could hold him off, but instead I went with a robo support bay for reavers, and a stargate for corsairs to warn me ahead of time about drops. This turned out to work quite well, as I had 1 reaver completed and another halfway done when the ~12 hydras landed. He was able do destroy 2 goons and 2 cannons I had placed next to my nexus. I built more goons and scouted the map for expansions. None. Well, I had learned to always expand during the first drop, but apparently he hadn't. After 2 more corsairs, 2 more reavers, and 2 more shuttles, I decided to counter-drop. I was a little late, though. He dropped about 16 hydras this time, but I quickly unloaded my troops and wiped them out with only loosing a goon. I then proceded to his base with just the 2 reavers. He had no sunkens behind his mineral line, and I was able to destroy about 6 drones and 7-9 hydras before his reinforcements brought them down. Once again, he dropped me with ~16 hydras and I lost little, as I had continued production of more reavers, shuttles, and dragoons. Well, because this is already longer than most BR's without screen shots, I shall shorten this up. I found an expansion at the island between lower left and lower right, dropped 6 goons, and eradicated the zerg infestaion. I decided to expand myself at the 12 exp. I had to ferry reavers back and forth between the exp and my main to fend off hydras, but he was dropping the same amount every time and was doing very little harm. After denying him of any resources, and after he had attempted at least 4 more drops, he conceded and actually said "gg". My faith in this person was slightly restored, until he said
"you suck I still own you anyday"
Sorry pal, but if you just lost a game to me I don't think I am the one that sux. Well, I DO, but not compared to this fool :).
Lessons:
- Had he expanded earlier and reinforced it with hydras, he probably would have been able to save the expansion.
- Maybe if he had went with a fast muta build, he could have done more damage, but on the other hand I already had corsairs by the time his 2nd drop came, and I would have seen it with my scouting shuttle.
- My reavers don't speak korean, they just beep like probes only longer
- I don't think toss like malt liquor, so I never brought it up
- I don't suck as much as I thought I would after a month w/o playing :)
