Note: This is fan-fiction. I have had some ideas about this for a while
and finally got a bit of time to put them down.
This is what I would do if I were writing the story for Starcraft
2. I am only going to post the preface
right now. Let me know what you think
and give me tips for improving if you hate it.
Starcraft 2 – Preface – Forgotten
Destiny
“The
Emperor has approved the Council’s decision Jun’ai. The debate is over.”
This was
a fatal mistake. Why was the Council so
blind! Jun’ai took a moment and chose
his words very carefully. The destiny of
his race and likely his life hinged on what he said next. “I beg the Emperor’s and the Council’s
forgiveness but I must speak. Our
enemies are presently at war with each other.
To attack now would give them cause to unite against a common
threat. Are we not better off either
waiting for their war to end? The loser
will be all but destroyed and the winner will be significantly weakened by the
conflict.”
“Unlike
you, Jun’ai the Council does not doubt our supremacy. The Dimotar will crush their combined forces
like insects. Your words tread
dangerously close to heresy.”
Jun’ai
made a barely successful effort to keep the fear out of his voice. There was no turning back now. “Councilor Ignar’um I do not doubt our
ultimate victory.” That was a lie. The Dimotar were not yet powerful
enough. They could not handle the combined
forces of their enemies. The way things
stood now the Zerg alone would be a tough opponent. Also the recent alliance between the Protoss
and Terran made them quite formidable.
The union had given them substantial manpower, and the new weapons they
had co-developed were quite deadly.
Still, his desire to live made the lie necessary. Jun’ai took a deep breath before
continuing. “I only question how costly
that victory will be.” He paused a
moment for maximum effect. “With another
year of work I can triple the strength of I can triple the strength of the
Dimotar And upgrade their control mechanisms to prevent
us from losing control of them as we did with the Protoss and Zerg.” He, of course, did not voice that last part
of his thoughts. “The war between the Alliance and the Zerg
will not last longer than that. Our
enemies will be weak and facing a force three times stronger than one that can
defeat them now. We have waited 10,000
years to fulfill our destiny. One more
is insignificant.”
Emperor
Ada’etlan suddenly broke his silence and the Councilors assumed his previous
state just as quickly. “Jun’ai, out of
respect for the marvelous engineering work you have done on the Dimotar we
shall hold a referendum to address your concerns. If you can make such an impressive
improvement in so short a time then a small delay would in…”
“My Lord,
I must protest. To delay even…”
Though he
showed no outward sign of it, the emperor was intensely angered by the
interruption. He motioned to one of his
guards who, without a thought, pulled out his weapon and disintegrated the
unfortunate Ignar’um. The Emperor
continued as if he had just ordered dinner.
“…would
indeed be prudent. Another year to
tighten the grip we are soon to have on the galaxy is time well spent.”
Ada’etlan’s
eyes shifted to the spot where Ignar’um once stood. “If we are to regain the glory we once had,
we have no use for ancient Councilors who use the dogma that we employ to
control the masses as an excuse to hide from the truth and dispose of those
whose superior capabilities threaten their position. Jun’ai, son of Bril’art I invite you to join
the Council of the Xel’Naga. You will be
advising me in the fields of Engineering and Technology and will work very
closely with Marinte, my war Councilor.
Your first assignment is to deliver to me the most efficient way to
exterminate the Terran, Zerg, and Protoss races.”
Councilor
Jun’ai, full of pride, set his substantial brainpower to the task at hand. Upgrading the Dimotar was only the beginning.
