I've been lurking around on BR.com for a while, posting the occasional comment. I've decided to go back to shareware to write this one. I logged on and created a new account as "ASDF131564." I join the first game I find open.
Map: Byways
Players: ASDF131564 - purple terran, bottom
deathpronouncer - white terran, top
To let you know how this map looks, there are two starting positions, one at the top, one at the bottom, and two expansions, on bottom left, and one bottom right.
Early game
I started by building 7 SCVs and then a barracks with 8 and a depot with 9. Then a second barracks with my 10th and another depot with the 8th one when the barracks finishes. They all go back to minerals except one (no I will not name him) and send to him see whats up. he runs around white's base and sees a decent amount of SVCs and a single depot. At home I've built a refinery and two more depots. I filled a bunker, my only ground defense at my main all game, and fill up with marines. I then build a second CC and float it to the bottom left exp. My scout leaves the base with all of white's SCVs trying to kill him. He runs to the top right exp. and finds 2 SCVs with 2 turrets there. they try to kill my poor scout too, but he managed to get out with 40 hp left. I sent him back to work on minerals and recomended him for a medal of honor. He was turned down.
Mid Game, tank push from hell
I've gotten up a factory, and grab 6 marines and a tank that were milling around and send them up just outside of white's base. I seige up the tank and begin blasting a turret.
deathpronouncer: NO RUSH
ASDF131564: I know
ASDF131564: just setting up camp =-)
He has surrounded himself with turrets, but oddly enough has no tanks yet. A few marines charge blindly out and are fried by my stimmed up marines and now two tanks. My push seems to be working, then I comsat the top right exp and find a starport w/ a blinking control tower (no CC yet). I build a turret and an engineering bay at the site of my push and float the bay to spot for my tanks. I find that A) I have two idle factories (poop) and B) a large quantity of marines and tanks sitting around. I send them up one seige blast sends all but 4 of my marines charging into his base. After banging my head on the computer desk for 2 minutes screaming "HOLD POSITION, HOLD POSITION." I find a pair of cloaked wraiths shooting a tank of of my turret's range. I bait them both in and they get fried. A pair of marines then charge at my naked expansion killing a whole one SCV and are then ripped apart by the ultra powerful SCV fusion cutters. He then trys a vulture at my exp. with similar results except no SCVs are killed. My push now consists of around 12 tanks, and assorted infantry. Again in fly the cloaked wraiths and they manage to kill a few tanks and a turret, all of which are quickly replaced. I then remeber that I had a dropship which I had built to seige him from the cliffs with. I drop two tanks, but they are shredded by wraiths. I curse the handsome devil and retreat my dropship, pick up 6 firebats and drop them in his mineral line. I kill a good half of his SCVs before they are killed. I scan his exp. and find he finally has a CC built with 2 SCVs mining and no more building. Late game His wraiths then attack my spotting eng. bay but it is repaired and once again his wraiths are baited and torn to bits by turrets nd marines. his main is tapped out, so is mine. But I have an exp. going full swing, his has 2 SCVs mining. At this point I am preparing to take his expansion over when, lo and behold:
He disconnects.
How low can you get, disconnecting on shareware??? Of coarse, others would say, "who would bother playing shareware just to beat on a newbie?" I would, that's who.
Lessons learned:
Going back from Brood War to Starcraft shareware really sucks.
I really suck.
This report really sucks
The next one will be better, I promise.
