Introduction

Hey guys. Welcome to my third report! I've been living the highlife at BR.com recently :) , well, in my standards at least. I suppose starting a new account turned out to be a great idea. I'm no longer the retarded twelve year old named lurkerburger7 who reports the numerous dangers of consuming fast food, which I still blame on puberty :P. Anyway, lately I've also been trying to salvage the miniscule SC skills that I once possessed. B.net's been a bitch when trying to find a decent game. Half the time, 10 minutes in, my alleged ally would exclaim "How do you ally?" or " What's Starcraft?". In return, trying very hard to be polite, I type back "F*cking n00 b, go suck your ****"...well um, you get the point right? Eventually, I decided to forget B.net cuz if I wanted to get this BR out within the next year, I'd just have to go back to the trusty stash of online replays. It occurred to me that me that I had no SC skills anymore :/. I found myself getting owned by hydra micros, reaver drops, and mutalisk rushes. So right now, I'm BRing a replay sent to BR.com by knight) jizzang. I'll try to keep this one short and fun. Hope you guys enjoy!

The Matchup

match it up

Ahh. The sweet smell of Lost Temple (next time, new map, I promise =/). It's canyons and crevices harbor some of the most talented players on B.net. Here, we have two competitors ready to fight to the death. There is Psy101010, who spawns at the 12 o'clock position. He is orange zerg. There is also Nerubia, who spawns at the 9 o'clock position. He is white terran. Both seem to be of mediocre skill, which should proove interesting for some nice n00b on n00b action, as things heat it up in fear of elimination. So let's do this shit :).

Early Game (00:01 - 10:00)

Commence. Nerubia decides to brew up a formidable economy first, chugging out numerous SCV's. Then, he constructs two barracks, knowing that he'll need all the troops he can get early on against a zerg. As his cash is piling up, he scouts 12, uncovering Pys's base and his scheme as well. He notices an early spawning pool and foresaw a definite 6-pool lurking in the immediate future.

Matters became hairy from the beginning. Nerubia frantically began training several marines. As the soldiers ran out of the barracks, he knew very well that he would not possess enough in time. So he devised a strategy and took a couple of SCV's and his three marines to wall off the entrance ramp. Sure enough, the Zerglings came running into view only a few seconds later. The critters reached the basin of the ramp and the marines opened fire. The zerglings scrambled in confusion, running around in circles hopelessly. Pys saw nothing prosperous coming out of this attack, so he retreated back to his base. The human wall worked brilliantly, quite possibly saving Nerubia's base.

blood
Pys decides to put the battle in the past and move on. He summons a drone and begins building a hatchery just under his expansion to the east and scouts 3 and 6 o'clock, hunting for enemy activity. He also techs and starts a lair and spire back home.

Meanwhile, Nerubia now has a decent sized group of M&M with bats. He dispatches the force down the ramp and east. They siege up just outside Pys's ramp basin. One of Pys's nearby ovies caught a glimpse of the setup. He hastily spawns several lurkers and zerglings to counter the M&M. Pys decided to have a little fun with the terrans. He sent in a group of zerglings (metabolic boost upgrade) and turns back sharply, hoping to lure the enemies into the lurkers and sunkens. The plan worked for a second, but Nerubia was nimble enough to pull his troops back. The battle continued on like this for the next minute, as the two armies micro'ed around eachother. Eventually, Nerubia set his force back in full retreat, frustrated by the baiting techinque of his adversary, but Pys was not about to let his opponent get away so easy. He sent his Zerglings up in front of the terrans as a distraction. The lurkers marched in broadside to the retreating army, until they caught up to the front of the congo line. When they did so, the beasts burrowed and filleted the marines and medics. The terrans stood no chance, as they were detector-less and there were no survivors.

Nerubia was very displeased with the performance of his infantry. To reinforce his army a bit, he constructs a factory and chugs out a few siege tanks. After he has built up another group of M&M, he sends the infantry down the ramp and to the east again, while he perches a tank atop the overlooking cliff. However, Nerubia is rudely greeted by a group of four lurks (unburrowed) and many zerglings. At sight of the terran, the zlings charge while the lurks advance at a slower pace. Soon after, they burrow and slice 'n dice the infantry, but not before being shelled by the perched tank. Pys realizes the tank is a big threat to the expensive lurkers if detected, so he retreats to the center right after the last marine is eliminated. This creates a stalemate scenario for a while outside Nerubia's base; the lurks and lings vs the marines and tanks.

Mid Game (10:01 - 17:00)

As the stalemate wears on, both players decide to improve their economies. Nerubia lifts off a command center pre-constructed in his base and sets it down at his northern expansion. Pys orders a drone to 3 o'clock and begins a hatchery. He also dispatches packs of hydralisk, zergling, and scourge to patrol the center and contain Nerubia.

After a few minutes of this, Nerubia got sick of being bitched around and staying put, so he mustered up more M&M, tanks, and a couple of vessels (anti-lurx). When his troops were ready, he sent them down the ramp, where they regrouped at his expansion. Then, the group moved east, and stopped abrubtly. Neruia was cautious and moved his two vessels ahead. They soon came across the lurker blockade. Carefully, he placed his tanks just outside of the lurker's range and sieged. The tanks got a few shots off, but the lurx retreated and burrowed a few meters back. Nerubia did not want the lurkers alive. He used the same strategy and the tanks fired once more. Pys had enough of this tom-foolery :P and sent all his hydras and lings from the center in to counter the tanks. He obviously didn't know about the M&M waiting right behind the artillery. As the samller units charged in, Pys unburrowed his lurkers and they moved in as well. Although he saw the vessels, he completely disregarded them. The focus was on the lurx, as he knew they were his only hope against the M&M. Finally, the lurkers had made it into the ground and began anihilating the terrans. But the rest of his troops had been eliminated, and once again, all guns were pointed at the lurx. Tanks were the big issue here. Most of them were out of the lurkers' range. Pys realized that he was already half way through the meatgrinder, and needed to pull himself out. He unburrowed his four remaining lurx and got the hell out of there.

meatgrinder :D

Nerubia still has a unquenched thirst for blood. He decides to pursuit the evacuating lurkers about a minute later. However this was enough time for Pys to get a hold of some of his leftover hydralisk. In the single minute that Nerubia stalled, Pys had spawned four brand new lurkers (total=8) and they await the terran's attack. Meanwhile, Nerubia is brushin' off his shoulders. He thinks he's got Pys right where he wants him. Unfortunately, he is about to find out the the hurt's on him, as he sends the M&M and tanks northeasterly, outside Pys's base. Suddenly, numerous hydralisk appear on the scene, followed by the large group of eight lurkers. Nerubia is stunned. The zerg have caught him way off guard. His infantry are being shredded at an alarming rate. To save face, he sets defense matrix on two of his tanks. It holds the zerg off for a mere ten seconds before the matrix is broken and the last of the tanks are crippled. To further humiliate Nerubia, Pys chases after the two fleeing vessels with scourge and eliminates both of them.

humiliation!

15 Minute Update

I'm just gonna fill you guys in on homefront activities for a while, cuz nothing was really happening :/. Pys has taken his natural and 3 o'clock. He has also teched with a hive, and defiler mound. Right now, he is spawning many hydras, lurkers, and zlings. In addition, he's working on a few defilers for support.

Nerubia now has five barracks and is chugging out infantry like he's on crack or something. Tanks are on the scene for defense. He also possesses a starport and science facility to make his vessels, mainly for the lurkers. Anyway, here's an overview of both bases. Pics are always better :D.

pys's pad nerubia's crib

And to top it all off, here's the build orders.

Player Build Order
Pys Pool, Extract, Hatch(expo), Lair, Extract(expo), Den, Sunks(ramp basin), Hatch, Spire, Chamber, Hatch(3 o'clock), Nest, Extract(expo), Hive, Mound, Chamber, Hatch(expo)
Nerubia Barracks, Barracks, Refinery, Academy, Comsat, Factory, Port, Bay, Facility, Turrets, CC(expo), Refinery(expo), Comsat(expo), Barracks, Bay, Barracks, CC(outside expo), Factory

Back to the game. Nerubia is still shellshocked by the fall of his troops. He knows that he's in deep shit now, as his base is nearly unguarded. He switches to defense mode and frantically rebuilds his army. He constructs a line of bunkers on the outter perimeters of his expansion and builds up many siege tanks and M&M. He upgrades infantry weapons (+1), infantry armor (+1), and increased marine range.

Pys realizes he has the upper hand. With this new burst of confidence, he hastily spawns large numbers of zerglings, hydralisk, lurkers, and a couple of defilers. He also begins work on an ultralisk cavern-just in case and his hydralisk and lurkers are upgraded (attack +2).

Late Game (17:01 - 18:55)

After a few minutes of evolving his army, Pys is ready to put this thing to bed. He knows of Nerubia's line of bunkers+tanks and that they are a huge threat to his entire army. He devises a quick plan that turned out to win the game for him. Pys sends in his defiler first. It uses dark swarm twice, right before the bunker line. It is then irridated by a nearby vessel, but its job has been done. The lurkers move in next under the sanctuary of the dark swarm, which worked like a charm. Nothing could hit the lurx; it rendered even the vessels useless. Pys unleashed everything once his lurkers were safely in the ground. The zerglings and hydralisks advanced and also made great use of the dark swarm, safeguarding them from the bunkers and M&M. They targeted the tanks, as Pys knew the death on wheels was the backbone of Nerubia's army. Meanwhile, the heavily upgraded lurx decapitate the marines and medics. The terran army is whittled down to dirt and Nerubia knows the battle is lost. He leaves the game with nothing except embarrassment.
