In my last report,
LuckyNewbie:P gave me some tips that I will implement in this
report. Before I start going into my battle report I will explain
parts of Generals that will be relevant to my battle report. If
you have or know anything about generals skip this next section
and go on to the report itself.
Command &
Conquer: Generals is the first C&C RTS title to be presented
to in full 3D. Generals is all-new Command & Conquer, with
a modern conflict inspired by events relevant to today. Set 20
years in the future, the game involves the United States and China
versus a rogue terrorist-like state, the Global Liberation Army.
As for the economy,
there are no vespian gases or minerals to collect. There is only
one resource in this game and it is cold hard cash (or credits),
which can be collected in a lot of different ways. The main way
to collect it is from the supply dump, which looks like a bunch
of boxes, crates and barrels stacked on a stretch of pavement.
Each side has different ways of collecting money (USA- Chinook
Helicopter, China- Truck, GLA- worker). Hopefully, you have gotten
a general idea of how the economic system works: Something goes
out to collect the money from the supply dump, brings it back
to the supply gathering building, and Walla, you got money.
Now we go onto
another feature. The General's promotion system is a sort of way
of going up the tech tree. You can acquire a general's promotion
by fighting in battles, or in an easier way of putting it, fighting
against the enemy. Once you get a promotion you can pick a new
unit, a new upgrade, a special attack, or, if you get enough promotions,
a super weapon.
Finally, we
end up with the military issue. This game has "the most balanced
system of units", which means every single unit has a counter.
Infantry can be countered by humvees, tanks by RPG troopers, Bombers
by AAA trucks (not traffic safety or battery trucks), etc.

During the early
months of 2003 there was a conflict raging in the Middle East,
first with words, then with action. The Second Gulf War, or Operation
Iraqi Freedom, toppled the oppressive regime that Saddam Hussein
implemented. This brought change to the people of Iraq that was
desperately needed. After the war though, people criticized the
Bush administration because no one found weapons of mass destruction
in Iraq. In this Battle Report, I will experiment with a new style
of writing that hopefully you will enjoy. I will mix the battle
report, which has almost no story to it, and give it one. The
"fanfic" will be in italics, while the battle report
will be written in normal text.
2027- a year
marked by devastating change in the Middle East. Iraq, formerly
considered a "western country", has been toppled by
the ideals of Iran, its next-door neighbor. This poses a real
threat to the countries of the Middle East, as Iraq has weapons
that the U.S. military gave them as a gift. President Al Sharpton
was notified of this and he gave responsibility to General Tommy
Franks Jr. to destroy all the U.S. weapons that Iraq had. CENTCOM
put the 3rd Infantry Division, which was near a riverbank near
Basra, Iraq, on alert status as Iraqi forces mobilized on the
opposite side of Basra. Sharpton said, "General, your boys
better win this one because your ass is on the line." Tommy
replied, "Sir, my boys are going to put more lead in them
than on the George Washington Bridge."
Limpo and I
were going to do battle on a map called Sand Serpent: A map for
2 players. This map has 4 zones separated by rivers. Two were
the starting positions (northwest and southeast), one was a town
that separated the players, and one was an expansion that had
2 supply dumps inside another village. Limpo went northwest as
the U.S. and I west southwest, also with U.S.
Baghdad,
Iraq- The Shah of Iran has made Iraq a puppet state. The people
of Iraq are all chanting "Death To America" and burning
American flags. The Iraqi Generals, which have had a lot of training
under U.S. advisors, have formulated a strategy to destroy the
American forces in and around the region of Basra. "Generals,
I hope you have found a way to dispose of the western bastards"
the shah spoke. "Yes sir, we are 80% mobilized on the southern
front," said the generals. Iraq was going to be engulfed
in a new war by the end of the day…
We both had
similar builds: Power Planet (powers your base), Barracks (builds
infantry), Supply Depot (manages the collected resource), Patriot
Missile Defense (anti-air and anti-ground defense), War Factory
(builds tanks and vehicles), and an Air Field (builds air units
like planes and helicopters). Both of us researched Capture Building
and captured the oil derricks (gives additional funds) that were
in our bases.
In the opening
act, Limpo takes the middle town and its oil derricks and sends
3 crusader tanks (all purpose tank) to attack my base. Luckily
for me, I have built up a sizeable force of infantry units and
another patriot missile defense. The enemy tanks manage to crush
a couple of my infantry units but nothing serious. Limpo then
sends a couple of his infantry units to garrison in some buildings
in the village as extra defense in case I attack.
An Iraqi
general's status report- we are currently advancing head-on into
the Americans. We have taken Basra and are occupying buildings
just in case the American dogs attack. The villagers are "happy"
now with the westerners out of our holy land. We have sent some
patrols into the American base and we have seen much. We also
intercepted the Americans' radio signals. They think those patrols
were attacks. Wait till they see what is in store for them.
Limpo wanting
a quick victory takes 4 humvees, loads them with infantry, and
tries to outflank my base and attack from the back. It doesn't
work so he just attacks head-on. It was no challenge for my defense
but it took a while to kill them. Wanting to save his units, Limpo
sends a F-22 Raptor to take out one of my humvees. Thanks to my
patriot missiles the raptor didn't go far. Noticing his air units,
I quickly built my own raptor and put it on patrol in front of
my base. Also, I took the general's promotion, which you get one
at the start of every game, and took the Paladin Tank (heavily
armored U.S. tank).
Limpo, still
hoping to take me down sends 3 crusader tanks to attack me. This
attack fails miserably but Limpo still supports it. He sends a
Comanche helicopter and another two raptors. All would never see
their home base again. After those battles I was thinking towards
the future so I built a Strategy Center (It allows the player
to choose between one of three "Battle Plans" that affect
all of the American player's soldiers) and a supply drop (The
Supply Drop is the US secondary method of gaining additional resources.
Every two minutes, the Supply Drop calls in a transport loaded
with goodies).
Gen. Tommy
Fanks Jr. Status Report- Mr. President we have a serious situation
going down here in Basra. The Iraqis are throwing everything they
have at us and then some. We are trying to hold out but we will
need more time…
Now I was ready
to go on the offensive. I trained Colonel Burton (Colonel Burton
is the ass-kicking commando hero unit of the US forces. He sports
a nice complement of remote/timed C4 that he can plant on any
structure. Once placed, the C4 can be detonated via remote or
it can be left there and a timer will eventually detonate it.
He is also cloaked when not shooting or planting his C4) and infiltrated
the village that Limpo had taken over. Seeing that it would take
long for my troops to hack away at the garrisoned forces, I tell
Burton to plant his C4 on the garrisoned building near his oil
derricks. The garrisoned soldiers can't see him until its too
late and only 1 garrisoned soldier survives the blast.
At that time
I though to myself, "hmmm, this is a good time to attack."
I had a lot to back that claim up: a good economy, a good military,
and a good strategy (My strategy was to kick his ass). I mobilized
my military and initiated the [Battle Plan] Bombardment at the
Strategy Center, which gives all units a 20% damage boost.
I sent in my
tanks first and then humvees and infantry to back the tanks up.
I saw something unexpected: a couple of more buildings garrisoned
by Limpo's troops. Not only this
but there we a lot of RPG troopers shooting my invading forces.
I was going to micro my units around but most of my army was a
tank/humvee combo and I was fighting in an urban setting so this
was almost a cakewalk for Limpo's infantry. Also he had help from
above: Comanche choppers we firing rockets at my tanks while his
F-22s were bombarding my humvees. I still was getting resistance
from an occupied building so I sent over Colonel Burton and "took
care of it" the same way he took care of the other occupied
building. Again, there was only one enemy soldier that survived.
During this action I took some of my infantry and raided the oil
derricks that Limpo had captured. I recaptured it but Limpo saw
this and attacked the derricks until it was destroyed.
My army was
getting ground to a pulp so I had no choice but to pull back.
Limpo knew this and he was not going to let me off his leash so
easily. While my troops we slowly retreating, Limpo raided them
constantly with his choppers and jet fighters. My army escaped
but badly beaten. Limpo's army was twice the size of my army so
I came up with a really simple solution. During the conflicts
I had racked up enough generals points to get a generals promotion.
Out of everything I picked an A-10 strike (This upgrade calls
in air to ground support from the US A10 Warthog aircraft). I
still had a couple of soldiers left in the city but I didn't know
where Limpo's army was, so the soldiers became scouts. I found
his army and sent in my A10s and in 3 seconds half of his tanks
were destroyed along with some infantry units.
Direct Communication
By Satellite-
Pres. Al Sharpton- "General I have your report that states
you are in desperate need of aircraft from the Carrier U.S.S.
New York. They are loading their A-10s but I need to know why
your troops are retreating…"
Gen. Tommy
Franks Jr.- "Mr. President, we are not retreating… we
are advancing backwards…"
Now with my
army at my base I needed to patch up. I built another power plant
at the northern edge of my base and built more units to fill up
my army, which was small compared to Limpo's. Sadly, my scout
units had all been killed so I didn't know where Limpo's army
was. This would prove to be a major blunder on my part.
Limpo knew well
that his army was bigger than mine and that I was all banged up
from the last battle. He had a clear battle plan laid out for
him. He had air superiority over most of the map, he had a big
army, and he had beaten the crap out of me, so he knew all he
had to do was attack me.
Limpo sent in
tanks to attack my right flank first. He had Tomahawk Missile
Launchers (This long-range missile platform is best utilized for
taking out enemy installations from afar) bombarding the top of
my base just before his tanks came into the picture. He destroyed
the Power Plant, which I built one minute ago, first and then
he went onto my base defenses. They, though, proved to be a difficult
match as 2 Patriot Missile launchers and 5 veteran tanks are not
so easily beaten. After a couple of firefights his tanks were
gone but I took 2 tank casualties.
A Paladin
Tank's Radio Signals- This is Green Leader, Everything is quiet
over here… wait. What's that? **Boom** Holy Shit! THIS IS
GREEN LEADER I'M UNDER ATTACK I NEED BACKUP. I NEED BACKUP NOW,
DAMMIT NOW! **Boom**
Next Limpo sent
in his humvees, infantry, and tanks to attack my base head on.
The first humvees were quickly destroyed but then came his tanks
and RPG troopers. This was going to be a little difficult to take
down but nothing serious until Limpo did something that nobody
expected (nobody being me). Limpo used an EMP pulse (takes out
all electronic equipment including tanks) on my tank army and
this was devastating as only my infantry units were fighting the
battle. Seconds later, though, my tanks had come back online but
3 were destroyed while they were off. After my tanks came back
online, they had a little trouble in destroying the 2nd wave of
attackers.
A U.S. soldier's
poem:
"With my GI boots and my GI socks
My GI hair, my GL locks
GI rifle that I bear
GI wish that you were here"
Finally, Limpo's
infantry attacked on my left flank. They didn't do much damage
and they were put to sleep. This attack would have been 5 times
stronger if he attacked from one place, but he didn't. Was there
a reason for him doing so or is he just a stupid n00b? Yes there
was a reason. During the fighting Limpo had run out of resources
at his main so he expanded to the southwestern village that had
2 supply dumps.
After the battle
I sent out a drone to see if Limpo had any army left and I saw
that he had a few units packed together. I also saw that I had
another A10 strike available to me so I used it. The A10s came
in swiftly and annihilated them all. Then I sent in my army, which
was now all healed up, to rip apart his base. Building by building,
I slowly destroyed his main. A few minutes later all I had left
to do was to destroy his expansion. I had one general's promotion
left and I took the Fuel-Air Bomb (Brings in the devastating Fuel
Air Bomb that engulfs everything in a fireball of explosive goodness).
The explosion was so devastating and so beautiful that it couldn't
be put into words so here is a picture:
After I used
the bomb, I sent in paratroopers to occupy some buildings. Sadly,
they occupied a building that was to close to another building
occupied by Limpo's troops. Limpo had researched flash bangs (can
clear out buildings) and it was a quickly over. Limpo's GIs threw
the grenades and 5 of my GIs were killed. I used another A10 strike
that I had and destroyed a supply depot that Limpo had and then
I came in with my army to kill off anything that was left. GG.
50 years
later… The History Channel- The conflict that started at
Basra ended an entire generation… The atrocities committed
by both sides will haunt the human race forever. This conflict
known as Middle East War would engulf the region in flames, hatred,
and nuclear winter… I'm Roger Mudd, thanks for watching…
I hope you guys
liked my new style and please make some comments… they would
really help. If you guys liked my style writing style, I might
make more reports using it.
