I was trying to start a non-Hunters game, but nobody joined any of my created games. So, in desperation, I browsed through the games' list and found a game named "swe_". Uh? The map was Lost Temple, a bit better than Hunters, so I joined it.

Map: Lost Temple

Teams:

#1: Korasoff[265] and korean-boy
#2: [SD]-Viruss and [SD]-Hazzan (sumthin like that)

The Start

"swe_" stood for Swedish. They talked a bit in their own language (which I do not understand at all) and finally one said "SD VERSUS REST". Okay. Hardball time.

I ended up Terran at 3:00. My ally, korean-boy, was Protoss at 12:00. Viruss was Terran at 6:00, and Hazzan was Zerg at 9:00.

I started with a Depot at my ramp, then a Barracks, and finally a 2nd Barracks. The SCV who finished the first Depot went scouting, and found a Terran at 6:00 (no defense at ramp, *grin*) and a Zerg at 9:00. My partner had a similar Build Order, Pylon on 7, two Gateways then Zealots. Just as my scouting SCV passes by, the Zerg morphs an Hatchery at his expansion! I take my 2 Marines, shout "Rush Zerg!" and jump in to the fray.

My partner brings in 4 Zeals. We kill the Drone trying to set up camp at the natural expansion, then we head up the ramp. We are greeted by many Sunkens, but we are still able to do some economical and psychological damage. Back home I made a Refinery after my 2nd depot and am now pumping more Marines, making a 3rd Depot to wall off my ramp totally and also a Bunker.

I send 3 scouting Marines to the Terran... they are greeted by 2 full Bunkers up the ramp. Damn. At my main, I have a handful of un-Bunkered Marines and 2 Vultures, and my 2 Factories are pumping Tanks along with Siege Mode and Spider Mines upgrades (gnahaha). I take my first 2 Tanks, 8 Marines and tell my partner "Let’s attack Terran."

In we go... the Terran had put 2 Bunkers to block his natural, but my Tanks took them out easily. My partner rushes in with Zealots and Dragoons, and he just zips by the defenses up the ramp to take out the peons! *Smack* I love you man! ;) My Tanks and Marines, reinforced with some Vultures (who had put Spider Mines at all expansions points except islands), fend off a small Zergling attack. I then proceed to make my way up the Terran's ramp, bringing more Tanks as reinforcements.

Back home I make 2 Starports (Mutas are gonna come sooner or later) and order more Tanks. As soon as a Dropship pops out from the first Starport, I load 2 Tanks and drop them over the Zerg's natural expansion's ledge. Boom baby boom! I pop many Drones, but the usual Mutalisk fleet (around 10) comes in and puts an end to the party. My partner has only 3 Scouts, so I tell him to let it go. No need to waste money now.

Mid-Game

I finally destroy the Terran's ramp defenses, but Mutas come in again and stop me. However, the damage has already been done : the Terran is almost dead, he has lifted all his buildings (a Factory and a Starport) and sent them to the Zerg's main base. Hell, we’re doing pretty good up to now. My 2 Starports are cranking Wraiths like there's no tomorrow, and I research Cloaking. Overlords? Yeah right.

At this point my Minerals are running dry, so I transfer 12 SCVs to my natural. My partner has already expanded to his natural, and he's pumping High Templars and Scouts. Just then, a fleet of 12 Mutas and 8 Guardians come rolling above my soon-to-be expansion! I have around 8 Wraiths at this point, with Cloaking, and Zergie Boy doesn't have an Overlord...

*Insert evil laughter here*

I launch my Wraiths in the battle, and hit the "C" key to Cloak them. Hmmm, why am I losing Wraiths? Arrg, wrong hotkey! I hit "V" instead of "C"! I lose 4 Wraiths before I can react, but after Cloaking everything is fine, since I blow up the Guardians and Mutalisks with help from my partner’s Scouts (he has approximatively 8 by this time). I lost all my SCVs located at my natural, which leaves me with 3 unoccupied Workers in all. Yikes. And only 900 minerals left.

Late-Game

My partner says "I'm going bottom-right". He brings a Shuttle loaded with Probes and his Scout fleet, but stumbles on a Terran expansion! Since there are no AA defenses, he levels it quickly and drops his Probe payload to start an expansion of his own. Hmmm, I wonder... Yes! ComSat confirms my worries : Zerg has expanded to the top-left island. But there are no defenses there also...

My 4 Wraiths come rolling in and see 3 defenseless Overlords. He hasn't even researched Overlord Speed! Wraiths start attacking them, and the 2 first OLs go down quickly. But as I'm working on the third, a small number of Scourges (around 5-6) fly in and destroy 2 of my Wraiths. No sweat, I still have 1 undamaged Wraith and a severely damaged one. I kill the last Overlord, and start popping Drones. My partner brings in his Scout fleet again, and together we destroy all the Drones. Alas, a huge number of Scourges (12 +) come in and cripple my partner's Scouts. He loses maybe 4-5. But hey, we're still on top! I bring back my Wraiths for repairs, and put my natural expansion fully on-line. But wait a sec, what's that big blue spot on the minimap? A major offensive on my partner! Another fleet of 10 Mutas, 10 Guardians and 4 OLs full of Hydras! My partner cries for help, and I send my Wraiths... Hopefully the Zerg’s Overlords will pull out. I shout "Psi-Storm!" and soon enough we hear the usual lightning crackle. This scares the enemy's Overlords, and my Cloaked Wraiths are now safe to pound on the Guardians and Mutalisks. My partner valiantly defends his base agaisnt Hydralisk with Zealots, and we eventually succeed in stopping this attack too.

Things stay calm for a while, during when I make more Wraiths, some Tanks, and a bunch of Marines for an eventual Tank push. My partner has seized the bottom-right island well and is rebuilding his Scout mob. Time for a last attack... I bring in 6 Tanks, 12 Marines and 10 Wraiths. My partner provides Observer spotting/detection, a bunch of Zealots, Dragoons and High Templars. As we begin to demolish the Zerg's front Sunken Colonies, Viruss (the Terran) says "GG" and leaves. We ally up with Hazzan, since it had been a great game.

Lessons Learned :

1) You cannot be good at everything. I was lucky to find a good partner that complimented me very well. I was good in scouting and starting attacks (ComSat and Tanks) while he brought sheer numbers along (Zealots, Dragoons and Scouts). By focusing individually on different aspects of the game, we were able to perform well.

2) Man I'm stupid. All through the game, I did not make ONE single weapon or armor upgrade. Instead, I relied on Tanks' range and Wraiths' Cloaking. Whew.
