I managed to get N0_ESCAPE (old name) to play me under the handle champ_champlain. We decided on the map lost temple which is so popular these days, and we both chose protoss as our race. He drew 9:00, and I ended up at the 12:00 position.

Since N0_ESCAPE made a name for himself with his deadly 'unbeatable' zealot rush, priding himself on defeating the infamous BlackLizard on temple using his zealot rush, I knew what was coming. I went 7 pylon, 8 forge, planning to block my ramp with a combo of zealots and cannons. At the cost of my economy I decided to go for a quick gateway as well for my combined defense.

His 3 zealot recon/raiding party arrived at my base when I had 3 photons up supported by a couple of pylons. Unfortunately, my gateway was just finishing, and my ramp was not entirely blocked. Only one zealot died before they were able to rush past the cannons and start attacking my probes. But after destroying two, I completed a zealot, and engaged them. I was able to kill the weaker one, but then I lost mine, and he started to attack my forge. It's shields had almost completely been depleted by the time my next zealot finished to end the assault.

Then, since I had a few spare minerals built up during the seige, I started another pylon, gateway, and two more cannons. The cannons just finished, and I had four zealots when 12 zealots appeared at the bottom of my ramp. I was able to do a good job of holding them off by letting only three get attacks at a time using the narrowness of the ramp, but eventually my zealots fell and he got past my cannons with 3 zealots.

Again they targeted my forge, and managed to destroy it before I defeated them with my probes and two newly emerged zealots. However, I lost another 2 probes in this defense. At this point I thought I would be all right as long as I could get some zealots and goons to help my cannons guard the ramp. I neglected to rebuild my forge for a while to get a cybernetics core and another pylon as well as some replacement probes.

This turned out to be a very bad decision. About 25 zealots rushed my defenses of 5 cannons, 8 zealots and 2 goons. Thanks to the ramp, I was having a very positive situation, but he had targeted my cannons and managed to kill all of them before his forces were defeated. I didn't realize why he had sacrificed the efficiency of his troops to take out my cannons until I heard the deadly attack of the dark templar begin to lay waste to my detectorless defenses.

Realizing at this point that I would not be able to get any form of detection, and that I could not win, I said "gg" and left the game. After the game I commended N0_ESCAPE on his brilliant play and how he turned his normally devastating, but not truly unbeatable zealot rush into a setup for a dark templar rush. It hurt to finally get a loss in melee, but at least I lost to a better player.
