How NOT To
BattleReport, Part 2.
Hi again. To combat the lack
of BRs, especially WarCraft3 ones, I’m creating yet another report.
But first a bit about me:
I’m MacroWaveOven, on Lordadon (Us-West). My race statistics can be seen here, and my overall
statistics can be seen here.
The game is a WarCraft
ladder, 3v3.

The
Betrayal... em I don't think that's the correct term...
hippie for some
reason sent his first ghoul to the top-right position, possibly for scouting, where Scott
was residing.
Unfortunately, 1 minute in
the game something a bit unfortunate happened:
Now, our talk went a bit
like this:
BD: can u control pink?
jimmy: i can
jimmy: but can't u
BD: nah i cant
jimmy: ok ill control pink then
jimmy: what r u gettin anyway?
BD: ill go archers
jimmy: mass casters
jimmy: shamans
BD: k then
Opening Skirmish
I let hippie's
ghoul get in the top-right, wondering who was up there. Scott
was over there and was caught unawares as the ghoul ripped into a
peasant, nearly killing it. However, he noticed, and retrieved it into his peon
line, and selected three peons and converted them into militia to attack the
offending ghoul, who was banging into an uncompleted Altar. It changed target
too late, and was promptly slaughtered.

Heroes
and Creeping
I chose a Tauren Chieftain as my first hero (my favourite. Most powerful melee
unit in the game), while BD chose a Priestess of the
Moon (Reasonable, but I always choose Keeper of the Grove before her). As you
saw in the Build Orders, I completely forgot about an Altar for hippie,
and after a few minutes, I actually remembered. After banging my head on the
table several times (Don't do it. It canes, and damages the table), I actually
started one. When it finished, I immediately started on a Dreadlord.
Scott
ordered up an Archmage, while fred did the same thing.
EW, being Undead,
chose instead a Dreadlord.
The creeping started
relatively late. BD started just before fred
and EW. BD had a few archers and
his Priestess. He lost a few archers,
but received a reasonable item - Scroll of the Beast, I
think. fred and EW crept on the matching spot, and
EW immediately expanded there
(Early Expansions Section). I crept a little while later with Grunts and
Headhunters, securing my base
beforehand. Scott crept last (I don't know when).

Early
Expansions
Straight
after everyone crept, almost everyone expanded. BD immediately started a Tree of
Life, while both fred
and Scott's peasants started a Town Hall. One of EW's
Acolytes started haunting a gold mine where fred
and EW crept earlier. I chose
not to expand, figuring that if I powered well enough, I wouldn't have many
problems.

Does anyone have any idea why the
other team elected to tech even though it was a 2v3? (I'm assuming that you're
supposed to rush when you're down team members)
CounterStrike
After the little conflict in Scott's
main, nothing much happened. However, EW and fred
were massing outside EW's new
expansion. At 10:42 they crept south towards BD's base, and struck with a
Dreadlord, ghouls, an Archmage, footmen and the odd rifleman or two.
After
seeing that, I decided to finish creeping in the middle-right (was in the middle of it) before TPing
back there. Without defensive structures, BD
was forced to hold a little while
before I could come. But when my Tauren Chieftain arrived, things were looking
grim for the other team as constant stomping weakened the forces.
However, a nice Carrion Swarm severely
weakened him, and he got finished off. The others were done with ages ago. With
the help of some (bad) micro from my part, the attackers were forced to TP back,
but they lost nearly all their troops, while our heroes were accounted for.
Overall, no-one was better off, for we
both sustained heavy losses.

Building
Update:
jimmy: Stronghold upgrading to
Fortress, 4 burrows, 2 spirit lodges, 1 altar, 2 watch towers, a barracks and a
war mill.
BD: 5 Moon Wells, Ancient of War,
Altar, Hall, a Tree of Life and a Tree of Ages.
Scott: Lumber Mill, Altar, 8 Farms,
2-3 Barracks, a Castle, 2 Town Halls, around 7 towers and I believe a
Blacksmith.
EW: Graveyard, 8 Spirit Towers, Altar,
Crypt, Black Citadel, a Sacrificial Pit and... (goto the section after the next
one).
fred: 6 farms, a Lumber Mill, A
blacksmith, a Keep upping to castle, an Altar, 2 barracks and 3-4 Guard Towers.
Countercounterstrike
After we got our heroes
back, nothing happened. We all could get our economy going.
But it was not long before
war struck again. BD and I met at the place I crept earlier, and it was such
that all of Team 2 was there as well. Therefore a fairly big battle struck
there.
Team 1 had frost wyrms,
gargoyles, crypt fiends, archers, huntresses... the whole lot. Team 2 had, um,
knights and riflemen. Scott
had completed his knight tech (as you saw), and
struck hard at first.
But with jumping in and out with
my Tauren Chieftain, I
frequently stomped his guys so that they were severely weakened once again. Even
fred's riflemen could not stand against my
Undead air force Weakened by those losses, Team 2 was forced to pull back, allowing Team 1 to
push further in the base.

From
lack of anti-air, Scott's
base eventually was crumbling to my air force of wyrms
and gargoyles, among other things. With Scott
severely crippled, we assumed the
game would be immediately over.

We
were half-right.
Countercountercounter...
umm you get the idea
You might have been
wondering what EW has been doing all this time. Well, during the attack at
Scott's main, I sent a Shade to EW's base to see what was up, and what caught my
eye as soon we were razing Scott's main was this:

I did a minimap ping to the area immediately.
After seeing that, my ally decided to also start
an Ancient of Lore (I think) but probably forgot to build dryads out of it.
Well, now, about 6 frost wyrms had landed
in my base and pounded on my towers. They used their Freezing Breath to render
my Towers useless. After destroying them, they targeted the stronghold. Quickly
thinking, I pinged for help, and walked most of my
guys back (left air back there to continue razing) because I forgot to buy
another TP. I didn't worry too much, I was sure that my base would hold well
enough (didn't bother to repair). BD looked like
he thought so
too and also followed suit.
By the time the first shamans had arrived
there, all my towers had gone and my Fortress had nearly half of its HP
remaining. With
shamans using Bloodlust on archers and crippling the wyrms, the intruders were
gone, with very little loss.

I think
you can guess the title
Just as the last frost wyrm was
leveled, Scott's main was also completely leveled. I easily found his expansion with
gargoyles, and hunted it down. A brief resistance was offered by riflemen and an
Archmage (they
nearly killed the Dreadlord, asdf) before the Shaman/archer combination, in
conjunction with the Undead air, proved too great for the riflemen, and Scott
lost his last
working expansion.

Scott
expanded again while we were away
AGAIN, refusing to give up.
Another pack of scouting gargoyles found the expansion, and a while later, that
one was also destroyed by wyrms and gargoyles. Scott
left the game soon after.
Last
Straw
In desperation, EW
sent in his last wyrms to hippie's main. BD's Archers arrived there immediately,
and
with their range upgrade they destroyed the remaining attackers. With Team 1
having total map control, EW and fred
soon left the game. GG!

Statistics

Personally,
I
thought this was a nice little game.
Lessons
learned:
-
You CAN win a 2v3.
-
Try to build your altar first on
-
Don't bang your head on a wooden table
-
I should BR better and longer games.
-
I should place far less pics in my BRs.
-
If you don't know you opponent, always
assume he/she is a newbie. How true.
