VS
Fractal_Wave, Zerg, bottom right
PRE GAME
I was looking for a 1v1 in NH, and Fractal_wave comes in and accepts my challenge. I create the game, he joins, we wish "gl,hf" to each other, I add that I suck, and we begin =)
EARLY GAME
I go with my standard build, 8 depot, 10 rax, 12 rax, 13 ref, 15 depot. Deon is sent off to scout for the enemy (whose race is a mystery at this point), but I see a small, evil drone wander into my base.
Zerg.
I vow to myself that I will scrub the zerg infestation of this region off this beautiful land, and I will do it no matter what the cost.
Fractal_wave, however, has different ideas. Deon runs into Fractal_wave's base, and runs into 2 zerglings. He breaks a tackle, goes in, then tries to take both zerglings by himself! Deon needs to raise his IQ. He will never get that chance though, because the 2 evil zerglings waste Deon.
That's right. He wasted Deon. HE WASTED DEON!!!!!!!
HE WILL PAY!!!!!!!!!!
He sends in 6-8 voracious zerglings at my guarding marines. Without stim, a bunker, and firebat backup, the marines scream out, "AHHH!" as they perish to the evil little pups.
My barracks, however, have not been idle. 2 zerglings are left, and my 2 marines come out and avenge their buddies with vicious gauss rifle fire blazing from their guns. They are then sent to the ramp to guard it.
I add a bat and medic to my force. More lings come. They almost overcome my force, but my firebat roasts the pups well enough before he perishes so the marine fire can finish them off. The firebat did not die in vain.
More 6-8 ling rushes come up my ramp. I hold them off barely each time, but then I get out 4 bats, he sends in 12 lings, and my bats and rines have roast zergling for lunch. The medics are repulsed by this, and decide that they will not date these stupid marines and firebats. They're just so damned primitive.
MID GAME
Well, that was the end of the zergling attacks. I see through the powerful comstat satellite that he is going for lurkers. Having extra resources, I put up a bunker and turret at my ramp, as well as a factory. I go marine/marine/medic from my barracks, and start pumping tanks out from my factory. When I get 2 tanks, he charges me with 3 lurkers. They are roasted, and the marines and firebats have roasted lurker for dinner. The medics are now not sure if they will bother to heal these disgusting men. However, I order them to do so, and if they don't, I threaten to send them in to get shredded by lurkers. They scream, "Ooh!" at the thought and regretfully agree to heal them if needed.
I send out Bob the marine to scout around, and he sees nothing before returning to base. The only place Bob did not scout was Fractal_wave's natural. He came back, and soon after I decided to send him out again. 6 lings awaited him outside my base, with 3 lurkers for support, and poor Bob was shredded.
I was building a command center during this time at my main base to float up and establish an expansion, and decided that it would take more than just tanks and comstat to scrub this territory of all creep. It would take Mr. Burns and crew.
So I threw down a starport, closely followed by a sci facility. My CC floated to the left-middle expansion and I got it running with 1 bunker, 1 turret, and a barracks.
Around this time, I assume, Fractal_wave had his natural, and had probably expanded to the mid-right position. Mr. Burns came out, irradiate finished, and he went out and irradiated a containing lurker. Fractal_wave cursed and took his containment force away. He had also busted out some queens, and used them to parasite and broodling some of my tanks and medics.
LATE GAME
Here's when the drop came. I think 10 overlords filled with lings, hydras, and lurkers came into the side of my base and started wreaking havoc. not that alarmed, however, I gathered my 24 marines, 8 medics, 6 firebats, and 5 tanks that I was just about to begin a push with and used them for defense. The entire offensive force was shredded.
Battle breakdown:
16-24 hydras, 4 lurkers, and 18 lings (these are all approximations)
VS
30 marines, 5 tanks, 8 medics, and 6 firebats
Results:
Me: 16 marines lost, 2 medics lost, 5 firebats lost, 1 tank lost
Fractal_wave: everything lost, except for lords
I still had a powerful force, and moved them to the bottom middle expansion to set up. I was now upgrading from 2 engineering bays, going for 3/3. I set up camp, and restored a tank and vessel from parasite. He then comes in and broodlings 4 out of my 5 tanks. The queens do not get away though before I can irradiate them. I, however, have kept my factory active, and send in 3 more tanks. I take down 2 sunkens at his natural, and he tries to send in a force of a few lings and 3 lurkers to shred some tanks. They all get annihilated before they can get off a single shot. I see overlords coming in my direction, and have stationed a fairly small force of marines (about 8) and medics near the previous (and pretty much only) drop location. They mass, and I see 7-8 overlords coming my way. My now 3/3 marines stand there waiting for the 0 armor overlords.
"Ahhh, that's the stuff."
*pop* *pop* *pop* *pop* *pop* *pop* *pop* *pop*
He gets to drop precisely 1 zergling.
It gets annihilated in approximately 1 second.
Fractal_wave then calls GG, and asks for vision. Deciding that the zerg scum has gone through enough pain, and being the nice guy I am, I give it to him. I then send in all my forces, and the zerg scum is removed. I have accomplished my mission on the territory not unjustly called Rivalry, and I am sure that I will fight many a battle here yet again, either to make the area safe from the mighty protoss, a renegade terran squad, or the evil, smelly zerg.
Lessons Learned:
Vessels/M&M/tankx ROCK!!!!!
3/3 marines kill overlords sooooo fast. its not even funny.
GG Fractal!
P.S. Fractal_wave outspent me by 3000-4000. I guess it must have been those overlords =)
