Satiable Fury

It was a Thursay night, and I was bored from a long day of doing nothing. A few quick and easy games vs random public players were just not enough to feed my ego.
I decided to join another public game - my opponent -=SWM=-FuRy=- making me feel welcome. I chose Terran in the face of his Protoss, not my best matchup but I figured some pratice couldn't hurt.

Ah yes, Lost Temple, the most disgustingly addictive map ever played on, this time hosting a battle of West versus East with FuRy beginning at the 9 position while I set up camp at 3.
Things start off slowly - scouting peons find their targets quickly, my SCV revealing nothing special before being ushered out by a Dragoon. FuRy's Probe had even less luck, although making it into my base it died before being of any real use. So on go reasonably typical builds for the matchup. FuRy going Gateway-Gas-Core-Robo-Gateway-Obs then pumping out Goons, while I chose Wall-dual Factory-Starport-Armory, testing the effectiveness of Goliaths early on.
Once 2 Dropships were ready and loaded, I sent them South, above my still-building Command Centre, then West along the top of the 6 main. My dropships passed a warping gateway at the 6 ramp, but I didn't register at that point and I headed into the 9 Mineral line as planned. 6 Goliaths and Tank were dropped - right into the the vacinity of 8 Dragoons. You see, hovering above the 3 Natural was one of FuRy's Observers. It saw both Dropships pass, and also gave a live feed of the Expansion's progress.

After dealing with the drop, FuRy took the oppotunity to expand to his natural and to strengthen his base at the 6 main. Deciding to delay his attack gave me precious minutes to retool, and with my natural up and running, I was able to produce liberally from 4 Factories.
Perhaps underestimating my forces, FuRy focussed an attack at the well covered 6 choke point. The small Dragoon group was blown away by 5 Sieged Tanks and various other ground vehicles. A shuttle full of Zealots unloaded late, killing but 1 cliffed tank.
I sneakily hit back planting 2 Tanks on the cliff above the now occupied 9 natural. With no real set orders, the Tanks were left to fire at will. Will became pissed and left the room. FuRy scrambled together a Shuttle, landing 2 Zeals/1 Goon next to the Tanks, who before dying had that Nexus on 150 Hit Points.

I decided to stop turtling, and attempt a push into the centre of the map. Things started off shakily at first, a Protoss Zeal/Goon group loitering in the Temple hampered the first push. Reinforcements on my part helped to successfully break out, stupidly I pressed on too quick, diverting attention between my main attack group and my Expansion attempt at 12 natural. Anyway, i headed straight for FuRy's 6 base.

Tanks and Gollies clogged the 6 natural from cliff to cliff. Sieging and instantaneously attacking FuRy's nearby ground troops. Things went well until a timing error cost me the battle. Protoss troops came from both sides of the blockade but were thinner on the south. When there were but few left below, I unsieged, hoping to push my blockade to the ramp, cutting off flanking reinforcements from the 6 main. Just as the Tanks became mobile, a fresh group of Zealots came from the ramp. The Tanks were quickly surrounded making any retreat impossible.
Meanwhile, FuRy's newest Expansion the North-West island came online.

Attempting to further the Terran reach across the Northern parts of the map, I felt ready to take the 12 main. Unfortunately FuRy had a few of those invisible buggers in the region. A clear path was available for his forces to just roll up into the 12 main. Coming under attack, I cancelled the Command Centre and rallied troops to the area. A dozen Goliaths and a few Tanks lined the inside and outside of the North-Western part of the 3 main. FuRy tested the area first, finding it now heavily fortified. He chose to stay put in the 12 main for the time being although I had other plans. 4 Tanks were flown in and positioned near the 12 ramp, Goliaths ascended the ramp and harrassed the Protoss units, sparking a nasty skirmish.

Behind the action, FuRy kept up map control, expanding to the 6 natural and 9 Mineral only, I should also mention that he had 10+ Gateways, creating an everfresh supply of troops. I began to tire of the immobility of Terran Vehicles, insted getting BattleCruiser tech and 4 Starports. Eventually I succeeded in starting a 12 main Expo and snuck a couple of Tanks on the 6 natuaral cliff heh.

Another 2 minutes passed, and another attempt on the 3 choke. This attack was the biggest yet(4 ctrl groups infact), Battlecruisers and Tanks had a heavy task holding off the Goon/Zeal combo. FuRy focussed fire on BCs where possible forcing me to keep pulling them back behind the cliffed Tanks. Occasionally a Zealot or 2 would climb the ramp, only to be shot at the top by hovering Battlecruisers. The Protoss attack peaked when a few direct hits took out 2 or 3 Tanks, giving the Dragoons a few clear shots at lone Cruisers taking them down like nothing.
With rapidly fading numbers on both sides, the battle began to lull. At it's end, the few remaining BCs were more than eager to be repaired as reinforcements were still quite a ways off.

Doing quite well unchecked were the pair of Tanks on the 6 nat. cliff. By the time I even remembered they were there, FuRy's Nexus was already gone. They remained there for some time.
After a long rebuild, I gathered what few Tanks/Cruisers I could to head towards the centre of the map. Underestimating the rebuild time of my opponent, I met with a sizable group consisiting mainly of Zealots due to FuRy's Vespene shortage. Still there were enough Goons and (groan) High Templars to tear a hole through my advance. With 3 Cruisers gradually taking control of the situation, I decided it would be safest to retreat.

Hmmm, my failing economy was not helped out by FuRy's next move. Once again, an unchecked Protoss ground force just glided up the 12 ramp, terrorising my newest of only 3 working Expansions. What more could I do but send in the big boys, half a dozen BattleCruisers vs 10,000 Zealots. Well the Battleruisers were nearly untouched, but my SCV count at both 12 Expos was reduced by roughly half. I had to avenge the attack, and a recent scan had uncovered the best place to do so.
The Crusiers headed West, to FuRy's untouched Island Expansion. The very lightly defended base was leveled in mere seconds, with no chance of salvation. While FuRy lost an island Expo, I gained one, floating my Original Command Centre to the South-East corner of the map - hey times were tough.

The North-West Crusier group floated slowly south, destroying the 9 natural, and shortly after, the 9 Mineral Only. FuRy's forces had been stewing at the inability to stop the recent hit and run attacks, so in a rushed manner, they were ordered to once again attack the 3 choke.
The limited number of Tanks and few available Cruisers put up a fantastic defensive effort suffering acceptable casualties, while the Protoss numbers thinned to near zero.

Still reeling from the recent attack, my boys were forced into defensive positions again. This time mainly Zealots made up FuRy's unit count, zooming straight to the tank positions, removing them in no particular order. What of the BattleCruisers? they were distracted by follow up Dragoons - not too many, but enough to destroy a couple of Cruisers. The Zealots moved further into the 3 main, attacking random buildings. This went on until a life saving event occured, 4 BattleCruisers finished construction with 20 seconds of eachother, and proceeded to cleanse the 3 main of all things Protoss.
Down south, the other BattleCruisers were still causing trouble for FuRy, attacking his 6 Mineral Only Expansion, and tackling a large number of Dragoons with the help of Yamato Cannon. Battered and bruised, the BCs retreated temporarily to the South-East island expo for repairs.

Even with the map's resources mostly depleted, and bases devastated on both sides, the outcome still looked undecided. I had 6 BattleCruisers repaired and energised heading towards the 6 natural. They stopped on top of the cliffs, and prepared their Yamato Cannons for firing. Just 2 seconds after the last Cannon hit it's mark, I received a message on my screen, "WAITING FOR PLAYERS... etc". I alt-tab and check my Connection, 4 Hours and a few seconds. GJ Powerup for ruining another game with your crappy 4 hour limit. THX

Ungh, I wouldn't call this game, although it looked to be leaning in my favour, you can watch the replay and decide for yourself ;]
Anyways, hope you enjoyed. I'm off on holidays till the 24th, BYE!
