I'm sure most of you have heard of MechWarrior, the FPS game of giant robotic combat. But I doubt many of you have heard of BattleTech, which is where MechWarrior was derived from.
BattleTech is a strategic board game with an incredible fiction background set in the distant future where you command squads of BattleMechs, Infantry, Vehicles, Protomechs and more. This particular BR will be set in 3052 when the remnants of the Star League, which left the Inner Sphere centuries ago return in the form of the Clans, bent on retaking what was rightfully theirs. Actually, the invasion started in 3050, but they had to take a one-year hiatus to elect a new leader. The old one died to kamikaze attack.
|
Anywho, this BR will feature an Inner-Sphere vs Clan battle. I don't think the forces are at all evenly matched, but screw that; the Clans are supposed to be imbalanced.
INNER SPHERE FORCES:
The Inner Sphere gets a lance of Medium Mechs.
WLF-2 Wolfhound(35 tons):

The Wolfhound is a Medium mech based around an array of Lasers. Due to the fact that it has no weapons the require ammo, it is not at the risk of an internal ammunition explosion. Those sting like mofos. It carries around a ER Large Laser mounted in the Right Arm, a rear-facing Medium Laser in the Center Torso and 3 front-facing Medium Lasers, one in each torso section.
The Wolfhound is piloted by Captain Mike Aaron of the Mercenary group "Ryan's Raiders".
CLNT-2-3U Clint(45 tons):

I've always wondered what they named this guy after. Anywho, the Clint was originally known for carrying around a badass Autocannon but due to ammo shortages in the Inner Sphere they replaced it with an even more badass ER PPC and a pair of Medium Pulse Lasers. And one more thing about the Clint: It has Jump Jets, allowing it to fly over any obstacle. Much <3.
The Clint is piloted by John Michaels of the Mercenary group "Ryan's Raiders".
CN9-D Centurion(50 tons):

The best Mechwarrior in the Inner Sphere drives a modified version of one of these, with a Gauss Rifle. This particular Mech, however, is just another stock Centurion. It carries an LRM-10 with Artemis IV, an LB-X 10 Autocannon armed with Cluster munitions and 2 Medium Lasers.
The Centurion is piloted by General Mark Ryan of the Mercenary group "Ryan's Raiders".
CDA-3M Cicada(40 tons):

The Cicada is... the Cicada. This particular mech is FAST and wields two Medium Lasers (Which are actually pretty damn good, despite being "Medium"), a Small Pulse Laser, and an Ultra Autocannon/5. It also has CASE which prevent a ammo explosion from gutting the whole Mech. Now it'll just gut one part of it. Heh, Inner Sphere mechs have to use tonnage and Critical Slots to have CASE, Clanners get it automatically at no cost :P.

CLAN FORCES:
Heh, the Clans are awesome. Their warriors are all created from the preserved DNA of the Clan's bloodnamed warriors and trained in combat from birth. They follow an honor system which frowns upon physical combat and teaming up on enemy mechs and emphasizes combat and using the smallest force possible to get the job done. Also they have OmniMechs, which use a modular weapons system that makes repairs faster and allows for Mechs to be customized as the mission needs. Unlike the Inner Sphere, which lost alot of technology in the Succession Wars (Except for Comstar, but they havent advanced any, either), the Clans developed further, giving them a gross advantage at the beginning of the invasion. The Inner Sphere has since caught up.
Unlike the Inner Sphere's Lances, the Clan uses Stars, which are made of five Points.
Point 1: Uller, Variant A (30 tons):

The Uller Variant A carries two ER Medium Lasers and one of the almighty Gauss Rifles, giving it awesome ranged damage capabilities for a Light Mech. Its also got decent speed, but... its armor is a bit lacking.
Point 2: Uller, Prime Configuration (30 tons):

Oriented around close combat, the Uller's Prime Configuration carries an ER Large Laser, a Small Pulse Laser, a Streak SRM-4 and a LB-X 5 Autocannon with Cluster munitions.
The Uller Prime is piloted by the Mechwarrior Kiro.
Point 3: Puma, Prime Configuration (35 tons):

The Puma's prime configuration, carrying around two(2!!!) ER PPCs, is great for dishing out damage at range, and has a flamer tossed in too. However, its heat dissipation leaves something to be desired :/.
The Puma is piloted by Star Captain Kar Rosse of Clan Nova Cat.
Points 4, 5: Elementals:

Not Mechs, but the next best thing. Elementals are Battle Armors, piloted by Clanners bred for size and strength (They're huge!) the ones I'm using are carrying anti-mech Small Lasers. Also, they're armed with SRM-2 launchers and have enough armor to withstand a shot from most weapons. These guys are great for taking down Mechs, and are known to literally rip off Mech armor. 2 points of them = 10 Elementals. >:]
The leader of Elemental Point 1 is Mika Drummond

These are the terrain types I'll be using to make my map. Forgive my crapass CG skills, but it was the best I could come up with on short notice :P
Clear terrain is okay. It lets a Mech move at top speed and doesn't get in the way of your shots.
Rough terrain is hell. It cuts a Mech's speed in half but doesn't impede its firing, making a large field of them into a deathtrap.
Light and Heavy Forests are half good, half bad. They impede your line of sight and slow you down, but if you have a few hexes of them between you and the other Mech, they can't hit you.
Water is a again, half good and half bad. It cuts your movement speed down, but at the same time it makes you harder to hit. Also, heat sinks that are underwater dissipate heat twice as much (Double heat sinks * 2 = thx). In Depth 1 water you get a 'partial cover' bonus that makes you harder to hit, and when you're in Depth 2 or greater you're unhittable by most weapons. Much <3.
|

This is the map. The teams will deploy on either side of the river and from there, blast the crap out of each other. The map is a bit small though :/. Anywho, theres a 3 level high rock spire thing, a shallow water river with rough terrain beaches, a clear terrain bridge and lots of forests. I figure the spire will make an excellent hidey-place and a decent sniper post. The Forests will provide cover from long ranged weaponry and force units up close and the river will provide a battleground and a hiding place for damaged Mechs (A Mech can submerge completely if it lies down in Depth 1 water). The clear areas will provide for prime combat zones and allow long range Mechs to snipe out other Mechs from across the river.
