This will be my first batttle report, I wrote this earlier today and posted it on the Battle.net forums, so no fancy images or colors, just the report and replay.

--------

Shamelessly stealing the idea from 12th_Panzer, I’m going to try my hand at writing a battle report. It probably won’t be as entertaining or witty, but I’m going to attempt it nonetheless.

Anyhow, it’s a rather warm Monday afternoon, and despite having the windows open and a fan blowing in some fresh spring air, it’s still hot as a mofo. Looking forward to doing something that requires minimal physical activity for sake of trying to stay cool, I log onto Battle.net and join Public Chat KJ, which currently has about half a dozen non-AFKers loitering around.

Kitae_Dust is apparently looking to pick a fight, and makes an open challenge for a one on one. With no one else taking the bait, I answer the call of duty and accept his challenge. Now, ever the artful dodger, Kitae usually avoids playing against me, but he didn’t waiver one bit, and requested a non-LT map, which is fortunate because I’m getting rather sick of that place too (the temple just doesn’t seem so lost anymore). I take a look into my map selection and offer up Neo Forbidden Zone, having only played it once over a year ago, and looking to give it another round; Kitae, though perhaps a little saddened that we weren’t going to play on his favored map of Nostalgia, agrees, and the battle ensues.

Kitae_Dust vs. EvilTeletubby

As the timer counted down, both players and observers alike were thrust onto a barren space platform... well, almost barren, except for the enemy out there, lurking in the shadows, looking to destroy you before you could destroy him. I drew the 4:30 slot, playing my trusty Terran (and as bushard can attest to, it’s a good idea I stick with T and not P), and set off to do my standard 4 Goliath drop. Kitae, meanwhile, was at the exact opposite of my position in the 10:30 slot, also deciding to go with Terran for this match, and started off on his drop build, a Tank coupled with a pair of Goliaths.

Sending my Barracks north to 1:30, and him sending his East, also to 1:30, they eventually crossed paths, revealing each other’s whereabouts. The Dropships, with the proper coordinates now, disembarked to hopefully do some damage to the other player. My dropship arrived at his base first, and the plan for the mechwarr... err, Goliaths, was to land behind the mineral line and blast away some SCVs. Unfortunately, this was not the case, as I believe the pilot was not entirely sober (I think MegaFlesh was doing the flying), and dropped some of the hapless machines in the middle of the worker field. Like an angry swarm of bees, the SCVs began spot-welding my Goliaths to death, and succeeding in killing the invaders without many losses on their side.

Kitae’s drop, however, fared much better than mine. His Tank and Goliath combo killed my lone defending Goliath(extremely bad macro on my part for only having that one Goliath... as usual, I forgot to build supply ahead of time), and looked to wreck some havoc on my econ... which they most definitely did. A good deal of SCVs died trying to ward off the ruthless machines, and eventually managed to, but after suffering some heavy losses, leaving the supply count at 23 vs. 32. Kitae, looking for a quick kill, sent down 5 more Goliaths, but by this time I had a sieged Tank, and a pair of my own Goliaths, and with a little repair support from some friendly SCVs, the attack was fended off.

Knowing I was a little behind, I began work on expanding to my natural, Kitae doing likewise, and we both began setting up some factories to do some macroing. Looking to prevent him from expanding overzealously, I sent three Goliaths out scouting, first the 7:30 natural, then to Kit’s natural. Upon finding the undefended expansion, and after yelping out “Ahhhh, fresh meat!”, the Gols were able to pick off a number of SCVs before some defenders we able to force them back and secure the expansion.

Needing to get an advantage, I then decided to take the 1:30 natural as well, because I try to make it a priority to always have one expansion more than the other guy in TvT, either by denying them, or taking one of my own. The problem, however, was that my troops were spread a bit thin, and Kitae capitalized on that by sending a large group of metal, Vultures and Goliaths and Tanks(oh my!), down to ravage my newly made expansion. The four Tanks I had deployed there did a valiant job of trying to beat back their Terran brethren, but facing such an overwhelming force, there is not much else to say except that their deeds of valor will be remembered. Reinforcements were sent up, a bit too late to prevent the complete slaughter of the entire work force, but looking for vengeance instead. Though outnumbered, with some siege power, I was able to whittle down the Goliath heavy army, leaving two of my own Tanks and a Vulture against 5 of his Goliaths. Kitae, knowing the Tanks have a minimum range restriction, pulled his Goliaths right up to my tanks... and into a well placed spider-mine, and with an explosion and a couple more shots fired, all that remained was a lone Goliath, and one more spider-mine... which the Goliath pilot promptly wandered onto, leaving both armies, attackers and defenders alike, completely annihilated.

By now, both sides had each grabbed another expansion, myself at 7:30 main, and him at the 7:30 nat. Unfortunately for me, Kitae had assembled a large Wraith strike force, and my 7:30 only had two Gols and a lone Turret(very out of character for me), which Kitae was able to destroy. The Wraiths, looking to waste little time, began working on the CC itself, which gave me some time to throw up Turrets and fend them off. Kitae, not to be so easily discouraged, sent down a dropship force and leveled the base. No prisoners were taken, and no mercy was given.

Looking to return the favor, I set about to do some structural rather than economic damage... I load up about ten dropships and head straight for his main. Seeing this coming, Kitae sieges his Tanks and sends his Wraith/Dropship force back to his main, but not in time, and I’m able to land most of my army smack dab into the middle of his base. Although he did try to put up a fight, having greater numbers and my own Tanks already sieged, it was a lost cause for him, and he tried doing the only thing he could, lift and float away his buildings... which my Goliaths, in turn, simply used for target practice.

Kitae, with a somewhat large resource buildup at this point, opts for the big guns, and starts laying down some starports. In the meantime, I’m loading up for another drop, and hit the 7:30 nat expo with a moderately sized metal force, and succeed in killing many of the SCVs before reinforcements arrive. After dropping off a small group to deter his fresh 7:30 main expo, I get a glimpse of some newly commissioned Battle Cruisers, and start pumping out pure Goliaths, meanwhile each of us are taking an expo in the middle.

After another couple minutes, and a drop by me that failed to do much, the warning klaxon began blaring that my base was under attack, and indeed it was, for I saw a large cluster of BC’s invading my rather undefended main from the west. I quickly ordered a couple Goliaths to be built in the main, and also had the gas-mining SCVs start throwing up turrets to deter the behemoths. Now it’s time to have a little fun I declare, and set out with three whole control groups of pure Goliaths (that’s 36 Goliaths for the mathematically challenged out there), and head for his 7:30 nat expo, taking out a middle expo attempt along the way. His Battle Cruisers in my main try to dish out some damage, but due to all the newly constructed turrets and a few Goliaths, they eventually succumb to the darkness. In a vain attempt to stave off the massive Goliath invasion from razing his expo, he lays down a mine field and readies his defenders, but they are simply too few, and Goliaths are quite adept at taking out mines.

Seeing his Battle Cruiser fleet obliterated, and his buildings in ruins, Kitae Dust concedes defeat, and I gain a hard-earned victory. By the end of it all, I had sweat running down my back, and although I suppose that was primarily due to it being over 80 degrees in my room, Kitae is partially responsible.

GG Kitae, and hopefully everyone enjoyed this. Questions, comments, and (well constructed) flames are all welcome.

If you feel like sitting through a 35 minute TvT, here ya go:
