It had been going on for 43 hours now, incessant hiccuping making -Flathead- insane. What better to get his mind off of it than a game of Brood War!!
Logging in, -Flathead- decided to go public with the first of his few games, and got involved in a really fun game. He chose challenger as the map, and when his worthy opponent joined, -Flathead- noticed that this guy had a brood war win-loss record of 650-140!!! Yeeeeowwwch! A sure loss, -Flathead- thought... and checked to see if the opponent's win loss record had scared his hiccups away. It had not :(
The game commenced. -Flathead- went random, and drew Protoss on the top start location. WO (worthy opponent) went random as well, and drew Terrans in the bottom start location. WO decided to go with an early medimabat rush, while -Flathead- went with a 2 gate all zealots opening.
Hiccuping, -Flathead- sent 5 zealots to the enemy base, and built gas and a cyber core at this point. Since expansions on this map are usually best flown to, -Flathead- wanted to try and end the game early. WO had a bunker above his CC, and had 6 marines/medics just outside the bunker. Unfortunately for WO, the bunker was set up one square too far away from the refinery, and the zealots began to whack on the unguarded refinery. All the marines unloaded from the bunker, fired once, then loaded back in. This prompted -Flathead- to command the zealots to concentrate only on the refinery. Unfortunately, as -Flathead- went back to base to que up some more troops and probes, the marines attacked again and whittled the zealots down. When the refinery was down to 10 HP, the marines killed the last zealot, and an SCV began to repair...
Things looked very very bad for -Flathead- at this point. He had spent too much time MM'ing the initial zealots, and had quite a bit more cash in the bank than he should have. In addition, his entire attacking force of 5 zealots had been killed with minimal losses (some repair costs and a pair of SCV's killed only). He was down to 4 dragoons and 2 zealots, while his opponent managed a factory and 18 medimarines. If WO would have rushed at this point, -Flathead- was probably dead. His hiccups continued to bother him as he built a 3rd and 4th gateway, and warped in a robotics facility to work towards expanding.
WO decided to wait until 2 tanks w/siege were ready to roll, and then sent the attacking force to -Flathead-'s base. Luckily, a wandering probe caught the attacking force in transit, so -Flathead- got a good look at it. 2 tanks, 4 medics, 2 firebats, 10 marines. -Flathead- had 8 dragoons, a pair of zealots, a shield battery, and hope.
In a bit of a lucky stroke, one of the two tanks was killed because it was in the front of the approaching force, and the dragoons caught it AS is was sieging. The second tank went down after it had gotten one shot off. -Flathead- shift-attacked the bats, then marines, and they went down horribly to the dragoons' concentrated fire. If shields began to get low, -Flathead- would use the battery to keep the dragoons alive. This was when WO typed "I hate playing as Terrans". The first of -Flathead-'s reavers popped, and he started on a shuttle to get probes to an expansion. After the probes were delivered to the island, -Flathead- loaded up two reavers and went to the enemy base with the shuttle and 8 dragoons.
Hiccuping with trepidation, -Flathead- knew there must be quite a few tanks coming off the line at this point. If more than three were sieged, then it was going to be big trouble getting past the choke. Surprisingly, WO had decided to place the tanks inside his "wagon wheel" type base, and the dargoons were able to spreadout past the choke and all attack at the same time. WO had four tanks, which began to shred the dragoons. One tank went down fairly quickly to dragoon fire, and the drags started on a second that was close-by. At the same time, the shuttle flew into the peon line and 2 reavers dropped and attacked the tank that was sieged in there. The tank was taken out in short order, along with 7 or 8 SCVs, and the last two tanks died, leaving 3 dragoons whacking on the undefended buildings.
There was little response from WO at this point. Thinking he had an expansion somewhere, -Flathead- left one reaver, and loaded the other to fly around the map. He discovered a fledgling expansion on WO's island, and dropped the reaver there to take it out. This was when WO declared "gg" and resigned, taking loss #141 in his brood war career. The ending stats revealed that -Flathead- and WO had been nearly even in both resource gathering and Unit points. -Flathead- mused that it's nice to win such an even battle, then he hiccuped again. Oh well, -Flathead- mused, then went to bed.
