LurkerBurger7's BR#4:
The Craftiest Among the Stars
A
Report
|
Prologue
For centuries, they've been skirmishing over the most holy and corrupted lands.
For generations, they've been using valuable resources to build, rebuild, and rebuild again.
For eons, they've killed millions from the opposition.
Now, the Protoss, Terran, and Zerg are at it again, fighting over a title that cannot denied.
A title called, "The Craftiest Among the Stars".
The Matchup
|
|
All three races participated in this game.
Sabotage_
randomed Protoss and was placed in the 12 o'clock position.
LurkerBurger7
chose Zerg and was placed in the 3 o'clock position.
viciouscub
chose Terran and was placed in the 6 o'clock position.
stillphy_chi
randomed Protoss and was placed in the 9 o'clock position.
The Map
The Lost Temple. We all know it, so lets get on with the BR.
Early Game
(0:00-9:59)
The early part of the game would most likely qualify as an "average" or
"regular" beginning. Just some scouting and a lot of building going on,
although there were a couple fo confrontations between the players. So here
we go.
To keep a better surveillence about his base,
LurkerBurger7
orders his first Overlord to hover at the ramp entrance in his base and saves up his resources.
Shortly after that, he begins an expansion at his natural.
Sabotage_
, after constucting his first Pylon, does a double Gateway and Forge warp.
viciouscub
was also on the same path, constucting 2 Barracks while
stillphy_chi
brings a Probe to his ramp and defends it with several Photon Cannons.
As a quick, more efficient scouting effort,
LurkerBurger7
sends out two Zerglings to scout the 6 o'clock position (
viciouscub's
base) and the 12 o'clock position (
Sabotage_'s
base). The Zerglings reach their destination. The one at
Sabotage_'s
base begins to attack a Gateway. It scratches away at the builing for a good
20 seconds before being filleted by a Zealot. The other Zergling at
viciouscub's
base begins to dig its claws into a Barracks. It also survives for a good
20 seconds before being disintegrated by a Marine's bullets. While
LurkerBurger7
is having a little fun with his adversaries, one of them gets angry-
Sabotage_
. In return, he sends 2 Dragoons to
LurkerBurger7's
base. They commence fire on
LurkerBurger7's
Overlord (that eventually died) and the expansion Hatchery (which is almost complete). But apparently, the elimination
of
LurkerBurger7
was not what
Sabotage_
had been anticipating himself. He was just scouting and moved on to
viciouscub's
base. There, they found no ramp resistance and headed straight for a Factory
that was in the process of being constucted. They destroyed the SCV that
was building it and began to attack the Factory itself. Although
viciouscub
did not have any outer defense, his innner defense was rather significant
for the time being. He sent a small squad of infantry, consisting of 3 Marines
and 2 Medics to counter the Dragoons. It was successful. They killed one Dragoon
and the other retreated, heading for the final base,
stillphy_chi's
. At this base, it was a whole different story.
stillphy_chi's
base had a large outer defense but hardly any inner defense. The outer defense
was of course the Photon Cannons.
stillphy_chi
had already placed several of them just before the mineral base outside of
his natural expansion. The lone Dragoon stood as no threat at all and
was destroyed in a few seconds.
Structures
(etc.)
You could just check out the overview section if you wanted to. However,
the text is more detailed and would give you a better understanding
of the game. Anyway, back to the battle report.
Sabotage_
decided to build a Robotics Facility to muster up some Reavers. After fending off the single Dragoon,
stillphy_chi
now had more confidence and expands to his natural.
viciouscub
enjoyed how his infantry squad had taken down that Dragoon so he kept on
training Marines and Medics. In addition, he continued the construction on
the unfinished Factory. Having an ample amount of resources,
LurkerBurger7
starts to morph his Hatchery into a Lair. Then, he notices his completely
unguarded expansion and sends 10 Zerglings down to defend it for a while.
Sabotage_
has a trick up his sleeve. He does a Reaver Drop on
stillphy_chi
. The Reavers were met by some Zealots, but they care of them with ease.
They continued to attack at took out all of
stillphy_chi's
Probes. But
stillphy_chi
had a couple of DTs and attacked the Reavers.
Sabotage_
had no Observers and the Reavers were finally taken down.
Advancing, The Players Are
By now, all players had harvested an ample amount of resources to use
for advancing purposes. The "annoying skirmishes" were seemingly over and the players
could now let their guard down a little to concentrate on buildings.
LurkerBurger7
had aquired a Lair, Queen's Nest, an expansion, and a Spire.
viciouscub
had a Factory and an extra CC to use for an expansion.
stillphy_chi
, arguably the most advanced at this point, had two Robotics Facilities,
a Cybernetics Core, an Observatory, an expansion, and a Robotics Support Bay.
Sabotage_
and warped a Cybernetics Core, a Robotics Support Bay, a Robotics Facility,
and a Citadel of Adun. Slowly but surely, they got further up the tech tree, showing the true potential
of both the races and the players themselves.
Mid Game
(10:00-19:59)
Things were rapidly heating up as the game progressed. And, as you might
expect, resources were fought over vigorously by all players. First off,
stillphy_chi
and
Sabotage_
had a fight over the top left base.
stillphy_chi
had initial control over the potential expansion, but
Sabotage_
was not about to blow off the oppertunity. Here's the details.
stillphy_chi
expands to the base. Shortly afterward,
Sabotage_
sends a Shuttle loaded with a Probe to the base. Seeing as though his foe
had stolen the base, he attacked with Reavers, Dragoons, and Scouts.
stillphy_chi
was not prepared for an attack, so he had to act fast in order to save his
expansion. To counter
Sabotage_
, he sent in Dark Templars. They were, in fact, very effective against the
Dragoons and Reavers, until
Sabotage_
summoned an Observer. The Reavers and Scouts took care of the DTs and eventually
destroyed
stillphy_chi's
expansion. He was very pleased and made good use of the resources. His enemies were
advancing at a rapid pace. Any type of better income would be extremely helpful.
Players were beginning to form their primary armies as the game grew longer.
viciouscub
was still training infantry and had a good number of them. His army also
included Seige Tanks. He was even lucky enough to take control of the
bottom right expansion.
stillphy_chi
was forming a powerful infantry army-mostly Zealots, Dragoons, Dark Templars, and some
High Templars /w Storm.
Sabotage_
seemed to be going on the same track with his Reavers, Dragoons, and Scouts.
We Got a
Mouse
Down!
LurkerBurger7: MY MOUSE!
stillphy_chi: waht's wrong?
Sabotage_: ?
LurkerBurger7: my mouse ran out of batteries. i gotta get new ones. afk
LurkerBurger7's
mouse had ran out of batteries (laser mouse) and needed a
quick change. He was afk for a good three minutes, giving his opponents
a sigh of relief. Fortunately for
LurkerBurger7
, none of his enemies attacked him in his period of invalidicy.
When he returned, he had to make up the lost time and hatches many Zerglings,
Mutalisks, Hydralisks, and a couple of Lurkers.
More Action
viciouscub
was not going to hold on to his bottom right expansion for long.
LurkerBurger7
had now set his eyes on it, sending a good number of Mutalisks down there
to settle the area.
viciouscub
had not yet had a chance to build up defense and the base was overrun.
After settling the base,
LurkerBurger7
took control and expanded to it, helping his swarm thrive.
At the same time,
viciouscub
was attacking
stillphy_chi
with a group of Firebats and Medics.
They put up a good fight, destroying
quite a few Probes and several Photon Cannons. But once
stillphy_chi
brought in his infantry, it was all over.
Sabotage_
was being very active this game. He had another force built up and instead
of assaulting
stillphy_chi
, hes after
LurkerBurger7
. But,
Sabotage_
might have underestimated
LurkerBurger7
. He had a large amount of Hydralisks and Zerglings
along with Guardians and Devourers. They would easily vanquish any of
Sabotage_'s
onslauts. The 'onslauts' were two waves of Scouts and, you guessed it,
a Reaver Drop. First came the wave of Scouts. They found a weak area in
LurkerBurger7's
defense and while they were at it, found a group of unguarded Guardians (awkward)
. The Scouts blasted the Guardians into bits while Hydralisks and Devourers
scrambled to the scene. They Scouts immediately retreated, carrying deep
wounds. Next came the Reaver Drop.
Sabotage_
found yet another weak spot in
LurkerBurger7's
base-near the Hive itself. So, he decided to drop the Reavers right on top
of the Hive. When they landed, the Reavers pummeled the nearby Drones and
then attacked the Hive. But
LurkerBurger7's
Hydralisks were hot on the trail and began to fire at the Reavers.
A shuttle came to pick up the Reavers and was able to escape.
Late Game
(20:00-29:59)
We approach the 30 minute mark. The map is bustling with energy and
movement. Almost all of the expansions were taken and every player was
tense, not knowing when the next attack would occur.
But two of them decide to step up to the plate, changing everything about this game.
Stillphy_chi's Assaults
stillphy_chi
is not the type of person who prefers massing and taking out bases in one
blow. Several, consistant attacks is the way he likes doing business. His target-
viciouscub
.
First,
stillphy_chi
drops on the north west ridge of
viciouscub's
base. He dropped Reavers and Dragoons.
viciouscub
attempted to counter the drop with infantry, Goliaths, and Seige Tanks.
stillphy_chi
held on for a good while, enabling him to send in many waves of reenforcements.
He sent these reenforcements in through the main entrance (ramp) of the base.
viciouscub's
empire was quickly crumbling. Without a significant air force, he was doomed.
Zealots, Dragoons, Reavers, and now even DTs were swarming all over his base.
He gave it up.
stillphy_chi's
tactics had worked, eliminating
viciouscub
from the game.
LurkerBurger's Onslaughts
Matters were even worse for
Sabotage_
. He was fighting off a gargantuan, full frontal assault of
LurkerBurger7's
Zerg units.
LurkerBurger7
had bided enough time to create a powerful Zerg Swarm, mainly
because of
Sabotage_'s
faliure to do any significant damage to him. The swarm consited of Zerglings,
Hydralisks, Guardians, and Devourers. However,
Sabotage_
put up a fight, possessing a large fleet of Scouts and Carriers, along with
an extensive grid of Photon Cannons and a squad of Reavers. It sure wasn't
going to be an easy penetration, or so it seemed.
LurkerBurger7's
swarm had just plain overpowered the Protoss.
Sabotage_
tried everything he knew, but the swarm was too quick. Before he knew what
happended,
Sabotage_
had lost half his base and was forced to ally
LurkerBurger7
.
An excellent victory indeed for
LurkerBurger7
, but there was still one more opponent out there.
stillphy_chi
was next on
LurkerBurger7's
killing list. It would be great timing as well.
stillphy_chi
had just finished destroying
viciouscub's
base and now had to face the full fledged fury of
LurkerBurger7's
swarm.
The swarm came without warning for
stillphy_chi
. It came through the front entrance, where he had positioned several
Photon Cannons, Reavers, and High Templars. His Psionic Storm was extremely
effective, especially against the Zerglings. The Reavers also did a substantial
amount of damage but still it wasn't enough. The swarm broke through the main
defense. But,
stillphy_chi's
great defense had paid off, limiting the swarm down to small group of
Hydralisks. However,
LurkerBurger7's
Hatcheries were pumping out reenforcements at an extrodinary rate. He had
soon mustered up a whole new swarm and sent it into
stillphy_chi's
base, giving him hardly any time to rebuild his fortress. So, by the time
the second swarm got there,
stillphy_chi's
army didn't stand a chance. The Hydralisks, Zerglings, and Mutalisks, finished
off the job.
LurkerBurger7
was victorious.
Lessons Learned:
1. NEVER let a Zerg player bide too much time an overrun two players at once
2. ALWAYS have a substantial air force
3. ALWAYS have Psi Storm and Reavers
I know, rather basic, but hey, its true.
